Solaris 10 installtion
Hi all,
I finally decided to cleanup my entire system. I have two HDDs
120GB and 80GB. I wanted to install Xp linux and solaris. I have only once retriction.
1) I ned one copy of XP on each of the disks. (one with all SPs and other without any such things, just for entertainment).
20GB each for Linux and Solaris, 10GB for each copy of XP.
Linux and Solaris can goto any disk.
Also, I need not to have a single boot loader for all the OSs. I can take help of BIOS settings, if I need to boot others. That si with the combination of BIOS settings and some boot loader I should be able to boot any OS.
Please help me with steps to follow, I mean the seqeunce of Os installtion, preferred disks and partitioning. The main problem I am facing is with the partitioning. At present I have 2 copies of Xp and Linux and some 40GB of free unpartitioned disk space for linux. But Solaris 10 installation does not recognise this freee space. It tells, it is used. So, I decied re-install the entire setup.
Please help me...
Thanks
Deekshit M
1) I ned one copy of XP on each of the disks. (one
with all SPs and other without any such things, just
for entertainment).I'd suggest putting three partitions on your 120GB disk with two copies of Windows and Linux. Then you could simply use the 80GB drive for Solaris. This seems to be the easiest way to setup what you need to me.
Then just focuse your efforts on dual booting Windows and Linux to save yourself some time. Selecting different Windows boot partitions is trivial with the Windows boot partition, but you'd probably just use your Linux GRUB to manage the three partitions.
Besides, I think you'll eventually like Solaris enough to keep. 8)

Solaris 11.2 x86 installation problem on GPT partitioned SSD
I recently bought a new computer with Windows 8.1 pre-installed on it. I want to install Solaris 11.2 as dual-boot together with the pre-installed windows 8.1.
The computer has a 128 GB SSD which is GPT partitioned. The SSD has 5 GPT partitions which are in use. I used a partition manager in Windows to shrink the size of the 5th partition (the windows system partition) so that i now have about 31 GB of unpartitioned, unused space after the 5 used partitions where i want to install Solaris into.
For installation, I downloaded the Solaris text installer ISO and burned it onto a CD-R. Now, whenever the installation menu shows me the GPT partitions of my SSD and i choose "Use a GPT partition of the disk" it always goes back to the first menu screen where it says "Welcome to the Oracle Solaris installtion menu".
Also, the installation menu shows the 5 used GPT partitions correctly, but then it shows me not one, but two partitions as "unused" with a size of 0.0 MB.
What am i doing wrong? If you have support, then you will be better served by opening a support case.
Assuming you don't, or you would have gone there already... There may well be bugs with supporting multiple OS's under GPT partitions. I have no idea how much testing we did for such cases, and to be totally honest we put little effort into dual-booting systems these days, as using VM's in VIrtualBox or other VM managers is a better answer for 90i+% of people.
That said, posting the output from prtvtoc for the disk would give someone a chance to see if there's an obvious bug. -

OAS installtion on Solaris intel based
Dear all,
I have to do a installation of OAS on Solaris Intel machine.. Sunfire 440. I can only find the below installation guide on oracle.com. I can find only for Solaris Operating System (SPARC 64-Bit) and not intel .. can anyone guide me with this ?
Oracle Application Server Installation Guides
AIX 5L Based Systems (64-Bit) HTML PDF
HP-UX Itanium HTML PDF
HP-UX PA-RISC (64-Bit) HTML PDF
Linux Itanium HTML PDF
Linux x86 HTML PDF
Microsoft Windows HTML PDF
Microsoft Windows (64-Bit) on Intel Itanium HTML PDF
Solaris Operating System (SPARC 64-Bit) HTML PDF
TIA
KaiYou should follow the doc that you found for solaris, the thing is that the patches and fixes for this that you would found are for the PARISC server, if you can get the same patches and fixes for your intel server, use them and if you can't start the installation process, try to run installer like runInstaller.sh -ignoresysprereqs.

Installtion of Sun DSEE7.0 on Solaris 10 x86 error
When attempting to install, either by native package or by zip package, the dsadm create /dsInst command always returns the error: Invalid argument. The return code is 126. Both the native package install and the zip package install without any errors. I've also installed the recommended patch cluster. Any help?
Thanks,
ISUROBhttp://edocs/liquiddata/docs81/install/prep.html#1039271
It is not supported on Solaris running on Intel.
btw - AquaLogic DSP (aka LD8.5) is the current version. It is not supported on Solaris running on Intel, either.

KaranWhat you are attempting is NOT a supported combination & there is no guarantee that all will be OK.
Either downgrade OS or upgrade to a supported version of Oracle! -

Need to format the old ASM disks on solaris.10.
Hello Gurus,
we uninstalled the ASM on solaris, but while installing the ASM again it says that mount point already used by another instance, but there is no db and ASM running (this is the new server) so we need to use dd command or need to reformat the raw devices which already exists and used by the old ASM instance, here is the confusion...
there are 6 Luns presented to the this host for ASM,its not used by anyone...
# format

so we need to know where the raw devices located for oracle to do the dd command to remove the old asm header on the raw device inorder to start the fresh installation
but when we use the command which already given by the unix person who is no longer works here now, we are able to see the following information

also we are having the information of the mkode, with minor and major number we used for making the softlinks for raw device with ASM.
Cd dev/oraasm/

But the final thing is we need find out where the above configuration located on the host, i think this raw device present method is different than the normal method on solaris??
please help me to proceed my installtion .... thanks in advance....
i am really confused with the following command from where we are getting the oracle disk raw devices information, since there is no info there in /etc/rdsk location (Os is solaris 10)

Need Pre_requisites to install Solution Manager in Solaries 9 and Oracle 10
Hi Administrators,
In my project, we have planned to implement Solution Manager 7.0 in O/S Solaries 9 and Database Oracle 10.2.
We are implementing this Solution Manager in already existing SAP server.
We have server like TSAPNGN, In this server already our QAS ECC 5.0 and QAS BW 3.5 are exist and running in this server.
I need information like, What is the pre_requisites to install SAP application, where already another SAP exist in Server.
Appreciate ur help.
Thanks & Regards,
Jagan.Hello
There is no difference whether you are installing the Solution Manager on a separate server or an existing server already containing the DEV system. you will get some idea from these Notes
21960 Several instances/systems on one UNIX computer
28392 Two R/3 Systems on one Windows NT Server
322653 DB6: Two or several systems on a host
I think, you should go for Central System installtion for the Solman, with it's own database.
and what do you mean by 'standalone solman' here ?
Just go 'installation and upgrades' -> My application components -> SAP Solution Manager -> Solman 7.0 or EHp1 -> Installation and upgrades
For installation guide
installation and upgrade guiedes -> SAP components -> SAP Solution manager -> Select solman version -
JDK 1.2.2_007 install on Solaris 8
Hi,
This isn't a programming question but more of a setup issue and I hope it is not to far off topic for this form.
I'm responsible for testing a Java app and need to go as far back as JDK 122_07 for my testing. The box I use is an Ultra 5 running Solaris 8. When I install the JDK for 122_07 and put it in the path, I'm still getting 1.2.2_005 (the default installtion) when I do a java -fullversion. I have updated the path in /etc/profile and /etc/default/login. When I do an #echo $PATH I see /usr/jdk122_07:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:. I could take off 122_05 but it breaks other stuff. See next question.
When I run pkgrm to take off SUNWj2rt there are about 8 other package dependencies. The primary concern is SUNWdtnsc which is needed for Netscape.
Even when I go into /usr/jdk122_07 and type java -fullversion I get back the 122_05 result. Looking at java in the dir I see it is linked to java_wrapper? What is that all about?
Thanks for any nuggets.
GaryThanks Ada. This is a new install so I'll have to look at some other cause. Thanks for the reply.
