Solaris 10 Keyboard Selection

After a successful and smooth installation of Solaris 10 on my Gateway Pentium IV System.
My only problem is I cannot (don't know how to) configure the keyboard other than kdmconfig.
The only choice for keyboard is Generic US english (104).
I need to have the International keys available for typing in Brazilian Portuguese and English
I tried kdmconfig but no international Portuguese or Brazilian choices are available and they are not included on the Language CD.
How can I configure the correct keyboard layout?

I have the same problem . I've tried configure my laptop whith kdmconfig either Xorg and Xsun but after reboot my keyboard and my touchpad mouse doesn't work . I've attached a usb mouse and it work fine but my keyboard still not work !
I have found a little work around :
by telnet disable dt login whit
# dtconfig -d
# reboot
Now the X server don't start
Login as root and start Java Desktop System with :
# gdm
Now you are asked for login .
Now my keyboard and mice work fine !!!
Please keep me up to date !!i have similar problem on a hp laptop. if i dont touch anything and let it boot, touchpad and kb won't response. if i press enter while it boot (line will scroll up) then everything works fine, weird. btw, i am running solaris express nv 55b on it.

  • Install Solaris 10 Keyboard Layout Error

    Hello,
I've got an odd problem during the installation of Solaris 10.
When installing you can change the video, mouse and keyboard settings. If i change the keyboard from US_English (default) to Belgian (AZERTY), there is no difference.
Its marked as a Belgian keyboard but it act like an US Qwerty.
Has somebody any idea why this problem occurs?
Do i need to patch something after the installation ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Serge Kestens

kbd -l gives me the following output.
    type=101
    layout=0 (0x00)
    delay(ms)=500
rate(ms)=40OK, so the layout code "0" apparently means something like
unknown or unsupported keyboard layout, it comes from
/usr/lib/set_keyboard_layout, line 51: The layout name "Belgian"
is not handled in the case statement, so the "*" case is used and
    sets layout to "0".
I also checked /usr/X11/lib/X11/xkb/xkbtable.map, the file
used by the Xorg server to map the keyboard type / keyboard
layout to keymap files. It contains no entry for type 101/layout 0,
so the default layout for an US keyboard is used:
    /usr/X11/lib/X11/xkb/xkbtable.map, line 122:
    # Type 101 Keyboards (Solaris x86 Keyboards)
    101     *       -       pc105                   us      # MS_US101A_x86
...There are currently no Belgian layouts for type 101 keyboards
    defined in this file!
And with the Xsun server, things are not much better. Looking
in /usr/openwin/share/etc/keytables, there are no _x86.kt.Z
keytable files for a Belgian layout. (There is a Belgian6.kt
file, but this is only used for SPARC Type-6 USB keyboards)

  • Keyboard selection in Leopard Terminal

Does anyone know where the keyboard selection has gone in the Leopard Terminal? I.e., the command-option-enter command, then selecting some text using it two times more, which then could be pasted.
I quite liked it, especially as I don't like mice/mouses/pointing devices. Is it still there under a different short cut, or just completely gone?

I am also looking for this. For those of you unfamiliar, here is a summary of what Keyboard Selection can do http://www.macworld.com/article/59321/2007/08/termtext.html

  • Urxvt-keyboard-select - mouseless text selection in urxvt

    Hello again,
my next urxvt extension reached a stable stage, so it's time to post it here: keyboard-select
Please have a look at the top of the file for details on how to use it, or read the README on github.
The usage is comparable to tmux/gnu screen, but its mappings are more vim-like.
As for now, the most basic cursor movement keys are available, I'm planning to add the following in the near future: [fFwWbBeE;,/?nN]
And this time I've also managed to upload a PKGBUILD before writing this post...

@hitsmaxft: Your extension looks nice, I will try it out later. But your one always uses urxvt's selection for highlighting; I use rendition bits for that, because I want a chance to cancel visual mode without losing the content of the primary buffer. It also misses some delete statements, for example, it always creates a new overlay without deleting the old one.
I will continue developing mine (at least just for the fun of it), even if your one already features everything I'd plan to implement.
For all the emacs lovers: I will try to provide vim and emacs keybindings, but I didn't come up with a nice way of handling this. And by nice I mean no code duplication and no complex key dispatcher, taking up more code than the real functionality.
    Be patient, or:

  • Are there any other left eye dominant (or left handed) iPhone users that experience problems with the touch screen keyboard selecting the letter next to the one you'd intended..?

Are there any other left eye dominant (or left handed) iPhone users that experience problems with the touch screen keyboard selecting the letter next to the one you'd intended..?

It's either hand right or left.
I have the same issue myself.  Not sure if it's b/c my fingers are too big or if I'm really missed the letter on the keyboard.

  • Solaris 8 & Keyboard Problem on DELL Inspiron Laptop

    Hi all,
Trying to install Solaris 8 on Dell Inspiron 4000 laptop, but the keyboard gets stuck at the stage where I need to select the language. No response to keyboard and the machine just hangs. The keyboard works initially, I used the F2 key to continue to the next screen. Has anyone seen this before? Any help is much appreciated.
    Thanks

I'm experiencing this exact problem on my Dell Inspiron 4000 as well. When I trying to select the Language stage of the installation, my laptop responds with garble text, and then the laptop locks up. Please let me know if you have a resolution.

  • Keyboard selection of user on login window

Since using Mountain Lion, when all users are logged out and the Mac goes to sleep, on wake up, I am no more able to select the user on the login window using the (bluetooth) keyboard.
However, if I click with the mouse on one of the users icon, selection using keyboard (left or right arrow) works again.
Any ideas or solutions to this problem which is not present on my other machines nor was present on the iMac under Lion.
    Thanks for any input.

  • Change Spell Check language according to keyboard selected

    Hi,
Is there a way to have spell check automatically change its language according to which keyboard is selected from the international menulet? This would seem to be logical...

I've been thinking about the same thing. How hard would it be to enable that?
Just recently I finally figured out how to install and use dictionaries with cocoAspell, the ones not available under Leopard. That was a huge step forward, but now that I can, I don't want to have to keep changing between languages. I'd love the spell checker setting to have an option to follow the keyboard layout, or be able to set shortcuts for languages. Or something.

  • Keyboard selective functionality

Occasionally my keyboard (wired) will not allow me to change files names, create/rename folders, or use any keyboard commands to open or delete files, etc., but it works fine surfing the web, writing email, etc., in all other apps. (I was able to write this post.) For example, Command+N in Finder does nothing, while Command+N in Safari or any other app opens a new window/file, as it should. One minute everything's working fine, the next I can't use my keyboard for these Finder tasks. As long as I don't want to do anything in Finder that requires keyboard input I'm okay, but that's annoying. Things are typically back to normal on restart. Any ideas what's up with this selective functionality? This does not happen all the time, just on occasion. Any thoughts or suggestions for fixing this? Is my keyboard on its way out? It's almost two years old. Thanks!
    G5 Dual 1.8 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Thanks for the suggestion. I poked around UA but didn't see anything that seems to address this. The thing is, it doesn't happen all the time, so I don't think it's in any of the settings, otherwise it would be a constant issue.
The challenge too with this problem is that I won't know if it's "fixed" unless it never happens again. So, every day is a good day when I have full use of my keyboard!

  • CS5 keyboard selection shortcuts?

I'm quite used to holding down Command (Mac) to temporarily get the selection tool.
(I guess this is called a "spring loaded tool shortcut").
It appears that this no longer works consistently in CS5. For instance, with the gap tool selected, nothing happens.
    What's up with this?
Is it because the gap tool is also a "selection tool"? I guess I could hold down 'V' or 'A' and use the plain ol' springloaded key functionality, but somehow I really liked the ability to retain this keyboard shortcut I learned using Adobe Illustrator '88 that has stuck with me since then...
Any idea what the thinking is? Or is this a bug?

Jongware, why the heck do you want to redefine the Command key shortcut?
While there's a lot to be said for the ability to redefine keys, it does have some downsides. It's really nice to have standard keys that do standard things across all products, and to have the careful attention of UI designers coming up with consistent shortcuts that work well together and work across product lines. One would like to hope peoplek have done this.
I suppose I get grumpy when people want to redefine existing key shortcuts. I'm the first to support being able to define shortcuts for new commands or for commands that don't have them, but I'm always very wary when people want to give new shortcuts to existing commands.
Presumably it's clear why you can't redefine the Command/Ctrl springloaded selection behavior -- it's a special case that is handled outside of the OS's standard keyboard handling, and that special case isn't dispatched through the standard ID keyboard shortcut mechanism. But it's also a really really powerful keybinding. Like asking an emacs user to rebind Meta, or a windows user to swap Ctrl and the number '2' -- rampant confusion if anyone else sits down at the keyboard...
Anyhow, we won't be using CS5 in production for a loooong time [Woodwing, what is up with you guys???], so I suppose I don't have to worry much, but I feel like my mindshare with Adobe is weakening.
Pretty stunning to see that bit in the indesignsecrets comments about defining a new key command for Zoom. I mean, as if Cmd-0, Cmd-1, Cmd-2, and Cmd-5 weren't enough, as is Z, holding down option while the grabber hand is active, the Zoom Level box, and hte power zoom: Cmd-space (and Cmd-option-space) are incredibly useful [though it does drive me up the wall when Spotlight steals them under OSX. It would be nice if Adobe could disable spotlight's use of them only while you're in Adobe products so you don't have to reconfigure somebody else's machine just to use it].
Plus the hand tool, with Option-Space, is great too.
While ranting, how come so few people make use of marquee zoom (dragging a marquee -- a box -- around the area you want magnified while the zoom tool is selected)? I see people so often struggle to zoom to the right area and that command is right there and perfect for them... Cognitive dissonance, I suppose...
All this makes me nostalgic for Illustrator '88 on a Mac SE. Maybe I should go try to find one (not sure which is harder, the Mac SE or Illustrator '88) and see how slow it is and whether it's as awesome as I remember...

  • Keyboard selection of layers

I'm more of a keyboard user than a mouse user and would like to select layer with the keyboard (ie. move up or down selecting layers in the timeline with keystrokes like ctrl-down/ctrl-up in AfterEffects) but can't seem to find a way to assign that action to a keystroke. I've found the "Keyboard Shortcuts" off the Edit Menu but the only command associated with selection seems to be Select All. Would love to see something like this in a later version. Thanks.

    Thanx Todd.
I understand the Composition Import workflow and  the "open select close open select close" individual layer workflow...but I thought that this would have been improved by "popular demand" by now.
I will make a Feature Request.
Currently working with a client that puts all his "eggs in one basket".
eg. One psd has 20 -30 layers ( for maximum flexibility in post production and optional layers ) . When I only need 3- 5 of them at a time...the import workflow is  kind of tedious.
Thinking : Surely it would be easy enough for the Import Multiple files function  to allow the Import window to remain open on the selected psd to enable checking of a layer selection from within it before.... 'Done'.

  • How to keyboard-select in/out points while playing?

In older version of iMovie, you used to be able to play from the event viewer, and hit shift-left and shift-right to select in and out points. This seems to have gone away in '11. What's the new way to do this via keyboard shortcuts?

  • Keyboard select controls stop working

I have an Apple keyboard connected via usb, and an Apple wireless Magic Mouse.
When working on a project I tend to use the browser to select a photo, make adjustments in the viewer, then move on to the next photo. Standard stuff.
Typically the sort of adjustments are cropping, stacking, rating, skin smoothing, exposure etc. Again standard stuff.
After doing a few of these, the move arrows (up, down, left, right) stop working, so navigating through the project becomes a pain. Also, it is not uncommon for the mouse to throw a 'wobbly' and dart all over to the wrong places.
The solution is to close and restart Aperture.
I've sent a bug report to Apple, but anyone else getting this?

Hey, was wondering if it was just me. I have the same exact problem, and it may be something I'm doing wrong.
What I used to do in Aperture 2 was say lift from one image then use the keyboard cursor keys to move left/right/up/down through the project and stamp when needed, this could be done without changing from the stamp tool.
Now to do this I have to press 'O' to get the lift tool, then press 'A' to get me the selection cursor, then press 'SHIFT-O' to get the stamp tool, this will then allow me to stamp on thumbnails and move along to the next image using the keyboard without changing back to the selection cursor 'A'.
Does this make sense? Because it's a pain and really slows the workflow down. I have no wireless input devices and the same happens on the MacPro and Macbook Pro.

  • British Keyboard selected, still got US mapping

Hi, I've got a Mac mini running 10.5. I've tried a couple of keyboards, one USB and another Bluetooth, each time setting it up with the wizard (pressing the key to the right of the left shift key, etc), then also setting the international settings to use the British keyboard such that there's a small british flag at the top of the screen. I also tried adding the key mapping from the following link:
    http://www.gyford.com/phil/writing/2005/11/20/usingabritish.php
though it doesn't seem to work on 10.5 as the option to select 'British 2' never becomes available.
Even with all these settings, reboots later and whatnot, I still have the @ and " keys swapped, as though the machine was still using a US layout.
    Any ideas?!
    Thanks in advance.

    bump.
