Solaris 10 media kit availability

Hello,
I would like to purchase a "boxed set" a.k.a. the "media kit" for Solaris 10. My understanding is that this will not be available until the revenue release. Does anybody know if this is correct and if it is what is the schedule for the revenue release?
Or, is the media kit already available but I just couldn't find it on Sun's website?

You can purchase the media kit at the sun store here:

  • What is a media kit - upgrading from Tiger to Leopard?

I appreciate that I am a bit behind the power curve but I have only just realised that I have to upgrade to Leopard if I am to extend the life of my trusty iBook G4! The problem is the only source of Leopard seems to be eBay - where reliable advice is conspicuously absent. Apart from expressing surprise that I cannot buy the upgrade disc from Apple, I would appreciate some advice from this forum.
What exactly are media kits? They are advertised new at about 16% of the going rate for a used installation disc on eBay. There is a suggestion that, if a licence number is available from a previous installation, they can be used to upgrade but I am a little sceptical.
Any advice gratefully received and apologies if this has been covered earlier - couldn't find it in a search.
    Dave

The "media kit' is a physical disk, but that's all.
In order to use it, you'd need a valid license, but the media kit doesn't include any license.
Media Kits are designed to be used by large installations - say you had 100 systems in your corporate network that you want to upgrade. You don't really need (or want) 100 Install DVDs so you might purchase a site license for 100 copies plus a media kit or two.
The site license is really the legal right to install and run a certain number of copies of the OS within an organization. You'd still need at least one copy of the install DVD, though, so that's where the Media Kit comes in - the physical package that's designed to be used in conjunction with a separate license agreement. It works out a lot cheaper to buy one Media Kit plus a 100-user license than it does to buy 100 single-user licenses.
The license agreement could also be a single-user copy of Mac OS X - for example, you lost or broke your install DVD and want a replacement. A Media Kit would also be valid there.
It isn't valid, though, as an upgrade from an earlier OS version.

  • What dev tools are included in media kit

Hi I am a java developer who wants to play with Solaris + java dev env for a moment
I found out that JDS3 for Solaris 10 has Java Studio Creator,Java Studio Enterprise trials with it along with JES
Does they all come bundled with the OS if i order a media kit or I have to download them seperately
    Thanks in advance
    Sayan

The minor updates generally are not for new features but rather for security and allowed stability bug fixes. The 6.0.1 and 6.0.2 were chemspill updates for security as they were not expected to be any updates.
    http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/6.0.2/releasenotes/
The latest version of Firefox has the following changes:
Removed trust exceptions for certificates issued by Staat der Nederlanden (see bug 683449 and the security advisory)
Resolved an issue with gov.uk websites (see bug 669792)

  • No Solaris Management Console was available on the specific server

    Hi all,
We had just finish setting up a new Solaris 10 environment. When i launch smc on the server, on selecting toolbox there's an error message:
No Solaris Management Console server was available on the specified server. Please ensure there is a Solaris Management Console server available on the specified host and that it is running.
However, upon verifying whether smc is running:
    ./init.wbem status
Solaris Management Console server version 2.1.0 running on port 898.
Not sure why this error message appeared, thanks.

    Regarding SMC (not SunMC)..
Note: SMC = Solaris Management Console
SunMC = Sun Management Center (topic of this forum)
Patch 121308-16+ makes WBEM "secure by default."
Customers running Solaris 10 6/06 or prior must modify the client's WBEM
configuration file to allow remote connections after installing patch 121308.
    1. Modify the following line in /usr/sadm/lib/smc/policy/smcserver.config:
    FROM:
    remote.connections=false
    TO:
    remote.connections=true
    2. Stop and restart wbem.
    # /etc/init.d/init.wbem stop
    # /etc/init.d/init.wbem start
    3. Verify that WBEM is now listening for connections to port 898
    on all interfaces:
    # netstat -an |grep 898
    *.898 *.* 0 0 49152 0 LISTEN
In Solaris [TM]10 update 3 (11/06), the startup mechanism for WBEM was changed
from the legacy (rc script) method to the new Service Management Facility (SMF).
To allow remote WBEM connections on Solaris 10 update 3 or later:
    # svcadm disable wbem
    # svccfg -s wbem setprop options/tcp_listen=true
    # svcadm enable wbem

  • Volume erase failed: Media kit reports not enough space on device

I was having problems with the external drive where I store my Time Machine backups, so I tried plugging and unplugging the drive (per earlier advice, and something that had worked in the past), but could not mount the drive. I ran Disk Utility and tried to verify the disk, which told me the disk needed to be repaired. I tried to repair the disk only to get an error message that Disk Utility could not repair the disk and it needed to be reformatted. So I tried to erase the disk with Disk Utility only to get the error message "Volume erase failed: Media kit reports not enough space on this device for requested operation". I am not sure what else to try at this point and could not find any similar questions here.
The drive in question is a 3TB USB Seagate Backup + Desk Media, formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). It's divided into two partitions, one of which (2.2 TB) holds only Time Machine backups of my desktop and laptop and the other of which (800GB) is formatted similarly with some files stored on it. I was able to verify and repair this other partition. I'm running Disk Utility 13 on an iMac (2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) running OSX 10.8.5
Any suggestions for what to try next would be appreciated.

Just to let you know I appear to have the *exact* same problem, even down to the 3TB hard-drive in question.
I read recently that a time machine backup should have its own physical hard disk, not a separate partition on an otherwise-used disk. I wish I'd known that in advance of buying the external drive, as I would not have invested in a 3TB one if I had known I could only use it for Time Machine alone.
Dianeoforegon does make a fair point, though, in saying that all backups in one place is asking for problems down the line.
Incidentally, this Time Machine problem first started occurring when I upgraded to Mavericks. 9 times out of 10 my Time Machine partition would go corrupt for no reason. This definitely hadn't been happening at all before Mavericks. That same upgrade also killed off my entire Boot Camp partition, which caused me major headaches and I eventually had to simply reformat that partition and start again.

  • What is GOVT MEDIA KIT ILLUSTRATOR CS4 14 WIN

I am ordering Illustrator for work and our IT guy is telling me I should also purchase GOVT MEDIA KIT ILLUSTRATOR CS4 14 WIN 65010318DG but he doesn't know exactly what it is since he's never used Illustrator. It has been added to our quote price from our contracted software provider but I can't find it anywhere on Adobe's site. Anyone know what it is? THanks!

Perhaps a specific set of templates, symbol libraries and fonts required to create compliant form layouts for creating official correspondance media with authorities....

  • About Acrobat Pro 9 Media Kit

    Hi,
I have checked online and I noticed that the media kit prices are significantly cheaper than the non media kit prices. Does media kit have the same capabilities as the normal version? Will it be able to register and download patches successfully?
    Thanks

I have checked online and I noticed that the media kit prices are
significantly cheaper than the non media kit prices.
May be the price for the media only. Without any license.

Does the Solaris 10 Encryption Kit provide anything that is not already provided by the
SUNWcry, SUNWcrman and SUNWcryr packages in the solaris 10 update 4 OS, or
more recent updates? Is there any need to install the Encryption Kit on update 4 or beyond?

Many of those packages (like the ones ending in 'x')
do not exist for Solaris 10 for SPARC. Why do you
think you need them on Solaris 10?
DarrenYes, I found these under Solaris 10 product folder:
    SUNWarc SUNWcpcu SUNWcpc.u SUNWcpc.us SUNWsprot
    SUNWzlib SUNWlxml
Do you know if the following still need under Solaris 10, we have this list from Solaris 9. Or if you know any corresponding name that is used in Solaris 10?

  • Media Kit Option for Cloud Subscribers

    Hi
Looking for info on possible media kit for those of us on Cloud subscription.
    Via:
    1. Download ISO or FLat Files
    2. Order a Media Kit for a nominal fee
Have already tested CS6 MAster Suite clean install with my Cloud Serial and it refuses to accept it at the initial install screen, it wont accept it.
    >>Insert Disgust @ Adobe for that fail <<

    Hi AckrosGliceas,
Because the nature licensing with Creative Cloud it is not possible to order installation media. It is possible to convert trial products to be licensed under Creative Cloud Membership using the "License This Software" button.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/convert-cs6-licensed-under-ccm.html
The serial number which appears under the product registration section for Creative Cloud is purely used for registration and not able to be used for installation.
    Sorry for the inconvenience.

  • FMW MapViewer 11g Preview 2 kit available

A MapViewer 11g Preview 2 kit is available for download from otn.
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/mapviewer/index.html
Changes since the Preview 1 kit include:
    - Requires oc4j 11g (there's also a mapviewer_for_oc4j1013.ear in the kit)
    - OGC WMS 1.3.0 support
    - supports maximum log file sizes and log file rotation
    - GeoRSS support
    - Highlighting/selecting single or multiple FOIs by mouse clicks
    - Tile Layer creation wizard in Map Builder

I can give the features I look most forward to:
”Full PDF map output support is provided. If you use PDF_URL or PDF_STREAM as the map format in your XML map request, MapViewer will generate vector PDF maps.”
”In the context of a base map, you can now assign scale limits to its themes' labels. These scale limits control when a theme's features will display their label texts.”
”The TEXT style has been improved to support customizable spacing between letters. It also supports additional (vertical) alignment options when labeling linear features.”
Plus full-map rotation - I must be blind, but I can't find it mentioned in http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/mapviewer/pdf/whats_new_11gpre2.pdf. Do I look in the wrong place?
We might also be able to take good use of the Secure Map Rendering, but I need to investigate this further.
    Thanks,
    Jacob
