Solaris 10 Network Certification

Has someone taken this exam and also taken the Solaris 9 Network exam, im wondering if there are big differences? I have only a book for Solaris 9 Network Certification, because there are no other released, and Sun weblearing is to expensive. Im also reading some pdf from docs.sun.com

Does anybody know, what is included in the OCE, Solaris 10 Network Administrator certification success kit?Haven't done this certification, but I have to assume it's like the other ten or fifteen success kits I've received. It will contain the certificate, a little credit-card-like doohicky that says you are an Solaris 10 Network Administrator OCE, a piece of cardboard so that the mailman has to exert a small amount of effort before bending your certificate, a congratulations letter, and a little half-sheet flyer that says you should really join the IOUG so that you can sing kumbaya with a group of Oracle professionals just like yourself. That is a lot of Oracle certifications. :)
Are you planning on taking the OCM? I'm hoping to nail it in 2014 or 15, but I'm in no rush.

    HI,
there are some tests from www.boson.com available.
but it's not freeware. you'll have to pay for them.
i guess it's better to get a good book and spend a lot of time praticing on the real system....
    just my 2cent ;)
    have fun.

  • Solaris Networking - The Magic Revealed

Just in case you missed this...
Sunay has been in India for the past few weeks and has actually been working! He's just finished the treatise on Solaris Networking which will become a new section of the Solaris Internals book.
In his blog, Sunay has included excerpts to give us a preview of what's to come!
Check out his blog entry: Solaris Networking - The Magic Revealed at:

    Hello.
I was porting another network driver to Solaris and I used GLD, too.
I do not know which GLD version I was using. (I think not v3; module name is /kernel/misc/gld, not /kernel/misc/mac.)
The documentation I used was "Writing Device Drivers" in the "Solaris 10" section on Sun's documentation site.
All include files were present on Solaris 9/Sparc and OpenSolaris/x86 (I do not have Solaris 10 installed so I cannot tell you if the include files are present.)

  • Configure Solaris network on vmware

    Hi all
I've installed solaris on vmware and now want to configure the network so that I can ping the solaris OS from outside vm (or from the different vm)
Could you please let me know the steps of configurations?
    Thanks in advance

Please provide the name of the network adapter on your solaris vm?
Run dladm show-dev , this will show all network adapters.
If you dont see any then within vmware add a network adapter on the right network to the VM then reboot the VM and run that command again.
Then just let me know and ill proceed with next steps.

  • Solaris Network Configuration

    Hi,
In solaris7 I am able to connect server from local network.
But from external network, I could not.
Where should I configure the server to allow connections from external >networks.
    Thankful to you.

    Hi,
When you say not able to connect, generally it means ping is not working. This could be due to many reasons. Like:
    1. Firewall or router access list setup at your place.
    2. If there is no firewall, server does'nt know how to route packets to external network. In that case you need to define default route in routing table. ( /etc/defaultrouter ).
If you need to discuss it further, please mention your e-mail address, I would contact you for resolving this problem.
    Thanks

  • Solaris 10 Certification

    Hi everyone,
Does anyone know how many questions are on the Solaris 10 Beta Cert exam? It seems to be scheduled for 4 hours (long time), I was just wondering....
    Thanks in advance

The two Exam Prep books by Bill Calkins are pretty good - they cover SPARC and x86 and also have sections on ZFS. I don't know how representative the questions in the books are compared to the real test, but they are good study material and have many things you should know anyway. Most of the practice tests I've seen available on the internet aren't any good however, many of the questions are flat out wrong.

  • Solaris network boot - a20 enable failed

i am trying to install solaris 10 x64 on a HP proliant blade HP bl45p.
It only supports PXE boot and for that i have setup a PXE server that assigns a DHCP address to my blade. The blade gets the IP and start to net boot but fails giving error
    A20 enable failed
    <hangs here>
looks like there is a patch to solve this problem butnot sure how to put that patch to my cd image on the PXE server.
    any views on this??

Which version of Solaris x86 are you installing? This isn't the GRUB based
    S10 1/2006 release, correct?
I guess that HP proliant blade HP bl45p doesn't have a PS/2 keyboard controller
any more (legacy free pc), and fails for a similar reason that GRUB doesn't start
on Intel iMacs: the boot code tries to use the non-existant keyboard controller to
toggle the gate A20, and fails:
    http://www.opensolaris.org/jive/message.jspa?messageID=31818#31818
OTOH, I do see a bug report filed against the old boostrap loader boot.bin
    http://bugs.opensolaris.org/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6230381
and this appears to be fixed in S10 1/2006 . If you haven't tried S10 1/2006...
it might work better on this HP blade hardware.
BTW, you probably have to use a serial console, otherwise it will hang once
again in multiboot, when no i8042 ps/2 keyboard controller is present:

  • Solaris Networking Script

    Hi everyone,
I am charged with changing the ip addresses on 49 servers.
Please is there a way i can automate this process via a script?
If possible how do i go about it.
    Thanks

Well, you probably can, but that doesn't mean you should :) At least not if you are thinking of running the script from one host in order to change the IP of all the remote host, for one thing the script would stop executing once you change its address, and if you make a mistake in your script you would then end up making a lot of hosts inaccessible.
There are two things you have to do, change the configuration on disk and change the running configuration, the configuration on the disk is normally edited by changing the files:
    /etc/hostname.<interface>
    /etc/hosts
    /etc/defaultrouter
    /etc/netmasks
    and sometimes:
    /etc/inet/ipnodes
To change the running configuration you would use ifconfig and route (if you have to change the default router).
One method here could be to change the configuration files and then reboot, just to be certain that the configuration on the disk is correct.
You could also write a script which changes both the running configuration and the files, but i would suggest that you run the script locally from the console.

  • Installing Solaris via network

A few days ago I have got an old Sun server (Netra 1125).
I am fairly new to Sun hardware and I wonder if there is a way to install Solaris via serial cable and a TCP/IP network (I don't have a cdrom and I don't have vga or floppies).
I have a Linux machine nearby. Can I use BOOTP or something like that?
Can anybody point me to some documentation?

solaris' network install is called "jumpstart"
searching for "solaris jumpstart linux" on google provides some pages, in particular is this one that is pretty old (references sunos4) but should work... http://www.unixpeople.com/HOWTO/jumpstart_on_linux.html

  • Updating Oracle Certification, which exam I should pass?

Hello, everyone, please can anybody advice me, regarding question in topic. My Solaris Administrator Certificate will expire in June, and Solaris Network Specialist in July, earlier in Sun there was one exam, for updating current certification. But now we have Solaris 11, which exam I can pass for updating my Solaris certification. Can I pass Solaris 11 exam, for example "transition to Solaris 11" for updating my certification.
    Thank you in advance.

Certifications do not expire, but we do recommend that you keep your certifications up-to-date. Exam 1Z0-820 will upgrade your certification to Solaris 11 (training not required, but recommended). There is not an 11 version of the Network Admin at this time, but your current certification will not expire.

  • Odd Network Problem

    Hi,
I have a strange network problem, can anybody help?
    Basic configuration
I have three networks 10.190.0.0, 10.192.0.0 and 10.193.0.0 joined by a single server running Solaris 11 B64a with a dual port intel card and onboard intel card (e1000g0/g1/g2) each port is plugged into the gigabit port of a seperate Dell powerconnect switch.
they have ip addresses of 10.190.0.2, 10.192.0.1 and 10.193.0.1
The problem. I have connected from a remote machine through a solaris router machine on the 10.190.0.0 network to a computer on the 10.192.0.0 network (Beyond a switch).
    The terminal works fine!
if I ping the 10.190.0.1 which is the other router beyond the box with the three network interfaces packets are not seen by the pinging box. However, if I snoop the interface on the three interface router I see both the ICMP echo requests and replies.
After a considerable length of time 10-30 seconds, a load of the packets suddenly appear on the pinging machine and then continue normally.
    I would like to understand:
    a) where were the packets during the time between the snoop seeing them leave and them arriving at the destination?
    b) why does the terminal not suffer any delays?
We are suffering with a lot of strange network issues at this new site and I am trying to figure out if its the new dell switches, the solaris network stack or something else entirely!
Anybody got any idea whats going on?
    Please Help I am baffled.

It may just be the pinging machine has received the packets, but it will not display them on screen until it has found a name for the remote IP address (or until it times out waiting for one).
Do you get the same behavior with 'ping -n' ?
