Solaris 10 on Compaq ProLiantDL360 G2

I've visited quite a few threads in this forum & the answer seems to download a disk & rename the folder 2x to 210.
However, I'm not sure which disk? ITU or DU? or is it the same thing? Also, the solaris 8 DU for DL360 contains 7 disk program. Is it the right one.
I'm very new to Solaris platform, so please excuse me for any obvious questions, but I really want to get this (my first solaris job) done.
Please tell me where to download the diskettes from & then the steps to follow?
Thanks in advance.

Solaris 10 x86 goes through install proceedure and
then drops out saying No Disks. I seached around and
managed to find drivers for the raid controller for
solaris 9. I put them on a floppy and use F4 to add
them at the start of the install. Everything seems to
go ok but the install still drops out saying No
Disks.Double check that you've got the correct drivers from HP's web site
for the raid adapter that you're using. If Solaris still doesn't find
the disks, you must be using a driver update floppy for a different
type of raid adpater than the one installed in the machine.

    Hello,
could you share your experience with Solaris 8 on Compaq laptops.
I am going to buy Armada M700 - is there any problems with Solaris on it ?
What network card do you recommend to use ?
    Thanks,

Take a look at the HCL...this one is valid for S9 also.

  • Solaris 8 on Compaq Armada E500

Anyone install solaris 8 on Compaq Armada E500, I am having problems with the graphics card, ATI RAGE Mobility-P AGP card.
Is any of the other cards compatible with this system.

The first thing to do with a Compaq is make sure the latest and greatest rompaq has been applied to the board and all devices. Next, download and use the latest and greatest Solaris DCA diskette and use it for the install boot. I am making the assumption you are using the CD this time around. If that doesnt work, you will have to remove all but the bare minimun of hardware and try the install then add each device one by one. The DCA diskettes are updated regularly so thelatest one may solve the issue.

  • Solaris 8 on Compaq ProLiant 1600

We tried to install Solaris 8 on a Compaq ProLiant 1600/500
with dual processor. The installation failed in the "scanning hardware
configuration" phase entering into debugger mode.
We know that our configuration is NOT on the hardware compatibility list.
On the other hand the Compaq ProLiant 1600 (2 CPUs, PIII-550) can be found
    in the HCL.
Any kind of help would be higly appreciated.

  • Solaris x86 on Compaq DL360 (P21) server

I am having issues installing this OS on the server in the title... it is a DL360 with Dual PIII 998 processors and 1.4G RAM.
I setup the RAID controller at statup to use RAID1 with 2 x 36G drives.... and then boot from the Solaris Disk 1 (no the installer disk)...
I am using the RAID controller driver supplied from Compaq for Solaris 8 and at the first stage it successfully is added during the installation process....
The process goes through as per expected, setup network, setup drive layout and even install required OS modules.. then it happens....
... the request to insert the disk holding file CPQARY2 pops up, disk is inserted but the message 'file cannot be found on disk' is returned....
Silly thing is that the system has already used this driver from this disk to load the HDD RAID conntroller info into memory... it even installs to the disks with no problems....
Is this an issue because the drivers are for Sol8 and not 9??... and does anyone know where and if I can get the drivers for 9??.. they are not on the website for this server model....

did you make any experiance regarding Solaris 10 X86 ?No, but...
Unfortunately there is no Solaris 10 driver for the
built in SmartArray of the DL360 (P21) available.... I expect that the same workaround is OK for Solaris 10, that is,
rename the DU/sol_28 directory to DU/sol_210 on HP's driver
    update floppy.

  • Install Solaris 8 on Compaq 5610

I have three disk partions (Win98 / Win2000 / blank for Solaris 8) with a boot manager called "OS Wizard",I keep getting this error when I use either the Boot CD-rom or the diskette. I get past the point where it asks me to select the installation mode, I select 1 for Interactive mode which is the default. Then it starts working, then I keep getting error message:
    "Dump device not configured..... Rebooting"
It continues to stop at the same point and displaying the same error message. YES, I am new the UNIX world, so what am I not doing right?
Please help me ANYONE Kenobe, your my only hope.

I have same problem on compaq 5670. I thought it was because of my video card ATI LT pro which is not supported, so I use nvida TNT2 but I still get same error "dump device is not configured".
please somebody help us on this!

  • INSTALL SOLARIS 8 ON COMPAQ

I am trying to load Solaris 8 on a Compaq Deskpro 700mhz, 9gb drive. I am getting the following error "Unable to mount a Solaris root file system from the device". Everything is SCSI on my machine, but how do I mount a file system?
    Thanks!

Try selecting the cdrom as your boot source. Also, ensure that you've got free disk space available on your hd. If I do both of these, I've been able to install Solaris on my Deskpro EN.

  • Installing Solaris 10 on Compaq Proliant 1600 with Smart 2DH PCI controller

I'm trying to put Solaris 10 on a fairly old 350 Mhz Compaq Proliant.
Compaq SMART-2DH Array controller Ver C rev 3.08
    This is a PCI card
I have tried downloading HP's drivers for the Smart II controller and renaming the DU/ folders to 210 instead of 28, and the installation program will process the drivers
When it continues on to the part where you select the type of installation, it gives these errors:
    /platform/i86pc/kernel/drv/smartii: undefined symbol 'eisa_nvm'
WARNING: mod_load: cannot load module 'msartii'
    WARNING: forceload of drv/smartii failed
    WARNING: forceload of drv/smartii failed
Then it will continue on to the GUI portion of the install and give the error about not having any available disks to install on to (check cables)
Is there any way to make Solaris 10 load these drivers? I know it doesn't support EISA, but this card is PCI. Not sure why it tries to load EISA drivers for it.
This thing also has SCSI built into the motherboard, does anyone know if Solaris 10 will support that particular controller? No idea what it's called. If it will, I'm just going to plug the hard disk cable in to that and go with it.

Has any body found a way to get Solaris 10 to install with the Smart-2DH controller? I've got a Compaq Proliant 1850R that also has that raid controller and the Solaris 10 install rejected the Solaris 8 driver.

  • Solaris 8 install: Compaq Smart Array 431 Controller

How do I get Solaris to recognize the Smart Array 431 controller? It can't find any suitable disks under installation.

I was also wondering why this support was removed since it was in 2.5.1, 2.6, and 2.7? I wish to upgrade my servers to 2.8 however no support for the Array controller. I looked around and Microsoft NT/2000 looks like the only NOS that still contains support for the Compaq Array Smart Controller (EISA). Is it because Microsoft is a Monopoly, or people buy it because they still support legacy hardware/software?

  • Is Solaris 9 Intel mature enough for serious usage?

    Hello everyone,
I'm a Solaris newbie. I downloaded Solaris 8 Intel and installed a few times with and without success since Sun first released version 8 for free download. I had sucessfully installed Solaris 8 on Compaq Proliant Server and IBM Intel Xseries (with bad video) but failed on Dell PowerEdge (due to the lack of RAID and SCSI dirver or I didn't know where to get the drivers my hardware.
The reason I posed the question is that the System Requirement Note states the Solaris 9 x86 OE Customer Early Access software is not suitable for deployment on any production systems.
Is the current release of version 9 stable or final release? I'd rather not waste my bandwidth, time (It'd take me 3 days to download 3 iso images), CDs for beta releases.
    Please advise me.
    Thanks.
    Trent

Depends on what you mean by "serious usage". Like right now, it provides a electronic place for me to dump my school work to instead of bringing disks or blank CDs.
Overall, it's an alright system. Though, Solaris 9 was a little more difficult to set up on my old computer (probably more because of the computer itself rather than the software.)
But, I did it. Installed Solaris 9 on 32 MB of RAM on a Pentium MMX 166.

  • /temp filesystem is full

I apologise for being a plonker, but I have a problem installing Solaris on a Compaq E500 laptop.
I try to install Solaris 8 X86 version on this laptop following Sun's instructions to the letter until it gets to the FDISK stage then problems occur.
The laptop has an 18GB hard disk and the BIOS does not correctly report the size of the hard disk to FDISK. FDISK says that it is only 8GB big. I have flashed the BIOS with the latest version from Compaq but it still has the same results.
However, FDISK does let me create Solaris partitions and continue the installation. Everything is fine until we get to the section "Copying mini-root", preparing to eject media and restart etc, then the message /temp filesystem is full (something like that) appears several times and the machine then locks. This happens regardless of how big I set the swap partition.
I am making a big assumption here that this is caused by the hard disk size not being correctly reported. Is there anyway around this problem?
    Many thanks,
    Richard.

    Richard,
Two things: First, try booting the "Software 1 of 2" cdrom rather than the "Installation" one. This skips the whole "copying miniroot" business and runs from the cdrom miniroot during the install.
Second; make sure you are using the latest possible DCA floppy if you are using one.
There may still be driver issues you need to address on the E500 itself but these two step should get you going in the right direction.

Looks like the LUN is not configured correctly on the storage array. The kernel can't take the LUN online.
I have seen this on various boxes, most of the time it was either that the LUN wasn't set online on the SAN box or there is a SCSI reservation on the LUN.
Can you access the LUN from another host?
