Solaris 10 on HP nc6000 laptop

I've installed Solaris 10 FCS on laptop HP nc6000.
During the boot Solaris complains about IRQ11.

Also, playback in Solaris is very noisy. Defenately there is something wrong with IRQ sharing.
The question is how to fix the problem?
PS. MS Windows works perfect on this laptop.

Considering all of the cruft that comes on a computer these days, I would just go for it and see what happens. I format everything I buy new and reinstall 'only' the necessary stuff anyway.
You could also check opensolaris as it is more likely to be installed on something like that.

  • How do i upgrade my hard drive on a hp/compaq nc6000 laptop

I have a HP/Compaq NC6000 laptop and the hard drive has failed, I have tried 60GB and an 80GB known good hard drive in the machine bit all it says is "Non system disk", how do I upgrade or do I have to put a 30GB HDD back into it

    Hi:
You have to install an operating system on it.
Install the 80 GB HDD and boot into the BIOS. It should be showing up there.
If it is, you should be fine.
Without an operating system installed, that is the error you get.
If that disk has an operating system on it from another PC, there is a very good chance it won't boot up and again, you will get that error.

  • Solaris installation on amd64 laptop

    Hi!
I am trying to install Solaris 10 on a laptop (HP Pavilion zv6000 with an amd64 processor).
The installation begins normally with GRUB. The problems I a experiencing start when I have the opportunity to choose between 'Solaris interactive', 'Custom jumpstart' and take place whatever is the choice I made with GRUB (Solaris, ttya or ttyb).
The screen becomes almost unreadable. Strange characters are displayed and many others are missing. It is also impossible to interact with the system using the keyboard. The only way to proceed is to wait to reach the timeout to select automatically the default option.
Moreover the installation freezes randomly, sometimes during the countdown (after which 'Solaris interactive' is chosen by default) or afterwards... But this always takes place at different times. Anyway I cannot read what is displayed on the screen.
    Would you have any ideas?
    Thank you very much!

The reason is simple why it's work on VirtualBox. In VBox, this software emulates a generic graphical chipset. In one phrase, we have the same chipset for each machine type.
Look if Solaris 10 can run with VESA driver and when not you can still share the chipset reference that you have and I can try to see if this is supported or not.

The most common problem is X. First of all you can check this list: http://www.bolthole.com/solaris/x86-laptops.html

  • Installing Solaris on Thinkpad 600 Laptop

I have installed Solaris 8 on my laptop which is an IBM Thinkpad 600. Unfortunately, I am unable to configure the X Windows as my graphics card (NeoMagic) does not seem to be recognized.
Has anyone got any thoughts on how to resolve this.
Furthermore, I also have a Compaq Pressario 1600 which has a similar problem (graphics card is a Trident).

I would check the HCL to see if any one has gotten the system installed on that board. ECS isn't known to be a good board for a lot reasons and you find out the reasons by searching.

  • Upgrading Graphics for Solaris 8 on Dell laptop

I installed solaris 8 for Intel on a Dell Laptop. I could only get the 16 color option working.
What drivers or patches can I use and where can I get them????

    Hi,
I don't know what video card you have, but I just downloaded this porting kit for solaris8 intel. It work perfectly on my desktop Dell 4100. I think it will also work for the dell laptop. The porting kit is NOT XFree86; it only make use of the xfree86 drivers for solaris.

  • Install Solaris 8 on Gateway Laptop with Windows XP

I have Gateway laptop with Windows XP pre-installed. Now I want to install Solaris 8 without removing the Windows XP. I wanted to use dual boot option. Can any body advice me if there is any whit paper on this subject(with step by step insturctions). I have partition magic but it can only partition and format to NTFS, FAT, FAT32 and Ext2 (linux only).
    Thanks for your help.

It can be done but the biggest stump is the network interface. I've an Acer 350 series with a built-in NIC. I also use XFree86 because the Xsun doesn't recognize the video card. The biggest problem in getting Solaris x86 working is getting the network interface to work, since the PCMCIA support is horrible. You need to be sure the the components on your laptop conform to the HCL. As for X, just use XFree86.

  • Solaris on x86 Dell Laptop - keyboard driver!

    Hello,
As some of you may have a Dell Laptop I am asking if anyone has
had any success installing Solaris 8 for Intel. If you have please
    drop me a line.
So far I have worked my way past the hangs during the install's
configuration of /dev. I had to remove all references to cardbus in
the "Edit Device" settings of the device configuration assistant.
But then I hit the second problem where the first keypress at the
language selection window sends repeating characters until the keyboard
buffer is full. In other words it goes nuts because the Solaris driver
does not support the Dell Latitude CPi laptop keyboard. I know it is
not a supported configuration but I have little option since Sun are
no longer interested in supporting laptops in Solaris 8.
I already know there is a USB keyboard workaround but I dont
fancy myself hauling around a seperate keyboard just so I can use
    Solaris 8.
More specificallly I am looking for driver settings to make the
existing keyboard driver work or an alternative keyboard driver to solve the
issue. Sun can you help out here?
Any suggestions appreciated, especially some input from Sun.
    Sincerely

    Hi knightweb,
Did you checked the BigAdmin center to know if your box is compatible / known to work ?
The installation program says your drive is RO ? Are you installing from a CD ? If yes, be sure that the disk choosed to the installation is not the CD drive (I don't know Dell 6350 anyway)
Did you tried to broke the last partition if there's one with fdisk ?

  • Solaris 10 x86 on laptops

Has anybody tried installed Solaris 10 on Averatec 3200-series laptop?
What would you guys recommend for a laptop (that hopefully is less than $800 new or used) that would run Solaris 10?
I am mostly going to be learning how to program Fortran 95 on it and it won't be overly complex programs either.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I installed Solaris 10 on a Dell D800 and a C800. Worked OK, but never could find network NIC drivers for any of the PCMIA cards (mostly 3Com) that we have. Also, the graphics were generally screwed up but hooking the laptop up to an external monitor worked fine.

  • SOlaris 10 install from laptop

Hi, I was just wondering if there's any way I can make a Solaris installation using a Solaris OS image on my laptop, so i don't have to carry a USB key, or change it everytime I need to install or re-install a server.
Basically, I would setup ALOM, and then run the installation from my Windows based laptop while being able to do other work during the installation. Is there anyway I could do this?
    Thanks

VMWare or Virtual Box could setup a virtual Solaris instance that installs from your laptop.
    Cheers,

  • My NI FBUS PCMCIA card locks up HP nc6000 laptops

Is there a NI support engineer phone number I can give to a HP 3rd level engineer I have working on this to further investigate this problem.
They suspect an incompatibility with the 02Micro PCMCIA controller and the NI FBUS card.
    HELP!

The PCMICA-FBUS is not compatible with O2Micro Cardbus controller. But it is compatible with other cardbus controllers like TI, Ricoh, Toshiba, NEC, CL and etc. In this case, you have to choose another laptop if you want to use the PCMCIA-FBUS card.
At the same time, National Instruments will release a new PCMCIA-FBUS Series 2 card soon (this month), which is compatible with O2Micro cardbus controller.
