Solaris 10 + Oracle 8
I want to install Oracle 8 on a Solaris 10 (SUN V20z BOX - 2AMD OPTERONs) - sre there any issues that i will not be able to install ?
Thank You Robert
The main issue comes from Oracle, they don't support it. On x86 platform even 9i is not supported.
And, 8i is desupported itself.

SAP NW CE 7.2 Distributed Install on Solaris/Oracle Issues
Hi,
has anyone used the current Installation DVD (51038030) to install a distributed CE 7.2 system. SAPInst fails to install the SCS instance and doesn't unpack the kernel etc as part of the process. The CE 7.1 DVD for Solaris/Oracle installs ok after I downloaded the new control xml which was atached to OSS 1249364. I've got a high priority message open with SAP on the problems with the CE 7.2 installation but thought I'd see if anyone else has encountered any issues with the 7.2 Solaris/Oracle installation.

JDBC 1.2 for Solaris Oracle 8.1.6 - run time error
We have Oracle 8.1.5 on a Solaris. I wrote and compiled a simple Java progam to connect to the database which is right on the same machine. The compile is fine, the LD_LIBRARY_PATH is set to everything I can imagine it needs. The program fails when I run it:

Any help would be appreciated. Let me know if some bit of information is missing.In plain English (as I understand this): Oracle posted drivers that we won't be able to use until 8.1.6 comes out. The readme does indeed say, "JDBC OCI Driver 8.1.6: Client-side JDBC for use on a machine where OCI 8.1.6 is installed." Plus, the FAQ states, "There is no 8.1.6SDK JDBC-OCI driver - this will be available with 8.1.6"
That FAQ was just updated (it is the top item on today's Technet front page).
But the FAQ is erroneous: the driver exists and is available: from an item on the technet front page (from Jan 17th).
We don't have Oracle 8.1.6 here and it doesn't appear to be available yet.
I imagine that this driver was made available for the beta testers out there needing it and also for the rest of us to be able to check ahead if we can still compile.
I do wish they would plainly say as much on that download page (or in the readme). It would have saved some trouble chasing down why this doesn't run. -
In solaris oracle env not getting set always i hv to compile .profile
In solaris 10 intel version oracle ,listener everything is working but problem is in terminal for each session i hv to compile . .profile where is the exact problem ? why my profile is not getting set permanently.
Dude wrote:

I am going to quit while I am behind so as to not make it any worse. -
SAP installation hangs while installation EHP4 ready on Solaris-Oracle
Hi,
I am in a process of installing EHP4 READY on Solaris , with ORacle database.
at 13 Phase CREATE DATABASE, the installation hangs up
when i check the log ora_sql_results.log it says
SP2-0310: unable to open file "ora_scr_tmp.sql"
not getting any clue i have added group sapinst to user orasid, and also gave full permission to the file
"ora_scr_tmp.sql "
still no luck,
please advise.
Regards,
Irfan..Hello Irfan,
SP2-0310: unable to open file "ora_scr_tmp.sql"
There are 3 possibilities...
1. Users and there Group membership is incorrect.
2. ORACLE_HOME directory permissions are not set or incorrect.
3. Profile parameters are not set..
Check this as below:
1. Check the Users and Group membership as below:
Users -----------> Primary Groups
<SID>adm ------> sapsys,oper,dba,sapinst
ora<SID> -------> dba,oper,sapinst
2. Check that ORACLE_HOME has 755 permissions and ora<sid>:dba should be the user and owner. You can set it with below command:
# chmod 755 -R /oracle
# chown ora<SID>:dba -R /oracle
3. Check if you defined ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID environment variable for user ora<SID>.

DB13 on distributed system ECC 6 EHP 4 Solaris - Oracle error
Dear all,
I have a new ECC 6 EHP 4 ABAP only distributed system installation on Solaris 10- Oracle 10 platform. Kernel version 7.01.
Let call application/CI hostname = apphost
and DB Instance hostname = dbhost
I tried to set up DBA job (checkdb, update statistic, backup) via DB13, but its always end with error like this:
Can't exec external program (No such file or directory)
External program terminated with exit code 1.
RFC SAPXPG_DBDDEST_dbhost settings are like this:
Program : /sapmnt/KCP/exe/sapxpg
Target host: dbhost
Gateway host: apphost
Gateway service: sapgwxx
I have set rhosts on both server already.
Shell : sh
Looks like it cannot find executable program when try to do it remotely.
Please help..
Thanks
FendhySorry, i mean the Shell is /bin/sh
I tried to follow this Note 1025707 - DBA Cockpit planning calendar and remote Oracle databases and tried to set up the scenario using rsh.
I copied all brtools files to home dir of <sid>adm on dbhost and tried again on DB13.
It can find the br*tools executables but now it show error :
BR0152E Environment variable ORACLE_SID is not set
So i got a clue for this error. I think since it was run on rsh, the environment variables weren't loaded for the rsh session.
Still searching to load this Environment variable on the rsh session.

Linux Oracle versus Solaris Oracle?
Anyone care to enuerate the differences and what performance
impact they have?
I do not have access to a Solaris box.
I have noticed on Linux that even when I attempt to connect to
the linux server over TCP/IP on what (I think is) a cached
connection, the listner goes into action, a new process is
created, which grows to 13M of shared memory, and 2 other smaller
oracle processes are scheduled. When I finish processing the 13M
process is killed. This seems to be a big bottleneck that I am
assuming a MTS obviates -- am I right?
Do I wait till February for the real thing on Linux or do I spend
the bucks on Solaris now?

? Moving Solaris Oracle database to Linux Redhat Oracle
Thanks in advance.
Is it possible to take a cold database backup (datafiles, backup of control file, Sql*net, Initsid.ora) from Oracle on Solaris and move it to a Redhat Linux Oracle with the same database version 9.2.0.8 and bring up the database on Linux as a cloned database?
I'm thinking that this will be simple to migrate to give fokes a place to continue to do there work while I build a new database on RedHat. Is this a feasible?
ThanksImpossible to move between between cross platform even if it is between unix versions
But it possible in 10g using Cross platform tablespace ....In 9i you cannot ...Have to use Export/Import....
No alternative
or
Upgrade the 9i to 10g in solaris and then you can use crossplatform tablespace
but that requires lot of testing and should be carried whether you need and you need to know the impact of the applications
My suggestion would Export/import -

How much spaceMinimum required for ECC 6.0 ProductionVersion solaris+oracle
I need to install the ECC 6.0 Production Version on Solaris 10 with oracle10g, mimimum how much Harddisk space we need to required.
Edited by: KONDALU on Jun 25, 2008 11:00 AMhi,
you can measure it via : [service.sap.com/quicksizer]
SAP says : ( taken from service.sap.com/quicksizer):
"The Quick Sizer calculates CPU, disk, memory and I/O resource categories based on throughput numbers, and the number of users working with the different SAP Business Suite components in a hardware and database independent format. The purpose of the tool is to give customers and prospects an idea about the size of the system necessary to run the proposed workload. This is especially useful for initial budget planning"
so it will be various, depend on your hardware availability, and how complex your business process will be run.
hope it helps,

Regards,
ThomasHello Thomas,
It looks like a Solaris issue. Check if the home directory
/home is reserved in the Solaris configuration.
Check if this fix the problem please perform the following steps:
1. modify /etc/auto_master file to change the entry for '/home' to say
'/autohome' instead
2. reboot
3. rmdir /home
4. ln -s /export/home /home (make sure /export/home exists)
Also you could create soladm manually in advance.
Hope this helps,

How to printing oracle report by specific printer name on solaris?
When running reports
-http://host/reports/rwservlet?destype=PRINTER&desname=printername&desformat=dflt.prt&report=test.rdf&userid=test/test@TEST&MODE=CHARACTER
report with destype=printer desname=printername, the report fails with REP-50159 Executed successfully but there were some errors when distribute the output
if set default printer by add PRINTER=printername export PRINTER; in uiprint.txt
it can print to printer.
i found document id 394554.1 in metalink but it can't fix problem.
https://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/f?p=130:14:342229662272785964::::p14_database_id,p14_docid,p14_show_header,p14_show_help,p14_black_frame,p14_font:NOT,394554.1,1,1,1,helvetica
To fix the problem, execute the following steps:
1. Take a backup of opmn.xml
2. Edit opmn.xml and include the path information of the new printer:
For In-process report server add the path information within <OC4J_BI_Forms>
Eg:
<process-type id="OC4J_BI_Forms" module-id="OC4J">
<environment>
<variable id="DISPLAY" value="localhost:0"/>
<variable id="LD_LIBRARY_PATH"
value="D:\Oracle\product\FRHome_1\lib32:D:\Oracle\product\FRHome_1\lib"/>
<variable id="PATH" value="//printserver;D:/Oracle/product/FRHome_1/bin;................./>
</environment>
Here //printserver is the network drive where is printer is installed.
For standalone report server add the path information within <reportservername>
Eg:
<ias-component id="standalonerepsvr01" status="enabled" id-matching="false">
<process-type id="ReportsServer" module-id="ReportsServices">
<process-set id="standalonerepsvr01" restart-on-death="true" numprocs="1">
<environment>
<variable id="DISPLAY" value="localhost:0"/>
<variable id="LD_LIBRARY_PATH"
value="D:\Oracle\product\FRHome_1\lib32:D:\Oracle\product\FRHome_1\lib"/>
<variable id="PATH" value="//printserver;D:/Oracle/product/FRHome_1/bin;........../>
</environment>
3. Reload opmn : opmnctl reload
4. Restart opmn: opmnctl stopall , opmnctl startall
5. Run the report with destype=printer and desname=newprintername
my config (solaris)
oracle application server release 2 (10.1.2.0.2)
i used axis printserver name is SZ_R02.
<process-type id="OC4J_BI_Forms" module-id="OC4J">

WLS6.1, Oracle Thin XA, Oracle DB on Solaris = no dice
I am having the exact same problem.
The only hint to an answer I have been able to find in the WL newsgroups is
that it may be related to a Solaris Oracle install. ????
BEA... any ideas?
me: WLS6.1 on W2000, Oracle 8.1.7 thin driver (tried both with and without
the jta.zip and jndi.zip on classpath), Oracle 8.1.7 on Solaris... also
tried with Oracle 9.0.1 (Solaris) and 9.0.1 thin driver, and 9.0.1
thin->Oracle 8.1.7(Solaris).
On a sidenote... I don't think you should have "ENABLE 2 PHASE COMMIT
ACTIVE" set. According
to the docs, this is only for drivers which need to fake 2 phase commit
capability... the option is poorly worded in the console if this is the
case. Regardless - I've tried with this setting both on and off and it
doesn't make a difference.
