Solaris 10, PCMCIA NIC issue

I've installed Solaris 10 3/05 on a Dell Inspiron 8100,. A pcmcia controller does not appear in the autoconfig scan. The NIC is a DLink PCMCIA card, and the o/s does not see the interface. Any suggestions?

Were you ever able to get the nic card working? I am trying to get a D-Link DFE-690 working on my Dell, and am not sure if I should just take it back. One of the Sun websites show a 3Com card as Solaris 10 compatible, but I have been unable to locate it to buy. Seems it came with a Toshiba laptop.

  • Dhcp and pcmcia NIC startup (SOLVED)

    Hello;
I'm pretty impressed with Arch up to now, but am having a problem with the pcmcia NIC. I'm sure it's some simple config problem, but I haven't been able to figure it out.
I'm using a Network Everywhere NP100, which uses the axnet driver. No problems there. I have it set as eth0="dhcp".
It works fine, but when I restart the box, or start up from a cold start, dhcp isn't assigning an IP, and during boot, network fails on start. After the box is up and running, I have to remove the card from the slot and reinsert it to get dhcp to assign an IP.
I haven't seen this problem with other distros, so I know it can be fixed, not not sure how. Below is my rc.conf, maybe somebody can spot something I'm missing?

    # When you boot the machine the first time it is just fine?
No it has this problem every time the machine is started.
    # Do you really have to remove the card from the slot, isn't 'cardctl eject' enough?
Removing and reinserting the card is faster than typing out a command so that's what I do.
    # Does it work with static IP?
Don't know, router is set up as DHCP and haven't tried changing it to static. As it's a mobile machine, I'd prefer it works using dhcp.
    # Does your machine own another nic, so the race who will become eth0 could be won by an ethernet card?
No, I just have the one NIC at the moment. I have a wireless pcmcia NIC as well, but haven't installed/configured it yet as I don't use it much and would like to solve this ethernet problem first.
#By the way, which kernel modules own the axnet drivers?I can't see any matching module in rc.conf's modules section, and you have hotplug disabled.
It's owned by pcmcia, which loads the module itself when the card is detected. This is working perfectly and the driver modules loads no problem. As far as I can tell the problem seems to be with the network daemon itself, but I could be mistaken about this.
I disabled hotplug for the moment while I try to figure this out. At first I thought hotplug was the culprit but even with it disabled the problem remains. I just haven't bothered to re-enable hotplug as I already have all the modules loading through rc.conf anyway and it speeds up booting.
Hope the additional info may help figure this out. I'm stumped.

Trying to get 3Com cards working under Solaris is a career, or even a career-limiting move.
I find that Solaris is very happy with the Intel PRO/100 card, all the way back to version 2.5.1
Solaris 8 (or 2.8, whatever you call it) is far more aware of recent network cards. It even recognizes network cards integrated on the motherboard.
    Good luck.

  • HP Elitebook 840 NIC issue

Strange issue.  I have an Elitebook 840 with Windows 7 Enterprise 64 Bit.   Once installed, I copied the driver disk to an external drive and installed the drivers.  All the drivers have installed with one exception.  When the NIC driver installs, the system freezes.  No mouse movement, nothing.  I do a hard shut down and reboot and it freezes on the Welcome screen. If I reboot and go into Safe Mode (No Network) it loads up.  I remove the driver and reboot and it boots up fine. I have searched far and wide for updated drivers and cannot find any.  Even the driver on the HP site does the same.   Anyone have a suggestion?

  • Dual NIC Issues

I am trying to run my Arch computer as a router to allow another computer on my home network to use the internet (probably using IP Masq.) The issue is that when I plug in two nics into my computer my ADSL connection will connect but I will not be able to go anywhere on the Internet and when I plug my cat5 cable going to the other computer no lights come on the nic. Yet when I plug in the DSL cat5 cable (into the alternate nic) the lights come on solid and I  can longer even dial after running adsl-setup again.
Taking a quick look at ifconfig it seemed that both cards were working and so was my ADSL connection. So I turned of the nic I wasn't using, disconnected my ADSL connection and tried again. Again it connected but I couldn't go anywhere. I then ran hwd -s and found that though it saw my two cards their aliases at the end were both eth but I when then ran ifconfig it was clear that both an eth0 and 1 existed.
Please help anyone I am so confused.

    Thanks everyone,
I have the two nics coexisting now and I am trying my best now to figure out how to get the computer my client computer on the net. SO far I have my eth1 and eth0 cards routed and I have setup a  gateway for the client and assigned it an IP address (keep in mind the client is an ugly WIN 2000 NT MAchine  :x ). I have my Masq firewall setup but I am stuck until I can figure out more.

  • Solaris 9 - Driver Detachment Issue - ddi_set_driver

    Hi all,
I'm porting a driver source code from Solaris 8 to Solaris 9.
This driver is a pseudo devices driver which is hooked to the sd (disk) driver.
I have a detachment driver issue. I don't arrive to release one instance of my driver (it may have several instances. In fact, one per sd instance).
Up to Solaris 8, it was made with a call like :
    ddi_set_driver(dev_info_t, NULL)
But now (on Solaris 9), this function seems not to do the same thing. Indeed, the 'prtconf -P' command enables to display driver is already attached to sd instance although it should not be.
    Anybody can help me?

Having problem during my installation of oracle DB.
the installer keeps on prompting that files not found and the directories and files permission seems different from expected
I attached the images of the files the installer is looking for and also the /oracle/<SID>/11ginstall_11202.log
I also attached the thing i put in ENV command
Not sure if its the issue in the oracle profile or installer itself or wrong input
    please help

    Hi Frogoso,
Please have a check on the known issues SAP note for Oracle installation.
Section G: is related to Solaris
1431796 - Oracle 11.2.0: Troubleshooting the Software Installation
You may re-check whether all the Solaris related pre-requisites are met before executin RUNINSTALLER.
Suggestion here would be to go with latest available Oracle patch 11.2.0.4 as you are installing a new system.
    Hope this helps.

  • Novatel PCMCIA card issue: code 10.

I'm trying to install novatel Merlin U630 UMTS/GPRS PCMCIA card. But I'm having a "code 10" installation issue where the card appear to be malfunctioning. I searched for the issue (the card is not malfunctioning because it can be install on a centrno system). I went to the novatel website and they where reporting the same issue on other 4 laptop models from different manufacturers (like toshiba satellite 3000 series). Apperantly the problem lies with the resource management ( you can read about this issue here http://www.novatelwireless.com/support/files/TSBUMTS_001_EC10_.pdf ).
One solution requires me to manually assign resources to the device. But at least here in windows home I can't change it because it says the device is no using any resources (since it is malfunctioning) the other option is to ask the pc manufacturer and BIOS manufacturer to update the BIOS since this is supposed to be a BIOS issue...
Really, I'm finding this AMI BIOS very limiting... I reported on other post that I'm not being able to boot from a USB HDD (the same I've always booted before on other computers) but I could boot from a simple USB pendisk... also I find the BIOS options very limited... Maybe AMI should consider a serious update for the BIOS...
(If anyone could help me I would be very glad since I'm paying the monthly fee for the3G service but I can't use it....)

I have now tried with the preload without any luck. Or that is not completly true, I could put a 1 gB Kingston card in the computer and it would pop up. But it also freezed the computer from time to time.
If I took the card again after a freeze, the computer went back to normal.
But out of 6 SD cards, that was the only one I managed to get working.
I tried all kind of sizes:
    64 mb (no luck)
    512 mb (no luck)
1 gb (kinda worked - sometimes freeze)
    2 gb (no luck)
    4 gb (no luck)
    8 gb  (no luck)
So now I have called Lenovo support and they will come and fix it for me.

  • 100Mbit NIC Issue

I am currently using CVI-RT 9.0.  I was told to post my question to this forum (versus a CVI forum) since it involves a RT matter.
I am having a problem with my system when the NIC is set to autonegoiate or 100MBit.  I get erratic system behavior.  At times the system seems to work fine.  Other times I get network timeouts.  However, when I force the NIC to 10MBit the problems seem to go away.  I had previously posted this issue in the CVI forum when using an earlier version of CVI-RT.  After many messages indicating that I was probalbly doing something wrong, I eventally heard that there was a problem with the stack and this issue was under investagation by R&D.  Is there still a issue with the stack related to the 100MBit speed setting?

    Hi Tom,
I was able to find the report that was filed before.  Unfortunately it is still under investigation.  The ID number for this issue is 102172; when a new version of CVI-RT is released you will be able to use that ID number to determine if the issue has been fixed or not.  Again, I apologize for the inconvenience, but we are working to fix this issue.

  • NIC issue's with DMM

Has anyone had any issues with the DMM NIC.  I have been having a considerable amount of dropped frames and duplicate transmissions, I think my NIC1 is going bad, when trying to utilize NIC2.  The NIC never comes ready, but I have link status.   Are their any specific port settings I can mannually set, or a way to see which NIC it is pointing too.   Are their any limitations with using NIC2.

Really? I use youtube every day (yes, everyday for a solid hour) and I don't experience poor video quality. I also prefer the iPad youtube app over using my desktop. I don't have to deal with flash and I it is a lot more immersive of an experience with the iPad because of the excellent app design it has. If you have a problem with not being able to use flash to watch TV or other videos on specific websites you should contact them and request them to support HTML5 for mobile devices.

The support package is available for everyone and is not limited to corporates. But it can be excessive depending the platform you use, and this is also the case with the standard Linux distributions, other UNIX distributions and Windows . But if you look for stability and security, the cost is negligible.
You have, with this contract, access to : firmwares, critical security patches, bug fixes, feature enhancements, and even any new releases that become available while you maintain active support coverage. This include Oracle Linux, Oracle Solaris, Oracle VM and Enterprise Manager Ops Center.

  • PCMCIA NIC not initialized

Okay, I have a Dell Inspiron 3500 running a newly installed Arch system, and an SMC 8040TX ethernet card. The card is supported by pcnet_cs, and I have been using it under Linux with this and other laptops for several years. However, the card is not properly detected at boot time. The relevant modules are loaded: pcmcia_core, pcmcia, yenta_socket, and pcnet_cs, but the card's indicator lights are steadily lit (as opposed to flashing, which would indicate that the network interface is up), and ifconfig shows that there is no eth0 interface.
I have had this problem in the past; what I used to do was
      /etc/rc.d/pcmcia restart
That worked about 95% of the time. But anyway, there's no pcmcia daemon any more, so maybe I need to find an actual solution. ;-)
I thought maybe adding adding the pcmcia hook to the mkinitcpio kernel image would help. Nope. I have also tried introducing a delay by loading pcmcia and yenta_socket in rc.conf, but moving pcnet_cs and all network-dependent daemons into rc.local. No dice. Removing and reinserting the card doesn't help either. The only technique I've found that works is to switch to single-user mode (telinit 1), then go back to multiuser (telinit 3). Obviously I would rather not do that every time I boot the machine.
Is it something in the UDev rules, maybe? Or ... ? Suggestions appreciated![/list]

b0re wrote:i had the same problem with my intel card.. all I had to do was edit /etc/rc.conf and remove the ! from pcmcia and hotplug. after that everything worked just fine.. hope that helps...
It's nice to get a response--finally. But how long ago was that? See, unless I badly misunderstand something (always possible), there is no pcmcia daemon any more; certainly, there is no /etc/rc.d/pcmcia on my system, and the pcmcia-cs package is no longer in the main Arch repository. So removing that ! won't do anything, will it?
As for hotplug ... I really don't understand what's up with that. I heard that the switch from devfs to udev meant that hotplug would be obsolete ... yet something by that name still seems to exist. So I'll try that at least ... though I think I already have.
forgot.. also had to add acpi=off to my kernel line in grubs menu.lst
Meaning ACPI will be turned off? [SIGH] Two steps forward, one step back.
Well, I'll see if I can make any use of your suggestions. Thanks.

  • Solaris 10 logon password issue

    Hi,
    I bought a sun fire 2100 with Solaris 10 pre-installed;
When the system boot up: it shows:
Root password for system maintenance (control-d to bypass):
But I didn't setup any password when system is boot at the first time or maybe I hit some key by mistake, coz when system firstly bootup, I had monitor issue that I can't see console output.
So I just hit enter, and system seems by-pass the pass word?
Nov 3 18:07:06 su: 'su root' succeeded for root on /dev/console
    Sourcing //.profile-EIS.....

Then, I can't either create a new folder/file or setup a new root pass word.
mkdir: Failed to make directory "a"; Read-only file system

I guess all those issues are related to the logon password. What I should do to recover the logon password?
    thanks,

    thanks for the suggestions,

I run "svcs -x" and "svcs -v" and get the logs as attached in the end.

Since I am the new user for solaris 10, I wonder how to fix those initialization errors?
    3.
If I have to reinstall Solaris 10, can I do it without DVD Rom? (My sun fire 2100 box is coming without DVD reader, but have USB port)

  • MSI H77MA-G43 ESXi NIC issues

Hello, I've read that numerous people on here have got this board to work with ESXi, I was wondering if you anyone had any issues with the onboard NIC? As my install isn't picking anything up, and I was wondering if you had to do anything special to get it to work?

check the socket pins under the CPU as it should automatically switch to PCI-E video card and your symptoms sound like the pins are bent under the CPU (random reboot and failure to access BIOS) and are not making appropriate contact!
also what PSU do you have?

  • Multiple NIC Issues

Hello everyone. I'm in the process of certifying a system with four dual-port gigabit ethernet ports. I can pass all tests with only one of those dual-port cards enabled, but when I have any more I fail the test.
My question is has anybody had any luck with >2 NICS using the same driver? Specifically an Intel e1000g driver?

Kevin, will this fix the problems with trying to do installations with
multiple NICs, or is that still out there??
