Solaris 10 Printer share by Samba SWAT. Then install onto windows client

Hello,
I am having trouble with below.
1) Installing printer on Solaris 10
2) Sharing the printer via SWAT
3) Install the printer on Solaris from Windows client.
Where can I find the basic information for above 3 which I need to achieve?
I have installed the printer locally onto Solaris 10, and was able to print, but I just can't share it to Windows.
And because of that, I am not sure if I am doing the local printer installation in the right way or not..
If anybody can lead me to a good website or good document for printer installation and sharing,
please let me know.
Regards,
Tanuki

Well, if you don't think the online Documentation helpful, then the better way is reading step-by-step instructions from a book. Get to local bookstore, i.e Barne&Nobles or Border or any big local bookstore, there should be pretty good book for Unix Administrator (Solaris version).
If you have time and think you can memorize then, read on the spot; otherwise, buy the book for future reference.
If that's not what you had in mind, then this link of free online book might help : http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/solaris8/chapter/ch04.html
Normally, oreilly online bookstore offers free books to accredited universities, colleges, and organizations. However, if that option isn't for you, it might even offer free sample chapters that might just suit your needs.
hoep it helps.

  • Is it ok to download firefox onto a flash drive and then install onto a new pc?

article on a3webtech.com says this is a safer way to get firefox onto a new pc so that you don't have to open Internet Explorer to download it. reason given is that without good security installed you're asking for trouble by opening your new pc and connecting to internet with IE. But, somewhere else a comment was made that registry info. may be messed up by downloading and then installing from a flash drive.

You can download the ''full'' installer from the following page:
    https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/
(Make sure the word "Stub" is not in the suggested file name, because the stub installer needs an internet connection to download additional files.)

  • How to make Solaris 10 Operating System 11/06 CD install onto a PC

I have the Solaris 10 Operating System 11/06 CDs from Sun.
I am now trying to install the O/S onto a new internal HDD.
Powering up with the first CD (03-104927-01) in the drive, the monitor reports "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER".
Is not the CD a system disk?
How do I install Solaris from the CDs?
    Additional information:
    BIOS Setup information:
IDE Channel 0 Master - HDD
IDE Channel 4 Slave - DVD
    Thanks for the help

In your first post you discuss CDs (plural) as if you have the 4-disk or 5-disk set.
You do mention that the optical drive is a DVD.
Now you describe the optical media as being DVDs.
In the future, you need to be precise with details if you hope for `remote` assistance, such as in an Internet discussion forum.
I can only guess that your desktop computer's drive just has some occasional issues with various media.
Perhaps it is old and has issues reading the specific position where DVD boot sectors might be.
Booting from media has no relationship with what might already be installed.
Your laptop is likely newer with a fully capable drive.
That laptop optical drive might be better able to read DVD boot sectors.
I see two alternatives left to you.
Replace the drive, even if only temporarily with a borrowed drive...
    else...
Download and burn the CD variety of Solaris.

  • HT5639 if i use boot camp to establish windows on my Macbook pro can i then install a windows program and run it without another software ie parallels?

Can I use a windows program such as QuickBooks on my macbook pro 15inch with only using boot camp or do i need to have another program?

Boot Camp is everything you need to run a Windows application.
Boot Camp allows you to install Windows in a second volume, so you can start up there and run all your Windows apps without needing any Mac OS X app. It's true that OS X apps like Parallels or VMware Fusion allow you to use your Boot Camp partition in Mac OS X, but it looks like you don't want that

  • Installing minimal windows client for ODBC

Does anybody know how to install an oracle ODBC driver to access oracle databases with the following:
    - keep oracle client as small as possible (jdbc needs less than 1.5 MB!)
    - not to use tnsnames.ora (jdbc does not need this and works fine)
    - connecting to databases from workstation as user and not administrator (8.x works but 10.....)
    - not to change registry nls_lang entry for connecting to different databases with different settings!
I did never before encounter problems like this with other databases. As we have to user oracle (with ODBC) we have to configure our clients.
btw: odbc driver version is 10g

Thanks a lot for your help,
I got a step further. The mistake was to set the path on the main directory which in my case was C:\Instantclient
instead of the directory created unzipping the installation files: C:\Instantclient\instantclient_10_2
But now I'm in defining the datasouce:
As stated in the help file:
Before you configure the data source, you must configure network database services so there is an entry for each TNS Service Name. To do this, start the Oracle Net Manager by one of the following methods:
From the start menu, select Programs, select Oracle for Windows NT, and select the Oracle Net Manager.
Using the Oracle Net Manager, you can create an entry in the tnsnames.ora file for each TNS Service Name. The Oracle Net Manager is installed when you install Oracle Net Services.
But I don't have any entry in the program group. Does the instant client create an entry as well?
Do I have do install the Oracle Net Services additionally to the Instant client?
In the releasenotes above from legatti they are talking about an TNS_ADMIN entry which has to point to the ora files?
Do I have to define this as systemparameter pointing to the C:\Instantclient\instantclient_10_2 directory as well.
Thanks a lot for every hint

  • Basically I am having 2 issues 1) CS5 no longer showing up on my account 2) Version is MAC but needing to install onto Windows soon as Mac is dying after 4 years

In 2010 I bought CS5 and feel like an idiot after spending a small fortune to get the software I always wanted I now find it unsupported, not listed on my account despite registering and such. My iMac is four years old and is dying as such will be replacing it with a new Windows PC soon, I am soon graduating from university, my wallet is essentially dry and feel cheated via the fact CS5.5 came out a while back and can't transfer my software from Mac to Windows without an additional cost which I can not afford. Basically as a games designer, ex-student and at a time where this is all critical I find out that CS5 is not supported and no longer on my account page. Very upset

    Download CS5 products
The rest is beside the point. Serial numbers always have been platform specific and swaps limited to current versions.

  • Printer shares not working since upgrade to samba 3.5.0 - SOLVED-ish

I share my printer with my wife's XP laptop and another linux box.  This has been the position for the past 2 years or so, without any problems at all.  Yesterday I did my first reboot for a couple of weeks, and the first, therefore, since samba / smbclient upgraded to 3.5.0.  I can no longer print from the XP or other linux boxes.  Samba logs the error as :

I have had similar issues at my office.......I had a hylafax server (also sharing a couple printers via samba) running on debian 5 (samba 3.2) and upgraded it to debian 6 (samba 3.5). and it was samba printer sharing hell after that. What would happen is I would get samba logs full of the same jibberish

I only post this here since I think it was more of a samba problem than a debian problem and we seem to be the only ppl out there talking about it......... the getpeername seemed to be the problem (to me anyway) and what would happen on our 25 or so XP home clients is that you would print but it wouldnt go ANYWHERE. Cups was not even recieving the jobs since samba was not passing the jobs to cups.
It seems to me that the XP machines were not finding the server by its hostname so I messed around with changing the clients to map the printer by ip address instead of by hostname and it helped "some" but it still had big time glitchyness.
the only conclusion I could come to in my mind is that this reminded me of back in the day when we had a win98se computer sharing a printer and the windows XP systems would hang for up to 2 min while trying to access the printer. The problem back then amounted to win XP not wanting to downstep to the older way of windows98's password encryption. So I started changing my smb.conf to allow guest on the printer, changed the mask to 777 and I even wrote up a whole new smb.conf from scratch to work on security = share no authentication, allow from everyone 777 etc etc.............STILL had problems.
So I ended up throwing together a new server from a spare machine and installing debian 5.0.3 (with samba 3.2.5) and swapping it out yesterday........now EVERYTHING works fine.
my educated guess here is that the new samba is probobly geared more towards vista & win7 than it is XP (since XP is a pretty old dog these days). I would loved to have worked this issue out but we just could not have the downtime any longer......so it looks like I am not going to be updating for a long time (which I now is not really the best policy) but it has to work.
I hope this helps.....trust me you are not the only ones having this problem.

  • Samba print$ share for windows "point and print"?!

    Howdy,
I used to have a print$ share set up, as described [in a post by Rich White|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5572602#5572602]
It worked wonderfully well, and all my windows users could get drivers directly off of the server. It was almost mac-like
I unwittingly bumped into the invisible shares (as far as the GUI admin tools are concerned) for netlogon and profiles, and that was annoying. But for the life of me, I can't seem to make a print$ share that actually shows up. It was painlessly easy - insanely easy in Tiger. Alls I had to do was create the shared folder named "print$" in the Workgroup Manager.
This doesn't work in Leopard. It looks like it works, but the share never shows up in /var/run/samba/shares. I tried writing one into /etc/smb.conf suspiciously similar to Rich White, and the best I got was nothing, and the worst were smb core dumps...
Does anyone know what gives in Leopard? I had hoped I could roll this out rather soonish.
    Thanks,
    Jeremy

Do you mean the PDF Printer? You can't just download it... It's a part of the Acrobat installation. You get access to it when you purchase and install Acrobat on your computer. It's not a part of the free Reader.

  • How to to make Cluster between two server 2012 Datacenter with share storage and Hyper-V role then install Exchange 2013 on each server datacenter then make DAG between Exchange servers

    Dears,
I have IBM Flex server with built in storage,
HOW to to make Cluster between two  server 2012 Datacenter with share storage and Hyper-V role then install Exchange 2013 on each server datacenter then make DAG between Exchange servers?
If there any prerequisites of the Share storage types ?and any configuration guide to deploy Cluster between two Server 2012 datacenter ?

Microsoft Failover Clusters require shared storage.  If you wish to create a failover cluster with local storage, you need to use third party software to mirror the disks and present it to the hosts (siog.com, datacore.com, starwind.com).  If you
use third party software, you will need to follow their instructions for configuring the environment.
Questions on how to configure Exchange environments are better asked in an Exchange forum.

  • Jobs stay in queue and keep printing until you cancel them--then stops the print spooler...why?

    My Printer: HP Photosmart C309a
    My  Laptop: HP G71 series
Operating System: Windows 7 (64 bit) but runs a lot of stuff on 32 bit
Problem: I print ONE copy of a multiple page document in Adobe Reader 9. I select even pages only (after which I would reinsert the pages and tell it to print odd pages only, to get the other side). The printer makes a sound indicating the job is finished, I remove my pages to collate them, and then the printer continues to print the job again without so much as a keystroke.
Naturally, you find the printer in the devices on the control panel, click "see what's printing" and highlight the job and cancel it.
Then somehow it turns off my print spooler.
I have tried everything suggested on other forums, like
    restart the laptop/restart the printer
going to c\windows\system32\spool\printers and deleting whatever is hung up in there (usually a shockwave file).
Going to Services\print spooler \properties and making sure the settings are set to automatic
    Uninstall\reinstall latest driver and software
Switching from Adobe Reader 10 to Adobe Reader 9
Use System Restore to try to reset the system to a previous state.
Run Trend Micro to check for viruses and spyware--nothing shows up.
I am positive the pdf doc is NOT the problem, because I can print it on my husband's laptop multiple times over with no problems.
Does anyone have this problem as well? Has anyone found a genuine solution other than manually canceling print jobs in queue and constantly restarting the print spooler?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

    Hi,
I believe your printer is wirelessly connected to your computer, right?!
What's the current printer software version installed in your laptop computer?!
to see: click start>control panel>uninstall a program under Programs then it will tell you the software version like HP Photosmart c309a v13 or v14.
If the software version is v13, click here to download and install the current software.
IF all things still fail, try to use the workaround provided by HP in this link. It says:
    Workaround
Your HP printing product can operate sufficiently using an alternate print driver, although there might be some limitations. For instance, some buttons on the product control panel might not function, but the product prints normally from the computer. If the solutions in this document do not solve the issue, download and install an alternate print driver.
Follow these steps to install the HP Deskjet 990C print driver.
NOTE:  These steps install the new print driver using the same port that the product already uses. The product functions normally with multiple drivers on the same port.
Find the port that the product already uses.
Click the Windows icon ( ), and then click Control Panel . The Control Panel opens in a new window.
    Click Hardware and Sounds .
Click Printers . The Printers folder opens.
Right-click the product icon ( ), and then click Properties . The Propertieswindow opens.
Click the Ports tab. A window opens with a list of ports. The port for the product has a checkmark or a highlight.
Note the name of the port indicated for the product.
Close the Properties window, and then continue with the next steps.
Click Add a Printer in the menu bar at the top of the Printers window. The Windows Add Printer Wizard opens.
Click Add a local printer .
Select Use an existing Port .
Click the drop-down menu next to Use an existing Port , and then select the port that you noted earlier in these steps.
    Click Next .
In the Manufacturer pane, click HP .
In the Printers pane, click HP Deskjet 990c , and then click Next . (IF YOU CANT FIND DESKJET 990C, JUST CLICK WINDOWS UPDATE WITHIN THIS WINDOW. THEN FIND DESKJET 990C and then click next)
Type a name for the new printer in the Printer name box, or keep the default name.
Select Set as the default printer , and then click Next . A window opens with a progress bar as the printer installs. Then a new window opens.
Click Do not share this printer , and then click Next .
If you want to print a test page, click the Print test page button.
Click Finish to complete the driver installation.
Try printing again, but select HP Deskjet 990c from the Print dialog box.
If this solves the issue, follow these steps to use the HP Deskjet 990c print driver whenever you send print jobs to the product.
In the program you are using, select the option to print. The Print dialog box opens.
Click the Name drop-down menu, and then select HP Deskjet 990c .
Change print settings as desired in the Paper size , Quality , and Paper type drop-down menus.
Select the Print range and Copies options as desired.
Click OK . The product prints the file.

  • Windows Printer Share-Worked... now its not

I have 7 computers, mac and PC that are all able to connect to a printer share except for 1 computer. The Lexmark T522 is connected via Serial to a Windows XP box that has standard printer sharing enabled. For months all the computers on the network could print fine to it fine. 2 days ago i installed the latest security update on our intel-imac... now it cannot connect to the printer.
Was there something in the latest security update that messed up printing to windows printer shares?
I go to printers and faxes, Add a printer(the other was deleted through my troubleshooting) I have to choose "more printers", and then have to choose our "workgroup (called workgroup)" I see the shared computers and select the one with the printer installed. I hit the "choose" button and get a request for username and password. I get after about 30 seconds "Unable to connect to server with provided username and password" "error 256" and an Okay button.
NOTE: i can connect via the same method with all the other macs here at our house (none of them have been updated with the latest security update yet though).

    Hey, man.
This started happening to me, too, right after I installed the latest security update. Suddenly I could no longer print to the Windows shared printer at work. Got the exact same error you got.
Thankfully, the printer happens to be wireless and ethernet enabled, so we were able to work around it. But after 4 hours of total troubleshooting, we haven't been able to figure out how to print to it as a shared printer.

  • C6380 is installed in Windows 7 64-bit but will not print

I recently bought a Pavillion dv-2210ev windows 7 64bit, and would like to wi-fi connect it to my c6380. It works well with my desktop (wirelessly also), and got the Solutions Center installed perfectly on the Pavillion. It scans as requested from the computer.
However, it won't print. I will send a document to the printer (c6300 series), but it doesn't even get to the print queue, and won't print on the tray. No error messages at all. Just silence. Only the pop-up window down right corner of HP saying that print job is starting.
I tried 2-3 reinstalls, tried to create a port myself (locally and then standard IP/TCP as suggested by some people here), even created some rules for the firewall which I found from the Network Diagnostic Program that's on hp.com. I tried the trick with the bidirectional support and it didn't work either.
Any ideas? This c6380 starts to hit my nerves, since it works only with the desktop, and not painlessly all the time.

Try to delete printer in Control Panel and re-add:
    1. Make sure the printer is turned on and connected to your network. Verify that you can access the printer's internal web page by browsing to its IP address before continuing.
    2. Click >> Start >> Control panel >> Printers.
    3. Click the Add a printer
    4. Select Local printer
    5. Select Create a new port and select Standard TCP/IP Port and click Next button.
    6. Under Device type, select TCP/IP Device. Under Hostname or IP address, enter the printer's host name (found on the printer's network configuration report the generated above). Click Next.
If you get a message about Additional Port Information Required, then the printer was not found using the host name. You can go back and retry or using the printer's IP address instead of the host name.
    7. Select Hewlett-Packard from the list of manufacturers and select and select your printer model. Click Next.
If your printer model was not listed, then select Have Disk, browse the HP CD that came with your printer and select the first file that starts with hp and ends with inf. Click Open then OK. Select your printer model. Click Next.
    8. If you are asked, use the currently installed driver.
    9. It will ask for the Printer name -- enter a new name or use the existing one. This will be the name of the printer that you select from other applications.
    10. You may be asked to share the printer. Make a choice and click Next.
    11. The Print Test Page box appears. Go ahead and print it.
    12. Click Finish.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

You will need a CUPS driver (not the HP-provided one) to print via Windows Printing. Find the CUPS driver info here:

Then download and install from here:
