Solaris 10 raid manager GUI?

Is there still some kind of GUI available to the LVM metatools included in Solaris 10?
I do recall using 'disktool' from the Solstice Disk Suite back on Solaris 8, where the whole raid features were still an expensive seperate product, but that doesn't seem to exist anymore.
Hand-editing md.tab and fiddling around with the various meta-commands gets a bit tedious when managing large storage environments.
I found that in Solstice this was the package SUNWmdg, which isn't present on my Solaris 9 or 10 install media or companion discs.

The SMC is included in my S10 installations as well.. wanted to try it out right now, but keeps complaining that the management server is not running.
Will have to dig around in the docs to find which service to enable.. has probably been killed by the jass hardening.
Doesn't seem to be any of the services named *-management, though.. got those all running.

  • RAID Management Software for TS130 (Windows Server 2008 R2)

Hello, I'm needing assistance locating RAID management software for the TS130 in Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard. In Device Manager, the drive has the following hardware ID: "IDE\DiskRAID11.0.00__".  Does anyone know of a utility to check and monitor the health of this RAID array from within Windows?

    Hi beau_goldkey,
Thank you for pointing out that we don't have the Intel RAID Management GUI software on the TS130 support page.  We'll work on getting that resolved.  In the meantime, the same software is used for the TS140 and can be found here.
    I apologize for the inconvenience!

I am currently running Solaris 9 operating environment, I would like to know if RAID Manager 6.22.1 supports Solaris 9.
When I search in SUN website, one page mentioned that RM 6.22.1 supports Solaris 9(http://www.sun.com/storage/disk-drives/raid.html) while the other page is different (http://www.sun.com/storage/software/raid_manager.html).
If anyone has RM 6.22.1 running on Solaris 9, please tell me. Thanks in advance.

    Yes it work fine.
Just make sure the firmware and patches are up-to date to avoid problems.

    any advice??
    Thanks.

    Hello,
the A1000 isn't supported under Solaris 10 (by Sun, under service contract, ...), but works.
Rainer Orth and Fredrik Lundholm posted instructions on comp.unix.solaris. This an except from the post
    Fredrik Lundholm < ... > wrote:
RDAC stands for Redundant Disk Array Controller Support, and is only
needed for path failover on RSM2000/A3000/A3500/A3500FC. Since A1000
only has a single controller it is not needed. rm6 talks to the A1000
through Lun 0.I had complained loudly during Solaris 10 Platinum Beta when I first
learned about removal of RM6/A1000 support in S10 FCS *without any
appropriate prior notice (i.e.: EOL notices) in S9 Release Notes*.
Unfortunately, this didn't help to bring the support back, but my support
engineer quickly determined that RM6 runs just fine with an A1000.
I later learned that the claimed reason for support removal was that the
A1000 itself had been EOLed before S10 went FCS.
Perhaps in some cases RM6 is looking for the RDAC paths in order to
determine where the modules are? So while the driver isn't technically
required it can still cause issues by its absence? The rdriver won't load in S10:

But since rdriver and rdnexus are only needed for RDAC (which doesn't do anything useful with the single-controller A1000), I just rem_drv'ed both and disabled RDAC support in /etc/osa/rmparams,
as I had already done in S8:

This way, an A1000 works just fine when connected to an E3000 with 4 x 167 MHz UltraSPARC I CPUs running Solaris Express Build 33, including arraymon and the RM6 GUI and CLI interfaces :-)
I'm actually using it for some ZFS testing, which works amazingly well, considering the old and slow hardware.
    Hope this helps.

The instructions worked for me. I did remove the two forceloads (rdriver, rdnexus) in /etc/system as well.
Sideeffect: These changes removed the long delay (about 5-10 minutes) during boot Solaris 9/Solaris 10 too.

  • Commandline for RAID manager

I have a Solaris 8 System that has a Sun A1000 attached to it. Every thing I read says to use the RAID manager to mange it. Because it was already installed before I came on the scene, I don't know any specifics.
This is a remote system therefore using the RAID manager 6 GUI isn't an option. Is there a commandline (or equivelent software)?

    Hello Leon,
please review the <b>Sun StorEdge RAID Manager 6.22 User's Guide</b> for a description of the commandline interface.

  • New to solaris---is update manager working correctly?

well as my subject says I am new to solaris having put it on an pc bout a week ago. as I am using the "free" verson (not open solaris) I knew I would not be entitled to certain goodies but seem to have run into an issue getting the updates I (presumably) am entitled to. simply put I open up the solaris application "update manager" which is on my desktop saying "updates available". now upon initially launching the app I specified that I was using the free version (well it let me register without a code so I assume sun knows my status), and then selected the option to put a check mark next to all available updates. well after waiting like a full day with it showing that is was still in the process up updating I eventually aborted the process. I then tried installing a couple of the updates and though it took a while it worked. so I selected 3 of 4 more and again the update manager showed that I was updating but nothing was happening (to my knowledge). after several hours I aborted the app again. so what am I doing wrong. first off I am assuming that what sun presents to me is what is actually available to me using the free unregistered version of solaris. why then would updates fail? btw I know some linux (not an expert) and I figured that behind the scenes update manager was checking for dependencies and installing what I needed from sun repos. but of course I could be way off bass here. so what gives? thanks much in advance.

first off I am assuming that what sun presents to me is what is actually available to me using the free unregistered version of solaris.No. Update Manager will show you everything but will only allow you to install basically security and a small subset of other patches.
When you ran through the Solaris registration GUI you had a chance to enter a support contract #. If you chose not to enter one or if you want to use it without registering then you only get access to a few of the patches.

  • RAID MANAGER for X86?

I am currently working on a project , in which I am connecting an x86 W1100Z Sun server, running Solaris 10, to an A1000 through using an LM320 Dual SCSI card.
The theory is to use SAMBA to share the A1000's file systems across a network consisting of Solaris and Windows hosts.
Despite the proper connection (and termination) of the A1000 to the SCSI card , I am unable to see the A1000 from the "format" command.
I am also unable to find a copy of RAID Manager 6.22.1 which will run on an x86 architecture.
Can someone please advise on how to proceed?
    Thanks.

    Thanks for the info.
I know that Sun doesn't support A1000 any more, and that it is old-school (plus isn't supported on Solaris 10). However, just 'cos it ain't supported, don't mean it doesn't work!!!!
I had the same A1000 hooked onto the same W1100Z, running Windows Server 2003 and it had no problems seeing it (as a JBOD rather than a RAID, but that's not really a problem once you set up the A1000 to manage itself).
I just find it very hard to believe that there would be a curcumstance where Windows could do something / support something that Solaris doesn't!!!!
I'll try hooking the A1000 onto one on my v880's and re-configuring it as RAID 5 using RM6.22.1, then attach it to the W1100Z and see what happens there.
Any more advice would still be appreciated.

  • Please need help with RAID Manager (+)

    Good day
Could someone give me advice is it possible to organize RAID-5 under Solaris 5.7?
I use SUN SPARC Enterprise 250 with four USCSI HDDs (Seagate 18Gb/10k).
One of the hardware requirments for RAID Manager is:
RAID modules with two A3x00 controllers.
I suppose if I use SCSI - A3x00 controllers are already there? Or I missed something and this should be shipped separately? Is there any way to check are there any A3x00 controllers in my system?
Thanks a lot and happy holidays!
    Regards,
    Roman

    Hi Roman,
The Raid Manager software is specifically for managing some of Sun's external storage arrays, namely the A1000, A3000 & A3500. Raid Manager will be of no use for the internal disks in the Ultra Enterprise 250. What you should be looking at is DiskSuite which is software based RAID that is supplied with Solaris 8. You will find great documentation for Disksuite installation and usage on http://docs.sun.com

  • Package Manager GUI permissions

I have a fresh install of Solaris 11, using LDAP to authenticate against a Windows 2008 R2 Active Directory server for login. This server is used for VNC desktop access for users, so I have all the desktop tools installed and working. I also have a second, bare-bones Solaris 11 server that is hosting the IPS repository. This is all working just peachy.
However, I seem to have a problem with the Package Manager GUI and LDAP users. I have an LDAP account I use for development and a separate, local account for doing admin stuff. I can install software with the Package Manager GUI using the admin account, but I can't seem to do this with my LDAP account. When i try and launch the GUI using the links on the desktop, I get nothing. If I try and use the "packagemanager" command from a terminal, I get an error pop-up that says "Could not operate on /var/pkg/lock because of insufficient permissions. Please try the command again as a privileged user." My LDAP account does have the "Software Installation" profile applied, and I can install packages using "pfexec" from a terminal, but I would really like to use the GUI (and let some of the other power users have access to install stuff too).
Oh and "pfexec packagemanager" does not work either (get a "Can't open display" error).
Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

Here is what I get when I run /'usr/lib/pm-launch /usr/bin/packagemanager'
    No protocol specified
    No protocol specified
/usr/lib/python2.6/vendor-packages/gtk-2.0/gtk/__init__.py:57: GtkWarning: could not open display
    warnings.warn(str(e), _gtk.Warning)
    No protocol specified
    No protocol specified/
    Unable to initialize gtk
    could not open display
No errors in .xsession-errors. Also, if I run just /usr/bin/packagemanager I get the GUI, but it gives me the permission error, so I can definitely bring up X apps.

  • Data Guard Manager GUI does not respond

    Hello,
I configured a standby datase environment using the Data Guard(9.0.1). Both, the primary and standby are 9.0.1
Few days ago, the standby crashed and i was getting an Ora-12500 error. To solve that error i had to recreate the oracle instance. After that, the primary established connection to the standby and shipped the logs which were applied by the stand. But when i connect to the Data Guard Manager GUI and click on my data guard configuration, the cursor shows up and keep running on the screen indicating that the DGMGUI is working on the background. I left DGMGUI running overnigth but it did not finished. I don't know what is the problem. Any hint ?
    Thanks a lot.
    Hardy.

You probably want to post this in the General Database forum.
    Thanks.

  • Are 'Select' and 'Refresh' supposed to be sticky in VM Manager GUI?

VM Manager 2.2 - very nice GUI - pretty intuitive and easy to find your way around. Congrats to the team that added this.
I did notice a couple of things:
The 'Select' radiobutton choices and 'Refresh in:' dropdown choices are not sticky in the VM Manager GUI.
Select a 2nd (anything but first) server and select '30 seconds' for 'refresh' on the Server Pools page (or any other page).
Move to a different page; e.g. 'Servers'
    Return to the original page.
The first radio button will be the one selected and not the one the user chose. Also, the 'refresh' setting will have been reset to 'Manually'.
Also the TimeStamp format for the Administration logs is different than the format for the server pool and server logs:
    Admin log: 2009.12.14 at 20:52:25 GMT+00:00
    Server log: 2009-12-14 12:27:19
    Server pool log: 2009-12-11 21:19:53
One possibility for the refresh is to always do a refresh on a page load. Then when you tab to a new page you know you are getting fresh info. Or make the refresh choice sticky and add a '10 second' and '20 second' choice.
