you are right... but generaly I use updatemenager and it seam to be OK, I check several time and no new patches are available with updatemanager. No errors. Generaly it works fine. I check again without updatemenager from command line and I see that there are several patches are not applied. Oh my God. I try to applied patches manualy and this works fine. After I try pca to apply all other missing patches.
Strange.
Now sapint works fine.

4.7 SAPINST fails on phase 5 of 14 - services do not exist

I am installing 4.7 on Win 2003 / sql 2005 and the install - sapinst - fails on Phase 5 of 14 with messages:
The specified service does exist as an installed service
for saposcol
and for sap<SID>_nn
This is a local install and java environment variable - SAPINST_JRE_HOME - has been set.
Any help much appreciated.

I think u forgot to set the environment variables for JAVA.
After installing java u have to set environment variables.
Right click on my computers->properties->advanced->environment variables
here u will get two variables user variable,system variable
Goto uservariable press new button
u will get a popup with two fields
variable name: JAVA_HOME u have type
variable value:u have to specify the jre path(in which drive u installed)

Solaris 10u6 fails to boot after installation on HP Proliant DL380 G4

I have used Solaris 10u5 without issues on the HP DL380 G4. However, when I tried to install update 6 (new installation), it fails to reboot. I starts to boot, then aborts and reboots the system. I added the arguments -av to help get more information. Here's what I was able to capture:

I have tried this on two identical machines with the same results. Some other details:
- Booting into failsafe mode works; the system finds and mounts the zfs volumes
- I did a network installation. I rebuilt the miniroot to include the CPQary3 package
- I tried installing with a zpool with two disks as well as only one disk; the result was the same
- I also tried installing without using a ZFS root disk; it also fails
I have googled for this problem but have not found anything like it. I would greatly appreciate any help!

I finally figured it out. For some reason, the installer does not install the driver package (CPQary3) or include it in the boot archive. The driver is in the fail-safe miniroot, however. So, I booted into fail-safe mode and installed the driver, and now everything works!
I ran into two problems with the installer on this hardware. I'll post details and work-arounds for both in a separate message.

Thanks to Hussein's great help I was able to make it work once but then I deinstalled it and now installing again from fresh but I can't get it to work , it keep failing with same error :

Running Database Install Driver for VIS instance
I am installing as oracle and choose oracle:dba as database owner and applmgr:dba as apps owner.
I made sure the permissions on oraInventory directory is 777 , also on the /var/tmp/.oracle . I checked every step in preinstall document for validity and they all pass.
even though its complaining about control file but i can start the database in mount state , although it crashes if i try to open.

You can use the same stage area directory as long as nothing changed on this directory.
I am installing as oracle and choose oracle:dba as database owner and applmgr:dba as apps owner.
You need to run the installer as root user.

Please clean your previous installation, reboot the server and start the installer again as root user.

Install of Oracle 8.1.7. on Solaris 8 fails

Hi All!
I am doing an install of Oracle 8.1.7. Right near the end of the install when oracle is trying to link it's libraries, I get a message that /oracle/product/8.1.7./rdbms/lib/ins_rdbms.mk failed. I continue with the install and try to run make on this file by hand. I get:
make: Fatal error: Don't know how to make '/oracle/product/8.1.7./rdbms/lib/libskgxpd.a(/oracle/product/8.1.7./rdbms/lib/skgxpd.o)'
I did a search on Google and the only references to skgxpd.o where for the SuSE Linux Oracle, although the error is identical. Unfortunately, no solution has been offered.
One person I talked to said to make sure LD_LIBRARY_PATH included /oracle/product/8.1.7./rdbms/lib/. However, that didn't help.

Because the path of /oracle/product/8.1.7./rdbms/lib/ depends on the location of ORACLE_HOME you set, it doesn't sound like a pre-installation setting. It's not mentioned in the manual anyway.
You may want to check to see if the following commands are on the installation user (oracle)'s PATH.
$ /usr/bin/which make
$ /usr/bin/which ar
$ /usr/bin/which ld
$ /usr/bin/which nm
Also it's mentioned in the manual:
===============================================================
Note: If you require /usr/ucb in your search path, make sure it
comes after /usr/ccs/bin in the PATH setting.
===============================================================
I set up a 8.1.7 on Solaris 8 but didn't have such a problem.

Installation of Solaris 10 fails on Desktop

Hi All,
I just downloaded the DVD iso image for Solaris 10 for the intel desktop and tried installing.
On my first attempt it was complaining about insufficient size to load module, but I later realised that the installation was corrupt so I re-downloaded and
verified chksum.
This time, the installation went through and went to the last stage where it rebooted, then I removed the DVD and it tried to boot from the Harddisk and comes up with the
boot screen having 2 options - Solaris 10 ........ & Solaris failsafe. I let the default option go through...
On that it fails with the following message:
boot: cannot find /misc/amd64/krtld
boot: error loading interpreter (misc/amd64/krtld)
Elf64 read error.
panic: no entry point in kernel/amd64/unix
Press any key to reboot
I'm not sure what went wrong, I just did the full installs + OEM and removed only the PostgreSQL as I didn't want that application.
Following are my system specs -
Intel Q6600
Gigabyte GA-X38-DQ6 - intel X38 board
4GB (2x2GB) + 2GB(1x2GB) = 6GB of Corsair RAM
Gigabyte nVidia 8800GTX Video card
Asus DVD drive
160GB harddrive
During the install I setup the HDD as
/ -40GB
swap - 4GB
/opt - 80GB
/export/home - 20GB
Would appreciate any help...

Solved this issue....
I reinstalled and changed the following - not sure which fixed the issue -
The install which I did was Localised to Australia and had also applied Australian posix, I changed to English posix in new install.
I have a 160GB drive, on the disk screen Solaris install shows total disk size 156117M and assigned is 156118 which is 1M more than available.
Not sure how this happened, but it's the default screen which comes up on install, I change the values and then defined the drive structure before install.
Works now.

Applied all the patches recommended for Solaris8 per installation doc.
Installed iPlanet WebServer ( Enterprise ) 6.0SP4

Really I have the same problem with iAS6 SP4 under Solari 2.6.
I've got:

and thank you for the hint! I am sorry, I forgot to post the solution we found to the problem. It was a mistake during the installation process, in which a passphrase with various words, instead of a password was entered. Therefore the DSAME component could not bind succesfully to the Directory Server (err=49). It is now running without problems.

Sapinst fails to run

After prepeareing linux (RHEL4) for installation as per Install guides and sap notes I ran sapinst. First it failed because of missing libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3. In sap notes I found that it should be linked to existing lib. After that it started but soon it crashed as following:
[root@beosap10 LINUX_32]# ./sapinst

Solaris 10 fails to install

Trying to install Solaris 10 (Latest release) on an Enterprise 4500. The install fails. The installation starts, then in lower console window, it says exitsing install and opens a terminal session. Doesn't say why it exited, just quits. Any ideas?

I'm still downloading b69 sparc, so can't say it is the release.
But have seen this before with X86 releases.
Assume this happens installing the first CD.
Does Upper left screen reports a complete installation ?
Did you see something like segmentation fault after this ?
Does the system boot in text mode, after this braek ?

I am trying to install the eval version of WL 6.1SP2 for Solaris, but the installation
fails at the get go with this message:

Strange. I just tried this myself on solaris with no problems. Make sure you are
downloading in binary mode. If you are then I suggest you open a case with support. If
nothing else they can probably provide you with an ftp download.

The Solaris IDE/ATAPI kernel module has problems accessing
your ATAPI CD/DVD device.
Solaris 10 x86 currently has DMA disabled for ATAPI CD/DVD
devices. Maybe it works better if you enable DMA on the CD/DVD?
Try to change the "atapi-cd-dma-enabled" property to "1", on the
last DCA "select boot device" screen, in the edit properties submenu.
You probably have to press the "ESC" key to interrupt the cdrom
autoboot, to enter the DCA.

Solaris 10 fails to install on Compaq ML370

I would like to install Solaris10 on Compaq ProLiant ML370. I've configured the machine to expect UNIX - Solaris. I see on Compaq's web that Solaris 2.6, 2.7 and 8 are supported.
Unfortunatelly, when I boot from installation DVD the setup crashes with this error:

Hello All,
This issue has been addressed by setting OS to 'other' (not Solaris).
I've used smartstart cd and removed all server's configuration. Then, I've set the server for Solaris installation (The Solaris 2.6 up to 8 are supported). The bad trap error did show up again. However, when I changed the OS to 'other', I was able to start the installation process successfully.

Staroffice 8 Solaris install fails

Trying to install Staroffice 8 on Solaris 8, MU2, the install hangs at
"Installing Adabas Database".
I thought I read that SO no longer used Adabas, but had some new DB module.
BTW, why do all the forums here say "Staroffice 6.0"? Am I in the wrong place for newer SO versions? I can't find any other place.

No real answer, but have you got all the patches which are required for Solaris 8 and StarOffice.
One think you can try is to add the packages by hand "pkgadd" and not use the installer. This may get you some more information.
