Solaris 10: SMA + mdmonitor

Hello all!
I have a Solaris 10 system with software raid and SMA conifigured to send traps to a snmp manager.
I want to monitor for any errors, change of state of the raid elements. As far as i have read at the LVM manual only snmpdx can be supported through the mdmonitor. I wonder if there is a way to make it work with SMA(net-snmp). I have looked everywhere but i cant find anything related.
Please help!
Regards

The package formats are not the same between these both release of Solaris. You can still trying to extract the files and then install it in your Solaris 10 machine but this is highly unrecommended and of course unsupported. And I'm not sure that it will work.

We are using AgentX protocol in an application sub-agent
According to Net-SNMP change log, AgentX protocol support was experimental up to release 5.0.7 but going to the following link:
    http://net-snmp.sourceforge.net/tutorial/tutorial-5/toolkit/demon/index.html
"The AgentX support in net-snmp versions prior to 5.1 is beta level quality. Although many people have used it successfully, we strongly recommend AgentX sub-agent developers use 5.1.2 or higher."

    Hello.
I would also like to know how to upgrade the version of net-snmp that the System Management Agent uses so that I can monitor servers with more than one CPU.
    Any guidance much appreciated.

  • Solaris 10 SMA is dumping core. Have you installed net-snmp?

It's only happening on afew of the many sparc Solaris 10 servers I support. Oracle no longer supports SMA and has suggested downloading and installing "publicly available 'net-snmp' software". I'm reluctant to download and install open source; the review and approval process in my environment is onerous.
Since net-snmp is bundled with Solaris 11, I'm wondering if it is possible to install Solaris 11 packages on a Solaris 10 server (and net-snmp in particular). If so, perhaps someone can provide tips?

Noticed this a few weeks ago. When I do a discovery of a Sun server running the Net-SNMP SMA that is a zone, I can see the network interfaces:

This happens consistently across all zones we have running. We can monitor traffic for a zone via the hwardware node SNMP daemon, but certainly seems like we should be able to also monitor network interface utilization via SNMP from any zone as well.
Has anyone encountered this / know of a fix or workaround for this? We have a valid Sun support contract but they unfortunately have been REALLY BAD about answering questions related to the SMA Net-SNMP agent thus far.

Why are you trying to run an old obsolete pre-release version of Solaris 10?
I'd suggest that you install the final released product.

  • Run SMA on solaris 9

    Hellow,
I need deploy a new subagent for my aplication to run in solaris 9. This new subagent need suport the SNMPv2.
I now that I can't use the SEA, because it only use the SNMPv1.
I now that SMA suport the SNMPv1, v2 and v3. but SMA can be install in Solaris 9?
If Yes, I can put this SMA as master agent, for report sun solaris OS errors (get/traps), and create my sub agent for report error (get/traps) of my aplication?
    tanks for all...

    Hi All
I have setup my app to run on WL8.1 + solaris 9 env. JVM was configured
    to use
3G RAM and there are still abundant RAM on the HW server. I tried out
    a use case,
it took long time to get response (~ 2 minutes). But the CPU utilization
    has been
always lower 20%. I have tried out the same test case on a wintel server
    with
500 RAM allocated to JVM, the response time is much quicker (less than
    30 sec).
I did the same on solaris 8 with 3G RAM and had used alternate threads
    library
mode (changing LD_LIBRARY_PATH to include /usr/lib/lwp) which is the
    default mode
adopted by solaris 9. The same use case responded much quicker and comparable
to abovementioned test on wintel. Can anybody advice on how to tuneWL
    8.1 on
solaris 9 so as to make it perform best ? Is there any special trick
thank u very much for any advice in advance

There could be many factors that add to performance degradation, database, OS,
Network, app config etc, so without knowing too much its difficult to tell.
Can you please supply the startup JAVA options used to set the heap etc. Having
larger heao sizes is not always the best approach of building HA applications...the
bigger they are, the bigger they fall. I'd suggest using many but smaller instances.
Provide the heap info from NT also.
BTW, when weblogic starts, can you tell me how much memory is being used in the
console...ie the footprint of weblogic + your application.
    Many Thanks

  • Solaris 11 - after installation there is no remote desktop avaliable

    Hi All,
I have the problem that after installation of Solaris Express on SPARC machine there is no available remote desktop. I am using Xmanager to connect to my server.
It works fine with Solaris 9 and 10.
Do you know what is the problem?

  • Solaris 10 x86 HP ProLiant Insight Management Agents

    HI,
I've posted this on HP's forums too but as I'm a sun person I thought I'd ask here if anyone has managed to get this HP stuff to work.
I'm trying to get the agent for Solaris to run but I can't get it to start. I have installed the following packages
    HPQhealth-2.0.1-solaris10-i386.tar
    HPQilo-1.2.0-solaris10-i386.pkg
    HPQhma-3.0.0-solaris10-i386.pkg
But I can't get any of them to start I get the following in the messages file :-

    Just a repost
    Hi,
I guess you checked the requirements in the pdfs before installation.
The problem you show in your log is only related either to HPQhealth or HPQhma. Is the ILO svc starting ?
Did you install the package in the correct order?
    1) HPQhealth
    2) enable hpasmd
    3) HPQhma
    4) enable all hm* agents
    5) check the snmp agent issue if running 64 bits Solaris
Did you install the HPQsmh package?

  • SNMP traps from Solaris 10

    Hi,
I'm trying very hard to set up a Sun Fire V245 to send SNMP traps when certain hardware or software related events occur. I've been looking at sma_snmp (net-snmp) and the Fault Management Daemon (SUNWfmd) but they seem to be very limited in their capabilities. I have manged to get some traps sent for filesystem fill-ups and high load averages but that is about it.
Most of all I would like the system to send traps when there is a HW failure such as a faulty FRU or if there are disk failures.
If anyone can point me to some documentation about this, I would be most grateful.
    /Mikael

    Mikael,
I struggled through the same thing with a Netra 240 recently. The Sun docs are garbage when it comes to this. I opened a ticket with Sun and after 3 days and 6 hours on the phone I finally got hold of someone who knew how to spell SNMP. Yes, it was that bad!
Here's the scoop. In Solaris 10 you run Net-SNMP, a.k.a. SMA, snmpd. The old snmpdx is obsoleted and you shouldn't configure it at all.
Now to get the hardware related traps for the Sunfire and Netra series servers... (what you are really looking for).
You have to load and configure an additional SNMP daemon for the hardware specific traps.
(The first doc is rather old, the last one 819-7978-12 is pretty new and is somewhat more relevant.)
Sun SNMP Management Agent for Sun Fire and Netra Systems: Sun Doc number 817-2559-13
Sun SNMP Management Agent Addendum for the Netra 240 Server: Sun Doc Number 817-6238-10
Sun SNMP Management Agent Administration Guide for Sun Blade /Sun Fire/Sun SPARC Enterprise/Netra Servers: Sun Doc Number 819-7978-12
And finally the SMA/net-snmp/snmpd guide for the standard Solaris related traps:
Solaris System Management Agent Administration Guide: Sun Doc Number 817300011
There are problems with all of the above documents. None of the Netra/Sunfire docs specifically talk about Solaris 10 so read them with caution. They also talk about configuring and running snmpdx and never reference SMA/net-snmp. This is odd because the instructions I got from Sun (finally) were not to run snmpdx, only to run sma/snmpd and additionally run the sunfire/netra snmpd agent.
The SMA document (817-3000-11) has an undocumented bug, which Sun knows about and is working on but will not reveal to the public. In the section titled "Migration From the Sun Fire Management Agent" it references using a script called masfcnv to convert the sunfire/netra specific snmp config and daemon to work with and through SMA. Since they all use the same ports (161/162) there is some conflict and the masfcnv is script is meant to resolve this by making sma/snmpd a proxy agent to requests toward the sunfire/netra specific hardware daemon.
The problem is the masfcnv script doesn't work properly. In fact, if you run the script you will destroy your other snmp configurations and may have to uninstall and reinstall the packages to clean everything up. This script hasn't ever worked and Sun is working on a fix but they neglect to mention this in the document which is IMO gross negligence and is a reflection of Sun's overall state of affairs (but that's another ranting thread).
So what you must do is configure SMA/net-snmp (or whatever you want to call it), and also configure the sunfire/netra specific snmp (after downloading and installing that package).
Since traps are sent to the remote trapsink using destination port 162, both net-snmp and the netra specific snmp daemons can co-exist here (port 162 is not an open listening port on the machine).
Port 161 is used for receiving SNMP Get requests and can only be bound to one daemon at a time. So either it is used by net-snmp or the netra snmp daemon, but not both. Since my boxes have not been fully integrated still I can't figure out which daemon 161 is bound to. At any rate, in my application the customer is only interested in receiving traps so the outcome here isn't that important.
I realize this isn't complete but I'm no expert here and haven't worked through all the test scenarios on a fully configured system. Hopefully though this will help clear some of the confusion propogated through Sun's stupid documents. Good luck!
    /Frank

Installation of patch set complete. PLEASE REBOOT THE SYSTEM.
when i tried to reboot the system by init 6 the service iscsi hanged and produced syslog errors about a unkown iocall -> killed the process. System rebooted w/o errors.
Does anyone have got an idea how to find out which patch or whatever do produce these errors?

    Hi,
I'm having the same issue of diskmon core dumps after upgrading grid and database from 11.2.0.1 to 11.2.0.2 on Solaris 10 x86-64. Following this thread, I'm trying to deinstall the Oracle 11.2.0.1 grid home.
I answered the following questions asked by the grid deinstall tool:
    1. ASM configuration was not detected in this Oracle home. Was ASM configured in this Oracle home (y|n): y
    2. Specify the ASM Diagnostic Destination: /db01/app/oracle/diag/asm/+ASM
    3. Specify the diskgroups that are managed by this ASM instance: DATA FRA
    4. De-configuring ASM will drop all the diskgroups at cleanup time. Do you want deconfig tool to drop the diskgroups:
If I answer no to question 1, the tool exits with error.
How do I answer question #4? (confused about this question of dropping diskgroups, it's already been upgraded)
Deinstall of Oracle db Home 11.2.0.1 was successful.
The +ASM instance has been upgraded and is running fine under 11.2.0.2 except for the excessive diskmon core dumps.
    Thanks,
    Lisa

  • SNMP on Solaris 10

    Hi Experts,
Ive got a T1000 server installed with Sun SNMP Management Agent for Sun Fire and Netra and SMA. The client has requested to generate some not harmful test traps from the server. I tried this by unplugging an ethernet interface or by unplugging one of the redundant power supplies hoping to see traps containing detailed information about these events. But all i got on my node manager (HP Open View) was traps like these:
Indicates that attribute identified by sunPlatNotificationChangedOID
has changed from the value in sunPlatNotificationOldInteger to the value in sunPlatNotificationNewInteger.
    This is as defined in X.721, sec. 13.1.3\%X07D8060B0A3213002D0500\{ 1 3 6 1 2 1 47 1 1 1 1 2 29 }\""\{ 1 3 6 1 4 1 42 2 70 101 1 1 12 1 2 29 }\2\1
I also tried monitoring the traps by using the command snmptrapd -P. Also got the traps but still with no detailed information about the events.
As you can see there is no detailed info about the generated events.
Am i missing something or its just that simple as the product works like this?
Maybe there are some others not harmful traps for the server with detailed information that i can test?
    Thanks in advance.

I could use some help with this as well ... so far I have been unable to find a clear and concise document that can walk me through configurin gSNMP. Clean Solaris 10 installation, snmpdx is running - now how do I configure it? Better yet, how do I disable snmpdx and run net-snmp?
Please, someone help or at least paste a link to an article somewhere...

  • How to get real time date from Sunny Boy Inverters through SMA Webbox?

    Hello,
I was looking on how to communicate with three Sunny Boy Inverters that are linked to a SMA webbox. Currently we get a daily summary of the solar production, but we would like to have real time data uploaded into LabVIEW. The people of SMA said that I needed to use "RS485 protocols" with a software they have called YASDI (http://www.sma.de/en/products/software/yasdi.html); however, I keep finding other information that says that I can communicate with my inverters using the SMA OPC server (http://www.sma-america.com/en_US/products/software/sma-opc-server.html). I also found this forum, http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/Sunny-Island/m-p/809129/highlight/true#M368718, where I understood that I don't need to use the OPC server, but instead I can use UDP communication to get the data. I found another forum that talks about using the YASDI :http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/help-with-Sunny-Boy-inverter/m-p/293273/highlight/true#M153892.
I've tried to communicate with the people of the forums and I haven't gotten any responses; therefore, I wanted to see if I can get cleared up on this issue. Do I need to use OPC server to communicate with my inverters through the webbox or can I just use UDP in LabVIEW?
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
    Thanks
    Jose

    Hello,
I got a response from Vincezo: http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/Sunny-Island/m-p/1794786. I'm currently working with the VI to communicate with the webbox through UDP. Since the PRC protocols to communicate with the webbox are in JavaScript Object Notation (JSON), I'm not sure if the data-in string has to be in JSON format. However, the only error I'm getting is 56 in the UDP read function. I've tried increasing the size of the bytes and timeout, but I keep getting this error. If anyone can help me with this part I would very grateful.
    Thanks,
    Jose

  • SMA omvormer software.

We begrijpen u frustratie hierin.
    Graag jullie visie/ervaringen!

The package formats are not the same between these both release of Solaris. You can still trying to extract the files and then install it in your Solaris 10 machine but this is highly unrecommended and of course unsupported. And I'm not sure that it will work.

  • Logical interface in solaris 10

    Hi there,
I need to configure logical interface in a solaris 10 3/05 server. After reading the Solaris 10 IP services manual, I am not quite sure what to do. All the examples and explanation are about using the new subcommand addif of ifconfig. It was not clear in the documentation if the setting logical interfaces via addif will persist across boot.
Can one still configure logical interface in Solaris 10 in a more traditional way like in Solaris 8? In an Solaris 8 server I will do the following.
Let's assume I want to configure in a solaris 8 server a logical interface named hme0:1 with IP address 192.168.20.28 with netmask 255.255.255.0 for hostname host001
    # cat /etc/hostname.hme0:1
    host001
    ^D
    # echo "192.168.20.28 host001" >> /etc/inet/hosts
    # echo "192.168.20.0 255.255.255.0" >> /etc/inet/netmasks
    # reboot -- -r
Can one still do that in solaris 10 3/05 server?

You don't need to reboot (you can run ifconfig for this boot and let the files do the work next time) and the -r doesn't do anything with interfaces (expecially virtual interfaces) anyway.
