Piotr

after installing sol 10_72 su worked.
then i needed to re-install the directory server. from that moment on i had exactly the same problem as you have.
if i configure the runtime library env like this:
crle -c /var/ld/ld.config -l /lib:/usr/lib:/usr/lib/mps
(using the paths ldd shows),
su works again

  • Solaris 10 svc:/milestone/single-user timeout during patch run

    Hello all,
    when doing a patch run (Oct 07 baseline) on a Solaris 10 client the machine rebooted into single user as per normal. However the time for the patches to be applied in single user took so long the single-user milestone timed out and the machine went into maintenance mode. The machine did continue to complete the rest of the patch run. Anyone else seen this and have a work around? I don't really want to blanket increase the service timeout. Hi, yes I see it all the time and it's normal and in fact documented in the release notes:
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-0428/6nc5u3kou?l=en&a=view#smftimeout
    One workaround is to ignore it and not do anything! In fact I think that is the preferred workaround.
    Another question, just out of curiosity, what does your "postpatch" Post action script do? Just wondering if it might be something useful for other sites too?

  • Applying Solaris Patches that Require Single User Mode

    Some OS patches require single user mode and reboot. Does the standard Solaris plugin patch management handle this? If not, could I write my own patch component and simply add "init 1; patchadd; init 6" to the execnative?
    Thanks - Jay

    I can't speak about the Solaris plugin, unfortunately, but a single execnative call wouldn't cover what you're trying to accomplish. There's an RFE for the core SPS system to add this capability, but I don't know that it will be added soon. Remember that when you switch runlevels, a number of start and stop scripts are invoked, shutting down and starting up a number of services. To do what you want to do, you'd have to have a start script for the RA in runlevel 1. You'd also have to have a way for the RA to execute a command on startup which isn't possible today. There'd have to be a way for the MS to deposit a command for the RA to execute, restart the RA in runlevel 1, the RA would have to read the command on startup and execute it, then restart the RA to runlevel 3 (or 6, whatever is your default or previous runlevel). It's all doable, to be sure, but not with changes to the core product.

  • How to mount USB & CDROM drives from single user mode - Solaris boot disk?

    Hi All,
    I need to carry out ufsrestore on a single newly replaced system disk (no redundancy / mirroring) from either USB or CDROM drives from the following steps:
    ( i ) GRUB => e, e, cdrom –s, Enter, b (boot from Solaris 10 x86 media).
    ( ii ) Choose menu 1 for Install Solaris Interactive Mode to reach single user mode.Below are the commands that I have tried in single user mode without success:
    mount –r –F pcfs /dev/dsk/c1t0d0p0 /cdrom (after unmount Solaris CD)
      mount: /dev/dsk/c1t0d0p0 is not a DOS filesystem.
    svcadm –v enable smserver
      svcadm: Pattern ‘smserver’ doesn’t match any instances
    svcadm enable autofs
      svcadm: Pattern ‘autofs’ doesn’t match any instances
    devfsadm
      devfsadm: mkdir failed for /dev 0s1ed: Read-only file system
    mkdir /mnt
      mkdir: Failed to make directory “/mnt”; Read-only file systemPart of the problem is due to the current READ ONLY filesystems which does not allow the creation of mount point such as /mnt.
    I have been able to create both / root (/dev/dsk/c1t0d0s0) and /export/home (/dev/dsk/c1t0d0s0) filesystems with newfs that are awaiting for restore using ufsrestore.
    The only option I am left with is to attach a secondary disk to install Solaris 10 on either of them before bring the system to multi-user mode so that service such as volmgt, autofs, volfs are available to access USB & CDROM drives.
    Any suggestion on how to resolve this issue?
    Many thanks,
    Jack

    Hi JKGN,
    Is the directory a located under the root filesystem. ie /a? Are there any other mount point for say USB drive as well? I am not in a position to try it out right now but will get back
    to you soon on whether /a exist or not.
    Btw, the last thing I managed to do on this system at the time was added a secondary 1TB internal disk with the intention to restore both / and /export/home data onto this disk while
    making use of all the disk device management services such as the following services only available in a fully installed Solaris system (both single & multi-user modes) installed on the
    primary disk:
    # svcs smserver

    As a result, I am left with no option but the need to rebuild this system with only a single primary disk while in single user mode. However, the single user mode that I am in is the
    one from Solaris installation disk with restrictive (_cannot create folder for mount point or running disk management utilities_) capability such as those services just covered, compared to one from a completed Solaris installation system with full access to all filesystems and utilities / commands in general.
    I would very much value your assistance on how to mount both CD & USB in this restrictive limited Read Only OS (assume that it is running from memory) in order to get complete access to
    the blank primary disk so that full restore with ufsrestore could take place.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jack

  • Impossible to update Solaris 10

    Hi,
    I have difficulties to update Solaris.
    When using the update manager, I get an error popup, but with a blank message .. not very easy to determine the problem ... and nothing logged in dmesg.
    When I try smpatch update, or smpatch analyze, I get an error message: "Failure: Response code was 500"
    And in dmesg I have the following

    You may be interested to know that there is a forum specifically for problems with smpatch, updatemanager and the Sun UC Proxy (aka LPS) - [Administration Tools - Sun Update Connection-System / Hosted, Patch Manager & PatchPro Forum|http://forums.sun.com/forum.jspa?forumID=871]
    This problem is being tracked in Bug ID: #6771432
    It affects Java 6 Update 10, 11, and 12. The fix should be released in Update 14, in the mean time you can use the workaround from the bug:
    Edit the following lines:
    /usr/sbin/pprosvc: JAVACMD="/usr/jdk/latest/bin/java -version:1.5+"
    /usr/bin/updatemanager: JAVA_EXEC="/usr/jdk/latest/bin/java -version:1.5+"And change them to:
    /usr/sbin/pprosvc: JAVACMD="/usr/jdk/latest/bin/java -version:1.5*"
    /usr/bin/updatemanager: JAVA_EXEC="/usr/jdk/latest/bin/java -version:1.5*"The difference between the commands is that the '+' means any version of Java that is equal to or greater than 1.5, the '*' means it must be Java 1.5 but it will accept any minor version.
    As far as we are aware this has not been seen with any version of Java 5 (1.5.0_xx)

  • Auto login in Solaris 10

    Hi all
    I'm trying to establish auto login in Solaris 10, as a regular user or root. This is a personal testing machine, so security is not an issue.
    I want to automatically login preferably in the shell mode, ( no GUI if it's possible ), otherwise I can login with GUI, no biggie.
    From what I've found, it does not seem an easy job, given that my Solaris experience is somewhat limited, ( been working more on Linux ).
    If I can get that going, I'd prefer to run a few scripts upon login, which I think I can do it.
    So what steps must I go through to have auto login upon boot ? How hard is it ?
    Appreciate any comments. Thanks
    PS. Reposted, because I submitted my query in the wrong forum.
    Add the line below, to */etc/inittab* file.

    What do you mean by auto login?
    Do you want to implement Integrated windows authentication in OIM Design console. If yes, then I don't think it's possible.
    Post your requirement here so that ppl can help you out.

  • User is not able to change his own password... Only DBA can change users password ??

    Hi,
    I have this problem today.I am using Oracle 8.1.7 on Solaris 2.8
    A Oracle user say " SCOTT" trying to change his password but could not.. he gets the followling message
    SQL> alter user scott identified by abc123;
    alter user scott identified by abc123
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-28003: password verification for the specified password failed
    Scott's profile has password_verfiy function. Hence i thought abc123 password was not matching with the password verify condition. Surprisingly, what ever password SCOTT tries with, he could get the same error message and could not change his password.. Ultimatly SCOTT could never change his password. How is it possible ??
    It is noteworthy to mention that if i give DBA role to SOCTT then he can change his password with abc123 or any thing that satisfies with password verification function.
    Now Only a user who has DBA role or a DBA could change passwords..
    Can somebody through some light on it and explain what corrective action to be taken so that Users can change their password without DBA's interreption.
    Thanks in advance
    Regards
    Srini

    <PRE>
    This is the description of the error message:
    =============================================================================
    ORA-28003 password verification for the specified password failed
    Cause: The new password did not meet the necessary complexity specifications
    and the PASSWORD_VERIFY_FUNCTION failed.
    Action: Enter a different password. Contact the database administrator to find
    out the rules for choosing the new password.
    =============================================================================
    it clearly says that password has to match the complexity specifications. You will not be able
    to change password without meeting the complexity requirements.
    DBA's can make the change to the password because if DBA's can not change the password, it could lock
    you out of the database (all users including the DBA's) and you will not be able to access the
    database.
    Try removing the password verify function and see if you can then change the password succssfully.
    </PRE>
    hi Prakash,
    The verify password function is standard oracle function and I do not think the current problem is any way related to the rules that were framed in verify password function. The key point here is a user could not change his own password. But a DBA or a user who has ALTER USER system privs.. can do so..

    ZFS has not yet been integrated into Solaris 10...
    At this time you need either the "Software Express for Solaris 2/06"
    ( http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/solaris-express/ ) or the
    "Solaris Express: Community Release"
    ( http://www.opensolaris.org/os/downloads/on/ ) to play with ZFS.

  • WLS 8.1.5  console doesn't show ActiveDirectory (or custom) Users/Groups

    We currently have numerous apps running on a weblogic 8.1.4 portal domain. I am attempting to replicate this domain on 8.1.5. There are four authenticators on our old domain: a DefaultAuthenticator, an ActiveDirectoryAuthenticator, and two Custom Authenticators (based on the sample database authenticator), with JAAS flags set to OPTIONAL for all. Everything was working properly under sp4, including user/group/membership listings in console and authentication. Under sp5, while simple authentication seems to work with all providers, the user/group/membership listings in weblogic console have bad HTML (empty rows under any default authenticator users/groups). The active directory settings were migrated wholesale and I verified that authentication works against this provider. Just no usernames or groupnames. I tested with just ActiveDirectory and DefaultAuthenticator, DefaultIdentityAsserter.
    <p>
    I was able to debug a bit more using our custom authenticators. I have verified that the user and group lists are being requested and returned properly when you click on Manage Users or Manage Groups in weblogic 8.1.5 console. It just seems like somewhere in the console there is a problem and the HTML output is garbled. Here is a sample of my debug text, the method names and classes should be immediately familiar from the sample authenticator:
