Solaris 10 u3 11/06 x86 #### 07/07 patch set
Hello all
Just installed Oracle clusterware on solaris 10 x86 everything was working fine until i rebooted, now when i run crs_stat -t i receive the error
CRS-0184: Cannot communicate with the CRS daemon.
Ive noticed that in the /tmp directory i receive the following messages in files called
-rw-r--r-- 1 oracle oinstall 194 Aug 23 00:37 crsctl.11891
-rw-r--r-- 1 oracle oinstall 194 Aug 23 00:37 crsctl.11894
-rw-r--r-- 1 oracle oinstall 194 Aug 23 00:37 crsctl.11897
Failure at SlfAccess(/oracle_cluster/oracle/product/10.2.0/crs/css) with code -1
Internal Error Information:
Category: -3
Operation: access failed
Location: SlfAccess
Other:
Dep: 13
Can anybody advise what this is?
Franky,
I have seen this in the past. This has definitely to do something with the permissions - wherein oracle doesn't have the write permissions on some directory under $CRS_HOME/ especially $CRS_HOME/css. Please check the log file $CRS_HOME/log/<hostname>/cssd/ocssd.log file to it is points to a specific directory, if not most likely it may be something wrong with $CRS_HOME/css....please check. Oracle should have write permissions.
Thanks
Chandra

Will I experience any problems connecting a Trusted Solaris 8 X86 systems to a SPARC Trusted 8 system? Will all the trusted features work between the two.
ThxI am using Java 5.0 to develop applets, but if I use
all the possibilities that 5.0 version offers (such
as enum) that means that clients viewing my applet
must have JRE 5.0 as well. Does that mean a very
recent browser will be required?no.
I found which browsers support Java 5.0 on the page
J2SE 5.0 "Supported System Configurations" at
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/system-configurations.h
tml
In short, what I take from there is that browsers
required would be:
- Mozilla 1.4+
- Internet Explorer 5.5 (SP2+), 6.x on Windows
platforms
- Netscape 4.7.x on Solaris 8 on SPARC and x86
- Netscape 7 and 7.1 are not offically supported, but
should work
I have no idea how recent these versions are and
whether it is acceptable to assume that web visitors
will have these versions. I'd think it is almost safe to assume people have those, they're not that young. the question is rather "do they have the JRE 1.5.0?" -
License for cross-compilation for solaris 10 sparc on Linux x86
I'd like to do cross-compilation for solaris 10 sparc on Linux x86 using gcc (for linux). To do that, I have to copy libraries (/lib/64) and includes (/usr/include) from a sparc machine to my linux machine.
The compilation will be run on about (up to) 50 Linux machines (by various developers). We also have 3 solaris-10-SPARC machines.
I wonder if Solaris license allows me to copy the includes and libs to perform compilation elsewhere.
I also checked "OTN License Agreement for Oracle Solaris", but it looks like Oracle allows for installing "the programs" on up to 3 machines, but I need it on 50.
Thanks for any suggestions or redirections to a proper place where I can get an answer.
MarekWhen installing Solaris 10 01/06 on a Dell 1850 I receive an error message during the install saying "no disk found". I assume that the drive/controller is not recognized. The Dell 1850 is listed under the HCL for Solaris 10 10/06. I don't believe I can use the Solaris(TM) Device Driver for the LSI MegaRAID Adapter floppy with 1/06. I dont have any other Solaris boxes up so I cant build a jump start server. Any suggestions?

What is the cpu architeture of solaris version of BPEL bundle, x86 or SPARC
Hello,
I'd like to know what is the cpu architeture of solaris version of BPEL bundle, x86 or SPARC located here: http://download.oracle.com/otn/solaris/ias/1012/as_sun_bpel_101200.cpio
The file is more than 400Mb in size, so I need to know before downloading.
Thanks.hi,
are there any plans to release it for x86 (32 bit) platform. I'm also interested in testing beta versions of oracle software (specifically bpel, jdeveloper) on solaris 10 x86 platform, is there any beta CD available for these purposes?
thanks. -
Solaris 10 binary compatibility sparc/x86
Hi,
is it possible to use software compiled on Solaris 10 sparc on a x86 system?
Thanks for any hints in advance.
BurkhardThat's what I expected, but if you look at:
http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/ontheinside/
They say:
Guaranteed application compatibility from release to release as well as between SPARC and x86 platforms so you can run the same OS from your desktop to your datacenter.

9.2.0.3 patch set installation fails on Solaris 8
i've installed Oracle9iR2 (64-bit) client on a Solaris 8 system and i'm now having problems installing the 9.2.0.3 patch set. during the installation process i get the following error message from OUI:
Error in invoking target install of makefile
$ORACLE_HOME/network/lib/ins_net_client.mk
i checked the installation log and then $ORACLE_HOME/install/make.log. make.log reports that the failing command is:
/usr/ccs/bin/make -f ins_net_client.mk install ORACLE_HOME=/opt/oracle9i/u01/app/oracle/product/9.2.0
this command fails when trying to link trcroute. the link command seems to have incorrect paths as it seems to expect to find crt?.o files from $ORACLE_HOME/lib/WS6U1 while they are located in $ORACLE_HOME/lib/WS6U2/lib/v9. i modified $ORACLE_HOME/network/lib/env_network.mk (CCVER, COMPOBJ) so that crt?.o can be found.
after this change the same link command fails with this message:
ld: fatal: file $ORACLE_HOME/network/lib/s0nur.o:
wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32
ld: fatal: File processing errors. No output written to trcroute
*** Error code 1
make: Fatal error: Command failed for target `trcroute'
i checked the object files in network/lib and they all seem to be ELF 32-bit.
does someone know what's causing these problems with the installation and how to fix it?
best regards,
aspathat's what i started to suspect as well. it's quite likely that the patch is for 32-bit installations. i'll try it with the 64-bit patch. thanks.

10g Release 2 (10.2.0.4) Patch Set 3 for Linux x86 is available
For all those who were in need of some bug fixing, maybe it has been patched in 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.4) Patch Set 3 for Linux x86, which is now available for download.
Hello Srini, thanks for your answer.
I haven´t Oracle Dataguard, I have a disk replication with other supplier, for this reason, I need to know the files that will be modified, because if the patch modifies a file that I haven´t on replication, I will have problems.
Thanks again. -

Java_es-5-websuite-ga-windows-x86 installation issue not setting JAVA_HOME
looks like the installer from java_es-5-websuite-ga-windows-x86.zip is not setting the JAVA_HOME variable correctly.
C:\Sun\JavaES5\DSEE\dscc6\bin>dsccsetup.exe initialize
Failed to create child process ["1/bin/java.exe" -Dsun.directory.clip. [...]Sorry for the late response. Do you need the other components provided by JES? If not, I suggest installing DSEE from the zip installer which can be downloaded separately. If you have to use JES and the problem is still not resolved, please log a case with Sun.

Problems making Solaris 10 install disk for x86
I have an Ultra 40 M2. I made a boot/install DVD disk with Solaris 10 for x86.
The system just doesn't recognize it at all, like there is nothing in the DVD drive.
What am I doing wrong?
The DVD drive does recognize other DVDs, just not the Solaris 10 install one (I created two install disks to no avail)How are you burning the DVD. What software/options.
Theres a howto here

Keyboard messed up on Solaris 10 x86 after applying patch update
I have run into a keyboard problem on my Solaris 10 desktop. The keyboard is messed up. When I type root then it echoes as eiir. It is a Solaris 10 x86 system with PS/2 keyboard. The keyboard layout is US-English and type is generic 104 keys. The keyboard works fine in text mode but gets messed up as soon as the graphical login screen comes up.
The output for eeprom kbd-type is kbd-type=US-English(104-Key).
The output for kbd -l is
type=6
layout=33 (0x21)
delay(ms)=500
rate(ms)=40.
Running command showrev -p | grep 118966 shows

The file /var/dt/Xerrors contains the following error

Error: No Symbols named "ralt_switch_multikey" in the include file "level3"

Abandoning symbols file "basic"
Error: Num_Lock added to symbol map for multiple modifiers
Using Mod3, ignoring Mod2.
Abandoning symbols file "default"
My keyboard was working fine till around a couple of days back and messed up after performing updates with Sun Update Manager. The patch 118966-21 was installed during that update and so was patch 118844-30. I have not tried uninstalling either of these patches to see if that fixes the problem. Should I?
Please help!!! ThanksProblem solved... me the n00b...
After reading the log in /var/dt/Xerrors more closely this time I found that it was trying to load module "Keyboard" for the device "Keyboard1" and was not able to find that module. The log was also suggesting that this module is deprecated and I should use "kbd" instead... Made the changes in xorg.conf and things are good now... -

Solaris 10 Sparc - Linux2.6 x86
I want to port my Solaris 10 Sparc V240 machine's output to be displayed in my x86 CPU installed with JDS Linux2.6. I tried with xhost and also set my DISPLAY variable... but it showed nothing.
Can it actually be done? if not why? I could port Solaris 10 x86 CPU's output to be displayed on Linux x86 CPU....
hope can clear my doubt.. thanks
VDI will assume that you have done this before and it had worked for other sytsems.
It would help if you gave more details. Like show the command you ran to set DISPLAY (use a fake name for the host if desired). What is the command your are trying to have displayed remotely?
Also did you get an error?
-If so, it could be as simple as the DISPLAY variable not being exported (i.e. export DISPLAY).
-If not, do you have multiple displays? For example I have two and if I want windows to appear on the second I set DISPLAY=desthost:0.1 which makes it show up on the second one. Did you just set DISPLAY=desthost:0 and it could be defaulting to a "fake"display that doesn't actually exist so you don't ever see anything.
Another possibility is that the host name lookup is giving you some other systems IP address. Make sure your lookups are going to the correct place (BTW this is probably a long shot).
As a side note. You may consider using VNC to do this. Just set up a VNC server on the host you want to get to remotely. Then run a VNC viewer on the remote host and run the commands (windows) under VNC. The added benefits are that it's much faster when using this over a WAN with any kind of VPN tunnel and you can exit the viewer while leaving the commands running and go back in later, even from a different system to check on them.
Hope that helps.
