Solaris 10 with Adaptec 7902 with 36G or 73G, not correctly find disk space

I'm trying to install Solaris 10 x86 on an server on TYAN platform k8sr. Its got an Adaptec 7902 SCSI controller, without RAID.
It used 36G drive - Solaris interface thinks there is only a 9G drive in the system!
I change drive on 72G drive - Solaris thinks there is only a 18G drive!!!! After update, so on!!!!
Solaris 10 Express find full space drive, but not boot from this drive, Solaris 9 find full space drive, but not load to this drive. I'm test this drive on Windows, and FreeBSD - it's good
Please, help me,
Thanks

Does the Solaris 10 sd driver ITU floppy (patch 119376-02) fix this
problem?

So, have you created an iCloud account and is your device connected to iCloud?

You will need to restore it as new. unfortunately you will lose any data not saved but you can still redownload all of your apps.

Hard drive says I have more than 300 GB available with a 500 gb capacity. Yet I get "Low Disk Space" error messages when I do anything.
    Attempted solutions:
-I created a new User Account and I can download large files with no issues.
-I ran "Repair Disk Permissions" but still get warnings.
    Google Drive Warning:
    Spotify Warning:
But on my other user account I can use spotify and download large files, etc.

Back up all data. Don't continue unless you're sure you can restore from a backup, even if you're unable to log in.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Enter the following command in the Terminal window in the same way as before (triple-click, copy, and paste):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1 or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

Any other way to do it?

  • Solaris 8 on IA with Promise Ultra100

    Hello,
i'm a newbie and i have an installation problem.
How can i install Solaris 8 on IA with a
    promise ultra100 controller-card.
    Can everyone help me?
    T. Wrobel

That doesn't work because there's no solaris driver
for the promise ide controller (these promise ide
controllers are not 100% pci-ide compliant and need
special driver support). Ask promise for such a
    solaris driver.
Most mainboards come with a PCI-IDE compliant
controller on the mainboard's chipset. Connect the
hard disk drive to that controller and solaris can
    use the disk drive.

    Hello All,
I would love to know if someone has a solution to this as I am seeing a similar issue with a slightly different setup.
Solaris 8 and Netra 240. I get the same result with and without patches and finish scripts. After the jumpstart and the failed boot attempt from disk. I can boot from cd, copy the glm driver from the cd to disk, and then everything works as it should. Obviously this is not a solution but only a work around.
Is it something to do with the SCSI hardware architecture used in the *240s?

  • Jds-help and Solaris Management Console compatible with jdk6u1?

    Hello,
I am running Sol 10 11/06 for sparc on a Sun Blade. I just upgraded to jdk6u1 from jdk5. I installed all required j6 packages, and then installed patches for j6u1. I then used pkgrm to remove all jdk5-related packages (I searched for all packages starting with SUNWj5 and then removed them). Java seems to be working fine.
Now, my Desktop Overview and other java-related help functions do not work. I get this error:
    # jds-help ghelp:jdsoverview
** (jdshelp:826): WARNING **: An exception occured 'Unknown CORBA exception id: 'IDL:omg.org/CORBA/COMM_FAILURE:1.0''
A large jre error log is produced that mentions a problem with JVM:
    # An unexpected error has been detected by Java Runtime Environment:

    # Problematic frame:
    # V [libjvm.so+0x14dd6c]
Solaris Management Console does not work either, and gives an error that no suitable java 2 version is installed in /usr/java.
Maybe I removed a j5 package I shouldn't have. Which j5 packages are related to the operation of jds-help? Any ideas as to what is causing my problem with jds-help and smc?
Does anyone know FOR SURE that jdshelp and smc are compatible with jdk6u1?
    Thank you...

I got rid of jdk6 and re-installed 1.5.0.11. Solaris Management Console 2.1 works again, so it appears as if smc and Sun Studio 11 are both INCOMPATIBLE with jdk/jre6.
jds-help still does not work, with a jvm error, so perhaps it is also incompatible with jdk/jre 1.5.0.10+.

  • Solaris 10 on 280R with A1000

We have loaded solaris 10 ( 3/05) on our server i.e. Sunfire 280R with A1000 storage connected to it thru SCSI cable. We have addon SCSI card installed in server. Our A1000 is having only one controller.
    Afterthat we have loaded sun storage RAID Manager 6.22 software to configure A1000 , we have made slices using RAID 5 & using RM6 utility. While rebooting the server we are getting following two errors & keeps scrolling on screen for about 10 minutes , though we are able to access A1000;
    1. Warning : mod_load : cannot load module 'rdriver'
    2. /kernel/drv/spark9/rdriver:undefined symbol 'dev_get_dev_info'
Is any solution to above errors? Is any patch / upgrade / firmware etc for above errors ?
Will it recommended to upgrade to solaris 10 or continue with solaris 9. we are using this as a database server with oracle 10G.

FYI, I think Sun discontinued support for the A1000 h/w in Solaris 10... should be documented.
I only mention this in case you want to have Sun support help you... if it works fine, I generally wouldn't worry. But it is a production system, I might have second thoughts about using Solaris 10 with unsupported h/w.
    My $.02, YMMV.

  • Startup problem with Adaptec FireWire/USB drive enclosure?

I recently acquired a Core Duo 1.66GHz mini. Soon after buying it I noticed that on startup, I get to the gray screen with Apple logo, and it freezes there for about 3-4 minutes before the spinning wheel appears briefly and then OS X starts normally.
I eventually figured out that it only does this when my Adaptec 3.5" FireWire/USB drive enclosure is connected via FireWire. If the drive is not connected the mini starts up lightning fast.
It seems to be an issue specific to the mini and this model of enclosure. I put another drive in the enclosure; same issue. I tried another enclosure I had; issue doesn't happen. I tried the Adaptec enclosure with a MacBook; issue doesn't happen. I exchanged the Adaptec enclosure for another of the same model; the issue still occurs. I even exchanged the mini for another; the issue still occurs.
Any ideas as to why this is happening and what I might do to fix it? I don't restart very often so this isn't too annoying, nonetheless I'd really love to fix it if I can.

Afraid it is all downhill from here: from what I have learnt, that drive uses a Prolific Revision A chipset. This means it cannot be used as the boot drive for your mac. http://www.ultraproducts.com/ seems to be the manufacturer and on their website forums about their enclosures detail similar issues and worse - write failures over firewire.
I cannot say much about the chipsets. Some folk swear by Oxford, which has to the best of my knowledge always supported Firewire startup. Personally, my ext hd is a Prolific Rev C and I have had no problems at all.
That all said and done, I trust that only the firewire connection is made and not the FW and USB? Also, if it is connected only via USB, are the mount problems experienced?
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
