Solaris 10 X-86 On Compaq NX9600

Please help! I am trying to load Solaris 10 X-86 on an HP and an older IBM laptop (R32). The IBM gives a media error and doesn't even try to boot from the cd (regardless of the boot settings in the BIOS). It says no OS available and just hangs (the Windows XP that was on it is totally corrupt). I have tried to load a dual boot setup on an HP laptop (Compaq Nx9600). The first partition is Windows XP Pro (since it doesn't play well with others and wants the first boot block). I have tried to boot from the DVD and from the CD-ROM (4 disk) version I downloaded and burned recently from sun.com. With this laptop I get to where the GRUB tells me there is a ".tar.gz" file that it can't open (may be for keyboard) and then the "Languages" selection comes up in the interaction load. The problem is I have no keyboard interaction. The system is hung. Please help! I am at my whits end! I have tried 3 burners and 10 different tries!

Ok, I replaced the failing NIC. Now 193.0.0.2 uses its iprb0 network adapter that is attached on the Motherboard and 193.0.0.1 has a new Realtek NIC. I downloaded the drivers and followed the instructions to install them.
According to me, it all went fine but still the machines can't ping each other.
I took a laptop and unplugged the crossover cable from *.1 . When I give my laptop the IP address 193.0.0.1 (instead of the Dell machine) and connect it to *.2 using the crossover cable, then these two can ping each other.
When I give my laptop the IP address *.2 and conntect it to the *.1 Dell machine using the crossover cable, then these two also can ping each other.
But when I connect the two Dell machines with the cross over cable: nothing.
I followed your advice to change the /kernel/drv/iprb.conf of *.2 . Now I also did the same for *.1 ; according to the man-pages, I can add the same line to /kernel/drv/rtls.conf .
The strange thing is that when I reboot them, then *.2 gives me the message:
iprb0: No MII link detected
and *.1 is so stubborn to stay in Half Duplex:
rtls0: link up -- 100Mbps Half Duplex
I thought that "No MII link detected" means that there is no cable connected, but the cable is plugged in (*). Maybe it appears because *.2 is booted up faster than *.1 ?
What might I have done wrong? It really baffles me that pinging from or to the laptop does not give any problem, but among each other there is no reaction at all.
Greetings,
Wim
(*) it is a cross over cable and the test with the laptop proves that it works, no?

  • Solaris 10 fails to install on Compaq ML370

    Hello All,
I would like to install Solaris10 on Compaq ProLiant ML370. I've configured the machine to expect UNIX - Solaris. I see on Compaq's web that Solaris 2.6, 2.7 and 8 are supported.
Unfortunatelly, when I boot from installation DVD the setup crashes with this error:
    PANIC [CPU0] /thread=fec1e1a0: BAD TRAP:TYPE=0 (+DE DIVIDE ERROR).
I am downloading Solaris 10 (11/06) to give it a try... I would appreciate any suggestions.
    Thank you for your time.

    Hello All,
This issue has been addressed by setting OS to 'other' (not Solaris).
I've used smartstart cd and removed all server's configuration. Then, I've set the server for Solaris installation (The Solaris 2.6 up to 8 are supported). The bad trap error did show up again. However, when I changed the OS to 'other', I was able to start the installation process successfully.
    Thank you,

  • Solaris on Dell/Compaq Multi-CPU servers?

Am interested in hearing from anyone who has used Solaris 8 on either a Compaq or Dell server with multiple CPUs. Have a client interested in such a configuration, but am concerned that since that isn't a bundle option, that I may be helping to steer them down a difficult road.
    Thanks,
    Ewan

Solaris 8 worked OK for us on a compaq proliant dl360.
    Compaq has solaris 8 <a

    driver update diskettes

  • Console access through USB- Solaris x86

    Hi,
I installed Solaris 9 on my laptop, Compaq Presario V2000 Series. My laptop does not have a Serial Port attached. I was wondering whether I can access the console through USB . And if so, can you please also provide me the instructions on how to configure it.

    Hello.
/dev/dsk/c7t0d0s0The "s" tells me that you use a Sparc system - right?
    /dev/dsk/c7t0d0s0
"s0" is the primary partition on Sparc formatted disks.
The whole disk is identified by "s2" on Sparc systems.
If the floppy disk does not have a partition table (this is the case for removable media such as 3.5" disks) you should use
    /dev/dsk/c7t0d0s2
For non-removable or integrated media (such as "USB sticks") XP often adds a partition table. In this case you must add ":c" to the partition name:
    /dev/dsk/c7t0d0s2:c

  • Solaris 8 installation problems

    Hello,
I'm trying to install Solaris 2.8 on a Compaq server.
I have the tree cd's downloaded from your site.
    config: internal ultra scsi 2 ctrlr with 1 * 18gb H/D
internal ide ctrlr with cd drive and diskette drive
In both ways , i do an update driver to recognize the internal H/D .(F4 menu at first screen)
1.When i tried to boot from Installation cd , I've a message saying : no disks that meet the criteria in the Solaris installer documentation found !! (but the disk is present when i do a format cmd and i don't know which criterias are needed ?
2.When i tried to boot on software cd 1 , i can load the software on the disk, but after that, the installer ask me to put the diskette labeled CPQNCR26350 in the diskette drive .
I put the diskette in the drive (the previously used diskette i use to update drivers at first screen) but the program said : driver cpqncr not on diskette ??
    I'm sure it's the correct one .
    Can anybody help me ?
    Thanks for answer !!

    Thanks for answer.
    I've tried this mthod:
    1. Booting from dca diskette
    2. Updating drivers with DU diskette (cpqncr.itu,smartii;itu,cpqfcs.itu,cpqary2.itu)
    3. Continuing using cdrom 1 of 2 in interactive mode.
After that i've the message :
    Solaris 8 s/w installation succeeded
    Customizing system files --> ok
    Customizing system devices --> ok
    Installing boot information --> ok
    Installing unbundled device driver support
Extracting driver list from tree ..
    CPQNCR26350 drv/cpqncr
Please insert the DU diskette labeled CPQNCR26350
    Press <ENTER> when ready
... I insert the diskette here ... and --> following message appears :
    Driver cpqncr not on diskette
    What's wrong ?
The only things I've seen is :
When i've construct the 4 DU diskettes, when QRST5.EXE has been executed to make the 4 disks, the messages on screen was :
Compaq Solaris DU diskette for Solaris 2.6 !!!!! and also in the readme files on DU diskette, 2.6 appears, but these drivers have been take from Solaris 2.8 link !!!
Perhaps it's the reason it doesn't see it as the correct drivers ?
Do you have other link to download the drivers ?
    Thanks for your support.

  • Cant install Tape(scsi) in Solaris 2.6

Before installing Solaris 2.6 in a Compaq Proliant DL380 with intel CPU, the TAPE is detected.
After installing Solaris 2.6, it doesn't detect the TAPE drive.
Does anyone nows how can i solve this problem ?
    Thanks a lot

    2 things,
    1. Your find command will find what you're looking for if what
you're looking for is under your present directory. That's what
the . is indication. The search your entire system, replace the
. with a / which will tell find to start from the root directory
and work down. The only problem with that is, if you have mounted
drives, find will try to search them (this isn't always
desirable), and if you are using find as a user you will see a
large number of permission denied messages.
    2. If you are using /bin/ksh for your shell, another way to find
a command (assuming it's in your path) is to use the 'whence'
    command. Here's an example:
    ksh> whence gunzip
    /usr/bin/gunzip
    ksh>
If your system doesn't have gzip or gunzip, go to the gnu web page
    www.gnu.org

  • Installing Solaris 9  on  1850r w/SmartArray 221

I am in the midst of attempting to install Solaris 9 x-86 on a Compaq Proliant 1850r with a SmartArray 221 RAID controller. As Compaq has not released any drivers for Solaris 9 for intel, I was forced to try to use the Solaris 8 SmartArray driver for the 221 controller. The install program accepts the Solaris 8 221 driver during the first part of the install. It finds the array, and begins copying files to it. However at the end of the GUI portion of the install, after it has successfully written to the drives, the setup program opens a window prompting me to re- insert the driver diskette. When I put in the disk containing the smartii driver which setup recognized, and successfully used to write to the disks earlier in the install, I get a message informing me that the smartii driver is not located on the disk. I have repeated the procees, re-downloaded the driver disk, also tried with the solaris 7 x-86 driver all with the same result. Has anyone found a way to make this work? Please post any solutions to this issue. Thanks

I had exactly the same problem trying to install Solaris 9 x86 onto a Compaq ML530 with a SmartArray 431 controller.
The problem is that Compaq haven't updated the drivers for Solaris 9. So, for the driver to work on the Solaris 9 install you will have to make some changes to the DU diskette.
The reason that the installer cannot find the driver on the diskette the second tome around, is that it is looking for the 2.9 version of the driver and not the 2.8 version of the driver that is on the diskette.
What you have to do is to rename the a: \DU\sol_28 directory on the diskette, to a:\DU\sol_29
Next you have to edit the a:\DU\release.def file and change the number 28 in that file to the number 29
Having done these two things, the installer should now accept the Driver on the diskette and you should be able to complete the installation successfully.

  • PCMCIA on Compaq Armada M700

    Hi
I have installed Solaris 8 x86 on my Compaq Armada M700 laptop. Everything works fine including video which I installed XFree86 for, except that Solaris does not see my PCMCIA controller.
Does anyone have any sugegstions ?
    Best Regards / Gareth

Does PCMCIA come with a Solaris driver ? I believe it needs a driver
which can recognize the pcmcia card when inserted or to talk to it.
You can look through these sites to find the hardware compatibility
list for your pcmcia card, and there are other driver related
information on these sites, which may help.

One or more Safari extensions are the cause for Safari crashing.
Can you access Safari > Preferences > Extensions before Safari crashes??
If not, startup your Mac in Safe Mode
A Safe Mode boot takes much longer than a normal boot so be patient.
Then launch Safari. Then go to Safari > Preferences > Extensions. Uninstall all the extensions then quit and relaunch Safari to test.
Once you are in Safe Mode, click Restart from the Apple () menu.
You also need to uninstall Rapport. You don't need to be in Safe Mode to do this.

FYI, Rapport software has caused many Mac users problems as noted from the results of an ASC search here.
