Solaris 10 x86 cdrw trouble.  Gnome and command line problems writing.

I'm experiencing general weirdness trying to write CD's and DVD's using a new internal DVD-RW device -- It's a Sony NEC AD 7220 A CD / DVD RW drive on a Solaris 10 x86 AMD system. I have searched far and wide for other threads of similar instances but no one has posted an issue like the one I'm having.
I have a Sony Optiarc AD 7220 A CD-RW on a x86 AMD Athalon 1.6 ghz based server with 2 GB RAM.
The DVD-RW drive gets detected by BIOS (Phoenix TrustedCore 2.3) and reads disks fine. I installed Solaris 10.08 from DVD using this DVD-RW drive.
However, trying to write to new blank media does not work properly, (effectively at all).
I've tried different brands of brands of blank CD's and CD-R and CD+R (have not tried using CD-RW disks yet). Ditto with DVD's - tried DVD-R and DVD+R's.
1. Inside the Solaris 10 GUI (Gnome, a.k.a. Java Desktop), when I put in a blank CD-R, a dialog box "Format Media...?" pops up. If I click "Ok" it formats the blank CD and closes the session, CD has been written to and is ruined.
2. I open a terminal window, as root, and put in a blank CD. "mkisofs –r /home/foo 2>/dev/null | cdrw –i –p 1" will write a directory tree OK, but if I go back into gnome GUI and open and close the CD tray, again, up pops the "Format Media..." dialog box instead of the CD appearing on the desktop. If I restart vold (svcadm restart volfs) then open and close the CD tray, voila, the contents appear on desktop as CD icon.
3. When I try to write to a DVD-R: "cdrw -i /local/iso_image" It always fails with: Write Track 1....Failed. after a few minutes. It did in fact write part of the .iso but bails out with a failure.
I've tried various other write commands (specifying the device ID, speed, so on and so forth) and command line switch options (following the rules of course) and it seems to me to be more than a syntax / media issue. However if it is I would like to know. I did see a similar CDRW device on the HCL for OpenSolaris with a 'reported to work' rating. That was for a Optiarc AD-5200A, which is going away thus my company has chosen to use the AD 7220A in speciality racks we build and deliver to the U.S. Navy.
I really need to get a handle on this CD-RW device issue and decide if a different brand / model is what it's going to take to solve this and move on to producing and delivering these systems in working conditions.

Sony systems are often very particular about what CD's and DVD's they'll take. I have several Sony systems that I use for video work and they'll read almost anything but they'll only write to DVD RW.  They also don't like cheap brand CD's and DVD's.  Be sure to try both CD RW and DVD RW before doing anything else.  Because of the requirement for DVD RW, they won't take fast speed (16x) DVD's, just 4x. If all of this turns out to be the case, you may want to go with a different manufacturer for the drive, DVD +RW 4x aren't always easy to find in the store.

    Hello I am on a macbook pro (retina IOS 9) i have installed xcodes and command line tools but codeblocks does not compile, terminal gives this message /Users/MacPc/Desktop/Untitled1: Permission denied      any one has a solution?? please...

    Back up all data before proceeding.
    This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
    Step 1
    If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
    Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    sudo find ~ $TMPDIR.. -exec chflags -h nouchg,nouappnd,noschg,nosappnd {} + -exec chown -h $UID {} + -exec chmod +rw {} + -exec chmod -h -N {} + -type d -exec chmod -h +x {} + 2>&-
    Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
    Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
    You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
    The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
    Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
    Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
              Utilities ▹ Terminal
    from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
    res
    Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
    Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
    Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
    Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
    Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
               ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • How are Windows Server Backup and Command Line Tools used in vCSHB installation?

    How are Windows Server Backup and Command Line Tools used during the installation of vCSHB?  Is it required in all types of deployments (PtoV, VtoV, PtoP)? Is it used to create the files that are put in the file share for the second node to use during vCSHB installation or is it only used during a vCSHB clone operation of a Physical to Physical deployment?  Are these tools not used in some deployments?

    You need Windows Server Backup installed on source and destination, and during the installation of vCSHB the installer will invoke the wbadmin (Windows Server Backup Utility) and will backup configuration and application data (application data is optimal but can decrease the sync time after installation of secondary node). On the secondary node you will need only run the vCSHB installer and everything will be restored.
    Check this blog entry for some more info about some problems in P2P deployment: http://www.vcoportal.de/2013/12/vmware-vcenter-server-heartbeat-restore-on-a-second-node-a-journey/

  • Problem Using Sax parser with Eclipse 3.0 and command line

    Hi,
    I am parsing a xml file with sax. When I am running my programm in the command line everthing is ok and I get the right results from parsing.
    But if I am running the programm in Eclipse 3.0 (the same java code) I get an other result (the wrong results).
    Does anybody know what this can be the reason for. Is Eclipse using an other xml parser and if where I can change the parser?
    It would be very kind if somebody can give me a reason for this strange behaviour.
    Thanks in advance

    I have solved my problem.
    In the command line I used jre 1.4 and in Eclipse I used jre 1.5.
    I think jre 1.5 uses an other xml parser so I got an other result.
    If i use in Eclipse jre1.4 I get the same result as in the command line.

  • REP-0713 error when using r25run32 and command line

    Help,
    I have what seems to be a very strange problem. I have the following
    command line saved as a batch file called Test.bat. If I double-click on it
    or run it from the command prompt, it works fine - it runs a report and
    prints it.
    d:\orant\bin\r25run32.exe report=test1.rep userid=user1/user1@testdb
    paramform=no destype=printer desname="HP" desformat=dflt printjob=no
    However, if I use a program scheduler, it crashes with the error:
    "REP-0713: Invalid printer name 'HP' specified by parameter name DESNAME"
    I have tried Norton Scheduler, NT AT command, as well as a couple other
    shareware programs. All crash with this error. If I use background=yes,
    again it works if I run it, but when a scheduler starts it, the Report
    Server crashes. Instead, if I use batch=yes, it just crashes after a few
    seconds.
    If I use printjob=yes, the printer dialog pops up, I press OK, and it works
    fine. I have tried outputting to a PDF file, but again, it works if I run
    the batch file, but not when a scheduler does.
    I am using Reports 2.5, Oracle 7.1, NT4 SP6. I have also tried the Reports
    3.0 runtime (r30run32) with the same results. I just need to run/print a
    report automatically every day.
    Any ideas are greatly appreciated, Thanks.

    I just concatenate them , for example if my key fields of the table are document number and item number , i concatenate them and put it in the key_column.
    How do i read them in my oninputprocessing.
    data: tv type ref to cl_htmlb_tableview.
      tv ?= cl_htmlb_manager=>get_data(
                              request      = runtime->server->request
                              name         = 'tableView'
                              id           = 'test' ).
      if tv is not initial.
        data: tv_data type ref to cl_htmlb_event_tableview.
        tv_data = tv->data.
    <document no.> = tv_data->selectedrowkey+0(10) .
    <item no.>   = tv_data->selectedrowkey+10(5) .
    if i need more info then i read the itab with key document number = <document no.> and
    item number     = <item no.>
    Hope this is clear.

  • Constructors and command lines

    I would like to know how you allow command line input for a constructor created object.
    For example, my patient class has a constructor that will create a patient with 5 parameters id, name, age, etc.....
    public Patient(int d, String n, int a, int s, int x) {
                   id = d;
                   age = a;
                   tl = s;
                   name = n;
                   timearv = x;
    In my Clinic class I would like to allow a user to be able to enter details on the command line to create a patient......DON'T KNOW HOW!!!
    below is what i've come up with, but of course it doesnt work.....any help would be appreciated.....
    Clinic c = new Clinic();
                   System.out.println("Add patient details");
                   Patient x = new Patient(id, name, age, tl,timearv);

    Normally you present the user with a form consisting of fields the user fills in. When the user is finished and presses an OK button you read the filled-in fields and convert them to the internal types you expect/need. This information is then used to create objects.
    You can read about this in the Swing tutorial.
    A simpler way is to read from the standard input like this,
    http://javaalmanac.com/egs/java.io/ReadFromStdIn.html
    You can convert the read Strings to numbers like this,
    http://javaalmanac.com/egs/java.lang/ConvertNum.html

  • Help with char and command line arguments

    I am writing a program that takes 2 command line arguments (such as 4 b, or 3 4, etc.). It uses the first argument to determine the height of a triangle (how many rows high), and the second is the character with which the triangle is drawn.
    My problem is I tend to code backwards - go for the bigger part and then figure out the smaller things. So, I've written a program that prints out this triangle, BUT I can't figure out how to get the command line arguments into it properly. A number works fine because I can:
    size = Integer.parseInt(args[0]);
    but what do I do if the second argument is a character? Args is a String array (I've been fighting with it for the past 4 hours, so I KNOW its a String array) - so how can I get a char to be read as args[1]?
    Here is my code before adding in the second argument (the char):
    public class Triangle
    public static final void main(String[] args)
    int size;
    if (args.length > 0)
    try
    size = Integer.parseInt(args[0]);
    catch(NumberFormatException e)
    System.out.println("Input Error");
    createFilledTriangle(size);
    System.out.println();
    public static void createFilledTriangle(int size)
    int i = 0;
    int j = 0;
    for(i = size, j = 1; i > 0; i--, j +=2)
    printChar(" ", i);
    printChar("*", j); <-----Instead of using * I want to use the second command line arg
    System.out.println();
    private static void printChar(String str, int total)
    for(int i = 0, i < total; i++)
    if(i%2 == 1)
    System.out.print(str);
    else
    System.out.print(" ");
    Thank you for any help in advance!

    I was sure i send it the other day, i probably send it to the wron guy.
    This will give you more idea about drawing.

  • HiQ doesn't execute scripts and command line commands

    I am running HiQ pro 4.5 on Windows 2000 SP 2. Whenever I enter a command line command, e.g. "1+1", HiQ reports "no error reported" and doesn't execute the command. When I enter the same command again, HiQ tells me that a semicolon is missing.
    When I try to execute a script, HiQ reports "Fatal Script error on line -1".
    Anybody knows this behaviour and how to get HiQ running normally?

    I do have the same problem.

  • Single Sign On and Command line

    Hi!
    We have application without any logon form which executed from command line by BAT file:
    app.exe Username Password par1 par2 ...
    where par1, par2... is parameters of application
    So question is: can Oracle Single Sign On set user credentials to the command line? Can we use OSSO for application without logon form?
    Thank you.

    SSO is for web apps, you could try to use OID to perform the autentification of your application but you should change your application so it looks for the users in LDAP.
    Greetings.

  • Javac command line problem

    Why might the javac.exe, java.exe, and javaw.exe command lines not stay open? When I open these files, the command line flashes open and immediately disappears.
    I tried opening these files using "Run as..." and unchecking the "Protect my computer from unauthorized program activity" option (as my first guess was and still is that I am running into some kind of Windows security settings problem), but this seemed to have no effect.
    I am using Windows XP Professional with all updates as of 06-21-2007.

    You always want to run executables like that and things like .bat files from a command window. To open a command window, follow jverd's post, reply #2.

  • Acrobat Reader command line problem

    In windows xp professional I'm programatically creating a batch file and executing it (shell command in visual basic) to convert pdf files to Microsoft xps.
    The batch command looks like this one:
    "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 10.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe" /t "D:\MyDir\Microsoft XPS Document\x.pdf" "Microsoft XPS Document Writer" /t "D:\MyDir\Microsoft XPS Document\x.xps".
    When the user logged in on the machine is an administrator, acrobat reader does the operation silently. When a normal user (not belonging to administrators group) is logged in on the machine, acrobat reader opens the save as dialog window requiring user interaction.
    The normal user has full control over the destination directory. I already tested giving the normal user full control over AcroRd32.exe and over cmd.exe with no success. I also tried in visual basic 2008 executing the command through System.Diagnostics.Process.Start with the exact same curious results.
    Can someone help.
    Thank you.

    Hi.
    I couldn't find a solution within Adobe for the problem I reported Oct 9, 2012, so I went to a fallback solution aimed to complete the needed stages. I'm posting here the visual basic 2008 code I wrote then. It is not a graceful solution and has some coarse code but was designed as part of an application that must keep processing files without user intervention. The procedure "followAcroRd32PDFtoXPS" must be called after the execution of a batch command like the described in the previous post:
    Module fallback

  • BlueJ command line problem

    Hi i am new to java practicing since 3 weeks now. i am using blueJ iam liking it but the problem i am facing is i can't pass command line parametres to String args through BlueJ .After right clicking on Main program (in Insert Sort) it asks for arguments when i pass the arguments that is
    4 3 2 0 1 it says :- "}" expected or ";" expected and same program if i run thru command line passing parametres it works fine. The thing is i want to use debug features of Bluej which i can't using command prompt
    please help me out

    thanks for your quick response.
    i am new to this stuff. are u telling me that
    java VectorTest one two
    will return as 0 even though there are 2
    arguments for the args array.
    if so what do i do.create a new class to accept the
    arguments and add them to the vector?
    No, if you put the command line as you describe, you should get args.length = 2, as you would expect.
    BTW - the reason your square brackets are disappearing is because the forum uses square brackets for special formatting - which is a real pain. I think the following should work:
    String nString = args;
    [ / code]
    But it doesn't exactly - the square brackets end up as angle brackets, as you can see - anyone help, please? Also, at the end of the code section, there shouldn't be spaces around the / - I just put them in to stop it acting like a real end of code section.
    Also, notice that there's no need to putnString = new String(args);
    you can use args directly.

  • Hp a1230n reboots and vertical lines problem

    Hi
    I'm completely new so this may even be in the wrong place but yeah basically what it says in the title. It keeps rebooting on its own. Sometimes the screen will only show vertical lines that are the same color as what was on the screen. I've scanned it for viruses with first Macfee and then Avast and they've said its clear, and it runs fine other than the rebooting and lines problem.
    Thank You

    Hello mnstrzero00,
    You’re having problem with the computer rebooting.
    Your problem could be software problem of hardware.
    How long has this problem been happening?
    If it has not been happening for very long you might just try a system restore back to before the problem started. This should correct the problem without affecting any of your files.
    Here is a link to do a restore.
    Before the restore run the following command in command prompt.   SFC /scannow.
    Click start -> click run -> type CMD -> hit enter.
    This will check system files and correct them if it can.
    Also to make sure that it is not hardware.
    Turn off the computer and the n turn back on, at startup tap the F2 and run hardware diagnostics.
    Let me know if this helps.

  • Apple Cube OS9 command line problems.

    I have a old Cube with a partioned HD with OS9.2 on one partition and OSX.2 on the other.  Had been working fine with OS9, but tried to boot the OSX using "Start Disk" and it crashed giving me a command line.    How can I reset the start disk to the OS9? Won't start from a CD for some reason and I can't seem to get it out of this loop.
    This is what it gives me:
    /etc.master.password: no such file or directory
    sh-2.o5a# _
    The only thing I can think of is to type "reboot" and it does...back to this command line.   Not sure of what command I can use to get back to the original
    OS9 boot.   Any help would be appreciated.  Trying to get this computer set up as a word processor for my daughter.  Thanks in advance!!!

    Depress the Option key at startup and the OS 9 partition icon should be shown as a startup option. Click the icon and then the right arrow.

    How can i deploy through sccm

    Use a batch file instead, e.g. "install-mom.cmd" contains your very long command line.
