Solaris 11 (Oracle VM VirtualBox)

I installed the Oracle VM and Solaris 11 to my Windows 7 machine. Works excelent. Now my boss wants me to install it in the Lab Systems which have several users.
The VM shows in the users Desktop, but the system (solaris11) does not.
How can I configure the VM, so i can show the System (solaris11) in all users desktop?..
Do i have to install solaris 11 in every user login?... ? users login throught the domain.

  • Has anyone tried ORACLE VM VIRTUALBOX?

I have just come across this application after I downloaded "Open Office" from Oracle, a free Office Suite. I sounds like this "VirtualBox" is like parallel desktops, but for many diffeent OS's besides Windows. Here is the website: http://www.oracle.com/us/technologies/virtualization/oraclevm/061976.html
    DESCRIPTION:
    MORE ABOUT ORACLE VM VIRTUALBOX
Multiple operating systems on one desktop
Cross-platform guests and hosts including Windows, Linux, and Oracle Solaris, and Mac OS X as a host
Teleportation of running virtual machines between hosts without interruption
    High performance
Support for massive workloads of up to 32 virtual CPUs
    OVF format support

As others have said, it has been around for years. I used it to run Windows XP in both Tiger and Leopard, but when I upgraded to Snow Leopard the then current version of Virtual Box was not ready for the new Mac system, so I never installed it.
It worked fine, once it got set-up properly, but setting it up was not exactly easy. Like many open source applications it was a bit non-intuitive for a Mac user, and the directions were not particularly clear. I believe it took several weeks before everything was working the way I wanted (to be fair, I did want to set it up in a slightly non-standard way).

  • Problem starting Weblogic/SOA Server on Oracle VM VirtualBox

    Hi,
I have installed Oracle VM VirtualBox on a Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit Toshiba Laptop with 6G RAM. I then imported the Pre-built VM for SOA Suite available at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/soasuite/learnmore/vmsoa-172279.html. The VM start ok and the desktop gets displayed with icons. Now when I try to start the Weblogic server using the desktop icon, it hangs with log files indicating that host operating system has a RAM issue, although I have 6G RAM as mentioned above. Can someone help with this?

has anyone used the current Installation DVD (51038030) to install a distributed CE 7.2 system. SAPInst fails to install the SCS instance and doesn't unpack the kernel etc as part of the process. This software will not be installed. Contact your system administrator. You need to ask your System Administrators to allow you to install non-Logo Certified software on your workstation. This is a Windows configuration issue.

  • GUIDE: Oracle VM VirtualBox and Oracle Linux NIC bonding

    Author: Dude
    Date: 01-Jun-2013
    Version: B
    Last updates:
23-Jul-2013, changes required due to forum upgrade
The following  is provided in the hope that it might be useful. If you wish to use it for the purpose of reference, presentation or education, please include the link or information to this forum posting. Thank you!
What is Linux network interface bonding? Simply put, the Linux system provides a kernel driver, which can create a logical network device (bond) using 2 or more Network Interface Controllers (NIC) to accomplish link-aggregation and adapter fault-tolerance. For more information, please see the Deployment Guide at https://linux.oracle.com/documentation/
The channel bonding interface supports several modes of operation. In a typical active-backup set up for fault-tolerance, the system performs MII-based health monitoring of the network interface slaves (eth0, eth1) and assigns them according to bond options and interface availability. In active-backup mode (mode 1), only the current active network device is seen externally.
Linux bonding for fault-tolerance under Oracle VM VirtualBox does not seem to function as advertised. Searching the Internet for more information shows that other people have tried to set up Linux bonding using various virtualization products, virtual host network adapter and bonding options, but without success.
It appears the management of Media Access Control addresses (MAC) interferes with internal routing methods between the host and the virtual machine guest. Using the modinfo bonding command (fig. 1) shows a listing of available parameters for the bonding kernel module. The fail_over_mac parameter addresses the Mac address issue in VirtualBox.
    Fig.1
    # modinfo bonding
    filename:       /lib/modules/2.6.39-400.17.1.el6uek.x86_64
                    /kernel/drivers/net/bonding/bonding.ko
    parm:           fail_over_mac:For active-backup,
                    do not set all slaves to the same MAC;
0 for none (default), 1 for active, 2 for follow (charp)
    Configuration Example
Virtualization Product: Oracle VM VirtualBox 4.2.10
VM Guest OS: Oracle Linux 6.4 (x64)
VM adapter settings: Bridged Adapter, Paravirtualized Network (virtio-net)
    Adapter1 (eth0): 080027436617, en0, Ethernet 1
    Adapter2 (eth1): 08002708F36A, en0, Ethernet 1
Note: If you wish to reset the network adapter names and MAC addresses used by the Oracle Linux guest system, erase the content of /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules and restart the virtual machine.
    1. Create or modify the following configuration files:

As it can be seen from the syslog and ifconfig command output, the bond0 interface was automatically assigned either the MAC address of eth0 or eth1 and the fail-over worked as advertised.
    Good luck!

  • Machine configuration for installing oracle in VirtualBox

    Hi,
Please suggest me required hardware configuration to install oracle application 12.1.3 in LAPTOP through oracle in VirtualBox.
    Thanks
    Suresh

Please see (How Determine The Hardware Specification : CPU, DISK, RAM (Memory) For E-Business R12.1.x Installation? (Doc ID 789438.1)).
R12 requires at least 4 GB of RAM. The total space required for a standard system (not including the stage area) is 85 GB for a fresh install with a production database, and 233 GB for a fresh install with a Vision Demo database. You will need at least 47 GB to accommodate the file system and database files in the stage area directory.

  • Solaris 10 Oracle VDI VirtualBox 3.2 USB support

    Dear folks,
This my first time to the forum, since we are in the progress of deploying 240+ thin clients using Oracle VDI. I was piloting the project in a desktop machines with Sunray 3i. I installed Solaris 10 9/10 and Oracle VDI 3.2.1. However, while I was creating WinXP VM in Virtualbox 3.2 -the one which came with Oracle VDI 3.2- I got that error about being unable to connect to USB proxy server. Eventually this error leads to that all my VMs doesn't support USB redirection. So USB flash disk drive doesn't work in my Sunray 3i. Reading VirtualBox documentation Installing on Solaris hosts , I came across this info "*This does not apply to Solaris 10 hosts due to lack of USB support.*" Is this real?
Does this mean I can't redirect USB hardware to my VMs in the server via Sunray 3i? If this is true, what is the workaround for this problem?
    Please advise me. . .

Other than the documentation stating it doesn't work, in practice have you tested it to not work also?
We have two Solaris 10u5 machines running Vbox 3.2.12 and they pass through USB fine with our Sun Ray 3's (not 3i's but that shouldn't matter).
Did you enable USB passthrough in the VDI core by selecting the desktop pool and going to the Settings -> Sun Ray RDP Settings? Theres checkboxes to enable USB/smartcard pass through.

I want to install solaris 10 as a guest system on virtualbox in Windows XP sp3.
I downloaded the solaris.10.for.x86.dvd disc already.
The installing progress hold on "Skipped interface e1000go" for a long time.
After that, it went into the step of "Select a Language"...
But either the keyboard or mouse does work at all.
The installation dead on showing "Please ....... help: _"
The cursor stopped flicking, showing on the screen all the time.
No matter which key I hitted, there isn't any response at all...
I waited it for more than 8 hours, nothing happened...
Who could tell me why? Thanks for all...
    Host system: WinXP SP3
    Guest system: Solaris 10
    Virtualbox: ver 3.0.8
The guest system used the default configurations.

You can try the newly released Solaris 10 10/09 VDI image from:

This is a complete ready-to-run image that won't require installing. It might help debug issues such as keyboard and mouse, separating it from install issues.

In plain English (as I understand this): Oracle posted drivers that we won't be able to use until 8.1.6 comes out. The readme does indeed say, "JDBC OCI Driver 8.1.6: Client-side JDBC for use on a machine where OCI 8.1.6 is installed." Plus, the FAQ states, "There is no 8.1.6SDK JDBC-OCI driver - this will be available with 8.1.6"
That FAQ was just updated (it is the top item on today's Technet front page).
But the FAQ is erroneous: the driver exists and is available: from an item on the technet front page (from Jan 17th).
We don't have Oracle 8.1.6 here and it doesn't appear to be available yet.
I imagine that this driver was made available for the beta testers out there needing it and also for the rest of us to be able to check ahead if we can still compile.
I do wish they would plainly say as much on that download page (or in the readme). It would have saved some trouble chasing down why this doesn't run.

  • Oracle VM VirtualBox 4.1.0 shared clipboard not working

    Ok, here's my set-up:
    - version: VirtualBox-4.1.0-73009-Win.exe
    - installed on Windows XP SP3 (=host)
    - extensions installed: Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-4.1.0-73009.vbox-extpack
    - guest OS = Oracle Linux 6.1 with KDE
After the installation of Oracle Linux 6.1, I installed the Guest Additions and rebooted the guest. The OpenGL configuration failed but I'm not sure if that's related to my problem.
So the problem is that clipboard sharing didn't work between my host and the guest (both ways). It was enabled under the General Settings.
After some debugging, I noticed that the VBoxClient processes were not running. Starting them manually with user root solved the problem.
The script 98vboxadd-xclient.sh under /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d is present, and I believe this should be executed during the startup of X? Looks like this is not happening (or it happens, but it crashes for some reason). When I execute 98vboxadd-xclient.sh manually with user root, everything works fine...
Anyone else with the same issue?? Is this a known bug?
    Thanks,
    Matthias
Update: looks like the shared clipboard only works when I log in as user root. For a "normal" user, it doesn't work...
Edited by: mhoys on Aug 3, 2011 2:12 PM
