Solaris 2.5.1 download

I need to change the frame buffer on a Sparc 5 system running 2.5.1 OS (8 bit to a 24 bit card). I have misplaced the original media and would like someone to point me to an archive site that would allow me to download an ISO file and burn a bootable CD. I have done this with Solaris 7, 8, and 9. 2.5.1 seems to be too old to be on the Sun download page. Does anyone know where it can be found.
Thanks, Paul E

Hello Paul,
I'm not aware of any site that legally offers or offered Solaris 7 iso-images for download. With Solaris 2.5.1 this is much more unlikely.
Have called your Sun representative, maybe he is able to help you ?
The other choice is to post your inquiry on comp.unix.solaris.

Oracle is dedicated and committed to the J2EE specification. And we play an active roll in the specification community process.
However, in the past, we have been burned by implementing early spec versions (Remember JCorba/JWeb?)... so we tend to wait until the specs themselves are a little more mature. At least final, as opposed to proposed drafts.
Keep in mind... We have a rather large and integrated application environment that customers depend on for mission critical business solutions. And our applications are built on our technology... So, while being committed to innovation and progress, we are also committed to stable, reliable, and available systems. Perhaps a little more so...
If you require more "bleeding edge" technology, then perhaps another application server is better for your needs today. Remember one of J2EE's most promising aspects is code portability... So you can start developing now against another application server, and then when you need enterprise quality RAS (and our platform "catches up" :-), you should (if the OTHER vendor is trully committed to J2EE) be able to run your code whereever it makes the most sense...
And don't discount the transactional qualities that our platform can provide that other's will find difficult (if not impossible) to duplicate.

  • Installing Solaris 8 binaries after download

I'm a newbie and need some help!
I have recently downloaded the Solaris 8 binaries (SPARC), I went for the the multiple file segments. However, I am unable to work out how to bind the files back together to create the CD images (bootable?). Can anyone help or provide a URL to the document that explains this, I haven't used sun.com before and cannot find anything that I'm looking for.
    Thanks in advance.

Although for a different product, this should help. http://wwws.sun.com/software/solaris/freeware/download.html
Basically, you need to unzip all the files, cat the unzipped files together in order into a single file with .iso extension.
Then burn the CD from an image file. Using Easy CD Creator, as Sun suggests, you will select File -> Record CD from Image. Select the .iso file and burn.

Solaris 8 download for Intel has not been available for 3 months, only SPARC, so I'm not sure what you are downloading. You can purchase the media kit from:

The installation media for Oracle Solaris 11.0 are now only available from My Oracle Support, which requires a support contract. If you want the current released version 11.1, you can download that from the Oracle Technology Network site:

  • Reverify a download of Solaris

I am having an issue where i have completed the 3GB download of Solaris using the Sun download manager and when i am going to extract the files i get a CRC error on part A of the file. Is there any way i can get the file back into the Sun download manager and get it to verify or redownload parts that may be missing from the file?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The remote cache of your session is kept 72 hours, probably, but I'm not 100% sure. Thus, after this time, it's not possible. I suggest download whole package again...

  • How to Download Solaris Version of 9iAs Report services...

    Hello all..,
I am facing problem while downloading 9iAS Reports services Solaris verion. While downloading File segments , it is getting saved as text documents... (Or is it supposed to be saved as text document..?)
With the first option (savin as .cpio file) there is a problem . The file (.cpio) is very big file and we are not able to download it at a single strech... So can't go with this option...
Please any body can u please tell any work around.....?
    Regards
    -Raj.

I don't know whether it's supposed to be saved as text documents, alhough it's possible that you're download uuencoded files that are concatenated together and uudecoded by the unpack script.
However, you may be able to use an ftp manager to do the download. Tools like Windows Commander (http://www.ghisler.com/) have the ability to pick up and resume aborted ftp sessions, so you may want to check this out.
    Hope this helps,

  • New to Solaris, Some Samba and NTFS issues.

Hi Im new to solaris and trying out ZFS which has been great.
Im haivng some trouble that I cant find up to date info on so here goes:
First how do you mount an NTFS volume in Solaris 11 Express?
I need to access the data on an NTFS drive to populate my new ZFS tank.
Secondly, I have read only access on my samba shares from windows machines but my smb.conf looks right. a copy of my smb.conf will follow
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    # This is the main Samba configuration file. You should read the
    # smb.conf(5) manual page in order to understand the options listed
    # here. Samba has a huge number of configurable options (perhaps too
    # many!) most of which are not shown in this example
    # For a step to step guide on installing, configuring and using samba,
    # read the Samba-HOWTO-Collection. This may be obtained from:
    # Many working examples of smb.conf files can be found in the
    # Samba-Guide which is generated daily and can be downloaded from:
    # Any line which starts with a ; (semi-colon) or a # (hash)
    # is a comment and is ignored. In this example we will use a #
    # for commentry and a ; for parts of the config file that you
    # may wish to enable
    # NOTE: Whenever you modify this file you should run the command "testparm"
    # to check that you have not made any basic syntactic errors.

  • Linux Support in Solaris 10

So where is the LINUX support in the new Solaris 10?
I downloaded the free Software Express for Solaris x86 Platform (11/04) and installed it on a Dell 8600 P4 1.8 system. Fresh install on a new hard drive. Then I tried to install the new FireFox web browser for Linux. Received the following error: Cannot find /lib/ld-linux.so.2. I was logged in as Root. Ran a search of the entire system and found nothing using pattern ld-linux*.
    ED :(

So where is the LINUX support in the new Solaris 10?It does not exist (at least not outside of Sun).
There are rumours that it will be available in one of the Solaris
10 update releases. In case S10 FCS will be available in
january/february 2005, and the rumour are true, I'd expect that
the linux support will be available somewhere in june 2005 (??
    S10 Update 1) or october 2005 (?? S10 Update 2). (Pure
speculation be me, I don't know the schedule)

(non existing) linux compatibility layer in Solaris 10?
