Solaris 2.6 download cd

sorry for posting in this topic but I can't find other for my problem. I loast my installation cd's that came with my sparcstation ipx and sparcstation 5. the hard drives crashed on both of them first ipx and then ss5. on ipx I put a "new" hdd with debian and on ss5 I wantt to put solaris 2.6. I can't find it anywhere on sun site. I can put debian on ss5 but I want to stay with solaris.
Can anyone post a link or tell me from where to get it?

Solaris 2.6(SPARC) was never available as a download.
It was always a commercially produced media kit, of disks and books, that you needed to buy.
Downloadable CD images began with Solaris 8, if I recall correctly.
You will need to search other sources for what you need.
Perhaps an online auction site vould provide a used copy, such as Ebay ??

  • Solaris 8 DCA Download Won't Fit on Floppy

Holy Schmokes Gus, here's my prob. I downloaded
the Solaris 8 Device Configuration Assistant file
to drop on a floppy, but the file is like 19k too big.
My floppy has a formatted size of 1,457,664 bytes, but
    the file size is 1,474,560.
Has anyone else had this problem, or even better, does
anyone have an idea for a solution? I'm running
NT, but I'm assuming that has nothing to do with
the available disk space on a standard floppy.
    Thanks for any advice!

Yes, it's a floppy <b>image</b> including boot sector, fat, directory
    information, etc...
Do <b>not</b> write it as a file onto an empty MSDOS diskette. That
does not work (and it doesn't fit on the floppy :-)

  • OEM 12c for solaris (sparc) disk2 download failed

I am trying to download OEM 12c for solaris (sparc) from below link but disk 2 download failed after 80% with a error saying connection to server closed. I tried it couple of times with different browsers even from different machine but still same error. Disk 1 downloaded successfully but disk2 always failed right at 80% after 2.4 GB downloaded. It makes me belive that it is a problem related to source file or server. Anyone has similar experience and know how to get it solved?
    Appriciate for your help.

I can't download it either, and nor can any of my colleagues, using any browser. I am in UK, I suspect there's an issue with the Oracle mirrors, and that if you are downloading from US it probably works fine. Can someone from Oracle investigate this please?
We consistently get the same result: the downloaded file is: 2,732,571,489 bytes, rather than 3,430,333,041 bytes. It will not unzip as it is not a valid archive, error message:

  • 9.2.0.1 Solaris 32-bit download errors on disk2, disk3

When i download 9i, 9.2.0.1 for Solaris 32-bit then proceed to gunzip them, the first one is okay, the subsequent cpio files are not. Error:
gunzip: 92010Sol_Disk2.cpio.gz: invalid compressed data--crc error
i tried downloading them again then gunzipping them, still no luck. cpio -icd without gunzipping as suggested in the help page doesn't work.
    any help is appreciated, thanks!!!

Yes we are using Microsoft ISA as our firewall. We can download from OTN on PC's outside the firewall.
We can also successfully initiate downloads for other Oracle products from within our firewall, it just seems to be 'cpio.gz' zipped files that won't work!

We don't see an issue with these files. Are you getting a 'page not found' or is the page just hanging? Can you download anything from OTN?

Are there plans to have a Solaris x86 version downloadable on OTN? I am making the OS decision for a new development server. I would like it to be Solaris x86 but if Oracle is a no-go on Solaris x86, I will have to use Linux or... hate to say it... M$

  • Solaris 8 on Ultra 2 Enterprise installation problem...

I've a Sun Ultra 2 Enterprise with dual 200 Mhz UltraSPARC I and I tried to install Solaris 8, I download the binaries from Sun site and I burnt the CDs. Insert them in the CDROM drive, I type "boot cdrom", the installation started and it started also the grafical interface, the mouse doesn't work (the cursor still in the center of the screen) and appear a Console windows that asks if Solaris should use the slice c0t0d0s1 for swap, but the keybord (I use a type 5C keyboard and mouse) don't write, so I can't type "yes", but STOP+A works and on OPB I can write.
In the end, on the grafical interface of installation mouse doesn't work and I can't write (works only STOP, arrows, ecc...)
    Thanks, Paolo.

Well, to install the box you could type
    boot cdrom - install w
that will give you the textbased install GUI if you are booting from Solaris CD 1/2 . You might have to get a working mouse later, but this will at least install the OS for you.

  • New to Sun and Solaris

Hello all. I am currently a Sr. System Administrator right now for IBM AIX and SCO UNIX OS systems and I am wanting to start learning the Sun Solaris OS and getting familiar with that in hopes to become a System Administrator for those OS as well. I know zero about Solaris or Sun right now other than what I have read about.
Anybody have suggestions on how I start learning Sun Solaris? I see Solaris 10 is a free download for x86 platforms. I was going to install that on my laptop as a dual boot for Solaris 10 and my current laptop Windows XP OS. Would that be a good start in learning Sun Solaris system? Would anybody recommend taking the training courses that Sun provides or would that be a waste of time? Most of the AIX and SCO UNIX OS I come to know and master is from learning on my own and later on taking some advanced admin courses in that.
My company is thinking changing to Sun Solaris OS and servers to replace the SCO UNIX servers so I just wanted to know any suggestions on how to get familiar with where I can get to the point of install, setup, admin Solaris servers. Thanks!

    hi " mmitguy "
    while I can't comment on
in hopes to become a System Administrator for those OS as well
part but I would like to respond on dual boot part, as I've installed Solaris 10 with Win XP recently on a single HD of my Dell 9150 Desktop. First I backed up all my data & tried to resize (using Partition Magic 8) existing Win XP partition (there was only one) & create new partition but it failed & I had to re-install Win XP.
So I would recommend first to make sure that u have Win XP installation disk & driver / utility installation disk available. And after backing all ur data from ur laptop re-install Win XP & while re-installing create 2 partitions. Install Win XP & install display / graphics card, modem, network etc drivers.
Installing Solaris 10: I downloaded Solaris 10 11/06 from Sun & burnt a DVD & ran into lots of problems so i posted this:
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5137821&tstart=15
After that, some one from this same forum suggested to install Solaris Express Developers Edition 02/07 instead. ( http://developers.sun.com/solaris/downloads/solexpdev/download.jsp )
I re-installed Solaris, this time Dev Edition 02/07 and that was very, very simple compare to Solaris 10 11/06.
    Good Luck!

    pleaseeee help
    machine is ultra 10 , 4.3gb, 300 mhz , 256 mb ram from ebay

From your post I do not believe the CD drive is at fault. I believe the machine you wrote the CD is at fault. I would create another set of bootable CD's using a different machine with a CD-R/W drive. I would write the CD at 4 speed and try again. Some Ultra 10's have the slower 4 speed CD drive. What OBP is telling you is the CD appears to be 'blank' or 'corrupted', that's the cause for the 'bad magic number' error. If you can find a bootable Solaris Installation CD I'm sure it would boot just fine. Another thing you might look at, I've seen this be a problem with CD's, is the recordable surface. Are there any finger prints, smears etc? If so, clean the record surface then try booting the Ultra 10 again.

  • Installation Issue - Oracle9i on Solaris 9

    Greetings all,
What's the deal with 9i on Solaris 9 SPARC? I did a fresh install of Solaris 9 and downloaded the Solaris Version of 9i (64 Bit). All three compressed files came down fine.
Step 2, as noted below does nothing. After executing the 'cpio' command, nothing happens. Step 1 thought executes fine.
    Any thoughts..?
    Directions
    1. Uncompress the file using "gunzip". Eg.: "gunzip solaris64_9.2.0.1.0.Disk1.cpio.gz"
    2. Extract the file resulting from the step above using "cpio". Eg.: "cpio -idmv < (solaris64_9.2.0.1.0.Disk1.cpio"
    3. Repeat this for solaris64_9.2.0.1.0.Disk2.cpio.gz and solaris64_9.2.0.1.0.Disk3.cpio.gz
Important Note: Some browsers will uncompress the files but leave the extension the same (gz) when downloading. If the above steps do not work, try skipping step 1 and go directly to step 2 without changing the filename. Eg. "cpio -idmv < solaris64_9.2.0.1.0.Disk1.cpio.gz"

    Try this:
    E.g.
    cat solaris64_9.2.0.1.0.Disk1.cpio | cpio -idmv
    might work.

anyways suns site tell me to do this
    1. Click the [Launch] button and select "Preferences - System".
    2. In the following window, double click the "Hardware" icon.
    3. In the "Hardware" window, double click the "Network Card" icon.
(((I dont even see a hardwarwe icon there)))
all i se there is network settings configuration agent
nothing i do seems to work.can someone please help me
i ben told solkaris is the best thign out there
and i really wanna see why
    thank you so much

Once the steps below have completed successfully, as they
apparently have, then you have created the correct instructions
for compiling the drivers for your card.
    # cd /.../vfe-x.x.x
    # rm obj Makefile
    # ln -s Makefile.i386_gcc Makefile
    # ln -s i386 obj
Then you need to actually do the compilation.
Check to see if the 'make' command is in your PATH by
    running the following command
    # which make
If you get back an error message, it's not in your PATH.
If you get back a directory name, it is.
If it's not in your PATH,
    # grep -w make /var/sadm/install/contents
(The word 'none' in that file does not mean a missing
    file, BTW.
    # man pkgmap
will tell you what the none means -- I've forgotten.
The first field of each row of results is the path to the installed
    file. )
On my system, make is installed in /usr/ccs/bin, so I having cd'ed
into the directory of the Makefile (where you were ln -s'ing), I could
    either run
    # /usr/ccs/bin/make
or I could temporarily add the directory to my PATH, then run 'make'.
    # PATH = /usr/ccs/bin ; export PATH
    # make
Your make may be installed someplace else, so you'll have to adjust
    these examples to suit.
If make completes happily, then your system will have the drivers
    for your card installed.
To get the system to actually try to use the drivers needs one last
    step:
    # ifconfig -a
should only give you lo0, the 127.0.0.1 loopbak address
    # ifconfig -a plumb
tries to find all the network cards it can
    # ifconfig -a
should give you lo0 and another one (sorry, I don't know what your
    card shows up as).
If any of the steps above fail, please provide the commands you ran
and the exact errors messages (good thing you found the floppy! :-> ).
Once you can see two results from ifconfig -a, run the following command
    # sys-unconfig
This is the easy way to set up hostname, IP (DHCP), netmask & stuff
without hand-editing files -- it just runs the section of the installer
that would have run, had your card been detected in the first place.

  • Is Oracle 11.1.0.7 client for solaris relaesed or not?

Just want to know if 11.1.0.7 client for solaris is releaseed or not. I only can find 11.1.0.6 client for solaris on OTN download site. I plan to upgrade my server to 11.1.0.7.
    Thanks

11.1.0.7 is a patchset, not complete software. As usual patchsets are available on metalink, not on OTN. You need a valid account.

  • Upgrade from Solaris 5.4.8 to Solaris 10

    Hello
I have a SUN Ultra 10 box which I am trying to upgrade to v10. I have downloaded Solaris 10 software (for SPARC platforms) from the SUN website, burned the software onto a DVD -R and then tried to install it. When I get to the 'ok' prompt I type the 'boot cdrom' command and the following error message appears:
    'Unable to open device...'
My machine then automatically boots from the hard disk and loads the older Solaris version (5.4.8)
    Any ideas?

    Can't read disk label
    Can't open disk label package{code}
Classic symptoms of an improperly created DVD.
This next link was written for people to install Solaris on thsir PCs.
It's valid for your situation as well:

    There isn't a Solaris "v8" .

    Please help, thank you

Did you get any help with these problems? I am worried now beacuse my install files are nothing like these sizes. I unzipped a v1-a to 128 Kb.
Did you find some isntructions? Could you forward them to me because I cannot find any. Thank you.
    Mike
    Hello,
I'm trying to create the 3 iso files from the Solaris
8 Intel download and am having
a problem with the iso formed file sizes. Two of the
    iso files, the "install.iso"
and "v1.iso" are larger than 700 meg. (which is the
limit on my CDs) They are
944 meg and 729 meg respectively.
The sun intructions say to create the iso files from
the zipped files I downloads after
unzipping them. Well, combining 3 files each into
each iso file for the CD image is
    creating these large iso images.
    Is this the right procedure?
Also, do I even need the install.iso image as I see a
lot of talk on the newsgroups
about starting a fresh Solaris 8 install with CD 1
    ("v1.iso")?
    Thank you!
