Solaris 2.9 installation - Invisible text dialogs

Hi,
I've just started installing Solaris 2.9 and the problem is that all the installation dialogs are invisible. I can see the Blade 1000/2000 background image and I can also see the installation window frame and image but the text is either completely invisible or only visible after playing with the size of the window. As for the Next/Back buttons, they're completely invisible.
I had a somewhat similar problem when I tried (a long time ago) to use JDeveloper 9 with Java 1.4.2 but this is the opposite situation as it appears that the server comes with Java 1.4.0 installed.
Any ideas would be much appreciated.
Thank you,
Alan

Thanks for the response.
I've looked at most of the docs and release notes for 9i on Solaris. 2.8 is the latest version mentioned. You only see 2.9 mentioned in conjunction with 10i. Of course, this doesn't mean it won't work. Can anyone else confirm? Thanks again.

  • Text dialog box instead of Report tab

I'm using TS3.5 and customizing the LabVIEW version of the OI.  I would like to do two things.  (1) Make the Test Sequence and Test Execution tabs visible at all times.  Currently, the Execution tab (along with the Report tab) appear when "Test UUT" is selected or Executions is selected in the Listbox to the left of the SequenceView control. (2) I would like the report information to appear on the Sequence and Executions tabs as a Text Dialog box, to the right of the SequenceView control (that currently displays Step,Status,Flow Control).
    Can someone get me started?

    Hey Mr. Bean,
    1) There is a subvi called Configure Event Callbacks in the block diagram.  Inside of here there is a callback VI for the UIMessage handling.  It is called Page Change CBack.  Inside of there you'll see a subvi called Show Appropriate Tabs.  This is where the tabs are being set for which one is shown.  You can tweak this code to do what you expect.
    2) You can just copy and paste the ReportView control onto the execution Tab.  You will have to change some things in the block diagram to get it to look right.  Like the code in resize controls subvi so that your execution control doesn't overshadow the new reportview control  and you'll most likely have to make the new reportview control ConnectReportView.  You can see how this is done by looking at the other one.

  • Invisible text in acrobat forms

For a number of years and a number of different versions of Acrobat we have noted that a form filled out across platforms may not show the filled in text unless it is highlighted.  I've searched Google and the Adobe site and found a number of discussions on this and some "fixes".
We've been dealing with this for a number of years and have noted that the issue is with the default text color, black.  If you actually chose any other color (we usually use dark blue) when creating the fields the text will appear on all platforms and almost all viewers.  You can also "fix" filled out forms that have the invisible ink issue by using the advanced editing tools to highlight a field and then select all and then adjust properties to change the text color to anything but black (or white).
We have noted a correlation in the issue seeming to be when the form was created on one platform and then filled out on the other, aka Mac created but Windows filled out or vice versa. Ocassionally it will show up within a family (aka Windows) but where the base OS (XP vrs 7) or version of Acrobat (7 vrs X) is different from the one that originated the form.
Is there some other global setting that needs to be or possible can be adjusted to fix this?

Invisible text in Flash enabled web pages is a frustrating problem that is affecting Mac Users who play Farm Town (8.5+ million people on FaceBook) and probably many other games too.  See this forum as an example of the problem:  http://slashkey.com/forum/showthread.php?p=2531318
Before even reading this forum I did everything that appears here with no success and then everything listed in the referenced forum (above) with no success... but the following did fix the invisible text problem and I hope that it will help others too.
    1.  Drag the Font folder from the User directory to the trash  ie. ~/Library/Fonts.  (where ~ is = your User Account Name.)
Be careful; this is NOT the Font folder in the main library.
    2. Download Font Finagler v1.5 beta for Mac OS 6, and clean the font cashe files following the instructions for this free shareware app.
            http://homepage.mac.com/mdouma46/fontfinagler/
    3. Open the Font Book app which is a new app that is included with the Mac OS Snow Leopard (10.6). (Font Book is in the Applications folder.) Read the Help info for this app and then: Choose "All Fonts" in the left column and then choose "Select Duplicate Fonts" from the Edit menu. Disable or delete all duplicate fonts that this process identifies. After dealing with the duplicate fonts, select "All Fonts" again in the left column and choose "Validate Fonts" from the File Menu.  Deal with the results that it will display using the help file for guidance.  Interestingly, in my case there were no corrupt fonts in my Mac system, but the validation process identified more duplicate fonts that the previous step did not find. Again deal with the findings and disable or delete the duplicate fonts.
    4. Reboot your Mac and get on with using your Flash enabled web pages.  Duplicate fonts seems to be the problem that cause invisible text in Flash enabled web pages.
Hope this helps you... it worked for me.

  • Invisible Text in Flash Player Using Windows XP

I seem to have a problem with the Flash Player and invisible text. The Flash Player will load but there will be some buttons that are not labeled with text, so you don’t know what the buttons are, fill-in text boxes that have no text or text description, so you don’t know what to type in them, and drop-down lists that are blank, but there is supposed to be text to select from.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling FireFox, that did nothing; unistalled the Shockwave Flash Plug-in and reinstalled it, that did nothing; unistalled Flash and Shockwave standalone Players entirely, leaving only the Plug-in, nothing; uninstalled and reinstalled Flash Player standalone, nothing there either. I cannot seem to find a solution and every browser I have, the same problem occurs – invisible text.
I was reading on the Adobe Forum that there is this same issue sometimes with Mac and that the problem seems to be font incompatibility.
This happens with any browser I use – Firefox, Flock, PaleMoon, IE, Opera, Netscape.
My OS is Windows XP Home Edition
Main browser is FireFox version 3.6.17
Shockwave Flash Plug-in version is 10.3.183.7
I also have the Shockwave Player standalone version 11.6.1.629
Has anyone, using Windows, had this same problem? Is there any solution?
    Thanks for any advice.

  • Invisible text in Google Chromes Icloud Webmail

Suddenly I can ONLY see the text in some of my emails in my Iphones icloud-mail or if I use Explorer (webmail).
If I check it out on Iclouds WEBMAIL (Chrome) the message looks empty/blank?
Only from certain users though (to make it more complicated).
Started last week, and it doesnt matter which computer I use, (I've tried it on pc:s with different operating systems, bit not on a mac:s webmail, so far) but seems to work in other webreaders (explorer) but not google chrome and Firefox.
    It's kind of strange.

  • Preflight check for invisible text?

    Hello!
While there is an indicator for overset text in Indesign preflight, is it also possible to check for "invisible" text?
This will give a warning if objects, e.g. a picture or colored box, are placed over text (witout text wrap).
    Have a nice day
    Maggern

I suppose I shouldn't say that, since so many things actually are possible via scripting. I'd ask over in the ID scripting forum (InDesign Scripting). Seems like one approach might be to look for objects that fall within the geometric bounds of a text frame.

  • Invisible text - a different situation from the norm

    Hey fellow reader users,
I happened to run into a problem today when attempting to read an ebook (textbook) today; various parts of the text, (around 5 words per page) were all missing. When I copied and pasted from the pdf into word or notepad, I would see the "invisible text." It so happens I have adobe acrobat pro as well, but there is the same problem. If I (in acrobat), edit the missing text to a different font, it shows up, rather than being a color issue. If anyone has a workaround for this problem for reader or acrobat, it would be much appreciated!
    Thanks in advanced!

If you change the Zoom level, can you see the missing words?

  • PFIl missing solaris 10 core installation

    Dear Members!
I just installed Fresh Solaris 10 Core installation on X86 machine. Now I tried to configure IP filter but the /etc/ipf/pfil.ap is missing these packages installed
system SUNWipfr IP Filter utilities, (Root)
system SUNWipfu IP Filter utilities, (Usr)
please help me what should i do?
    Regards,
    Umar Draz

    Dear Tears,
    here is the answer:
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5288985&tstart=0
You don't need anymore to load pfil.ap, you need only to configure the /etc/ipf/ipf.conf and then restart the ipfilter service:
    svcadm disable -s ipfilter
    svcadm enable -s ipfilter
These will work only with new version of Solaris 10, and older Solaris 10 with 120012-14 Patch.

  • Solaris 10 x86 installation problem on ProLiant DL380..

I'm trying to put Sol10 b72 on a dual-proc ProLiant DL380 here, with the Compaq 5i array controller.
I have the Solaris 9 drivers from HP; they seem to work just fine for the installation.
The problem comes at the end of the first disc.
    Sidebar:
For one thing (and this drove me NUTS until I got lucky and caught it during a reboot), at the end of the install, on the console, it asks for the driver diskettes..again.
The problem is, it doesn't say this ANYWHERE else, only on the console..and if you're doing the installation in the X desktop, you just never know it. It doesn't write this to the xconsole window. I tried installing a good 5-6 times before, instead of hitting the power button out of frustration after the install just hung again, I actually opened up a terminal and typed 'reboot'..and caught the "Please insert the diskette and press Enter" as it killed X. If anyone at Sun is reading this..you may want to fix this, before someone gets very frustrated that their installations never seem to finish...
    End Sidebar.
So...I'm doing the console text install (otherwise you'll never see the message to insert the driver diskettes for the Broadcom NIC and the Compaq array), and sure enough, at the end of the install, it asks for the diskette. I pop in the diskette it's specifically asking for (the Compaq array diskette in this instance), and hit enter. It chugs for a second and then says it can't find the driver on the diskette.
Which is incorrect, because if it haden't found it on the diskette during the device configuration assistant phase during bootup, it wouldn't have even been able to install Solaris.
So..what's up? Anyone have any ideas why Solaris finds it one time but can't find it later? Is this a bug or problem in the installation script?
    Thanks,
    Greg

problem 1 is that it's looking for ../../s0.. Which I
    managed to
fake out by creating the dir in the same mount
    point.
Problem 2 is that it can't find .tmp_proto, which I
    must
concur with. I can't find that on any of the b72 cd
    images.
So, the setup_install_server fails. This seems to be the problem when you try to setup an install
server on a Solaris SPARC system for Solaris x86 clients, using
the Solaris 9 or Solaris 10/Express CD media.
There's a Solaris x86 UFS filesystem on slice 0 on the CD media,
and it's supposed to be mounted on the "s0" mount point,
    otherwise setup_install_server won't work. On a Solaris x86 box,
vold mounts it automatically for you: /cdrom/cdrom0/s2 is the
mount point for the platform independant ISO9660 part of the CD
media, /cdrom/cdrom0/s0 is the UFS root filesystem.
    Problem is that Solaris SPARC:
    - does not understand Solaris x86 disk labels
    - does not allow mounting x86 UFS filesystems
    (and vice versa).
AFAIK, Solaris 9 DVD media does not have this problem. I
guess the same will be true when Solaris 10 DVD media is
available in a few months. On the DVD media there's enough
free space to include an extra copy of the files in the ISO9660
    filesystem.

  • Solaris 10 x86 Installation on Toshiba Tecra M1

After a lot of trial and error, most of my own creation, I have successfully gotten Solaris 10 installed on my laptop!
My question relates to SMF and creating a "non-networked" milestone. Mainly, umm, what should I leave out from the "all" level? Or more importantly, what should I add to the "multi-user-server" milestone to enable X?
Some items that may help others doing S10 x86 installs:
    1) Tecra M1 needed "legacy floppy driver" support DISABLED in the Bios.
    2) Tecra M1 installation was done in text mode (option 4) and after installation ran /usr/X11/bin/xorgconfig with these settings -
    mouse=auto
    kbd=us, 104 key
    monitor=1280x1024@70hz
vert sync was option "1" (forgot the values)
    video card=27 (trident)
    Works great!
    3) Onboard gigabit NIC was found perfectly.
    4) Sound works great
    5) Touchpad or USB mouse work fine.
    6) Disk setup issues -
I had windows XP on the whole 40 gig disk. Purchased "Partition Commander" and resized XP down to 1/2 the disk. However it took the beginning of the disk (cylinder 1-20000). Solaris 10 would install but would lock up on subsequent reboots. Moving XP to the upper cylinder range fixed this issue (and giving Solaris cylinders 1-X.)
    7) Turn off Partition Commander before doing your solaris installation.
I've now installed S10 on dell, toshiba, HP and Sun computers. Main issues have been with peripheral ID and driver installations but other than Wireless Drivers, nothing has failed! Way to go SUN!!

  • No xwin on solaris 10 x86 installation

    hi,
is it true, when we install solaris 10 for x86, all we got just text based OS, no graphical menu or something ?
i've installed solaris 10 for x86(4 cd's) on my pc, it only came with text mode. is there something left ?
    thx
    -newbie-

By accident, I found out that the graphics settings are remembered apparently only if a plug-and-play monitor is present (that reports its properties to the graphics adapter).
Also, during installation, be sure to watch the screen at all times. The "kdmconfig" program is apparently run also during installation. There's a 4-second window (quite at the beginning of the installation) to view the graphics properties as detected by the installer. As soon as you see this screen, hit the SPACE key to stop the timer, then verify the settings if they match your monitor and graphics adapter type. If you have the manuals of these, it's easy to figure out if the settings are appropriate. Hit ESC to start kdmconfig, it'll go right into the XSun configuration (which is used ONLY by the installer with my version of Solaris 10). The installer automatically creates a XOrg configuration and switches to XOrg after reboot (if all went well).
After successful installation of Solaris 10 (when the graphical subsystem is working), you can run "xorgconfig" (in the X binary directory) to create a "xorg.conf" file that you can place in "/etc/X11/" directory. I'm not sure if the file is actually parsed, but you can edit it to change settings if necessary.
(BTW, it would be a good idea if "kdmconfig" would allow users to enter their own maximum/minimum/fixed horizontal and vertical frequencies, edit the mode table and set +/- hsync/vsync and interlace flags, and edit a monitor setting detected automatically. I was close to hair-pulling a couple of times. Also, the installer doesn't seem to save changes to the monitor setting.)

  • Solaris 11 x86 installer hangs on boot

I've downloaded both sol-11-1111-live-x86.iso and sol-11-1111-text-x86.iso, they both launch grub successfully, but thereafter they hang almost instantly.
This is a photo of my monitor when the installer has died:
I've installed ubunut and windows successfully on the machine, so the hardware should be ok.
Is there some way I can launch the installer in verbose mode or something to more accurately pinpoint what fails during the boot?
Any other suggestions that can get me closer to installing solaris are welcome as well.

I am getting this on a Dell SC440.
I thought it might be my lowly E2160 CPU, but I've just put in an Intel Q6600 (Core 2 Quad 2.4 GHz) and it still happens.
The server previously had Red Hat Linux 6 on it (actually I reinstalled it today to test it), but I booted from a DOS USB stick and used fdisk to remove all partitions, so that the 3x 80 GB SATA disks I have in there are all blank.
When I boot it goes through the initial screen with dots printing across and then displays a text line "Solaris Release 5.11 Version snv_151a 64-bit" then a copyright line and then it hangs.
I've tried both the live and text install media, with the same result.
I have used the same Solaris media to install onto another machine (an AMD powered Dell C521), and it is fine.
    Any ideas/pointers?

How does one safely recover from this fiasco and "retry"?
Typically this is a failed cleanup, not a failed install.
If you force the system off and then restart and boot into the Safe mode (hold down Shift on boot) you can usually clean up the install. When you reach the login screen, don't login, just select reboot. In most cases this is all that is necessary to "clean up" an install.
