  • Photoshop CS5 64-bit Crashing due to CoolType.dll

Spent 30 minutes on the phone with Adobe's fairly useless tech support, who asked me to do all the things I had already tried (delete prefs, turn of Font Preview, rename the scripting support plug-in, turn off OpenGL, etc.) in order to find out why my Photoshop CS5 64-bit on Windows 7 started crashing whenever I tried to use the text / type tool or opened a document with a type layer selected.
He thought he was done giving "support" when he said "Well, I suggest you just use the 32-bit version". When I reminded him that that didn't actually find / fix / solve the problem, he put me on hold again, then told me to use the System File Checker (sfc.exe) tool to check CoolType.dll, which is what's crashing Photoshop.
He told me that I would have to call Microsoft, because CoolType.dll is a system file and Adobe doesn't support those.
Hmm, I guess he didn't realize that CoolType.dll is an ADOBE system file that ADOBE put on my system.
Anyway...anybody know how to fix / replace CoolType.dll so that I can go back to using the 64-bit version of Photoshop CS5? I checked Adobe's website and couldn't find anyplace to download the current version.
    Thanks in advance!
    Gensy

I'm having this issue too.  Not sure if I have two issues or it's all related to this.  Most of the time, when I go to a folder to save an image, the program just dissapears with no error message at all and all my work is lost.  Anything I did during that session in PS is lost, including any modification of preferences, new actions made, etc.  I have tried reinstalling window 7 and CS5 and even on a clean system the problem occurs.  I have also tried uninstalling all non-essential fonts and deleting the font cache.  And, all the stuff you mentioned such as preferences in PS and dissabling  OpenGL, etc.  and have had three Microsoft tech sessions.  They don't see any evidence of the crash on my system so can't help with it.

  • Jrockit crashes due to outofmemory and illegal memory acces

    Hello,
We have been using jrmc-3.1.2-1.6.0 and lately we are seeing JVM crashes after every couple days. Note: We have been seeing these crashes recently , for last 1 year we did not see such crashes.
Following are different issues that we have seen over last few days:
    1. Crash due to illegal memory access
    2. Crash due to out of memory error
    3. Sever becoming unresponsive/Idle
For illegal memory access and out of memory crashes, there was jRockit dump file created and Dump file seems to be pointing at Jrockit libjvm.so module for the exception/crash.
    Any help would be appreciated!

From the command-line (-Dehcache.monitor.enabled=True) you are using some form of caching.
The out-of-memory occured as the JVM was unable the allocate an object: C Heap : 1 memory allocations have failed
Could you check how the live data set is going (or the memory leak detector)
Some concerns with regard to tune a JVM that runs a cache can be found here: http://middlewaremagic.com/weblogic/?p=7083
Note that the example given discusses Coherence, but can be adopted for another caching mechanism as well.

  • Upgrading Solaris 10 from 32-bit to 64-bit in a VirtualBox VM

    Hello,
I am running 32-bit Sol 10 u5 x86 as a guest in a Sun VirtualBox (Vbox) virtual machine on a 32-bit WinXP host with 64-bit VT-capable Xeon processors, and am considering upgrading Solaris 10 to 64-bit using the latest version of Vbox (2.0.0). After installing WinXP Professional x64 and the 64-bit version of Vbox, will I have to completely re-install Sol 10 to get it to run in 64-bit, or is there some way to get it to 64-bit without a re-install? The Vbox forums suggested that I post this question on a Solaris forum, as they don't know the answer.
They apparently also do not know if Windows XP x64 is a compatible host OS on which to run 64-bit guests. They list only Vista, Linux, and OpenSolaris as supported 64-bit host OSs. Has anyone used WinXP x64 as a host for Vbox 64-bit guests? Due to policy, Vista is not available to me on my system/network.
    Thank you...

The x86 installer will place both 32-bit and 64-bit code on the disk.
The loader fired by GRUB will attempt to detect the proper hardware and launch the correct kernel.
Other portions of the upgrade could conceivably cause a problem, but having the CPUs go from 32-bit only to 64-bit capable shouldn't be an issue. You don't have to make any changes.

  • Solaris 10 gnome session manager crashes on login

There are two Solaris 10 servers at work that I cannot log into. At the login screen I choose Options --> Session --> Java Desktop System, Release 3
and then try to log in. I get the following error message:
"The GNOME session manager (process XXXXX) has crashed due to a fatal error. (Segmentation Fault). When you close this dialog, all applications will close and your session will exit. Please save all your files before closing this dialog."
I was able to find one post on this error using google. It said that the user solved this problem by editing the LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable by moving /usr/local/lib to the beginning of the line. This didn't fix my problem. I logged in via ssh and double checked that the LD_LIBRARY_PATH change had saved.
Other people can log into the server just fine. Just not me. I even completely wiped my home directory. Anybody know where I can find a fix for this?

Just discovered that if one of the working users logs completely out, they cannot log back in. So this error affects everybody.

  • After upgrade to OSX Mavericks my 2009 MBP keeps crashing due to kernel panic

After upgrade to OSX Mavericks my 2009 MBP keeps crashing due to kernel panic (happens every 20 minutes or so). Please help me with this, it's getting very frustrating. Have tried disk utility, there were errors (file system was corrupted), the disk utility managed to repair the disk but the crashes continue.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I deleted some of the old stuff that showed up on the report (have removed virtual box long ago but some residual files were apparently left). It didn't help though. Will remove forticlient too as a test.

  • Compatible HP laser jet printer for EBS 12.0.6 on Solaris 10 SPARC 64 bit

    Hi,
We have our EBS 12.0.6 on Sun Solaris SPARC 64 bit. There are few hp printer (hp laserjet p2015dn) configured with our application and they are working fine.
Now we have to add one more printer but ( hp laserjet p2015dn) is not available now.
So please suggest the hp laserjet printer available for Solaris 10 Sparc 64 bit.
    Thanks,
    Sharad

We have our EBS 12.0.6 on Sun Solaris SPARC 64 bit. There are few hp printer (hp laserjet p2015dn) configured with our application and they are working fine.
Now we have to add one more printer but ( hp laserjet p2015dn) is not available now.
So please suggest the hp laserjet printer available for Solaris 10 Sparc 64 bit.You already have the same type of printer configured and it is working properly, so I would say it is supported.
What is the difference between the two printers configuration?
Can you print from the OS to the new printer?
What do you mean by "not available now"?
    Thanks,
    Hussein

  • My Vista system crashed due to a corrupted windows file. When I reformatted C:/ & reloaded firefox & tbird, my bookmarks were gone. I have an image of the drive , but I don't know how to recover them and get the data back where I can access it.

Vista system crashed due to a corrupted system file. The C drive was reformatted, and windows reloaded, along with the rest of my programs.
Before the drive was reformatted, an image was made of it on a USB drive to save all the data. Now I need to know how to get the Bookmarks back for Firefox, and the Address Book back for Thunderbird.
    Thanks

Thanks for the quick response. It worked very well, for both Firefox and Tbird.
One hitch, until I remembered: those are all hidden files, in hidden folders. I had a devil of a time finding the "roaming" folder, until I found out how to unhide everything. In years past, I used DOS for that kind of thing. Explorer is much less user-friendly. Now that I know how to do it, it's simple.
    Thanks again for the guidance

There is a note # 833665.1 on this which states "The issue is caused by the Host Storage metrics collected by the agent" and also a Patch 8477122 has been created for this issue.
However, there is nothing mention in the Note # 833665.1 about the following one message.
    Feb 2 04:07:34 ndc-m9k-2-r1 oracle[7332]: [ID 566193 user.error] n2a get_local_info: ioctl (get interface flags): Interrupted system call
    Can anyone please tell me
    1. whats the significance of the "oracle[7332]: [ID 566193 user.error] n2a get_local_info: ioctl (get interface flags): Interrupted system call" message in the OS log?
    2. Does this message get stops on applying of patch # 8477122 ?
    Thank you,
    Bhavin

There are a number of known issues with the 10g agent on Solaris and patches are available. I assume you are running the 10.2.0.5 agent since you reference patch 8477122. If this is a brand new agent installation i would start with applying the latest PSU update which contains many related fixes. If you are still getting the error after this, open an SR with Oracle Support with your specific error message.

Both are referencing cooltype.dll. I ran Font Doctor on all system and non-system fonts and found no errors. Booted without Extensis Suitcase loading. Nothing works. All 32 bit programs work fine. Any clues would be appreciated.

It does not necessarily mean a "corrupt" font, but can be a font that PrPro, and PS, cannot handle.
Though I have read that changes have been made, Open Office's DejaVu font would crash PrPro's Titler - every time. There are quite a few others. Font Dr, and similar utilities, will not see the font(s) as corrupt, but they are so poorly designed, that PrPro and PS cannot deal with them.
Though it can be a long, drawn out process, one can often zero in on the problem font(s), with a little work. This is accomplished by first defining the "System Fonts," and not touching them. Then, uninstall half of the remaining fonts, and testing PrPro and PS. If they launch fine, you know that somewhere in that list of fonts, the problem exists. If there is still a failure to launch, chances are good that the problem font(s) reside in that half, that are still installed. Note: because the problem still exists, does not guarantee that there are NOT problem fonts in that uninstalled group, so keep that in mind.
Repeat the proces, by uninstalling half of the remaining fonts and testing.
If necessary, repeat by removing half of the now remaining fonts and testing.
When you get to a point, where you are no longer getting problems, reinstall fonts, in small groups, testing in between. The smaller the groups, the easier it will be to pinpoint the problem font(s).
Keep notes on which fonts you are uninstalling and reinstalling, until you narrow it down to the problem font(s).
I would start by uninstalling any "free fonts," and then commercial, 3rd party fonts. A lot of free fonts are just poorly designed, and can cause issues, though they might work fine in some other programs.
I use a font manager, so that I only have ~ 350 fonts installed at one time, and then dynamically install fonts, as needed for Projects. That keeps my machine clean, and if, upon installation, I get a crash/hang, I know that at least one font in that Set is causing it. This helps, as my workstation has ~ 19,000 fonts on it, and some are free fonts, and many are from 3rd parties. Some are also very, very old.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS - one common cause for hangs on loading PrPro can be from VST's, used in Audio-editing. If you also have a lot of VST's, you could have two issues with two separate programs, i..e. PS hanging on fonts, and PrPro hanging on VST's. The results would be the same, but the causes could be different. That leads to even more work. For PrPro, also see this ARTICLE. If you get PS launching, but PrPro is still not functioning, drop by the PrPro Forum, and someone can help you there.

  • CS6 (64 bit) crashes 'Bad Pool Header'

    Hi All,
I just installed Photoshop CS6 International English and the 13_0_1_1 update.
Bridge standard and 64 bit both work. CS6 standard works. CS6 64 bit crashes with a blue screen 'Bad Pool Header'.
I reinstalled CS6 and the update. No change.
Windows and all drivers are up to date.
I have been using Photoshop for many years - starting with v 6. I have been using CS5 64 bit on this system since it came out with no problems. CS5 64 bit is still working with CS6 installed.
CS6 64 bit is the only program to have ever given me this error on any computer I have ever had.
    Custom built system:
    Asus motherboard M4A78-e
AMD Phenom 9950 quad 2.61 GHz
8 GB 1066 MHz Corsair ram
    Ati Radeon Sapphire Vapor-X HD4890 1GB memory
    Enermax Revolution 85+ power supply
    Zalman CPU 9950 fan
    Lian-Li PC60FN case
Windows xp professional x64 service pack 2.
Thank you for taking the time to read about my problem and thank you in advance for any suggestions.

    Dear Mylenium,
I can see from your profile you have been very active on this forum for many years and have undoubtedly helped too many people to count. However, your certainty and negativity belies my experience, both with CS 5 64 bit and with CS 6 Bridge 64 bit, as you can see from my initial post.
I took your suggestion and opened the Event Viewer. There were no logs to read. I looked in the properties of each of the log types in the events window and went to windows\system32\config\ just to be sure. Is there anything I can do to trigger creatitng an event log or should I look to finding the info in some other way or place?
Thank you for taking the time to respond.
    Sasha

  • 10.2.0.3 on solaris 9(Sparc 64 bit), patch 5257399 needed or not?

We are going to install oracle 10.2.0.3 on a Solaris 9 (Sparc 64 bit) box. According to Note 406472.1, Mandatory Patch 5752399 is needed for 10.2.0.3 on Solaris 64-bit and Filesystems Managed By Veritas or Solstice Disk Suite software. Our system is not on SAN, only local disks, so I'm sure we don't use veritas file system. But I'm not sure if we still use Solstice Disk Suite software. Sun said that in Solaris 9, Solstice Disk Suite is renamed to Solaris volume manager and it is bundled in Solaris 9. Does this mean Solaris 9 is using Solstice Disk Suite by default and we have to apply patch 5752399?
How can I verify which file manager we are using? (Our sys adm is not quite sure).
If we apply the patch no matter we really need it or not, what impact to the system?
    Please advise. Thanks!

I found by issue "mount -v" that our disk slices are
UFS type. So we don't need apply patch 5257399,

  • Solaris 8 (32/64-bit) for Hyperion Essbase OLAP Server Release 6.5.4

Dear all, Do anyone know the difference between and impact on Solaris 8 (32/64-bit) for Hyperion Essbase OLAP Server Release 6.5.4?Thanks for your help!Regards,Zero Lai

I do not think wired will even work with the 6.x runtimes. Your only real option is to put off the move untill you can manage the a6.5 upgrade.

  • Xvfb on Solaris 8 (SPARC 32 bit)

    Hello,
We need to run an Oracle server that needs a Virtual Frame Buffer. We need to set DISPLAY variable set on the system. Opening an xhost is not a solution for us because it is not in the security policy.
Any pointers or docs are appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,

An .iso image can be downloaded from Oracle's website. You can then create a VM and can install Solaris 10 using it's .iso image.
    Download from: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/solaris10/downloads/index.html
    Hope this will help.

Did you actually read the original post?
That person is confused on what they want or need or think is possible.
Wait until they respond with a more complete description before throwing out a response that can only confuse them more.
    They said:
Can someone please let me know the download link from where i can download Solaris 10 Sparc - 32 bit ?which does not exist and has NEVER existed as a free download.
    Then they said:
As I have to install this using VMware 7 workstation on 32 bit windows 7A Solaris release for SPARC will never run on a Windows box.
