Solaris 7 and System Commander

I am trying to add Solaris 7 to the 2nd ide drive on a Linux/Win98 box using System Commander but it will not let me install on the second drive. How do I do this??

hi nodiseos
I am using a dell dimension 4100 machine. I already have win2000,win98 in the primary drive(10GB) using using 'System Commander' as boot manager to select the OS( to boot into).
I installed slave disk(30GB-IBM)and have been trying with all the possibilities to get the solaris(version-6/00)installed on the slave disk. I used "Solaris 8 Software 1/2" CD. I was not able to get solaris installed on second(slave) disk evenwitth the single user mode.
Looking for ur help badly if u have got any result.

  • Profiles, Exports and SYSTEM command to DROP PROFILE

    Good Day,
    My first question is if Oracle docs state that PROFILES are NON-SCHEMA objects are they automatically exported with the schema of a user if he is assigned that PROFILE?
    If not how do you export a profile with a specific if he is NOT assigned a profile?
    Second question is I have this procedure in a package:
    PROCEDURE createPasswordProfile
    IS
    stmt2 VARCHAR2(2000) :=
    'CREATE PROFILE myprofile LIMIT '||
    'SESSIONS_PER_USER 6 '||
    ..... other LIMITS...
    BEGIN
    BEGIN
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'DROP PROFILE myprofile';
    COMMIT;
    EXCEPTION
    WHEN others THEN
    NULL;
    END;
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE stmt2;
    END;
    Why would the DROP PROFILE statement not work if it is being executed by SYS?

    Hello Keith
    impossible to locate it !
    It's seems that it is included in a generic list of profiles or imported from the vga port when i plug !
    I can't beleive it !

  • System_Exec and Open System Command Pipe hangs in Solaris

    I'm using LV 7.1.1 on Solaris and I'm having major problems with the System Exec function in combination with Open System Command Pipe.
    1. The program has to run different stuff in parallel but the System Exec won't run in parallel with Open System Command Pipe. It immediately hangs and neither function ever returns. LabVIEW must be killed.
    2. After executing Open System Command Pipe, stopping the program and then executing a System Exec, that too hangs. The external script called by Open System Command Pipe is no longer running but obviously LV leaves something behind anyway. Close Pipe doesn't seem to clean up everything. Again, LabVIEW must be killed.
    3. Also, regardless of any System Exec call, the first time Open System Command Pipe and Read Pipe is executed it takes a very long time to get the result. After stopping the program and restarting it, it's much faster.
    Has anyone else experienced these problems?

    I'm having the same difficulties... tried many things, with no luck...

  • Dual Boot - Solaris 8 intel under system commander

    I am interesting in installing Solaris 8 for intel on my PC but need to keep my existing operating environments (98 and NT). I would like to install solaris on either a spare partition or spare disk drive.
    Has anyone managed to configure solaris 8 to boot from system commander deluxe. I know it is possible with Solaris 7 but I have no documentation on for Solaris 8. I cant seem to get through to the System Commander people.

  • Boot bootldr, boot bootstrap and boot system command?

    Hello All,
    Could anyone please explain me what the “boot bootldr” and “boot bootstrap” are? And how do they different from the “boot system” command?
    I did not understand the description of these commands in the Cisco command reference document.
    Thanks a lot,
    Nitass

    Hi Nitass.
    Boot system is used to specify the system image that loads at startup i.e the full IOS image that system will load.
    boot bootldr command is used to specified a boot loader image which is an image with only booting featues and few limited commands, this image is like a safe mode for the system where we fall back on if system is unable to boot from main image.
    bootstrap is the minimum software that is required to recongnize and run the hardware. It comes both in software and hardwares with the software.Like in cat 6K on Sup's is a special hardware with an image on it.

  • SSH Differences between Solaris 9 and Solaris 10

    I use public key authentication when connecting via SSH but have noticed a difference between Solaris 9 and Solaris 10 and wondered if it's an environment setup issue. I keep my keys in $HOME/.ssh
    When connecting from Solaris 9 I can provide an identity file without a path regardless of the directory that I'm in e.g.
    ssh -i my_identity_file user@hostnameThe above works even if I'm not in the $HOME/.ssh directory. But when using the same from Solaris 10 I get the following error:
    Warning: Identity file my_identity_file does not exist.If I run the command from $HOME/.ssh on Solaris 10 it connects fine, and if I pass in the path like so it works fine:
    ssh -i $HOME/.ssh/my_identity_file user@hostnameIs there a setting specific to SSH somewhere as I can't see anything in my environment that's different between the two systems. There's certainly no entry in $PATH that points to $HOME/.ssh. How could I get SSH to work on Solaris 10 by just providing the identity file name and not the full path
    Regards
    Rich

    It's not explicitly defined in /etc/ssh/ssh_config, so I'm assuming it would be using the default which is ~/.ssh/id_dsa.
    But surely that's irrelevant if I'm using the -i switch to provide the identity file?
    Remember the problem here is that I have to provide a full path to the identity file, whereas before just the filename would do.

  • Solaris containers and Fiber connection

    Hi guys,
    I have sucsessfully migrated solaris 8 system to solaris 10 containers. and also mounted some RAID enabled partition on non global zone without any issue. now i need to connect a fiber channel to my host OS (solaris 10) and add the SAN partition to my container (solaris 8). if i run cfgadm command it says cfgadm: Library error: Device library initialize failed: Invalid argument.
    there are some other ways to mount the SAN (mount the SAN on host and export the partition to container). but i need the above method . is it possible to mount the SAN partition from the non-global zone ? if so how should i do it .
    thanks,
    Tharanga

    As far as i know you can't give the non-global zones the required permissions which is needed to mount a FC LUN directly into the non-global zone.
    I think you have to mount the LUN in the global zones, and then loop-back-mount them into the non-global zone.

  • Running System commands using Runtime.exec()

    I'm trying to run an example from "The Java Programming Language" book by Arnold, Gosling and Holmes. I'm trying to run a system level command and get the results. The code looks like:
    public static String[] runCommand(String cmd) {
    String[] outputData= null;
    String[] cmdArray = {"/usr/bin/ls", "-l", "/tmp"};
    try {
    Process child = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(cmdArray);
    InputStream in = child.getInputStream();
    InputStreamReader reader = new InputStreamReader(output);
    BufferedReader = new BufferedReader(reader);
    // read the commands output
    int counter = 0;
    String line;
    while ((line = input.readLine()) != null)
    outputData[counter++]= line;
    if (child.waitFor() != 0){  // error when it's not 0
    System.out.println("Couldn't run the command.");
    System.out.println("It produced the following error message : " + child.exitValue());
    outputData = null;
    } catch (Exception e){
    System.out.println("It got here!");
    System.out.println("It produced the following error message : " + e.getMessage());
    outputData = null;
    return outputData;
    It gets to the while line, trys to run the input.readLine() and kicks out the exception that looks like:
    It got here!
    It produced the following error message : null
    I know it gets to the input.readLine() because I had a whole lot more try blocks in there, but for simplicity left it out (so it look like the code in the book, which I tried originally). When I run the same command from the command line (on our Sun Solaris 2.8 system) I get results back. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi, duffymo, hope you can help me. Consider this servlet code:

  • Init 5 doesn't shutdown Solaris 8 Sparc system

    Hi,
    I am trying to bring down the Solaris 8 Sparc system using the command # init 5 but it doesn't do anything whereas the command # shutdown brings down the system. What could be the problem of init 5 command not functioning.
    Thanks & Regards

    ok, i should have caught this earlier
    looks like, your program is not able to start because of not finding a symbol called __res_state. This symbol is found in /usr/lib/libresolv.so.2
    the most likely reason is that u probably do not have some required patches installed
    if u r open to install the sun patch cluster , then that is probably the best way to go
    visit the below url
    http://sunsolve.sun.com/pub-cgi/show.pl?target=patches/patch-access
    and look for solaris 9 (around 180 mb of size) download this patch cluster and install them in single user mode
    btw, when u have installed the jes version of web server,it is already running only in 32 bit.
    hope this helps

    i am trying to run system command(windows) in java. I am getting
    exception as java.io.IOException: CreateProcess: c:\dir
    Please Help.
    Here is the code
    import java.io.*;
    public class RunCommand {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
    try
    //run dir command
    Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("c:\\dir");
    BufferedReader stdInput=new BufferedReader(new
    InputStreamReader(p.getInputStream()));
    BufferedReader stdError =new BufferedReader(new
    InputStreamReader(p.getErrorStream()));
    //read the output
    System.out.println("here is the output:\n");
    while((s=stdInput.readLine())!=null){
    System.out.println(s);
    System.out.println("here is the error if any");
    while((s=stdError.readLine())!=null){
    System.out.println(s);
    System.exit(0);
    }//end try
    catch (IOException e)
    System.out.println("exception Happened" );
    e.printStackTrace();
    System.exit(-1);

    It works fine if you replaceProcess p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("c:\\dir");withProcess p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("cmd /c dir");And don't forget to define your s variable.

  • How to Run Operating System Command Before/After Message Processing SAP PI

    Hi,
    We are trying to execute multiple commands via "Operating System Command Before/After Message Processing".
    When we use single command say for example cp or mv (copy or move) the commands get executed fine.
    eg: cp %F /var/opt/data/outbound/Test/Dummy.txt
    /this works fine/
    when we club commands together or try to redirect the outputs of commands, none of the commands get executed.
    eg:
    cp %F /var/opt/data/outbound/Test/Dummy.txt ; rm %F
    or
    wc -l %F > /var/opt/data/outbound/Test/Dummy.txt
    Is it possible to execute multiple commands or redirect the output  of commands without using a shell script? The PI server we are working on iis hosted on UNIX environment.

    Hi Harleen,
    try like this
    cp %F /var/opt/data/outbound/Test/Dummy.txt ; rm %F
    instead of semicolon try this
    (1) &
    command1 & command2
    Execute Command1 and then execute Command2
    (2) &&
    command1 && command2
    Runs the command2 only when command1 doesn't Complete successfully
    (3) ||
    command1 || command2
    Runs the second command if the first command had an error
    (4) ()
    (command1 || command2) || (command3 & command4)
    Defines the order in which commands are to be executed

  • Tiger Disk Utility filled up target AND system disk, CANNOT reboot!

    I used Apple Disk utility to securely erase free space on a target drive on my laptop. Disk Utility filled both my target disk and system disk (system disk was not even specified in the erase procedure). Both disks have ZERO bytes free. The System disk will NOT startup and I cannot use DiskWarrior to rebuild the directory cuz there is no space. Tried using terminal to rm temp files, but it did not see the system disk.
    *Problem Path:*
    1) Laptop (Leopard OS X current version) video stopped working. Likely known problem with Graphics card.
    2) Connected G5 (Tiger) to Laptop via Firewire with Laptop working in Target Disk mode (data only mode).
    3) Laptop disk showed up as a disk volume on G5.
    4) Used Apple disk utility on Tiger G5 to securely erase FREE disk space on Laptop disk drive B4 taking it in to get repairs. Amount to be securely erased was appr 65 to 70 GB.
    5) Left G5 Tiger disk utility to work overnight... had to interrupt next day. Restarted..
    6) Next day, the G5 disk utility said that it would be an est. 97 hours to complete. Stopped process.
    7) Both target disk and system disk showed that 0 bytes (yes, ZERO bytes free) were free on either drive.
    8) Attempted to restart with literature saying that you can restart Disk Utility as though it would delete temp files and start again. System could not be found (folder/face/folder/face showed on the screen)
    *Attempted Solution:* (DW ~ DiskWarrior 4)
    1) Started system up using DW CD. System disk came up as unknown.
    2) Used Disk Warrior to rebuild directory on disk, but I believe that there is NO space at all. Disk Warrior took a very long time...more than an hour.
    3) Terminated DW (it was still verifying directory)
    4) Restarted system from Tiger install.
    5) Attempted to use Tiger Disk Utility to verify system disk (System still can see it, but won't mount it-- name is now disk1s3 or something like that). Disk Utility said that disk directory had problems and needed to be repaired. Ran the repair, but Disk Utility said that it could not be repaired.
    6) Quit Disk Utility and entered into the terminal to see if I could access the disk through unix commands. Access volumes from root. Only the other disk on the system showed up, not the system disk. So attempt to delete temporary files that MAY have been created by Disk Utility could not be done.
    7) Restarted system using DW. Drive showed up as Unknown. Clicked on [Apple key] rebuild to do scavenge function. Left it for two hours. Little to no change. Left it to work all night.
    HELP!
    Will DiskWarrior use other volume on system or memory to save off or rebuild directory of bad drive? Anyone know of a utility that can help?
    ANY HELP you can provide would be GREATLY appreciated. I have been put behind on research in my graduate studies and am in a terrible situation in now BOTH of my systems are inaccessible.

    Hello HB3, and a warm welcome to the forums!
    8) Attempted to restart with literature saying that you can restart Disk Utility as though it would delete temp files and start again. System could not be found (folder/face/folder/face showed on the screen)
    You really shouldn't use a lower OSes DU to work on a higher one.
    2) Used Disk Warrior to rebuild directory on disk, but I believe that there is NO space at all. Disk Warrior took a very long time...more than an hour.
    What version of DW?
    Anyone know of a utility that can help?
    If DiskWarrior can't fix it, you might try Data Rescue II...
    http://www.alsoft.com/DiskWarrior/
    http://www.prosofteng.com/products/data_rescue.php
    (Has a Free Demo to see if it could or not, but you'll need another drive to recover to).
    Or FileSalvage...
    http://www.subrosasoft.com/OSXSoftware/index.php?%20mainpage=product_info&productsid=1
    to recover what you can, both can work when Disks are unmountable.
