Solaris 8 0 FTP

A windows applications does a FTP get from a folder on a Sun box with Solaris 8. It works fine. Upon installing the 8 patches (approx 150), the FTP connections now keeps dropping.
On restarting the NT application,a new FTP connection is established,but drops out again and again.
There is nothing in /var/adm/messages.
Any clues?

Hi Solaris 8 is supported for Sparc Station 5 machines and should install just fine. However Solaris 8 is not supported on 4c architecture systems like the Sparc Station 1's and 2's...etc.
You can find a list of supported systems at the following URL:
http://www.sun.com/products-n-solutions/hardware/docs/pdf/806-2221-10.pdf
Skip ahead to page 25 if you are looking just for supported machines.

  • FTP from Solaris 10 to Windows Hangs on some PDF files

    Documents containing images and Eastern European characters have been PDF'd on Windows machines (XP) using various versions of Adobe Acrobat (5 and 8 certainly), and are uploaded to Web Serving apps running on Solaris 10 systems. Retrieval of the PDF of certain of these documents stalls and never completes. Using standard FTP services, the same condition occurs. FTPing the file from Windows to Solaris has no problem. The return journey fails. The original Word documents that were used to create the PDFs transfer without errors. It appears that somethin inside the PDF is causing a problem with the Solaris FTP server. Is this a known problem? Is there a known workaround?

    The FTP from the Solaris system to a Windows system fails - just a simple file transfer. It first manifested itself when trying to retrieve from within a Browser, even when directing the Browser to save the file - both IE6 and Firefox 3.0. Investigation showed the same behavior using Windows FTP and FileZilla from XP systems. The problem appears to be at the Solaris FTP server which just hangs at a certain point through the transfer. Filezilla times out and tries the transfer again. After two failures it abandons the transfer. Browser file transfers just stall. We suspect this is caused by some sequence within the file that affects the server.

  • Using chmod from FTP

    I'm 'installing' files using FTP.
    Some executable files require the 'execute' bit to be set.
    How can I invode chmod from Sun Solaris FTP - I get the message "invalid command" now.

    Hi
    Solaris 2.6 and onwards provide a /etc/default/ftpd file that can be
    used to set the umask value for the ftp session. But unfortunately,
    you still can not set the execute permissions directly due to security
    reasons. i.e even if you have the "source" file with rwxrwxrwx
    permissions and specify a UMASK value of 000 in /etc/default/ftpd,
    you will only get the remote file permissions as rw-rw-rw-.
    To accomplish the "execute" bit setting, you will have to use the
    public domain software wu-ftpd which is available for download from

    I built initpcic (XIGSpcic) packages that install on Solaris 10 x86, however it still doesn't plumb the underlying 3c589 card.

  • Backup to different OS?

    Hi,
    We have a database running on AIX OS, but there is not enough space on this server for backup.
    I want to do an on_line backup, and ftp the backup files to other server which is running on solaris.
    AIX---ftp ---> Solaris.
    Do you think the backup in solaris works for recovery or not?

    Since you're storing the files there, it should be OK.I was wondering if the Solaris OS changed the format in the contents of files?
    because we use
    AIX---ftp backup to --> Solaris
    then
    Solaris ---ftp restore back --> AIX

  • IPSec tunnel mode vs self-encapsulation ESP

    Hello
    I need to develop some server application which should communicate with thousands of independent external clients through IPSec in tunnel mode.
    Configuration of IPSec must be done dynamically from application.
    There is a requirement to have the same source/destination IP address in the inner and in outer IP headers, tunnel must start and ends within the server and within each client.
    Is there any way to activate IPSec in tunnel mode without tunnel configuration?
    In Solaris documents I see that there is possibility to activate self-encapsulation ESP mode.
    Is this mode is the same as IPSec in tunnel mode?
    If answer is yes, then is it possible to activate this mode system-wide, but not per-socket?
    Thanks.

    Additionally to some proprietary data connections we need to provide FTP server for clients over these IPSec connections.
    Standard Solaris ftp server will be used.
    Will IPSec with ESP in transport mode over NAT give us such possibility?
    As far as I know FTP encapsulates IP addresses during it's work, so we think that only ESP tunnelling can provide normal working of FTP over NAT.
    Is it possible to configure such kind of tunnel in Solaris as described in my first mail?
    "There is a requirement to have the same source/destination IP address in the inner and in outer IP headers, tunnel must start and ends within the server and within each client."
    Thanks

  • Show int vlan x

    This is all I get when I do a show int vlan 13. I would like to see the other coutners to prove that I am forceing traffic through that interface and it is not going through the router that I want to shut off. I was told it is because of the F2 card N7K-F248XP-25. Show int vlan x counters shows nothing. Is there any way around this. Ho do the engineers proove that a vlan interface is dropping packets or needs to have buffers tweeked when they can't even see if there are any drops on the interface. I have a number of interfaaces with the same vlans on them so i can't really look at a interface to see if it is an issue for a vlan. There is a big diffrence between a show int vlan and a show int e3/1

  • FTP adapter  (10.1.3.3) on Solaris

    Hi,
    I am trying to setup ftp adapter (10.1.3.3) on solaris with sftp set to true. I made all the necessary configuration changes to $ORACLE_HOME/j2ee/oc4j_soa/application-deployments/default/FtpAdapter/oc4j-ra.xml. Following properties are updated in this file.
    <config-property name="host" value="fpt2000.odc.vzwcorp.com"/>
    <config-property name="port" value="22"/>
    <config-property name="username" value="rajarka"/>
    <config-property name="password" value="welcome1"/>
    <config-property name="useSftp" value="true"/>
    Restarted the app. server. I created a bpel process using this adapter and deployed it suncessfully on the server. Everything worked fine as expected. As soon as I dropped the file in the source directory, it was picked and moved to destination directory. After couple of successful testing, I added another adapter configuration to the file and restarted the server. Now the ftp sample bpel process does not work any more. I get the following error.

  • How to enable FTP service in Solaris 10

    Hello, Everybody
    I installed my first Solaris 10 today, but I have a problem with FTP process, I found I could not ftp to my new server from other equipments. It seems that FTP service is disabled by default.
    Could you any guy tell me how to enable FTP in Solaris 10?
    Thanks in advance.

    Since the OS is Solaris 10, how about using SMF's svcadm tool to enable/disable ftp service.
    eg.,
    # svcadm disable /network/ftp
    # ftp localhost
    ftp: connect to address 127.0.0.1: Connection refused
    Trying ::1...
    ftp: connect: Network is unreachable
    ftp> bye
    # svcadm enable /network/ftp
    # ftp localhost
    Connected to localhost.

  • Getting FTP to work in Solaris 10, RE: config vs. firewall

    We've recently migrated from a clustered Solaris 9 environment to Solaris 10 zones.
    One issue that keeps coming up is the inability to ftp anywhere except within zones running on the same server. I can ftp between those zones without any problem.
    Trying to ftp anywhere else, i.e. to a zone on another server node or to any other ftp server, I encounter one of two problems, either I don't get a login prompt at all, which leads me to think there's a firewall issue, or I can login fine, but when I issue any command, nothing happens, and upon ctrl-x'ing out I see:
    "421 Service not available, remote server has closed connection"
    I've seen a lot of totally useless stuff on the web that doesn't seem to apply to Solaris 10. I know there's a bunch of ftp configuration files, but we haven't touched them.
    ftpd is running with the -a switch, but TCP Wrappers is set to false. I can ftp TO this server from a remote server as long as the firewall has been configured for the IP.
    To summarize.
    Zone A on Server A > Zone B on Server A : No problem
    Zone A on Server A > Zone B on Server B: Problem
    If anyone can shed any light on this problem, that would be great.

    Does perl work for ~/andrew?  You have ExecCGI set for /home/andrew/public_html and not /home/*/public_html:
    <Directory "/home/andrew/public_html">
            Options Indexes FollowSymLinks ExecCGI
            AllowOverride None
            Order allow,deny
            Allow from all
    </Directory>
    Are permissions set to 755 so that the http user can run them?  Have you checked apache's error log?

  • Ftp and telnet to Solaris 8/9

    Hi,
    When I telnet or ftp to a Unix machine running Solaris 8 or 9, it usually takes about 3 minutes to give me the login prompt, does anyone know why it takes so long to get the prompt?
    Thanks!
    Joseph

    Look in your /etc/nsswitch.conf file. This shows the order in which your system resolves IP addresses. Specifically, the "hosts" line.
    If you are using dns, use this for the hosts entry:
    hosts: files dns
    If you are not using dns, use this line:
    hosts: files
    Also, make sure your dns is working correctly (if you are using it).
    Populate your /etc/resolv.conf file with the following info:
    domain yourdomain.com
    nameserver IP.OF.DNS.SERVER
    nameserver IP.OF.ANOTHER.DNS
    Test it out with the nslookup command. For example:
    # nslookup www.sun.com
    The response should look something like this:
    Server: DNS1-INTRANET.yourdomain.com
    Address: IP.OF.DNS.SERVER
    Name: www.sun.com
    Address: 64.124.140.199

    I tried all kinds of things to get gss to run, but I finally realized that
    it was really ifconfig that was the problem. The system has two
    network interfaces, and during installation I gave both of them
    a name. However, hme1 was not really connected to anything.
    All I did to get it to work was
    # cd /etc
    # mv hostname.hme1 no.hme1
    After that, I rebooted, and everything came up OK. I don't know
    if the original problem was the same, but this solved my problem.

  • Create FTP account for user in Solaris 10

    Hi,
    I am new to Solaris and I need to create a n FTP account so user can have access to certain folder ie /opt/www/docs/newfiles/ (only for upload or download).
    user should not be able to go up the defined folder and have access to upper folders.
    I tried # useradd -d /opt/www/docs/newfiles/ testuser and then # passwd testuser but this user can navigate up and also can telnet to server.
    Please help me to fix the problem. I may not even doing the right thing.
    Thanks

    Hi.
    You can configure the /etc/ftpd/ftpaccess file, to do that, an a lot of things more.
    Check ftpaccess man page.
    Don´t forget restart your ftp service when you made changes to this file.
    For example, modify the following lines, previos backup of the file:
    Declare a guestuser:
    guestuser testuser
    The
    user's home directory must be set up exactly as
    anonymous FTP would be. The home directory field of the
    passwd entry is divided into two directories. The first
    field is the root directory that will be the argument to
    the chroot(2) call. The second field is the user's home
    directory, relative to the root directory. Use a "/./"
    to separate the two fields. For example, the following
    is the real entry in /etc/passwd:
    testuser:x:100:92:Guest FTP:/opt/www/docs/./newfiles:/bin/false
    Check for permission capabilities.
    The following permission capabilities are supported
    chmod yes|no typelist
    delete yes|no typelist
    overwrite yes|no typelist
    rename yes|no typelist
    umask yes|no typelist
    Example:
    delete yes guestusers
    Define a directory with dirglob that permits or denies uploads.
    upload absolute [class=classname]... [-]
    root-dir dirglob yes|no owner group mode
    dirs [d_mode]
    Example:
    upload class=guestuser * /opt/www/docs/newfiles yes testuser nodirs

    For the ftp user,only folder he can see is the folder where the drop takes place.
    But the ftp is calling a CWD / which is making the folder to go a folder backwards and the user do not have access to that folder and hence we get FTP error.
    The Transfer code did not change at all.
    This is what happens when a user does ftp manually from the source server to Destination server.

    We do not know how to set the ASCII mode for JMS ConnectionFactory.
    Anyone has any idea how to resolve this issue?This is a showstopper and very critical for our project.
