Solaris 8: 32/64-bit installation

Could anybody give me any ideas whether it is necessary to include 64-bit support during the installation?
Thanks.
LL

DS 5.2 supports a larger cash size on Sol 64 bits.
That could give you a performance advantage if you have a large LDAP directory.

  • How to find out if the Oracle is a 64 or 32-bit installation

    Hi,
I have a customer who has a 64-bit enabled Solaris 8 machine with an Oracle installed on it.
Is there a simple and quick way to find if the installed Oracle is 64 or 32-bit installation. Something like a v$ table.
    Thanks,
    Tal ([email protected]).

    Hi,
if the database is running, start a sqlplus session. You will see in the banner something like '64Bit Production' (for 64-bit) or only 'Production' for 32-bit. Alternatively, especially if the database is not running, go to $ORACLE_HOME/bin and type 'file oracle'. The returning strings shows either 32-bit or 64-bit.

  • 64 bit or 32 bit installation of oracle 9i - which one?

hi there - i have a sun solaris ultra 60 with 2gb ram and 32gb hdd and solaris 9-64bit on it. should i install oracle 9i 32 bit or 64 bit? Also after trying to install the 32 bit server version of Oracle 9i on the same machine we noticed a severe decrease in speed on the server but uptime doesnt show any processes taking over the machine. Any ideas? has it got anything to do with 32 bit 64 bit installation distributions for either oracle or solaris??
    thanks in advance guys

If you have an instance running on it, you can query the v$version view. This will give your the 32/64 bit info.
    SQL> select * From v$version;

  • Upgrading Solaris 10 from 32-bit to 64-bit in a VirtualBox VM

    Hello,
I am running 32-bit Sol 10 u5 x86 as a guest in a Sun VirtualBox (Vbox) virtual machine on a 32-bit WinXP host with 64-bit VT-capable Xeon processors, and am considering upgrading Solaris 10 to 64-bit using the latest version of Vbox (2.0.0). After installing WinXP Professional x64 and the 64-bit version of Vbox, will I have to completely re-install Sol 10 to get it to run in 64-bit, or is there some way to get it to 64-bit without a re-install? The Vbox forums suggested that I post this question on a Solaris forum, as they don't know the answer.
They apparently also do not know if Windows XP x64 is a compatible host OS on which to run 64-bit guests. They list only Vista, Linux, and OpenSolaris as supported 64-bit host OSs. Has anyone used WinXP x64 as a host for Vbox 64-bit guests? Due to policy, Vista is not available to me on my system/network.
    Thank you...

The x86 installer will place both 32-bit and 64-bit code on the disk.
The loader fired by GRUB will attempt to detect the proper hardware and launch the correct kernel.
Other portions of the upgrade could conceivably cause a problem, but having the CPUs go from 32-bit only to 64-bit capable shouldn't be an issue. You don't have to make any changes.

There are a number of known issues with the 10g agent on Solaris and patches are available. I assume you are running the 10.2.0.5 agent since you reference patch 8477122. If this is a brand new agent installation i would start with applying the latest PSU update which contains many related fixes. If you are still getting the error after this, open an SR with Oracle Support with your specific error message.

    Hello,

    From
    [URL: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/solaris/downloads/index.html]
    Oracle Solaris 10 (x86) (2,009,606,091 bytes) (md5sum: cb55f4b7af194f6378aa5f304f3ea8fc)
Starting with the Solaris 10 3/05 release, packaging has been simplified with the delivery of most 32-bit components and 64-bit components in a single package. The combined packages retain the names of the original 32-bit packages, and the 64-bit packages are no longer delivered.
The removal of the 64-bit packages simplifies installation and increases performance:
Reduces the number of packages, which simplifies Custom JumpStart scripts that contain lists of packages
Simplifies the packaging system with only one package that groups software functions
Reduces installation time because fewer packages are installed
The 64-bit packages are renamed with the following conventions:
If a 64-bit package has a 32-bit counterpart, the 64-bit package is named with the 32-bit package name. For example, a 64-bit library such as /usr/lib/sparcv9/libc.so.1 previously would have been delivered in SUNWcslx, but now is delivered in SUNWcsl. The 64-bit SUNWcslx package is no longer delivered.
If a package does not have a 32-bit counterpart, the “x” suffix is removed from the name. For example, SUNW1394x becomes SUNW1394.
This change means that you might need to modify your custom JumpStart script or other package installation scripts to remove references to the 64-bit packages.
Please let me know if this helps.

  • Oracle E-Business Suite 12.1.3 is certified on Oracle Solaris on SPARC (64-bit) 11.2 ?

    Hi,
Is Oracle E-Business Suite 12.1.3 is certified on Oracle Solaris on SPARC (64-bit) 11.2 ? on certifications it shows only 1 Version (11).

Yes it is -- R12.1.1 : Oracle E-Business Suite Installation and Upgrade Notes Release 12 (12.1.1) for Oracle Solaris on SPARC (64-bit) (Doc ID 761568.1).
Please note Oracle Database 11gR2 (11.2.0.3 or higher) is required for EBS 12.1 on Solaris 11.

  • CF9 w/ Solaris 10 (Sparc, 64-bit): Problems with mod_jrun22.so

    Hi
We're running a Solaris (Sparc) box and installed Apache 2.2.16 and ColdFusion9 on our system. When starting ColdFusion the first time, the shell script "apache_connector.sh" installs the mod_jrun22.so (must be the successor of mod_coldfusion.so) and adds the required section in the httpd.conf file just fine. (well, after fixing the script... ^^)
The problem arises when starting Apache next time:
httpd: Syntax error on line 414 of /usr/local/httpd-2.2.16/conf/httpd.conf:
    Cannot load /opt/coldfusion9/runtime/lib/wsconfig/1/mod_jrun22.so into server:
ld.so.1: httpd: fatal: libgcc_s.so.1: open failed: No such file or directory
Apparently, this module was compiled with gcc, which we didn't install on our Sun system.
Does anyone know whether there's a module available which doesn't depend on gcc libraries under Solaris?
So far we've compiled everything with Suns compiler Sun Studio 12.0. The reason behind this is that we're using CFX-tags and our shared library uses  C/C++ and embedded SQL for Oracle 11g (yes, we're old school ^^). And since Oracle 11g officially only supports Sun Studio 12.0 when using embedded SQL, we're trying to compile everything with this compiler.
Sure we could install gcc (or at least a runtime-component containing libgcc_s.so.1), but I'm wondering now whether we'll run into problems later when using our C++ library which was compiled with Sun Studio 12.0.
Could anyone shed some light on this?
    Thanks!
    Daniel

We have our EBS 12.0.6 on Sun Solaris SPARC 64 bit. There are few hp printer (hp laserjet p2015dn) configured with our application and they are working fine.
Now we have to add one more printer but ( hp laserjet p2015dn) is not available now.
So please suggest the hp laserjet printer available for Solaris 10 Sparc 64 bit.You already have the same type of printer configured and it is working properly, so I would say it is supported.
What is the difference between the two printers configuration?
Can you print from the OS to the new printer?
What do you mean by "not available now"?

  • WLS 32-bit installer on a 64-bit JVM

    Hi All,
I was also told that I could run the WLS 10.3.1 (32 bit) installer wls1031_solaris32.bin along with a 64-bit JVM and WebLogic will run in 64-bit mode. Is that true?
If yes then what is the need for a 64 bit installer?
My underlying OS is solaris 64 bit.
I wonder how is that possible. Can anyone help me understand?
    Thanks in advance.

It doesn't make sense to me that a 32-bit installer is installing a 64-bit JVM unless that installer will install both 32-bit and 64-bit JVMs.
I would suggest you use the installer from the edelivery site: WebLogic Server 9.2 MP3 Sun Solaris SPARC (64-bit) V15433-01 598M.

  • WLS (40-bit) to WLS (128 bit) installation

Hopefully this will help shed some light on the subject.
    Terry
If you receive the following warning:
<I> <Security> WARNING: Exportable (weak) WebLogic Server build running and
domestic (full) strength SSL license detected. Only exportable strength SSL
    connections will be accepted.
This indicates that you have a full strength certificate but a weak strength
build of the server. For full strength encryption there is a different WLS
build. The generally-available (weak/40-bit) version of WLS 5. 1 supports
512-bit certificates and 40-bit bulk data encryption. The full strength
(128-bit) WLS 5.1 build supports 768-bit and 1024-bit certificates and
128-bit bulk data encryption. Your sales contact can provide the required
forms and a special URL to download the full strength build of WebLogic.
The installation for the 128-bit version is the same as the installation for
the 40-bit version. When converting to the 128-bit version a complete
re-installation is necessary. If you are installing service packs, please
note that although Service Packs 1-5 are the same for both the 40-bit and
128-bit versions, SP6 for the 128-bit version is a controlled release. In
order to obtain SP6 for WLS 5.1 (128-bit), you will need to contact your
sales representative who will be able to provide a URL where it can be
    downloaded.
Some other notes concerning the 128-bit installation. First, ensure that
you are using the permanent license that has been updated with the 128-bit
key. Second, for information on setting up WLS SSL (i.e. installing
1024-bit security certificates), please see the documentation at:
    http://www.weblogic.com/docs51/classdocs/API_secure.html.
It is my understanding that the difference between the 40-bit and 128-bit
versions of WLS 5.1 is in the encryption/decryption module. Since the
difference is limited to this particular module, transitioning from the
40-bit to the 128-bit version should be transparent as far as WLCS (3.1.1
SP1 & 2.01 SP2) is concerned. This is supported by the fact that there is a
single version of WLCS for both domestic use and export use.
A couple of general notes concerning WLCS 3.1.1/2.0.1 installations running
    on top of WLS 5.1 (40-bit or 128-bit) SP6:
WLCS 3.1.1: To date, support cases have not been received with a WLCS
3.1.1 installation running on top of WLS
5.1 (40-bit/128-bit) SP6 where SP6 has been determined to be the
    problem.
WLCS 2.0.1: With one minor exception (see Solution S-05838 below),
support cases have not been received with a
WLCS 2.0.1 installation running on top of WLS 5.1 (40-bit/128-bit) SP6
where SP6 has been determined to be the
    problem.
A couple of general notes concerning WLCS 2.01 and WLS 5.01 (40- or 128-bit)
    Service Packs 1-6:
    - There have been problems when using SP1, SP2 and SP3 for WLS 5.
    - Therefore, SP4 (minimum) is required.
    - To date, support cases have not been received where SP5 has been
    determined to be a problem.
    - There is one small issue related to SP6 (see Solution S-05838 below).
Otherwise, support cases have not been
received where SP6 has been determined to be a problem.
    - Following the SP6 installation, all the JSPs will need to be
recompiled. Due to the custom tags used in WLCS 2.0.1,
the JSPs cannot be pre-compiled. Therefore, recompiling will occur as
    the pages are accessed.
Please see the release notes that accompany each service pack downloads for
issues that are resolved with each particular
    service pack.
    Solution S-05838
A better solution to the problem: WLCS 2.0.1 only: DataLoader script causes
    ASCClientException with WLS 5.1 SP6
    Old Solution:
Use WLS 5.1 SP5 to run the DataLoader, THEN upgrade to SP6.
    New Solution:
You can run the DataLoader without exceptions for WLCS 2.0.1 SP2 and WLS 5.1
SP6 if you modify the script to use t3 socket connections instead of http.
Open the DataLoader script for editing and change the two appearances of
    "http://" to "t3://".

You need to contact your sales rep and get the domestic strength version of
    WLS.

itunes 64 bit on windows 7 is unable to install, i have the 64 bit installer version but it keeps saying "errors occurred" at the ( rolling back ) phase. HELP!!!

I have the answer and this might be useful for any one else wondering about this in the future. If it helped you or explained what you wanted to know. Replay to the post pls
It's quite easy actually. First have your "iTunes Library Extras", "iTunes Library Genius", "iTunes Library", and "iTunes Music Library" backed up. Download ans install iTunes 64-bit. I don't know what's so 64-bit about iTunes 64 since Win7 reports it as a 32-bit application in the task manager. But anyway. Install iTunes 64 and launch it. If you migrated your library to another drive like me go to settings in iTunes and change the directory to your location. Close iTunes. Replace the newly created files with your backed up files. Launch iTunes. iTunes will load and then update your library and from there you are set to go! so basically it is just like a normal upgrade. But if you hesitated to go from 32 to 64 like me, here is your answer.
By the way. I'm using Windows 7 64-bit with iTunes 64-bit and it works without problems and syncing with my iPod Touch also works flawlessly.
