Solaris 8 (7/01) for x86

Hi,
Does anyone encounters any problem in installing Solaris 8 (7/01) on a machine with
Asus A7V133 mainboard and AMD K7 Thunderbird 1.333GHz/266FBS CPU?
Video card is NVIDIA TNT2 M64 32MB AGP.
What is the secret to a successfull installation? I appreciate it very much if someone can
guide me through the installation process.
Thanks,
Alan

Probably not before 2001-8-14. :-)

  • Install Wls6.0 on Solaris 8.0 for x86

I have a pc with Solaris 8.0 for x86 installed .I also install jre1.3 on it.
When I try to install wls6.0 on it ,there comes an error message"can't find
    libjava.so ".
    I've found the file libjava.so at path "j2re1_3_0/lib/i386/" .
Why the installer didn't find the file ??

create a link (or copy the files) from your $JDK13/bin/i386 to the /usr/bea/jdk130/bin.

I followed your instructions and was able to install the server.
However, when I tried to start the server from under mydomain,

I did copy the i386 directory from the J2SDK SE 1.3.0 home to

  • Using Solaris 11 Express for a multiprocessor CAD/CAM x86-64 system.

I'm considering using Solaris 11 Express as the OS for a multiprocessor Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing custom built x86-64 system for my machine shop business. I would like clarification of the license in this situation.
Would I be allowed to use Solaris 11 for free under the open-source license, or would I have to purchase a commercial license? Would I have to pay for program updates? Does just the Oracle Solaris Premier Subscription for Solaris 11 require payment rather than the actual software as well? Would I be required to purchase an Oracle Solaris Premier Subscription to use Solaris 11 in my situation, or can I purchase the Oracle Solaris Premier Subscription at a later date.
I have a lot of respect the open-source concept, and I would only use Solaris while keeping it's license intact. So the answers to these questions are very important factors affecting my decision regarding whether or not my company will start to use Solaris.

I'm afraid you'll have to contact Oracle directly to clarify what applies in your situation.

  • Problems making Solaris 10 install disk for x86

    I have an Ultra 40 M2. I made a boot/install DVD disk with Solaris 10 for x86.
The system just doesn't recognize it at all, like there is nothing in the DVD drive.
    What am I doing wrong?
The DVD drive does recognize other DVDs, just not the Solaris 10 install one (I created two install disks to no avail)

How are you burning the DVD. What software/options.
    Theres a howto here

    I do follows:
    write the file ' /kernel/drv/nei.conf ' with ' name="nei" parent="isa" reg=0x1,0x0300,0x1f interrupts=10 '
and use the command: drvconfig -i nei --failed
use the command: drv_add -i nei; devlinks; --there is no the command drv_add
use the command: touch /reconfigure; reboot
after reboot, use the command: ifconfig nei0 plumb --failed
Did I miss something obvious, or what driver should I use?

After backing up the suspect hard drive, I ran Disk Repair on it and found no problems. Then ran Disk Warrior again and no problems. It is a Hitachi, btw.
As for the PrefPane issue: Repairing disk permissions on the main volume and on the partition that holds the system did not make any difference.
Reinstalled the 10.5.8 upgrade, performed safe start and then repaired permissions again. Still getting a blank PrefPane for network.
Next step is to try and trash the System Configuration plist and Network Interfaces plist.

  • ODBC data sources on Solaris for x86

    No.
SunOS SPARC is a BigEndian platform whereas SunOS on X64 is LittleEndian, you won´t be able to restore the backup there.
See note 552464 - What is Big Endian / Little Endian? What Endian do I have?
On top of that, there´s no database installation for Solaris x64 for 6.40 versions.

  • Sun solaris versions for x86

    Hi every body
What versions of solaris for x86 are produced by sun company as yet?
    Thanks

If Solaris 8 is not avail... is Solaris 10
equivalent? I mean.. if i develop my Web App for
WebSphere on Solaris 10.. will is cause a problem
when i "migrate" it down to Solaris 8?Depends. If it's a Java app that's being run by Websphere, then just make sure that both servers are using the same version of Java and you should be ok.
If it links against OS libraries, then your probably in trouble.
Call your local Sun Rep and see if you can buy a license for Sol 8 and then ask them or the client for media.

  • Does "rpm" exist for x86 Solaris 10 ?

Does "rpm" ( the Red Hat Package Manager ) exist for x86 Solaris 10 ? I haven't found it on www.sunfreeware.com or by Googling, and rolling my own is getting nasty....
    Thanks !

there is a rpm2cpio command in Solaris, which is useful if you have source code or similar distributed in a RPM package format, but for Solaris installations you have pkgadd/pkgrm, and then there is the pkg-get utility which is downloadable from blastwave.org .

  • How-To create a customized Solaris 10 DVD for Sparc with GRUB

I am currently using Solaris 10 U6 x86 custom jumpstart from DVD. This boot mechanism has always been Grub. I know that Solaris 10 U8 Sparc boot mechanism has been changed to Grub as well. I have referenced an excellent Blueprint on creating customized jumpstart DVD for x86. I am looking for some documentation or Blueprint which describe the similar process for Sparc. I am hoping the mkisofs command options will be the most significant difference between x86 and Sprarc.
Is there a document which describes the de-composition of the DVD for Sparc based platforms? And the re-assembly of the custom DVD?
    Thanks very much.

  • Solaris 10 10/08 x86 DVD will not boot, workaround inc.

    hi,
Downloaded the Solaris 10 10/08 x86 DVD. It will not boot up at all with the 2 Gigabyte boards I have tryed it with. GA-G33-DS3R and GA-N650SLI-DS4L I downloaded the ISO twice and checked the checksum. Burnt the DVD 4 times! The DVD works fine with my Eee PC 900 over usb. Booting the 2 gigabyte board over usb works a bit better, they get to GRUB but they still dont work correctly.
I am using IDE DVD drives with the 2 gigabyte boards. I have never had a problem like his before with my hardware. Been experimenting with lots of diffrent Linux distro's recently and they all booted fine from DVD's I have burnt from downloaded ISO's.
I have tryed the CD install disks, CD1 boots up and start the install OK, but would not finish corrctly for me. Some other problem am not going into.....
The DVD workaround I am using.
Boot up the system with am old Solaris DVD.
At the very first menu, press an arrow key to stop the 6 second timer.
Remove the old Solaris DVD and replace it with the new Solaris 10 10/08 DVD.
Wait a few seconds and select Solaris from the menu.
The install program will now continue with the new DVD. If you dont have am old solaris DVD, you could try downloading CD1 and booting that then swapping it out fot the new DVD. Not tryed this myself.

  • Oracle Solaris 10 1/13 (x86) VM hangs

    Hello,
I have downloaded Oracle VM Template for Oracle Solaris 10 1/13 (x86) from Oracle Software Delivery Cloud
and created a VM out of it. When I start it the blue Oracle Solaris screen is displayed in the console and the VM hangs.
    OVS version: 3.2.6
Hardware: Sun Server X3-2 (Formerly Sun Fire X4170 M3)
    VM config:
    Memory:4GB
    CPU:4
    Disk:40GB

Yes, but it did not help.
I did finally manage to boot Solaris 10 1/13 by changing "xvda" to "hda"
in the vm.cfg. That said, there's still a problem: the OS takes over 20 minutes
    to boot.
