Solaris 8 and the S3Virge/MX controller...

I am trying to load Solaris 8 on a Toshiba Satellite 2100CDT with the S3Virge/MX video controller with no luck. I can get it to run using the 16 color standard VGA controller, but it looks NASTY. Is there a generic 256 color SVGA controller driver, or a controller driver comparable to the S3Virge/MX that I can use? I tried the other S3Virge controller drivers, but they do not work either. For a new release, the video drivers for Solaris 8 a sadly lacking.
Thanks.

  • 785GTM-E45 and the disappearing video controller

    Noticed an odd behavior on my 785GTM-E45 motherboard.  When there is no video card installed on the motherboard, the onboard video works.
    I have since installed an ATI Radeon HD 4350 board, and I can no longer use the video ports on the motherboard.  Hardware info only shows one adapter.
    I was hoping to use three or four monitors with this setup, but as of yet no dice.
    I have tried both Internal and PCI-E for the primary video setting in the BIOS, but that doesn't seem to change anything.
    Anyone know why this is?  Thanks!

    +1.
    I have a G45 Asus mobo, and the only thing I can do when a videcard is installed is choosing between internal (and the videocard doesn't work) or pcie (and the internal doesn't work). Before, I had an old G31 Gigabyte motherboard, and I was able to use both internal and pcie at the same time. Maybe some nvidia 9300/9400 boards too. I never tried a pcie card with my 890GXM-G65, don't think it will work.
    What you can do, since you only have an HD4350, is to plug it in the pcie 1x port...you'll have to cut it at the end (quite easy with a cutter, but be careful !), but normally you should be able to use both HD4350 and Internal (not too sure how the driver will react ?). You could also buy a special pcie 1x videocard (or pci).

  • Difference of nslookup printout  on Solaris 9 and Solaris 10

    Hi,
    I am not sure whether I had to post in Solaris 9 or Solaris 10 forum. So I posted this here too.
    We are porting some of our applications from Solaris 9 to Solaris 10. We found a
    strange problem/ scenario with the nslookup on Solaris 9.
    We issued a ENUM query on Solaris 9 and the output from the nslookup binary on
    Solaris 9 is given below :
    nslookup -q=naptr -timeout=0 -domainname=. 0.0.2.1.6.2.2.7.2.1.0.e164i.arpa
    Server: test.org
    Address: xx.xx.xx.xx
    0.0.2.1.6.2.2.7.2.1.0.e164i.arpa order = 0, preference = 0
    flags = "u"
    services = "E2U+sip"
    rule = "!^.*$!sip:01272261200;phone-context=[email protected];user=phone!"
    replacement = (root)
    0.0.2.1.6.2.2.7.2.1.0.e164i.arpa order = 1, preference = 0
    flags = "u"
    services = "E2U+sip"
    rule = "!^.*$!sip:01272261200;phone-context=[email protected];user=phone!"
    replacement = (root)
    The same query on Solaris 10 has the following output :
    nslookup -q=naptr -timeout=0 -domain=. 0.0.2.1.6.2.2.7.2.1.0.e164i.arpa
    Server: xx.xx.xx.xx
    Address: xx.xx.xx.x#53
    0.0.2.1.6.2.2.7.2.1.0.e164i.arpa naptr = 0 0 "u" "E2U+sip" "!^.*$!sip:01272261200\;phone-context=[email protected]\;user=phone!" .
    0.0.2.1.6.2.2.7.2.1.0.e164i.arpa naptr = 1 0 "u" "E2U+sip" "!^.*$!sip:01272261200\;phone-context=[email protected]\;user=phone!" .
    I was wondering why the backslash is present only on Solaris 10 and not in Solaris 9. Is this a error in Solaris 9 or is the prinout format in Solaris
    10 wrong ???
    Thanks in advance !!
    Regards,
    Philip

    We encoutered a problem on the solaris 10 machine do to a applicative bug. At a moment we get the url xxxxx.do?method=toto&method=titi.Havent you used the same parameter name ??
    method=toto&method=titi
    Looks same to me ;-)
    So I envision this as a coding bug than a Solaris bug.
    Or ...maybe you can throw some more light if I misunderstood you.

  • Diff between Solaris 8 and Solaris 9

    Hello Experts,
    Do we have a document which talks about the diff between Solaris 8 and Solaris 9
    I need to know what are the new featured in Solaris 9 and etc....
    Thanks in Advance.
    Sunil.

    Sadly, the difference between the early releases of Solaris 9 and the late releases of Solaris 8 isn't that big, since Sun backported a lot of the cool features in Solaris 9 to Solaris 8..
    Hence; the answer to your question depends on which Solaris 8 and which Solaris 9 releases you are talking about.
    However, a complete list of changes incoperated in the different Solaris 9 releases can be found here:
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/817-5770/6ml72d6k9?a=view
    I guess there are similar lists for Solaris 10, which is even cooler than 8/9.
    Enjoy!

  • New install of solaris 10 and I cannot see the other 5 harddrives

    I am a bit rusty on solaris but here is the issue and exscuse my clulessness. Just installed 10 on an e450. At the ok prompt you can query the hardware and the hard drives are there. From the OS level, they do not appear. In the solaris console I can only see the hard drive the OS is on. Question is simple; how do you make the OS see the other hard drives. Linux I use disk druid. In 8 I used disksuite, but it has been about six years since I have messed with it.

    It sounds like all that was done during the installation as to set up one disk for the OS install and the remaining drive were not selected and partitioned.
    Run format and see if the disks show up. If they are there, then they likely need partitioning and file systems added with newfs command. Last thing is to make sure they get mounted by adding entries in /etc/vfstab.
    If you want to do volumes go to docs.sun.com and dowload the Sun Volume Manager documentation under Solaris 10.

  • Are there differences between Solaris 8 and Solaris 2.6 in the way web pages are displayed for Chinese and Korean text using UTF-8 settings?

    A user is running a web application on Solaris Release 2.6 with UTF-8. After the server was updated to Solaris 8, the application is experiencing problems with webpages containing Korean and Chinese text. The encoding is UTF-8. Has anyone experienced this problem? I checked the packages installed on Solaris 8 and they are consistent with what was installed on Solaris 2.6. Could this possibly be a patch-level problem? Thank you.

    Hi,
    It could be a problem with the necessary patche updation. refer the following FTP site for the Solaris pathces.
    connect through the FTP cleint to sunsolve.sun.com
    /pub/patches directory contains a lot of patches for solaris.
    Find and install the corresponding patch require to solve your problem.

  • How do I configure my PCI-GPIB cards so that one is a controller and the other is a device being controlled by the first card

    I have 2 PC's, both fitted with PCI-GPIB cards. One will be the system controller and the other will be a device on the GPIB bus. How do I configure both cards using LabWindows/CVI v7.0 to achieve this ? What commands are used to send and receive the data ?

    Hi Pete,
    For the controller board you don't really need to do anything. By default the GPIB interface is configured as controller.
    The non-controller can be configured in MAX. Right-click on the interface, uncheck the ono-controller box and change the primary address. It is usually a good idea to set these parameters programatically. Use ibpad to set the primary address and ibrsc to release system control.
    For the controller you can use a device descriptor (using ibdev) or a board descriptor (ibfind).
    You can only open a reference to the non-controller board using ibfind (ibfind("gpib0"), for example). This will open a board reference. You cannot use a device reference because that implies that the board is capable of addressing the bus. On
    ly the system controller can.
    Here are some links I found on the web on this subject:

    Example: Using a C Program as a GPIB Non-Controller with LabVIEW as the GPIB Controller

  • Where can i find the downloadable for C++ on Solaris 8 and 10?

    Hello Guys,
    Where can i find the downloadable for C++ on Solaris 8 and 10?
    Thanks in advance.
    Satish

    Albeit Sun Studio 12 doesn't support Solaris 8, while Sun Studio 11 does, you would probably want to use 12's IDE during development process, so give it a try. You can use compilers from Sun Studio 11 (stable version already available) together with IDE/debugger from Sun Studio 12 (EA available for download and stable version on its way).

  • Whether the NI step controller can control the digital servo driver and motor

    I want to you can help me confirm whether the NI step controller can control the digital servo driver and motor.If can,what is the differents between servo controller and step controller to control servo motor?Thank you so much!
    Best regards

    The PCI/PXI/FW 7344 high precision controller can be used to control both steppers and servo motors. The older PC Step controllers are made for stepper only control. The difference in the two control types is with stepper control, the controller outputs two digital signals that control the step and direction of the motor. The drive uses these digital signals to energize the stepper phases and commutate the motor. In a servo system, the controller outputs a -10 to 10 Volt analog signal that the drive then uses to output the appropriate current to the motor which is proportional to torque.

  • ESSO - Template matching and the tracing controller

    Hi,
    I'm configuring eSSO Logon Manager, and have some apps that don't match their templates... unless I'm looking at the process with the Tracing Controller, in which case they work fine. Does anyone know what might be happening?
    Edit: I have some applications where the login windows have no title. If I remove support for them in eSSO, the apps that were not matching their templates before now do so normally. Any ideas?
    (Note: I configured the applications with no login window title by matching any title for the login window, then making a disabled template for the same executable, which would match any non-empty title. If there is a better way to do it (such as a regular expression that only matches the empty string but is not the empty string itself) I'd love to hear about it.
    Thanks,
    Juan

    Hello,
    actually its normalized cross correlation, not just correlation (the difference is in the denominator - normalized correlation is invariant to uniform intensity changes).
    I don't know what more there is to say about "how" Match Pattern 4 works. Did you check the normalized cross-correlation formula? Its simple, you can implement it yourself. It basically just moves the template over the image and calculates the normalized correlation score (maybe this will make it clearer?: http://docs.opencv.org/doc/tutorials/imgproc/histograms/template_matching/template_matching.html ). The normalized cross correlation is not the only metric for matching patterns. The only thing to add is that Labview uses two different algorithms (i think there was only low discrepancy sampling in Pattern match 3):
    1. Low discrepancy sampling and
    2. Pyramid based matching (which is further divided into grayscale and gradient).
    These features are used mainly for computational time purpose. For example, pyramid matching reduces the size of the source image and the template and thus achieving less computational cost. You can read about pyramid based correlation online - there are quite a few papers that deal with it...
    Anyway, pattern matching will not work with significant scale changes or occlussions. Use geometric matching to deal with these.
    Could you show an image of positive and negatve match?
    Best regards,
    K
