Solaris 8 Dial-up setup info

Just installed Solaris 8 on my Intel PC and need to know the complete setup procedure for setting it up for Dialing out to my ISP. I currently use MSN as my ISP.
Has anyone here done the setup for MSN from scratch? I need a complete step-by-step procedure for someone without a lot of Solaris experience. I'm hoping to use Solaris instead of Windows for my Internet access if I can get it hooked up and it proves to be more reliable than my Windows 98 crap.
A link to a web site that describes how to configure Solaris 8 for dial-up to an ISP would be fine.
Thanks

Hi,
Complete setup procedure for dialing out to ISP, you refer these URLs:

  • My iPhone 4S not compatible with 2008 Q7 Audi MMI.  Now only phone numbers come up on screen, no name.  Names appeared on the phone screen but not MMI screen. Cannot dial by contact info while driving anymore.  Never had this problem with previous iPhones

    My iPhone 4S not compatible with 2008 Q7 Audi MMI.  Now only phone numbers come up on screen, no name.  When someone calls, only the number appears on the MMI screen, not their name or whether they called from their office/home etc..   Same with missed calls, dialed numbers etc.. Names appeared on the screen of the phone,  but not on MMI screen. Cannot dial by searching  contact and name info while driving anymore.  Never had this problem with previous iPhones.  Is this an Apple issue or Audi issue?  Anyone with this problem? Help!

    NIGHTMARE Finally Ends, after nearly two weeks.
    After trying for over a week trying to get my replacement iPhone 4S to activate, I ended up driving 110+ miles to an Apple Store to get a second replacement, which had been specially shipped there for me.  Popped in the SIM card, went through the setup and I finally have an iPhone 4S that works, at least for the time being.
    Advice to others who find themselves in this situation:
         1)     If you get these messages (see original post), the phone is bad.  Demand a replacement.
         2)     If the AppleCare tech advises that the Apple Agreement Administration team is investigating, you'll be waiting for a week or more for them to complete it.  Demand a replacement immediately, don't let them put you off indefinitely.
    After the initial phone call documented in my original post, I was in daily contact, phone & e-mail, with the AppleCare tech trying to figure out the problem, and we tried everything, from forced restore's to switching SIM cards, conferencing w/ AT&T, etc.  It seems that this was a case of first impression to Apple, but if it wasn't, then the problem is not well documented or known by those who should know, and for that, the blame should be on Apple, not the AppleCare tech who worked tirelessly trying to figure out a solution--I'd send him a case of beer if I knew where to send it.

  • Solaris 10 -- Apache Setup

    Hi,
    We are trying to configure Apache server on a new Oracle 10G Solaris 10 servers.
    We have configured the httpd.conf file as well and set a port 8001 open for web pages.
    Certain pages are using the Apache's PL-SQL gateway module ( mod_plsql) . These page links are like http://hostname:8001/pls/DAD_NAME/HelloWorld
    HelloWorld is my Procedure in backend database.
    We have configured the dads.conf file( u01/app/oracle/product/10.1.2_as/Apache/modplsql/conf/dads.conf) to setup the Apache PLSQL gateway.
    The following are the contents we added in dads.conf file,
    <Location /pls/DAD_NAME>
    SetHandler pls_handler
    Order deny,allow
    Allow from all
    AllowOverride None
    PlsqlDatabaseUsername ssd
    PlsqlDatabasePassword xyz
    PlsqlDatabaseConnectString athos_ssd2.world
    PlsqlAuthenticationMode Basic
    </Location>
    Apache logs are showing the following,
    [Mon May 18 12:15:31 2009] [error] [client 172.24.225.32] [ecid: 1242645331:172.25.242.71:14041:0:1,0] mod_plsql: /pls/DAD_NA
    ME/HelloWorld HTTP-503 ORA-12154 ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified\n
    /u01/app/oracle/product/10.1.2_as/Apache/Apache/logs/access_log.1242604800: Permission denied
    Error we are getting on webpage –
    Service Temporarily Unavailable
    The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.
    Please suggest a way out so the helloworld procedure is called from webpage link mentioned above.

    have you verified you can connect with the oracle client (on the apache server) using the tns name you configured for the apache mod?

  • Sun one 7 update 3 + solaris 8 -x86 setup crashes..!

    Hi
    I'm having a wierd problem setting up sun one app server update 3 on solaris 8 x86 platform.
    The issue is that when i try running the setup it crashes
    ======================================
    ./setup -console
    ld.so.1: ./setup: fatal: libCstd.so.1: open failed: No such file or Directory
    Killed
    ======================================
    I guess the app server is not fiding some shared object.. so i edited /etc/default/init and added
    LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib:/usr/local/lib.. but no luck ! I could not find any patch @ sunsolve that addresses this issue ...
    The app server was supposed to be for solaris 9-x86. Is it causing the problem ? is there any workaround for this ?
    Also does any one know how to remove all the windowing packages from a solaris machine ? I want the machie to be a server with no GUI stuff on it ..

    Try collecting and looking into the sequence of all system calls taking place during setup execution with truss:
    # truss -o truss.out -feald ./setup -console
    There is a good chance that you might notice the reason why the ld is failing on trying to load the libCstd.so.

  • Solaris 10 ldapclient setup question

    Hi all,
    I'm setting up ldap authentication for ssh logins on a Solaris 10 system.
    Up to now, I've been successful in finding my answers in:
    1 this forum
    2 http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/features/articles/nis_ldap_part2.jsp
    3 http://web.singnet.com.sg/~garyttt/Installing%20and%20configuring%20OpenLDAP%20for%20Solaris9.htm
    Unfortunately time is running short and I find myself bothering you guys.
    The openldap server is running (on RHEL 3) and populated in the fashion described in (2).
    Solaris 10 ldapclient file:
    NS_LDAP_FILE_VERSION= 2.0
    NS_LDAP_SERVERS= ldap1.example.com, ldap2.example.com
    NS_LDAP_SEARCH_BASEDN= dc=example,dc=com
    NS_LDAP_AUTH= tls:simple
    NS_LDAP_SEARCH_REF= FALSE
    NS_LDAP_SEARCH_SCOPE= one
    NS_LDAP_SEARCH_TIME= 30
    NS_LDAP_CACHETTL= 43200
    NS_LDAP_PROFILE= tls_profile
    NS_LDAP_CREDENTIAL_LEVEL= proxy
    NS_LDAP_SERVICE_SEARCH_DESC= passwd: ou=People,dc=example,dc=com
    NS_LDAP_SERVICE_SEARCH_DESC= group: ou=group,dc=example,dc=com
    NS_LDAP_SERVICE_SEARCH_DESC= shadow: ou=People,dc=example,dc=com
    NS_LDAP_SERVICE_SEARCH_DESC= netgroup: ou=netgroup,dc=example,dc=com
    NS_LDAP_BIND_TIME= 10
    The user info of the test account can be queried from the Solaris 10 client.
    bash-3.00# ldaplist -l passwd tuser
    dn: uid=tuser,ou=People,dc=example,dc=com
    uid: tuser
    sn: user
    cn: test user
    uidNumber: 1002
    gidNumber: 100
    shadowMax: 99999
    shadowFlag: 0
    shadowLastChange: 14077
    objectClass: top
    objectClass: person
    objectClass: posixAccount
    objectClass: shadowAccount
    objectClass: inetOrgPerson
    loginShell: /bin/bash
    homeDirectory: home/tuser
    gecos: test user
    Passwords in the ldap db are {SSHA} encrypted.
    Encountered behaviour:
    When attempting a login to the Solaris 10 system through ssh, I'm asked three times to provide the user's password, which I diligently do without typos, after which I am again queried three times for the password:
    [root@tartaros ~]# ssh tuser@ceres
    Password:
    Password:
    Password:
    [email protected]'s password:
    Permission denied, please try again.
    [email protected]'s password:
    Permission denied, please try again.
    [email protected]'s password:
    Received disconnect from 10.224.183.40: 2: Too many authentication failures for tuser
    I feel it is going wrong somewhere in the password encryption (or lack thereof?) by the ldapclient. How can I debug this or better yet, fix this?
    Kind regards,
    Joost

    Correction on the above: The openldap server is running (on RHEL 3) and populated in the fashion described in 3 (Gary Tay's doc).
    The logging on the ldap side (entire sequence of repeated login attempts) shows the following:

  • Backup server setup info with Server Assistant

    Hi,
    I'm trying to backup my OS X Server (10.9.4) setup information using Server Assistant. On the 'Welcome' page in the Assistant, I selected "Save setup information in a file or directory record." The other choices are "Install software on a remote server" or "Setup a remote server." When I click Continue, the Assistant acts more like it's doing an initial installation as opposed to a backup of settings that are already in use. It asks for the OS X Sever serial number, and even for the administrator name, shortname, password, and to verify the password, just as though i'm setting up the server for the first time. I'm afraid to continue past the Administrator Account page since it seems like it might copy over my current setup.
    OS X Server Help is useless here. It only states that you can backup the server settings, not how to do it.
    Anybody ever do this before? Should I just proceed?
    thanks
    b
    X Serve Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Hi
    You can use Server Assistant but it can only save a configuration file to another server running directory services. You can save property lists for individual configured services by drag dropping the propery list to the desktop (small icon above the Settings Save button. Transfer them to a memory stick or something suitable. Server Admin can be configured later on with these property lists. Export Users and Groups, bear in mind passwords are not transferred across. You can transfer passwords using the appropriate command line tools, but this is not trivial. Most people find it easier to define a password policy for all users once they have been re-imported.
    For many reasons I would not advise you to save the Open Directory property list.
    If you are planning to change the server name and/or IP address then don’t start the services after drag dropping the transferred property lists, issue changeip first – consult the man page for proper usage. Restart the server twice and then start your services one by one starting with AFP, Windows and DHCP, test these with a test user in the local directory node. When you are ready move on to DNS, test this thoroughly before moving on to any DNS dependent services such as LDAP, Mail, Web, SUS etc.
    Hope this helps

  • Solaris 8 client setup with solaris 9 ldap

    I have managed to install iplanet directory server 5.1 that comes with solaris 9 using the utility idsconfig. As far as i can tell, all went well. Now i'm trying to initialize a solaris 8 client to authenticate to the iDS 5.1 on my solaris 9 box. What do i have to do on the solaris 8 client to "initialize it"? I've tried using ldapclient on the solaris 8 client as follows:
    # ldapclient -v -P default x.x.x.x
    but i keep getting the following errors:
    findDN rename(/var/ldap/ldap_client_file.orig, /var/ldap/ldap_client_file) failed!
    findDN rename(/var/ldap/ldap_client_cred.orig, /var/ldap/ldap_client_cred) failed!
    There are no files in /var/ldap. I thought that one uses ldapclient to create them. Am i wrong?
    Also, the output from idsconfig says that a 'NisDomainObject' was added to my domain but looking at the object classes in iDS5.1, there is no nisdomainobject.
    I also noticed that when i run the command domain on my solaris 8 box, there's no output. Do i need to set the domain on my solaris 8 client? I have the domain defined in /etc/resolv.conf.
    Stewart

    hi Stewart,
    You may find what you are looking for in the following technical note: http://knowledgebase.iplanet.com/ikb/kb/articles/7966.html
    It is called: "Cookbook for Solaris 8 client with Directory Server 5.1/Solaris 9" :-)
    Hope this will help you.
    Cheers / Damien.

  • ARD 3 on 10.4.6 (ppc) not saving setup info

    Hi,
    I'm new to ARD, but really love it works great! Except one problem.
    every time i run the application it starts the 'Remote Desktop Setup'
    dialog window asking for a new password, and (after providing this)
    the application forgets all the new lists I made, etc...
    Totally puzzling. Otherwise works fine, but I'd like to be able to save
    something. Has this happened for anyone else, and are there any suggestions?
    thanks,
    todd

    Well I gave both a shot. After uninstalling ARD, fixing permission using Disk Utility, and re-installing, still no working. One thing I noticed was while following Apple's uninstall directions that the file ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.RemoteDesktop.plist did not existing in my home folder. I checked the permissions on that Preferences folder and they are:
    drwx------ 162 gureckis gureckis 5508 Jul 12 21:15 Preferences
    Which matches other machines I have. I don't know why ARD can't write out local perferences! Any more ideas or should I call Apple?

  • Statistical setup info sturctures frm purchasing documents

    Hi all,

    while doing restructured the tables and to fill again setup tables Im getting an error "time of termination lies in past" what could be the reason can any one help me out pls..
    thanx ,
    aak

    hi,
    the statistical setup will setup all PO-related extractors (2LIS_02_*) - so you only need one setup. =)
    at this point all you need to do is to replicate the datasource in your BW system, create and activate (or transport) transfer rules, assign update rules for this infosource in whichever infoproviders, create an infopackage, and load away. =)

  • Are there any rough processes for Solaris administrator to setup Sun LDAP as nameing server at Sun sparc host? like: 1st: modify /etc/nfsswitch.nfs 2nd: add LDAP server in /etc/hosts. 3rd: ......

    Besides, can we install the LDAP server in sparc hosts as nameing system? Can we use Sun LDAP server or iPlanet Directory Server? or need BIND DNS server too?

    There is a nice book from Michael Haines and Tom Bialaski: "Solaris and LDAP Naming Services" which contains all you need to configure Directory Server, LDAP, Naming Switch...

  • Swapping computers with the setup info

    When I set up my Airport Extreme Base Station I had attached it to a Dell running Windows XP. That desktop crapped out recently and the Base Station continues to broadcast the wireless signal just fine. However, I realize that in order to update the software, I am going to need to hook it up to a computer. I plan to sub in a Dell laptop running XP. I know I should run the ethernet cable that was attached to the dead desktop to the laptop, but should I install the extreme express software on the laptop first, and once it is hooked up, will it read the configuration already on the base station? In other words, somebody walk me through this. Right now I have a wireless signal being broadcast through my house. I don't want to screw that up.
    Roger

    Hello Roger in North Charleston. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
    I know I should run the ethernet cable that was attached to the dead desktop to the laptop, but should I install the extreme express software on the laptop first, and once it is hooked up, will it read the configuration already on the base station?
    It doesn't matter when you install the AirPort utility, but it will need to be installed before you can administer the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS). Just use the installation CD that came with your base station to install the utility.
    , and once it is hooked up, will it read the configuration already on the base station?
    Yes.

  • 10131 solaris class path setup

    Hi,
    In our previous implementation on 1012 AS we had the path for the config directory specified in server.xml as
    <library path="/export/home/ora10g/xyz/runtime/config/" />
    For 10131 it is moved in the orion-application.xml as well as in the oc4j configuration file application.xml. However this does not seem to be working. We are running on SunOS 5.9.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    -horea

    Please disregard. It was a different problem.

  • Which Name Service for Solaris installation behind router?

    I want to install Solaris on my computer in a small home LAN behind a router.
    The Solaris computer is not part of a zone, a domain and there is no own DNS server in LAN.
    I want Solaris to get the DNS from router which in turn gets the DNS server assignments from network provider.
    This is similar to a Windows installation which gets the current DNS servers defintion from network provider at connection startup.
    Now what do I have to select during Solaris installation? See attached snapshot
    I guess LDAP, NIS and NIS+ are not suitable.
    Do I have to select "None"?
    Does DNS mean "own DNS server in LAN" or "DNS from router" (as intended)?
    Thank you
    Peter

    Hello
    I don't know you home setup but in general you will have to use DCHP so solaris will get all info from the route the ip and dns etc..
    If you want to use a static ip you will have to config the DNS by hand.
    Regards
    Eze
