Solaris 8 does not boot in Intel Platform

I got free Solaris 8 CD for Intel Platform. I installed it in a PC with Intel 133 cpu. It cannot boot up after it is installed. When I boot, it just keeps rebooting system and get an error says, "File Can not be synchronized". I know I made some mistake during installation. My PC has a 3COM network car but it is not connect to any network. During installation, I told that I connect to network and give a non-exist ip address.
My question is how do I reinstall it? I have tried to delete everything in hard drive but no luck to get installation start again.
The other problem I see is that the scan program tells me that there is an IDE card lack of resources and conflicts with another IDE card.
Could some one tell me how to make Solaris 8 working on my Intel Platform PC?
Thanks,
Cindy

I'm trying to install Solaris 8 using the Device Configuration Assistant diskette in order to boot from the CD Drive. The whole boot process goes through as described in the documentation but at the time that is trying to copy files to the HD in order to porceed with the install, I get the following error message:
<pre>
No Disks that meet the citeria in the Solaris
installer documentation found.
Please check the system or try another installation option
</pre>
When the software is checking for drivers/hardware, it recognizes the HD, but it seems that when trying to boot it doesn't. The documentation makes reference to fdisk and partitioning but I am not given the oportunity to do it at any time.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • T60 does not boot with Intel T7600G CPU

I replaced my Intel Core Duo T2400 with Intel Core 2 Duo T7600G CPU in ThinkPad T60(1951-CTO) laptop. However, laptop does not boot with Intel Core 2 Duo T7600G CPU. It doesn't even complete the POST: https://db.tt/8UL8FlE0 As seen in the video, I plugged in the power adapter at 0:02 and pressed the power button at 0:06. One can hear a little click made by optical device. If I press the power button again at 0:16, this click does not happen. BIOS version is 2.27. I have reset the BIOS settings by disconnecting the CMOS battery, but this didn't help. Once I replace the T7600G with my old T2400 then I'm able to boot the laptop.
Any ideas what might cause such behavior? Shouldn't there be beep codes in case of CPU issues? What else to try?

I don't claim to be the top authority on T60 motherboards, but I believe any will use a Core 2 T7600, 7400, 7200 if the firmware is updated.
My own experience mirrors what TuuS has stated. I have yet to see a T60/p from any walk of life with a recent BIOS that will bark at a proper Core 2 Duo CPU.

  • X86: Solaris does not boot correctly?

I have installed Solaris on a second hard disk.
When I boot my computer on the second hard disk, I get the Solaris 10 emergency booting system which tries to find out on which hard disk I would like to boot Solaris 10.
Is there a possiblity to save my settings once for all time?
Because on every time I boot, I got the Solaris emergency boot manager to rechoose the disk on which I should boot.

Since a similar thing happens after other updates, it probably is not directly related to "uninstalling google desktop."  Does the same thing sometimes happen when you do a regular restart (with no update or uninstall)?
You can try doing a SMU (power management) reset.  Before you do that, reset PRAM.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
If that does not help, follow this procedure precisely to reset the SMU
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1767
When you reconnect the power cord, if you were using an power strip of some kind (especially if it's old or overcrowded), try connecting it directly to a wall outlet by itself (at least initially).  Start it up with only the power cord connected, then (if it starts up normally), add only standard USB keyboard and mouse.  Use it that way for a while to see if there's improvement.  If it's better, add your other peripheral devices back, one at a time, to see if the problem returns.

  • Boot failed: solaris server does not boot

    Hi All,
one of my support person who has administrator previlages tried move the contents of root to trash directory, in the middle it got hung, and he had restrted the server.
Now the solaris does not boot. It says
    boot failed
    Enter Filename [platform/sun4v/kernel/sparcv9/unix]
and what ever we enter there it says boot cannot read.
Please suggest some workaround, nearly 200 users are down, actually it is our licnese server.

    Hi,
What you could try is the following :
Boot the system from the solaris cd into single user mode.
Find out what the disk is you need to mount and mount it under /a
After you have done this you can see if you can move back the stuff that was moved from the root directory to the trash.
If that works then you could try and boot again from the disk to see if everything works again.

  • Reset Password - System does not boot from DVD

    My System: Macbook Pro - 2Ghz Intel Core Duo - OS X - 10.6.8
    Hi everyone,
i forgot my password. So i want to boot from install DVD to reset the password. Unfortunately my macbook pro does not boot from DVD (10.6.3).
I press c all the time...but sometimes the macbook pro throws the DVD out...and sometimes nothing happens.
The DVD drive is working fine...
    Any other idea?
    Thanks in advance.
    Fabian

So when you boot holding option it shows a padlock with a password field? Is that correct?
In that case we're talking about the firmware password, which you can't reset via the install disk. There is only one way to do this, I'm not certain if one is allowed to divulge that information publicly - might want to try googling "reset firmware password"

  • KT6V + sempron 2800 does not boot when BIOS saved

    Hi,
I have just bought a new sempron 2800 to be use on a KT6V LSR. I plugget in my KT6V but was not recognised well (but all was working ok with windows). To be recognised, I have flashed with the last bios of MSI my motherboard... and now I have the following problem:
    - I clear CMOS, then boot. It comes ok (processor detected and set a 1200Mhz)
    - Then CMOS has a bad checksum: I enter setup, then load default, save.
    - I reboot: the computer does not boot up.
If I re-clear CMOS I can re-enter setup and modify frequencies or other options. But when I save my modifications, then the computer does not reboot anymore (I have to re-clear cmos again)...
I tried to apply the configuation I found in this thread:
    http://forums.amd.com/lofiversion/index.php/t69536.html
It says that SDRAM must be at 333, FSB at 166 and multiplicator at 12. When applying this settings, it does not boot (the leds indicate that the chipset initialisation (the first step) does not pass).
If I just load biios default, the leds indicates that it fails when checking the memory (second step of boot). I suspect that it's a problem of memory (but my memory was working well before !): it's 2x512 of DDR 400.
Any suggestion is appreciated :D . I spent several hours trying to configure the bios but it does not boot..
(I'll also try to find help on AMD forums...)
(Some extra info: my PSU is 26A for 12V, so it seems that it's not due to the PSU (as I read in the FAQ of this forum).
    Thanks,
    Ptitmain.

  • New system does not boot properly

I just set up a new system with:
     a MS-6728 Neo2 FIS2R Mobo,
    1gb Geil PC-3500 RAM (2x512),
    2.6C proc.
2 Maxtor 120gb IDE drives RAID 0 with the onboard promise controller.
    Lite-On DVD burner
    ATI radeon 9800 video card
Enermax 300 watt power supply with:
    3.3v - 28amp
    5v - 30amp
    12v 22amp
    170watt total 3.3/5 combined
My problem is that my system NEVER boots up normally.  It always freezes in the bios startup.  The D-bracket stops at almost every possible combination of led's, which according to the manual the problems were:  Testing RTC, Initialize Video interface, Testing memory, Initializing floppy controller, Memory detection, Decompressing bios to ram, possibly more.  Sometimes I also just get beeping, either a continuous beep or 8 beeps.  A few times it would display the bios startup screen, but halfway down would be gibberish characters and would be locked up.  When I then turn the computer off then on again, the bios is reset at least somewhat(i know because I usually disable the full screen image on startup) and says memory timings are too tight, and I have the choice to enter bios or hit any key to automatically fix things.  If I hit any key it will boot up ok.  However when I restart/turn off the computer, the next time it again does not boot.  I tried upping the ram voltages from 2.5-2.9v, and that seems to stay that way in the bios, even when it resets itself.  Everything else is set to auto/slow.  If I try to manually adjust the memory timings, even to the slowest possible settings, it does not boot, and I must turn it on/off a few times till the bios resets again, with the boot process stopping at one of the possiblilitys mentioned above.    Using the info tab on speedfan, I got the memory info, and it displayed the voltage at 2.5v, not sure what that means but it is strange.
    What I have already attempted:
I sent back the ram and got a new set, which hasn't changed anything.  The first time the other ram failed memtest, this time it passed(for about 2 hrs).  So I don't think its the ram.
I borrowed an antec truepower 430w powersupply, which had no effect.
I went back to bios version 1.3 from 1.9, which also seems to have no effect.
I was hoping to overclock the system a bit and enable performance mode etc etc, but now I'll be happy to just not have to go through a song and dance everytime I restart the computer.  This is only the second computer I have built from scratch, and the first with raid, but that seemed to all go ok.  Please help me diagnose the problem!

I too am having problems with my system.

    2 Maxtor 120GB S-ATA drives, RAID 0, Promise
    2 512MB Geil Ultra CL2-3-3-6
    HP CD-RW
What IDE settings are you using?
    E.g...Native? P-ATA Only...all of those settings
For me...sometimes XP will install and boot...but eventually system is unstable and XP crashes and corrupts itself...Event Manager errors different each time
Someone mentioned problems with Maxtor and AMI BIOS...anything I should keep in mind?
Sorry about all the different questions.  I'm sure exactly where my problem lies.  MSI thinks it may be my memory AND/OR on-board IDE controller since I can't get the on-board Intel RAID setup to consistently "see" and setup my RAID drives...even when it has worked...XP doesn't like the Intel configured RAID drives.  Also tried just one S-ATA drive through on-board Intel and Promise.  Next I will try a plain old IDE Hard Drive...no S-ATA...and make sure my memory passes memtest86+ testing.
Any other gems you can offer for this config???  Thanks.

  • IMac Does not boot past Gray Screen

iMac does not boot past Gray Screen.  2008 24" Intel iMac running Mountain Lion with 1TB hard drive.
Problem started yesterday while I was web surfing, and my iMac frooze and shutdown.  I rebooted and could only get as far as the gray screen.
On bootup the following things happen:
    Startup tone
Gray screen with Apple, and gear spins below Apple.
Once the gear stops spinning, nothing happends.
    Troubleshooting steps I have tried:
removed all devices connected to iMac and rebooted, but same symptons occur.
booted into Safe mode and run disk utilites.
Disk Utilities found no errors on the drive, but did find two permission issues that it was able to fix.
              First permission issue:
"Group differs on library; Should be 0; group is 80"
              Second permission issue:
"Permissons differ on library; Should be drwxr-xr-x; They are drwxrwxr-t"
Disk Utilities says it fixes these issues and then I reboot, but get the same problem.
I reboot back into Safe Mode and run Disk Utilities and it discovers the same problems listed above with Permissions.  It says it fixes them, I reboot, but the same problem occurs.  Its as if we are stuck in some sort of loop process.
Booted into Single User Mode and ran the following command:
/SBin/fsck -fy   it reports back,  Volume Apprears to be ok.
    I reboot, same issue !
Performed SMC Reset, Rebooted, same issue
Performed PRAM Reset, Rebooted, same issue.
Booted into Recovery Partitioin (Command R) and ran disk utilities.  It found the same permission issues listed above.  It fixed them.  I rebooted.  Same problem still.
While in safe mode, I preformed a full time machine backup.
I am out of ideas.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello,
I reboot back into Safe Mode and run Disk Utilities and it discovers the same problems listed above with Permissions.
You can ignore repeated "fixes" it's not really a problem, if it says completed repairs that's all that's needed.
Luckily it boots in Safe Mode, here's basically the steps to try to find out what it is...
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...
    /private/var/run/StartupItems
    /Library/StartupItems
    /System/Library/StartupItems
    /System/Library/LaunchDaemons
    /Library/LaunchDaemons
Though I'm suspecting some corruption to your OS at the moment.

  • Thinkpad Edge E420 does not boot up and customer service does not help

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E420 laptop that stopped powering on all of a sudden. It was working fine till one day fine and all of a sudden, does not boot up the next morning. I have googled around and looked in Lenovo Forums and it looks like this is a common issue with motherboard on these types of laptops and that lenovo fixed some of these. Unfortunately, my laptop is out of warranty but I do see that Lenovo fixed similar problems for some laptops that are out of warranty. Please see the two threads below
    https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-Edge-S-series/thinkpad-e420-wont-start/td-p/755813
    https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-Edge-S-series/E420-motherboard-problems/td-p/667009/page/10
So, I tried calling customer service multiple times hoping that I could get to talk to a supervisor and explain the problem. Just today, I was told I need to agree to pay $575 (which is much more than what the laptop is worth) to even talk to a supervisor. This is quite disappointing.
If any Lenovo support staff is monitoring it, can you help here?

Its not the motherboard even though they say it is. All they will do is replace the motherboard and it will just fail on you again. I had the exact same issue and the motherboard was replaced. Next day I used it it failed again. You need to remove the CMOS battery which is located underneath the laptop. Its in the compartment with the one screw. Remove that. Remove the battery and all power supply. Then  plug the CMOS back in and  plug in powercord. Once you have done that start up as normal. Press f1 to enter BIOS. Go to the Config tab and under "power options" disable "rapid intel start." That worked for me as a temporary solution.
It clearly isnt a motherboard fault as all Tech support from Lenovo claim it to be. I mean c'mon I had the exact same fault the day after my motherboard was replaced, but after removing CMOS and battery the motherboard magically starts to work?? Must be related to the W5 problem they have been having with BIOS.
Heres a link to another thread with others with the same problem.
    http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-Edge-S-series/E540-power-issue/td-p/1326979/page/9
Let me know if this helps at all since no one from Lenovo seems to care about helping their own customers... very dissappointed with the customer service. Personally I dont think Ill ever purchase a lenovo product again after their pathetic execuse for "tech support." Anyway good luck!

  • K9AGM3-F does not boot with PCIe 4x device in PCIe 16x slot

K9AGM3-F motherboard does not boot with PCIe 4x Intel PRO/1000 PT dual port network interface card installed into PCIe 16x slot on motherboard. The boot process stops in BIOS screens. The motherboard works flawlessly without this NIC. K9VGM-V + Intel PRO/1000 PT boot successfully. I tried three K9AGM3-F motherboards and two Intel PRO/1000 PT NICs in different combinations, the results are always the same. It appears to be some kind of BIOS problem.

Quote from: Fredrik Åsenius on 09-April-08, 22:52:27
Minor point, probably irrelevant: I said you install the driver f i r s t. Then you put the physical card in.
The driver is completely irrelevant because the driver is a part of operating system, but as I already wrote before the boot process stops long before the OS start.
Quote from: Fredrik Åsenius on 09-April-08, 22:52:27
    No stability issues otherwise?
PSU is always good to know.
The PSU is irrelevant too because the same NICs work in the PCIe 1x slot of the same motherboard with the same PSU.

  • My mac mini does not boot, after backing the enire system onto an external drive with Carbon Copy Clone

My Mac Mini does not boot, after backing the enire system onto an external drive with Carbon Copy Clone. I had switched the start-up disk back to the original of course. Now all I see is the Apple logo. What should I do? Thanks in advance.

Try disconnecting any external devices, especially hard drives
    and try rebooting.
If that doesn't help, then :
If you are running Lion, boot to the Recovery HD and run a

If Snow Leopard, boot to the installl DVD and run Repair Disk.

  • My iMac does not boot after update!!!

I have just update my iMac (Intel) with Apple Software update. I have not updated for quite a while and obvious there were a bunch of stuff to update on my mac. However, when the computer requests a restart, my computer simply does not restart at all. I have tried to make it restart from the apple icon, and it still stay on. So I turn it off manually and the problem kicks in. My computer start with the grey apple icon screen and the little progress indicator, but it does not boot into OS X!!! It remains in a blue screen with the mouse pointer.
I restarted it again unplugging everying and nothing changed. Then I tried Disk Repair and it does not help neither. Then I tried to hold the power button while turning it on till I get the loud beep noise and flashy light. The problem stay the same. I do not want to erase my disk...
    Someone Helps!
Intel iMac 20" Dual Core / MacBook Pro 15"   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Interesting. Have you installed any third-party RAM? Is there any possibility that your RAM became loose? Make sure your existing RAM is seated properly.
Have you performed a SMC reset?
Resetting the SMC can resolve some computer issues such as not starting up:
From the Apple menu, choose Shut Down (or if the computer is not responding, hold the power button until it turns off).
Unplug all cables from the computer, including the power cord and any display cables.
    Wait at least 15 seconds.
Plug the power cord back in, making sure the power button is not being pressed at the time. Then reconnect your keyboard and mouse to the computer.
Press the power button on the back to start up your computer.
Are you able to boot in SAFE mode? If so, you can trouble shoot from there.
Be sure the computer is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, press and hold the Shift key.
Tip: The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone but not before.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple and progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).

    Any idea?

That sounds like a failed logic board or display module on the logic board...either way you need to take it to an Apple store genius bar and have the techs test it to see exactly what has failed.  The testing is free so give the techs a chance at diagnosing the problem.

  • P35 Neo does not boot

    Hi,
    I have just bought a P35 neo F and a Code 2 Duo E6550 processor.
When I switch the power on, the cpu fan starts and stop and then start again which looks OK for this motherboard - My problem is that the system does not boot after this - I have tried different combinations (with or without memory, with or without hard drive, with or without graphic card, I have tried 2 different graphic cards, 2 different power supply... no result - Could someone help me ?
    My config :
    MB P35 Neo F
Proc Intel core 2 duo E6550
Power supply Enermax extreme power 500W
Graphic card Asus EN 8600 GTS
    Thanks

I've tried a Kingston PC2 6400 CL5 - the system still do not boot up - I can see the keybord blinking at the beginning of the boot process but the screen noes not receive any signal - I get a bip after about 20 sec and another one again after 20 sec.
The processor or the mother board must be faulty...but how to know which  ?
    MSI P35 Neo2-FIR (bios v1.5)
    Intel E2180
    Tuniq Tower 120
    2 x 1GB Ballistix PC2-8500
    XFX GeForce 8600GT
    Maxtor 80GB
    Seagate 250 GB
    Advance 550 watt PSU
I just finished building this rig, and had exactly the same "no boot" issue using Ballistix RAM. The board powered up, then it did the auto shutdown thing which is normal, and then it started up for real, the diagnostic LEDs on the mobo light up, the CPU fan spins, I get a single beep but then just a blank screen, no POST screen, can't enter the BIOS
I tried a minimal build outside the case using just the graphics card, monitor, keyboard, and a single stick of Ballistix RAM in four different slots, re-setting the CMOS at each attempt, But still no POST
I was advised the Ballistix may be the problem as they're rated at 2.2v and the MSI board sets 1.8v until you change the voltages in BIOS, so I ordered 2 sticks Kingston Value RAM  667MHz rated at 1.8v, Inserted a single stick then powered up, but still no POST, Inserted the second stick and the board fired up!  I needed both sticks inserted to boot,  glad I ordered 2 sticks of Kingston instead of one, I'm keeping them as a backup if the Ballistix fail. Inserted the Ballistix and they're running fine @ 1160 MHz  CAS 5: 5: 5: 15: 2T  2.3v
