Solaris 8 for SPARC ISOs anyone?

Hello, I am new to this forum, but I am really trying to get my hands on Solaris 8 ISOs, CDs, etc. My company needs to support our products on Solaris 8.
Thanks in advance!
Sky

Hi
Ebay? Or perhaps from Sun by special order.
Solaris 8 entered end of life last February. In just over a year it will enter phase 2 eol - no more patches, and access to existing patches only to customers with support contracts.
You should also be aware that no current SPARC hardware supports Solaris 8 (at least, not that I'm aware of). This might not be a problem if you have support contracts for your hardware. If, on the other hand, you don't have such a contract and your hardware fails, or you need extra hardware, then again you'll have to look for second hand sources like Ebay.
Perhaps you should consider moving to Solaris 9 or 10?

  • Where Do I Download Solaris for Intel?

    Hi!
Can anyone tell me where do I download Solaris 8 for Intel?
When I can use Solaris for SPARC will I have any problems
using the Intel one? Are they any differences in commands
    or so?
    Thanks
    Tom

You can no longer download Solaris for Intel. You can order it @
    http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/binaries/get.html
When you get it sucessfully installed you should not see any difference in command set from The SPARC version.

  • Solaris 10 SPARC requisites

Which are the SPARC hardware requisites for a Solaris 10?
    Thanks

A couple of Google searches for "solaris 10 release notes"
and from that, searching on "solaris 10 platform guide" got me to:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E19253-01/817-6337-15/chapter1.html#d0e809
That link's information is for the initial, earliest GA release of Solaris in 2005.
Essentially, it would install to an UltraSPARC-II at approximately 300MHz and about 256MB of system RAM.
Every newer release had higher mminimum requirements,
    and newer hardware technologies
(for example for US-III+ and for sun4v modules)
would require a newer release of Solaris.
Keep in mind, those specs are only to be able to install the OS. You wouldn't ever be able to run any applications unless the hardware were more capable. A minimum-spec'd system would be slower than a frozen snail.
You didn't think it important to mention what hardware you might have, so responses can noly be in vague general terms.
    Edit:
After glancing at your other recent posts...
You must run Solaris-for-SPARC on SPARC hardware. You cannot virtualize it on an x86 system.

  • How is solaris for intel

    Hi
My boss wants to use Solaris for Intel instead of Solaris for Sparc and he wants me to research which one is better, i.e. more stable and secure. I don't know how good solaris for Intel is. Please explain.
    Many thanks,
    Cindy

I use both Solaris x86 and Sparc... Depending on your budget is going to vary which one you should use. The real difference is the processor architecture and cost.
I have seen both in production and both work very well. Matter of fact Lucent uses x86 in all their Telecom Noc environments and it works really well. I use it as a desktop OS because my boss it cheap and won't buy me a Sparc machine. With the x86 lacking bootprom I prefer the sparc installtions. Depending on what you are using it for depends on which I would recommend. Both are good.
Sun was really driving the Intel version some years back and Intel stopped helping them develop for the x86 instruction set. So that's where it lies... You can get patches and software for both platforms usually.

  • Where can I download Firefox 17.0.8esr for Solaris 10 (SPARC)?

I need to upgrade from 17.0.7esr to 17.0.8esr on Solaris 10 (SPARC) servers. For some reason there is no /contrib/ folder under http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/17.0.8esr/
That is where I normally find the Solaris tarball I need.
I notice there is a tarball under http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/candidates/17.0.8esr-candidates/build2/contrib/solaris_tarball/ but I am hesitant to use a "candidate" that didn't qualify for release.
Anyone know why this isn't released? Anyone tried the candidate?

I am guessing that like Ubuntu canonical builds that third party builds for SPARC tend to run somewhat behind the official Mozilla builds on which they are based.
You probably need to contact the SPARC devs for an answer.

Anyone know when MIB software will be available on Solaris 11 ?

  • Is Solaris 10 for SPARC free?

I need to install the solaris 10 for SPARC and I am not sure if it is free. Please let me know if anyone has that information and if it is free where can I download it from?
    Thank

If your machines are using a local patch proxy, and the patch proxy has a contract then all servers talking to the proxy will get all the patches.
If your machines talk directly to sun, then only the machines registered with a contract will get all patches. The ones without a contract will only get security patches.

  • Compatible HP laser jet printer for EBS 12.0.6 on Solaris 10 SPARC 64 bit

    Hi,
We have our EBS 12.0.6 on Sun Solaris SPARC 64 bit. There are few hp printer (hp laserjet p2015dn) configured with our application and they are working fine.
Now we have to add one more printer but ( hp laserjet p2015dn) is not available now.
So please suggest the hp laserjet printer available for Solaris 10 Sparc 64 bit.

What is the difference between the two printers configuration?
Can you print from the OS to the new printer?
What do you mean by "not available now"?

  • Announcing availability of  x86 hosted cross compiler for SPARC/Solaris

We are pleased to announce the release for GCC For Sun Systems 4.2.0 cross compilers!
This is a Solaris/x86 hosted compiler with target code generation for
SPARC/Solaris systems. If you develop on your OpenSolaris, or Solaris
x86 laptop or desktop, you can now start compiling your sources for
SPARC systems. Almost all features available in the
native SPARC GCC For Sun Systems 4.2.0 compiler are available
for use in the cross compiler. Please refer to the mini cross compiler howto
page for additional details on install and usage, and gotchas in cross
    development environment.
Please continue to provide us your feedback and issues, which helps
    us make the product better.
    Thanks
    GCCFSS team

Can GCCFSS also cross compile from in reverse - from SPARC to x86/x64?
    Thank you

  • Solaris 8 on Intel and apps for Sparc

I have installed Solaris 8 on PC wit Intel processor
but when i tried to run applications compiled for Solaris 2.6 for Sparc or Ultrasparc
    they did not start .
Is there any way to start applications compiled for Solaris - Spark
    under Solaris for Intel ?
    And how if possible ?
Or the problem is elsewhere ?
    Thanks

No way. Different CPU architecture, you must
recompile the applications from source to intel
    binary code.
(Exception: shell scripts and other interpreted
languages, including byte code interpreters ("java"),
run on different solaris architectures without
    recompiling)

  • Quad gigaSwift Ethernet Driver for Solaris 10 Sparc

I have been looking about for this all over the place and cannot find it anywhere, in the manual and the sun site all the downloads are for solaris 9.
Are these cards not supported on Solaris 10 Sparc ?
    Cheers,
    Mike

it is the X4444A solaris 10 did pick up the card straight away, but the problem is there was no ce.conf file, i have created my own because i need to turn on jumbo frame for an individual port, but when i add it in all the ports on the card are being set to MTU 9800 so then i have to set them indivually to 1500 apart from the one i am using that needs to be 9000. This is all good and proper but when i activate this the box connects to the netapps server but all nfs shares fail as soon as anything touches these directories.
The netapps filer is running at MTU 9000 and the card is running at 9000 causes everything to fall over, set back to normal and everything is ok.
    Any ideas ?

  • License for cross-compilation for solaris 10 sparc on Linux x86

I'd like to do cross-compilation for solaris 10 sparc on Linux x86 using gcc (for linux). To do that, I have to copy libraries (/lib/64) and includes (/usr/include) from a sparc machine to my linux machine.
The compilation will be run on about (up to) 50 Linux machines (by various developers). We also have 3 solaris-10-SPARC machines.
I wonder if Solaris license allows me to copy the includes and libs to perform compilation elsewhere.
I also checked "OTN License Agreement for Oracle Solaris", but it looks like Oracle allows for installing "the programs" on up to 3 machines, but I need it on 50.
Thanks for any suggestions or redirections to a proper place where I can get an answer.
    Marek

When installing Solaris 10 01/06 on a Dell 1850 I receive an error message during the install saying "no disk found". I assume that the drive/controller is not recognized. The Dell 1850 is listed under the HCL for Solaris 10 10/06. I don't believe I can use the Solaris(TM) Device Driver for the LSI MegaRAID Adapter floppy with 1/06. I dont have any other Solaris boxes up so I cant build a jump start server. Any suggestions?

I found by issue "mount -v" that our disk slices are
UFS type. So we don't need apply patch 5257399,
right? Please confirm. Thanks!!!For your information, you are asking the user community to confirm, not Oracle. Some (many?) of us are not employed by Oracle.
Therefore, the only answers you can get are from 'friends'. Nothing would be official and Oracle (and Oracle Support) would not be legally responsible.
Your safest bet would be to escalate the request wityh Oracle Support.
