Solaris 8 (Intel) Install

I just downloaded solaris 8 and i stuck the cd back into the drive on one of my windows machines and there were only a couple files that werent that big. When it burned it said it burned 550mb and it took long enough so is it just that windows cant see the other files? Also how do I create a boot floppy for Solaris 8 because my cdrom drive wont boot of the cd. One more question is the installation of Solaris 8 in a dos like feel or does it actually have a GUI installer like Red Hat 7.1 and above?
Thanks in advance

Well you need at least two cds to install - Install CD 1 of 2 and install cd 2 of 2. There is another install cd that I think is for upgrading installed systems and one cd of documentation. Each file you download is an ISO CD image file. That file is copied sector by sector to the writable CD. Unless the cd you have contains a Solaris directory, its not cd 1 of 2. I am assuming you paid to download the software since the free download for Intel is no longer available - so I am not familiar with the selections or methods of delivery being used.
Images for the DCA diskette is at
http://soldc.sun.com/support/drivers/dca_diskettes/
along with instructions on creating a diskette from the diskette image.
The installation starts with a text based hardware install and once you select the interactive install, the GUI interface comes up.

Installation Guides should be clear enough, if read. Also read Release Notes for additional support/unsupport info.

  • Install Oracle on Solaris Intel

I have purchased Oracle8i Enterprise Edition, Release 2(8.1.6) for Intel Unix(Solaris Intel), and have installed successfully. However, as soon as I shut down and reboot the machine, I can connect to sqlplus
internal, but I cannot log into the database as "sys".
The procedure I did is as following:
Immediately after the installation (message says "installation successful"),
    1. Log in as user "oracle" in the Bourne shell.
    2. At the $ prompt, type "sqlplus internal"
    3. It come out with SQL prompt
    4. SQL> show user ( I typed show user under SQL prompt)
    5. Then it return "sys"
Things seemed to work fine at that point.
But, when I shut down and reboot the machine and logon again, and follow the same steps 1-5 as above, it did not work. When I did the "show user" command at SQL prompt, the user is not "sys", instead it returned
" ". I followed the installation guide and tried to reinstall 5 times.
Every time I had the same problem. I was wondering if this is a bug in
the CD. How can I solve it?
    Thanks,
    Lillian

  • Solaris 8 Intel install problems

I'm a noob to this, I try to install the Solaris 8 Intel on AMD XP as second os (XP Pro 1st os) but failed. I get this error message:
error: Configuration error - missing controller?
The root file system is not mounted and the configuration assistant has exited prematurely.
Booting is unlikely to succeed. CTRL-ALT-DEL may be used to reset the machine.
Failover to boot interpreter - type ctrl-d to resume boot
    >
I tried ctrl-d it didnt work like it said and give these error message:
    Cannot load drivers for
    (can't load the root filesystem)
    Please help, thank you

Did you get any help with these problems? I am worried now beacuse my install files are nothing like these sizes. I unzipped a v1-a to 128 Kb.
Did you find some isntructions? Could you forward them to me because I cannot find any. Thank you.
    Mike
    Hello,
I'm trying to create the 3 iso files from the Solaris
8 Intel download and am having
a problem with the iso formed file sizes. Two of the
    iso files, the "install.iso"
and "v1.iso" are larger than 700 meg. (which is the
limit on my CDs) They are
944 meg and 729 meg respectively.
The sun intructions say to create the iso files from
the zipped files I downloads after
unzipping them. Well, combining 3 files each into
each iso file for the CD image is
    creating these large iso images.
    Is this the right procedure?
Also, do I even need the install.iso image as I see a
lot of talk on the newsgroups
about starting a fresh Solaris 8 install with CD 1
    ("v1.iso")?
    Thank you!

  • Solaris 8 intel install problem

When my Solaris 8 install gets to the spot where it asks for the language to use (0-9, english is 0, which I want), anything I hit on my keyboard sends bogus VT codes to the screen. Earlier in the install process (when it asks for solaris interactive vs custom for example), my keyboard works fine, I can choose 1 or 2 there.
Has anyone else seen the problem? I've tried multiple keyboards, and they all do the same thing.

Sounds like the dell keyboard problem:

Did you try an USB keyboard? That's supposed to work around
    this bug...

  • Solaris intel (x86) DCA not saving when rebooted.

I'm working with a Panasonic CF-71 toughbook laptop. I have loaded the 2.6 Solaris intel OS and the Xig PCMCIA patch. I have been successful in getting a 3Com 3C589D card to work, but only if I enter into DCA at boot time and delete the PnP ISA PCMCIA device at port 3e2-3e3 and then add a ISA PCMCIA device at port 3e2-3e3. Unfortunately this must be done every time the system is rebooted. Does any one know of a way to do this delete/add using the /etc/system file? Any help is much appreciated.

    Hi
I have download Solaris 9 x86 and Cd1 at boot time gives the same error as you mentioned. I am using my Toshiba Satellite A60. I have check the HDL list and its not listed there. Does it mean I can not install Solaris 9 x86 on this box. When I boot I get the same error which is mentioned above.
For more information I never installed Solaris in past and have no idea which Disk space /partition to be created it talks about in Install Guide.
Can some please clarify and do let me know where am I going wrong and how to fix it.

  • RFC SDK support on solaris-intel?

I have some questions about the “C”  SAP RFC SDK. I cannot seem to find a complete list of supported UNIX platforms.
What is the current version of the “C” RFC SDK?
Is it supported on the solaris intel platform?
I notice that the dynamic version of the RFC library (rfc32.dll)  is installed with SAP Netweaver on Windows.  Is the equivalent dynamically loaded library (i.e. librfc.so) always included with a SAP installation on UNIX as well?  Does this mean that the static libraries provided in the RFC SDK are no longer required to build a client RFC application, since a client application can dynamically load the run-time library instead?

We don't certify Solaris on NT.
You can find this information on platform support page.

  • Oracle 9i for Solaris Intel

I would like to use my PC (x86 platform) to install Solaris 8 for Intel as a Database server. But I cannot found any information of Oracle 9i Database for Solaris Intel platform. WHere I can find it? Or Oracle don't support for Solaris for Intel (I found an Oracle 9i Database for Solaris SPARC only).
    Best regards

The last version of Oracle for Solaris X86 was Oracle 8.1.7...

  • Who knows - Has Oracle plan to make 9i on Solaris Intel x86 in the future?

Now Sun continue support of Solaris Intel, But Oracle release only 8.1.7 exist.
    Any comments,please

    Hi again,
    assumption proven ;-)
    full details from Oracle below
    HTH,
    Peter
Applies to: Oracle Server - Enterprise Edition - Version: 10.2.0.1
SymptomsWhile installing Oracle10gR2 on a Solaris 10 x86-64 server, Oracle Universal Installer (OUI) reports the following errors while checking the kernel parameters:
    shmsys:shminfo_shmmax=4294967295 found no entry . Failed <<
    shmsys:shminfo_shmmni=100 found no entry . Failed <<
    shmsys:shminfo_semmni=100 found no entry . Failed <<
    shmsys:shminfo_semmsl=256 found no entry . Failed <<
The overall results of this check is Failed.
The kernel parameters do not meet the minimum requirements
CauseOUI is looking at /etc/system to check the kernel parameter settings, but this file is not used (by default) in Solaris 10
OUI should check the kernel parameter settings using the resource control utility ( /bin/prctl )
SolutionTo implement the solution, please execute one the following steps:
    1. Verify that the kernel parameter settings are correct using the resource control utility ( /bin/prctl ) and then start OUI like this:
    ./runInstaller -ignoreSysPrereqs
    OR
    2. Include the recommended kernel parameter settings in the /etc/system file and start OUI as normal:
    ./runInstaller

I am supremely disappointed that Adobe is abandoning Encore far too soon. We, your PAYING customers still depend upon DVDs and BlueRays as the tangible deliverable to our paying customers.
I followed the directions for installing Premiere Pro CS6, and with some hiccups, finally got it to work. Unfortunately, I cannot figure out how to UNinstall. There is no Uninstaller inside the Premiere Pro folder (nore any of the CS6 aps). I'm on Windows 7 Pro, and there is no longer an Add/Remove Programs control panel. Can you tell me how I am supposed to uninstall?

  • OUD in Solaris Intel Architecture

    ODSM Deployment on amd64 i386
I am a Solaris Intel user interested in getting users to authenticate to Local OUD.
I need assistance using OUD  to add users via cli ( I am new to OUD )
in "netmgr" I already sees and able to authenticate Oracle cn=Directory Manager.
    Base DN : Oracle Content
Question: How do I add test users to a fully functional OUD running in Solaris 11.2 and Oracle12c with iPlanet installed.
Currently have no ODSM GUI in working status Due to RCU/Solaris Intel Incompativility issues. (Investigating)
    Comments are welcomed.
    Art.S

    Hello,
OUD ships with LDAP clis to add/modify users:
Assuming OUD instance is created in <instance>,
    go to <instance>OUD/bin
Here is an example to create user u1 with the ldapmodify command:
    ./ldapmodify -a -D "cn=directory manager" -w <password> -p <ldap port>
    dn: uid=u1,ou=people,dc=example,dc=com
    uid: u1
    objectclass: inetorgperson
    cn: u1
    sn: u1
    userPasswword: u1
If you have many users to create, you can use the ldapmodify command in batch mode
with the -f option . The -f option is foillowed by a LDIF file containing entries to be created.

I'm sure that Oracle8i server supports Solaris Intel Platform and Oracle9i doesn't support Solaris Intel Platform at this moment as I know.
