Solaris 8 on an Ultra 2 needs OPB Upgrade.

While installing 8 on an Ultra 2 the installation tells me it is defaulting to the 32 bit install and that I need OPB 3.11.2 firmware as a minimum? Where in the wide, wide world of sports can I get the OPB firmware upgrade for an Ultra 2 workstation?
TIA

) As root, copy the "flash-update" files from the directory containing the
patch to the root directory as follows:
# cp flash*latest /
# chmod 755 /flash-update*
In order to boot the binary, it must be located within the root
partition. If it is not already located within the root partition
then move it to /. If the binary is already located elsewhere
within the root partition then note the exact filepath so that the
binary can be booted later.
b) As root, exit the OS such that the system returns to the PROM''s "ok"
prompt:
# halt
ok
c) Power off the system.
** CAUTION ** Do not attempt to access any part of the system hardware
with the system power still on!
d) Remove the system top cover. (If you are unsure how to do this then
consult your system "Installation Guide" or "Service Manual".)
e) Set J2003 to write enable at 2+3. Default is write protect at 1+2
Locate jumper J2003. NOTE that a plug-in card may be installed in
the system which covers J2003 - if this is the case then you will
have to remove the plug-in card in order to access J2003.
Jumper J2003 provides a write enable/disable mechanism for the
Flash PROM. J2003 normally connects pins 1+2, which causes the
Flash PROM to be write protected. To enable patch installation,
write enable the Flash PROM by MOVING the J2003 jumper from pins 1+2
to pins 2+3.
**IMPORTANT NOTE**: If this jumper is NOT set to WRITE ENABLE, the
Flash update will fail.
(If you have difficulty locating J2003 then consult Figure 1-2 in the
"Sun Flash PROM Guide for Workstations and Workgroup Servers -
Standalone Version").
If a plug-in card was removed to access J2003 in the step above
then reinstall the card now.
f) Replace the system top cover.
5) Running the Flash Update Utility
a) Power on the system
Wait for the PROM''s banner to appear, and then
b) use the Stop-A keys (or Break key, if running from a serial line) to
abort the auto-boot sequence.
** NOTE ** If the flash update completes normally then the values
contained within the system''s Non-Volatile RAM (NVRAM) configuration
variables will be retained. However, if the update process is some-
how interrrupted then it is possible that any non-default values
contained in NVRAM will be lost. For this reason it is recommended
that you note down on paper the contents of any NVRAM configuration
variable which has been customized so that they may be manually
restored at a later time, if necessary. (Use the PROM''s "printenv"
command to list the variables and their values.)
c) The system should now display the PROM monitor''s "ok" prompt.
Now boot the Flash update utility as given below:
CAUTION: Do not boot/run revisions lower than the latest unless you
are absolutely sure that that is what you want to do!
ok boot disk /flash-update-Ultra2-latest
NOTE: If your system''s boot device is not "disk" then you will
have to specify the appropriate devalias (e.g. disk2).
If the binary is located in a location other than / then
provide the entire filepath after the boot device.

  • Installation of Solaris 10 in Ultra 5

I am a new guy to Ultra 5. I would like to install Solaris to this machine. Anyone can show me the steps to do that? or any documents on the net I can refer to? Great thanks in advance.

I assume you have a non-modified Ultra 5. Therefore it will only accept CDs not the DVD distribution of Solaris. If you have CDs that is great, if not download them from www.sun.com/solaris although these will need to be burnt at 2x or 4x or 8x, no faster, because else it causes booting problems.
Put in the first CD and then press STOP and A at the same time on your Sun Type 6 keyboard, and then type
boot cdromIf you are doing an install via a null modem cable, youll need to set a sequence rather than using STOP A.
From then just follow the on screen instructions, hope this helps. You will most probably need to understand a bit about UNIX disk systems and the Solaris Disk System and naming conventions. Google this and you should find some decent documentation at docs.sun.com ;-)

  • Do we need to upgrade the oracle 10.2.0.3 to oracle 10.2.0.4?

    Hi ,
I want know do we need to upgrade the oracle 10.2.0.3 to oracle 10.2.0.4. If so,can you please share the advantages of this up-gradation.
For your info, we have a prod oracle database on 10.2.0.3 on sun Solaris 64bit.
    Thanks in Advance
    Thanks
    Sri

We do not know whether you need to but we can advise you with respect to the issues.
    1. If you have a bug in 10.2.0.3 that is fixed in 10.2.0.4 then you should.
    2. If you do not wish to work with software in desupport mode you should really be thinking about moving to 11.1.0.7 before August 1st.
    3. If the application supported by your database supports a higher, more recent, version of Oracle then you should.

  • Solaris 11/11 to 11.1 upgrade procedure

    All,
I'm using a vbox s11 instance as an install server and need to upgrade it to 11.1, and then serve 11.1 from that. Having trouble working out what's actually needed.
What does the 'pre-upgrade' iso actually do and is it needed, or can you just update directly from an 11.1 repo image? Not having had two versions of S11 on an install server before, how does the 11.1 full repo co-exist with the 11/11 repo that's already there? In S10 I would simply have made another directory for it but now things aren't so clear.
Anyone done this upgrade and know what's going on?
    cm/

Here's an example of how IPS can leave a bad taste. I call this getting wedged into an incorporation spaghetti mess:
I have followed the steps listed here for updating from the release repo to the tee. At the last step halted here. I know I could sort through this given enough time, but that's the point - a time waster. Hoping someone with x-ray vision can see through to the root problem. Perhaps not on 11 11 to start (see uname -a at bottom)? How then to roll back - a big issue in IPS, which wants to keep you rolling forward.

  • KT3 Ultra Deluxe Processor Upgrade Question

I purchased a Computer, custom built by a local shop(before I got into the spyware/virus removal business and woulda possibly tried to build my own) a few years back, and it has been a great system except that now the one online game I play, Everquest, is running slow when 30+ players are on the screen.   Other friends with brand new computers experience no lag/choppyness...  The lag is only experienced with multiple players on screen.
With some friends, we have decided that it is not my Video card or anything else in the system, but the processor that needs upgrading.
    I have :
AMD AthlonXP 1800(1507mhz in bios i think)
MSI KT3 Ultra Deluxe(VIA KT333 chipset based) (it has RAID, so im assuming the ARU model)
    1024mb PC2100 or PC2700 ram..(not sure how to check)
    NVidia GeforceFX5500 256mb Video
    Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy
Maxtor 7200rpm 40gb hard drive on Raid IDEs(set as dummy IDEs, not RAID)
Maxtor 7200rpm 80gb hard drive on Raid IDEs(set as dummy IDEs, not RAID)
    Lite on 16x DVD-Rom drive(Primary IDE master)
    Plextor 8/4/4/2/12 DVD-RW PX-708A(Secondary IDE Master)
Originally windows98 installed by the store.
Reformatted twice and Windows 2000 installed presently.
a SMC $10 junk NIC that I will be replacing with a 3com cause im tired of it after 2months(my good netgear FA311 went bad)
What I am wanting a definite answer on, is whether I can stick a 2600mhz, 333 Barton Athlon XP in this.
I have searched the forums and most topics say yes/no... 50/50...  so im confused.
Is it possible to put the 2600 in there...  will that even help...  on player movement/etc in the game..(a friend with a similar system and a Radeon X800 Pro 256mb sees no difference and has similar lag to me(only in large player raids with multiple players on screen))
I am just trying to see if I can spend $100 to throw a Barton 333 2600mhz in here and I think that should help it..
or if I have to spend $250+ to possibly get a new PS, ram, processor/mobo the works.
    So.. is it possible?
How much work would be put into it, besides
Turn system off, unscrew the fan/heatsink, pop the processor out
    put the new processor in.
    Put the new heatsink/fan on
    start the system?
Or is there going to be alot of.....  BIOS work involved.

    Friend has very similar system
    1700 AthlonXP
    1gig ram
ATI Radeon X800 256mb(a premier card I thought?   as in performance) Pro
He experiences lag/choppiness same as me, at times with 30+ users on the screen/game.
I had read that officially Barton was impossible, im just asking if there is anyway to put a barton on it and will it work/how much work will it end up needing.
266mhz 2600s arent available anywhere I look....   no 266mhz is actually..
So Im just fearing ill need to upgrade the entire motherboard too.. and may be better off getting a new barebones kit.
Its not gradual... its just when 30 players/characters are on the screen.... especially when they move... it gets choppy, take the number down to 10... and its lag free/choppy free.
    5v and 3.3v = 245 max watts
    5v, 3.3v and 12v = 380 max watts
    115/230 Volts
    3.3=28A
    5=40A
    12=18A
The NIC is being ordered as im typing this...   hopefully a 3com NIC will provide better power than a SMC 10$ replacement for my netgear FA311...
It has to be either the NIC or the processor.
The reason for this im just saying.. is my friend has sound blaster audigy, similar processor(1700), cheap nic, a MSI mobo, not sure if its Ultra3 or not... and has very similar issues to me, despite throwing $350 down on that Radeon X800 256mb Pro, supposedly the best video card you can get.
It didnt relieve hardly any of his lag... and hes quite....   happy about it... /sarcasm

  • Sign of a bad CPU need to upgrade CPU.

i have HP pavilion DV6-1211 ax
My lappy does not start, caps nad num lock led blinks one time for an interval. I have alrerady asked in the forum and found that its a sign of a bad cpu.
I asked HP servce center, they told me that i will get the same cpu(AMD Turion RM-75), But i need to upgrade my CPU, i looked into service manual of my laptop model and found "AMD Turion Ultra dual core ZM-87" is compatible with my lappy.
So i want to ask you that is it possible that hp will do this upgrade for me ?? i also found that HP pavillion  DV6-1280 ax has got the exact same config that i want to put on my laptop.
So if i ask hp to take AMD RM-75 and give me back ZM-87 will they dio it for me....??
    guyz please help...
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Absolutely no way will HP upgrade the CPU for you and besides that, the problem is not likely the CPU at all but the motherboard. The blink codes are often incorrect because they originate in the motherboard and if the motherboard is bad it will give bad signals.

  • I have a macbook 4.1 with osx10.6.8 and just added memory (2gig) so I could sync my new Ipome and Ipad.  and Ipad. Now I'm told I need to upgrade my operating system. The apple store gave me conflicting instructions. Any suggestions? Thanks

I have a macbook 4.1 with osx10.6.8 and just added memory (2gig) so I could sync my new IPhone and Ipad. Now I'm told at the apple store that I need to upgrade my operationg system. They said they couldn't help and gave me conflicting advice about what to do. Any ideas? Thanks you!

There are three models of MacBook that comprise the 'macbook 4.1' category, and each of them a little different; however other than 'macbook 4.1' the other thing they have in common is they all are considered Early 2008. Two are white, one black, polycarbonate case, Core2Duo 2.1GHz, 2.4GHz white, 2.4GHz black.
So if you can determine which one, if any of these, is the model build year and spec you have, that would be handy. Did you tell whoever you spoke to the serial number of your computer, so they'd know by looking up the specs to see what the supported maximum RAM upgrade capacity was, and other minimum requirements to make any upgrade to Mac OS X 10.6.8 at all?
If you have the serial number you can do a lookup to 'indentify by serial number' online, and use that information to determine if the computer needs even more RAM to take it past the minimum for Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and then get it ready to upgrade (via paid download from App Store, Snow Leopard gets you that far) and see what the next supported OS X full upgrade would be for the hardware limitations on that old MacBook.
If your MacBook IS a 4.1 build, the highest OS X it could run if it has the 2.4GHz cpu, is Lion 10.7.5. That would be an upgrade from the App store, available to OS X 10.6.8+ computers that access it online. And I kind of doubt how supported a newest iphone etc may be in lion.
everymac.com has a fair amount of information across many years of Apple computing hardware...
Here's the three MacBooks that share the 4.1 designation; first shipped with as much as 1GB RAM upgrade and the other two only a 2GB RAM*, (one white/one black color) according to this information...
    • MacBook "Core 2 Duo" 2.1 13" (White-08) 2.1 GHz Core 2 Duo (T8100)
    • MacBook "Core 2 Duo" 2.4 13" (White-08) 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo (T8300)
    • MacBook "Core 2 Duo" 2.4 13" (Black-08) 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo (T8300)
    ...as seen here: http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook/index-macbook.html
*But according to MacTracker (free: download database) http://mactracker.ca
these MacBooks can use more RAM in aftermarket specs as much as:
    Maximum Memory
6.0 GB (Actual) 4.0 GB (Apple)
    Memory Slots
    2 - 200-pin PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMM
To get more information use a service such as this...
    •identify by serial number:
    http://www.powerbookmedic.com/identify-mac-serial.php
The Apple? store or whoever you talked, to may have been as accurate as they could be without further research. Could be you may have a newer or older MacBook, which would change whatever later OS X it could run past 10.6.8. And to go past Snow Leopard, you need to download the last bits for 10.6.x to be able to go and get any later upgrade. The ones that may let a newest iphone or ipad work with it, are past SL10.6.8
Anyway, as you further verify the model build year and configuration specifications, report back.
    Good luck & happy computing!

    Hi Chefjeegar
Yes that screwdriver kit has the #00 phillips screwdriver that you need to access the RAM and hard drive. You'll also need the Torx driver to change the hard drive. http://www.amazon.co.uk/LINDY-Computer-Technician-Precision-Torx/dp/B0000934GO/r ef=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1348072554&sr=1-1
For a good explanation about RAM look at the page on OWC http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/MacBook/DDR2/
In the UK Amazon or eBay might be your best bet for cheap RAM but read the description and reviews carefully. For a little more expensive but with a better warranty is Crucial UK http://www.crucial.com/uk/
A good resource for working on your MacBook is ifixit.com http://www.ifixit.com/Device/MacBook_Core_2_Duo
Is your external hard drive formatted for Mac? To transfer your current hard drive I like the free application Carbon Copy Cloner. It makes a bootable copy of everything on your hard drive http://www.bombich.com/index.html Check that it's set up right by booting up from the external drive. Put the new drive in your MacBook, then format and partition the new drive. Then use Carbon Copy Cloner to transfer your OS back to the new drive.
Yes, you can put an SSD in the MacBook.

I had a 640GB HDD in my Early 2008 Macbook and it was just too much it would always freeze up the computer a bit for only a few seconds but ya. Then I realized that it was the size of the HDD that was causing it since the Early 2008 Macbook models can only handle a MAX od 500GB while the Early 2008 Macbook Pros could have a MAX of 640GB (Lucked out there!) lol But ya the Early 2008 Mocbooks can only handle a MAX HDD size of 500GB and that's it!! lol

    Hi jcm2656,
iMovie ’09 does not support the Sony HDr-PJ230 camcorder. See this article for a list of cameras supported for that version of iMovie -
    iMovie '09: Camcorder Support
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3290#1
iMovie ’11 however, does support it. See this article -

  • I noticed that Find My iPhone on iCloud hasn't worked since iOS 8 came out. My device uses iOS 7. My question is: do I need to upgrade my device? If not, what should I do? I do not wish to upgrade my device.

I noticed that Find My iPhone on iCloud hasn't worked since iOS 8 came out. Whenever I try to use it, it always says "All Devices Offline." This is regardless of whether I am in a good Wi-Fi zone or not.  I like to use Find My iPhone to remotely track my battery charging status whenever my phone is charging in a different room. That's been really handy, which is why I really need to get this fixed. No matter what computer I use, the problem is always the same.
My device uses iOS 7. My question is: do I need to upgrade my device? If not, what should I do? I do not wish to upgrade my device, especially considering the bad things I've heard about iOS 8.
    Feedback would be welcome ASAP.

You don't need to update to iOS 8 to use Find My iPhone.  If you haven't already tried, go to Settings>iCloud>Find My iPhone and turn it off, then reset your phone (hold the sleep/wake and home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo, then release).  After it restarts, turn Find My iPhone back on and see if it works properly now.

  • I need to upgrade the silverlight version that is deployed with the SCCM 2012 client installation

We have SCCM 2012 SP1 installed and I need to upgrade the version of silverlight that get installed on the client deployement.
The version that is automaticly deployed is 5.1.10411.0 and this one is not compatible with Firefox.  When you click on Application Catalog it start the browser but it fails to load because of the silverlight plug-in that is not up to date.  The
version that is working fine is the 5.1.20913.0 and it's already installed on my SCCM site server.
So that is why I'm looking to upgrade the silverlight that is installed with the SCCM client.
I know that a simple workarround would be to create a package that would be deployed after the client gets installed, but why not changing the original package at the source instead of installing twice the same software the get the right version!
Is there someone that could point me where I could upgrade this Silverlight prerequirement software version ?

Note that I have not tested either of these and they will not be supported by Microsoft.
    1. Copy your new version of Silverlight.exe to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Configuration Manager\Client\i386
(you'll have to re-distribute the client package after this).
    OR
    2. You could edit the ccmsetup.xml file with an alternative location for silverlight.exe

I have an older iPhone (3gs) and need to upgrade to a newer phone (4S).  I need to get my NOTES, CALENDAR, CONTACTS, PICTURES, etc backed up on iTunes so I can get that data loaded onto the new phone.  But not sure how to do that.  When I open iTunes it has a button that say "Back Up iPhone", but I'm not sure what that does.  When I go into the sync options it say I have another user account and asks me if I want to merge of replace. I'm assuming it's trying to tell me I have an older iTunes Library, but don't know that.  Geez, maybe people over 60 shouldn't have iPhones, iTunes just bafles me.
