Solution
This should be documented in the patch's README as the answer will vary with each patch.
If the patch's README is not documented, then the Post Install tasks should be run.
And this is what the OCTCPU09 README says:
3.3.3 Post Installation Instructions for Databases Created or Upgraded after Installation of CPUOct2009 in the Oracle Home
These instructions are for both non-RAC environments and RAC environments when a database is created or upgraded after the installation of CPUOct2009.
You must execute the steps in Section 3.3.2.1, "Loading Modified .sql Files into the Database" for any new database only if it was created by any of the following methods:
Using DBCA (Database Configuration Assistant) to select a sample database (General, Data Warehouse, Transaction Processing)
Using a script that was created by DBCA that creates a database from a sample database
Hope that helps.Point taken that it could vary by patchset, but those particular instructions quoted square exactly with what I had said. To quote with emphasis:
"You must execute the steps . . . for any new database *only if* it was created by any of the following methods . . ."
And what are those methods? Creating the database from a sample (pre-patch) database. If one uses dbca to create a 'custom' database, the resulting scripts will start from scratch with a CREATE DATABASE command - no pre-patch version sample or seed database involved.

Webi scheduling error in BO 4.0 SP04 after security patch updates in windows server 2008 R2

We are getting below error in BO 4.0 SP04 Web Intelligence report scheduling after security patch updates in windows server 2008 R2
while trying to invoke the method com.businessobjects.sdk.core.server.IServer.getServerContext() of an object returned from com.businessobjects.rebean.wi.impl.services.DocumentInstanceManagementServiceImpl.getServer(com.businessobjects.sdk.core.context.IContext, com.businessobjects.rebean.wi.model.engine.IDocumentInstance)
We have reverted back security patch but still giving above scheduling problem in BO 4.0 SP04 WebI and we can view and refresh report.
Is there any way to fix the scheduling problem in BO 4.0 SP04 WebI?

After security patch 03/04/2014 OSX 10.7.5, first one, then a second, external backup drive no longer recognized. Diagnostics for the FireWire one displays brand name of unit, but Time Machine and its own app don't see it. Where do I start?

Yesterday I installed the security patch, OSX 10.7.5 to my IMac that is about 2 years old.
Today my Seagate BackupPlus for Mac will power on but is not recognized. It does not show up as a device, Time Machine says the latest backup was DELAYED, last successful at 03/04/2014 9:35 PM (yesterday) and next backup would begin when the disk was connected. An error message I did not save said basically the drive was not recognized.   I did all drive's troubleshooting steps, including installing a newer version of their app. I tried swapping USB for FireWire, changing electrical outlets, etc.
It seems a bit coincidental to have 2 drives "fail" simultaneously. Is anyone else having this issue after this security patch? What would be the approach from the Mac side? TIA for any assistance.
Please see below regarding the second drive. Is this a red herring, or does it help pinpoint where the failure might lie?
I also have a Seagate GoFlex that WAS recognized until I did the troubleshooting on the other drive. When I put it back on after testing the other drive with FireWire, it now is no longer recognized.

Thirdly, in after one of the testing/reboot loops, the HP WiFi printer was no longer recognized, but after a few more it came back.

I have a similar problem.
Moreover, as my external drive is split in 2 for (a) regular storage // (b) time machine usage, I can see in the Finder that I can connect to the (a) regular storage part and use it normally (image 1).
And I cannot connect to the backup part in Finder , nor see it in Disk Utility, nor use it in Time Machine (although it's listed in the Time Machine preferences, image 2), as it does not connect (image 3).
Can somebody help?

Critical security patches on Solaris 9

Hi.
My director asked me to install critical security patches on our solaris 9 servers. Previously I downloaded that 9_recommended patch from sunsolve.com and install the whole patch clusters. My question is how can I ONLY get all those patches which are critical to the security issue? The recommended patch cluster includes a lot patches which are not relevant to security.
BTW, does anybody know some autopatching tools?

In deadlock after every release of security patch

After a security patch release is available the user has to visit the download page which
can "speak" only Flash using the vulnerable installation of Flash Player.
That means the user must expose own system to attacks in order to download the patched version.
What bad concept. Where is the Adobe specialist responcible for the concept?
Please do not claim one can trust the Adobe server and download page.
Nowadays, there is no one server nor url trustful.
Certificate issuers are not trustfull - see accidents from few last months.
So, the more the servers nor internet sides can be trustfull.

Most of normal and PC non-freaks willl look there for downloads/updates.

Additionally, this page should not use Flash Player.
Just to avoid a dead-lock when an update includes security patches.
Additionally, as JackMcNac states it above the links to off-line

Performace problem in oracle DB after Solaris 10 recommended patching

Dear All,
We are facing some performance problems in our oracle DB qerries and reports recently. We applied Solaris 10 recommended patchset on april 24th. Our monthly report generation acitivity is now running for last 3 days i.e may 11,12,13 and application team is complaining of degraded performance. I can see that the cpu usage on the server is about 100% during the report generation , but everything else is fine. Free memory is 15gb , all mountpoints are under 80% and there is no other hardware issue as well.
Now app team is suspecting that last month patching could be the cause of the problem, because till last month they were performing this activity without having a performance degradtion.
I just need to be sure that solaris 10 recommended patches are not causing this issue. Any of you ever faced such an issue after patch installation ?
The server is V490 with 8 cpu / 32gb RAM. Any hints will be appreciated ?

IMac suddenly unstable after last security patch

I don't remember exactly when I updated my OS with the last security patch, but I do know that before that time my machine was rock-solid, never crashing. Since that update it crashes about 4 or 5 times per day. Sometimes I get the gray screen of near death, sometimes I simply get a freeze. There's no other new software or hardware that could account for my problems - just the OS security patch.
The crashes appear to be random. Sometimes when I launch Safari, once or twice while reading mail, and several times while the machine was sitting idle. I'm not even sure where to start looking for a potential conflict. It's been a long, long time since I had to diagnose an unstable Mac. Any guidance would be appreciated.

The problems you're describing are identical to mine over the past few weeks. The computer will be running when I walk away. It goes to sleep (all black screen) and when I return and wiggle the mouse the screen will wake at full brightness, but often the clock in the top right stopped minutes or hours earlier. Can't force quit - have to hold the power button to restart.
After much research on a variety of boards, I deleted the InputManagers from User/Library/InputManagers and manually removed others. I've been running Console and individually tracking down each error that seems worth consideration. This topic needs more attention. I've contributed to another thread here:

After MS Security Patch KB960715 Report Templates bring back all zeros

We are on 5.0 MS Excel 2003 Windows XP SP3. A security patch came down that effectively kills ActiveX. Since the patch was installed (and removed), reports that I have been using for years no longer retrieve data.
When I rewrite from scratch with evdre or evget, data will come back for up to 48 cells, but after that everything comes back = 0.
All data in the facttable is in tact and optimized, etc.
Are there any fixes available?

We found the error.
The dimension size SQL maximums were OK, but the Access Maximums were too high.
Nothing to do with the patch.
Answer was found by searching through old trouble tickets previously logged at Outlooksoft.

There you can run a diagnostic procedure. Furthermore this application lists all audio and video files (drivers) which cause a error.
Check this and like Ivan said try to install the latest DirectX. I think at this time its a 9.0c

Cmd biee service windows left only one after win. cumulative security patch

Customer (3-5456748787) reported that the cmd obiee service windows left only one (instead of the usual two) after applying window cumulative security patches.
No change was made to the shortcut Start BI Services and they like to find out why they are getting one cmd window now.
Customer installed the 11115 environment using Simple Install option.
Everything else is working fine as normal. Any idea why and what caused the cmd window to disappear?
I can't find vcap image for 11115 Simple Install option. Anyone has one environment that I can verify this?

I could not check this as I do not have any environment at the moment, but I think this is due to the changes in the 11.1.1.5 installation modes.
If I am right, the "Start BI Services" through the windows start menu, starts the BI weblogic servers and then the opmn and the nqserver processes. In 11.1.1.5 Simple mode, there is only one weblogic server (Admin Server) and there is only one command window.
I am sorry if I got this wrong.

Meanwhile Microsoft describes this problem in KB923762

After updating with the recent security patch I now have constant spinning colour wheel almost every key stroke is responded to by the wheel. Can this be fixed?

Since installing the recent security patch I am getting the spinning colour wheel on almost every keystroke in Finder and in Gmail. Any way to speed up - or is this the result of the new security measures?
