Hii everyone
My Server SUN 5.8 has rebooted itself after having been generated internally out of the ordinary events related to CPU.
The log en the file.messages and output of prtdiag is:

I don't know exactly what is the origin of the problem, How to solver or how to prevent to avoid further problems. This is the first time I have had this Kind of problem on my Server SUN.
I appreciate greatly, any tip o help.

Unless you've somehow maintained a service contract on that system,
by specific system serial number,
your best bet is to haunt an online auction site (such as Ebay),
and get a replacement cpu or cpus for shelf stock.
Your current OBP patch level is only down two patch levels,
but your kernel patch level is essentially "never patched".
If it were patched better it may have noticed the issue a lot sooner.
Expect to replace that cpu.

How to install Solaris 10 on sun ultra enterprise 450
I just got a used sun ultra enterprise 450 and need to get a username and password. If I cannot get easily how do I reinstall the OS. What OS can I put on its? I am new to some equipment. It also came with a a storage unit for extra hard drives and how would I use it and set it up also?
It now says type ctrl-d. What do I do?

Go to Docs.Sun.Com and get the system's documentation. Also go get the OBP 3.x Command Reference manual while you are there. All you questions are answered in that documentation, except for those that are easily found with Google.

Install Solaris 10 Sparc on Ultra 40
I am trying to install solaris 10 Sparc on an Sun Ultra 40 i386 pc. Is that able to be done. I have libraries that only work on sparc machines. Thanks for any help.
SPARC and i386 are different CPUs. They are not compatible.
You run SPARC installations on SPARC hardware, you run x86 installations on x86 hardware.

How to remove firefox 2 from solaris 10 sparc (Sun Blade 100)
I need to remove firefox 2 from a Sun Blade 100 running Solaris 10 ( s10s_u4wos_12b sparc ).
Mistakenly I installed firefox 3.6.14 unaware I had firefox 2 installed on the system.
Currently, firefox 3.6.14 crashes constantly (completely unstable) and adjustments to PATH variable do not seem to hold.
May I get help in removing both firefox 2 and firefox 3.6.14 and then a re-install of firefox 3.6.14?
Location of firefox 2 is /usr/bin/firefox
Location of firefox 3.6.14 is /opr/firefox
In advance, thanks for the help.My guess is that you have already completed this upgrade, but in the event that you haven't I recommend that you use NFS to either mount a DVD from another server or else copy the OS DVD to a local drive on a server that has a DVD drive and then NFS mount the file system on the server you are trying to upgrade. I use NFS fairly often for upgrades and for patching. I have one server that has a file system that contains the source code from the installation DVD and another file system that contains the most current patch cluster.

Solaris 10 on Sun Ultra 40 --PCI system error on /bus/device/function 0048h
Everytime I boot to Solaris 10 (08/07) I get the following message at the top of my screen:
PCI system error on /bus/device/function 0048h
The system boots up successfully, but I find this error to be particularly annoying. I have no third-party cards plugged into any PCI slot.
Why am I getting this error. Is the BIOS just giving me a bogus error?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
RobertHello,
I even got the same Problem with an Ultra 40. After powering off and on the system during the last 3 days, now i got an error mesage, "CPU3 can not be started"
cleared the CMOS and now i am back on "PCI System Error on Bus/Device/Function 0048h" the system is running with the latest 1.7 Bios update.
First of all I tried to flash the system back to an lower version but the flashsoftware seems not to support this operation have to make own boot media with the flashprogramme and flash by forced the 1.0 or 1.2 version.

Unable to install Solaris Sparc 10 on SUN Ultra 10
Downloaded ISO of SPARC 10 DVD from Oracle site, burnt it and tried to install on SUN Ultra 10 (300 MGz / 256 MB RAM / 80 GB IDE HDD)
Followed the process as specified below:
1. Stop+A to stop the current boot process.(Already SPARC 8 is installed)
2. AT OK prompt typed boot cdrom
3. After some time (3-5 min) prompting error
*"boot device: /pci@1f,0/pci@1,1/ide@3/cdrom@2,0:f File and args:*_
Panic - Kernel : kmem64 allocation failure+_
Program Terminated+_

Checked in few blogs and burnt another DVD with less writing speed, still same error.
Checked with Sparc 8 CD's, Sparc 5.8 installing without any errors.985393 wrote:

If I recall correctly, Solaris 10 needs a minimum of 768MB of RAM to install and 1GB or more of RAM to run, even if you had a cpu that was fast enough to run anything.
Perhaps consider it this way:
Would you even dream of trying to install MS Windows 7 on a Pentium-I at 300MHz?
Stay with your Solaris 8. It's from the same late 1990's era as that hardware and fits it just right. -

I don't think it is a kernel problem but a h/ware problem.
CPU 1 reported an ecache (sram) data parity event,
the fault handling code in 5.9 can't do anything about the
error as it is in a page belonging to a user process so it reboots the box.
The no error found in ecache means that either the
fault handling code displaced the error from the cache or there
wasn't one and you had a transient transport error between the
cache and the cpu.
I would engage your h/ware support vendor to work out what h/ware component is broken as these things are quite complex, but the score of 95 would (to a h/ware novice like me) point to cpu 1 being the culprit - but check with an expert.

Oracle 10g R2 installation on sun solaris 10 Sparc machine
Hi there,
I encountered the following problem during oracle 10g R2 installation on sun solaris 10 Sparc machine
Error encountered:
Using paramFile: /u01/Oracle/10gr2_db_sol/install/oraparam.ini
Checking installer requirements...
Checking operating system version: must be 5.8, 5.9 or 5.10. Actual 5.10
Passed
Checking Temp space: must be greater than 250 MB. Actual 2266 MB Passed
Checking swap space: must be greater than 500 MB. Actual 2335 MB Passed
Checking monitor: must be configured to display at least 256 colors Failed <<<<
>>> Could not execute auto check for display colors using command /usr/openwin/bin/xdpyinfo. Check if the DISPLAY variable is set.
Some requirement checks failed. You must fulfill these requirements before
continuing with the installation,at which time they will be rechecked.
Continue? (y/n) [n]
The following were the steps taken before encountering the above error
1. logged into a workstation
2. From its xterm terminal I logged to the oracle server via ssh oracle@ip
3. keyed in the following at the command prompt
DISPLAY=machine_name:0.0; export DISPLAY
4. executed the following from the command prompt
./runInstaller
Note: when executing the ./runInstaller, the preinstallation checking just hangs at Checking monitor: must be configured to display at least 256 colors. But the log file shows it failed during preinstallation checking as shown in Error encountered
Please help me with this problem.
Thank you
Ravindran KanniahIt is because of UNIX shell. I also faced this error during installation.
First check your shell by the following command.
$ echo $SHELL
Then select the below.
For csh shell
$ setenv DISPLAY 192.168.1.128:0.0
$ export DISPLAY
For sh,ksh and bash
$ DISPLAY=192.168.1.128:0.0
$ export DISPLAY
After you do this check the value of DISPLAY variable.
$ echo $DISPLAY
If the DISPLAY variable is set then run ./runInstaller.
One advice: Keep a complete log of your terminal session. This will help you in future :)

SAP 7.0 on SUN Cluster 3.2 (Solaris 10 / SPARC)
Dear All;
i'm installing a two nodes cluster (SUN Cluster 3.2 / Solaris 10 / SPARC), for a HA SAP 7.0 / Oracle 10g DataBase
SAP and Oracle softwares were successfully installed and i could successfully cluster the Oracle DB and it is tested and working fine.
for the SAP i did the following configurations
# clresource create -g sap-ci-res-grp -t SUNW.sap_ci_v2 -p SAPSID=PRD -p Ci_instance_id=01 -p Ci_services_string=SCS -p Ci_startup_script=startsap_01 -p Ci_shutdown_script=stopsap_01 -p resource_dependencies=sap-hastp-rs,ora-db-res sap-ci-scs-res
# clresource create -g sap-ci-res-grp -t SUNW.sap_ci_v2 -p SAPSID=PRD -p Ci_instance_id=00 -p Ci_services_string=ASCS -p Ci_startup_script=startsap_00 -p Ci_shutdown_script=stopsap_00 -p resource_dependencies=sap-hastp-rs,or-db-res sap-ci-Ascs-res
and when trying to bring the sap-ci-res-grp online # clresourcegroup online -M sap-ci-res-grp
it executes the startsap scripts successfully as following

ARSSESHi all.
I am having a similar issue with a Sun Cluster 3.2 and SAP 7.0
Scenrio:
Central Instance (not incluster) : Started on one node
Dialog Instance (not in cluster): Started on the other node
When I create the resource for SUNW.sap_as like
clrs create --g sap-rg -t SUNW.sap_as .....etc etc
in the /var/adm/messages I got lots of WAITING FOR DISPACHER TO COME UP....
Then after timeout it gives up.
Any clue? What does is try to connect or waiting for? I hve notest that it's something before the startup script....

Installation of Solaris 10 on SUN Sparc M4000
Hi
I am trying to install Solaris 10 on SUN SPARC M4000.
Here is the error I have:
+Enter filename [kernel/sparcv9/unix]: /platform/sun4v/kernel/sparcv9/unix+
+Enter default directory for modules [platform/sun4v/kernel /kernel /usr/kernel]:+
krtld: load_exec: fail to expand cpu/$CPU
krtld: error during initial load/link phase
panic - boot: exitto64 returned from client program
Program terminated
It seems that version of Solaris I trying to install is not support by the Hardware, when I use another Solaris 10 DVD, it works...
But the problem is that I need to install this Solaris version because others softwares are depending on that.
If someone knows how to make this installation possible, it will be very helpfull.
Thanks in advance.

Install package for Firefox 30.0 on Sun Solaris 10 SPARC?
Looking for the latest Sun Solaris 10 SPARC package for Firefox 30. It appears it either has not been posted yet or development of Firefox on Sun Solaris has halted.
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/latest/contrib/

http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/30.0/contrib/

Package name should be similar to "firefox-30.0.en-US.solaris-10-fcs-sparc-pkg.bz2".
Thank you!Mozilla does not tar packages for all linux platforms, but some third party repositories do. I did find: [http://unixpackages.com/packages/mozilla]

Upgrade from Solaris 8 SPARC with Sun cluster 3.1u3 to Solaris 10 SPARC
Dear All,
We are planning an upgrade of the OS from Solaris 8 SPARC to Solaris 10 SPARC on a two-node active-standby clustered system.
The current major software we have on the Solaris 8 system are:
1: Sun Cluster 3.1u3
2: Oracle 9i 9.2.0.8
3: Veritas File System Vxfs v4.0
4: Sun Solaris 8 2/04 SPARC
Any pointers as to what sequence and how the upgrade should be done?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Rayyes I know it can be quite complicated and complex, but Sun provided us with a detailed documentation, at least in our case Solaris 9 to 10 it was very helpful.
You might get better help in the cluster forum http://forums.sun.com/forum.jspa?forumID=842

Installation of Solaris on an old Sun Ultra 2
I have acquired an old Sun Ultra 2 and would like to install Solaris on it. One slight problem I have is that there is no floppy or CD drives. The only drive I have attached to the device is a tape drive, and I don't have solaris tape media. Could anyone offer a suggestion as to how I can install Solaris on this machine. Thanks in Advance
Do you have a disk drive inside Sun Ultra 2?.
If yes, you can do a network installation from another system (like
linux or another Solaris box). The Solaris media are available
from Sun web site.
