Solaris 8 to Solaris 10 upgrade for oracle 11i

Hi
Need to upgrade my 11i (11.5.9) apps from Solaris 8 to Solaris 10
It will also be a 32 bit to 64 bit conversion
Has anyone done this before. or can specify the any major obstacles.
Thanks

Dear Bansi
I did something similar on HP-UX but you can mainly follow this
1- Check Certification matrix against Solaris 10
2- Install 64 bit engine of 9iR2 using 9iR2 CD's without creation of a database
3- Patch the engine with the same patch level your database on it [9.2.0.3 is standard DB level for 11.5.9 CD's ] If you want to update this level than the existing to be latest [ie 9.2.0.6 check notes and certification matrix] you should do this step after next step
4- Attach your 11.5.9 database to that engine
5- Copy configurations files from old engine to the new engine [appsutil]
6- Copy Applications in similar locations [If migrate to another server using Solaris 10]
7- If you will change any Application paths or database path consider changing context file and rerun autoconfig

  • Solaris 10 patches for Oracle Database 11gR2

    Hi,
I downloaded Oracle Solaris 10 s/w from e-Delivery and got it installed. For Oracle Database 11gR2 I also need the followging patches:
    120754-06: SunOS 5.10_x86 libmtsk
    119961-05: SunOS 5.10_x86: Assembler
119964-14: SunOS 5.10_x86 Shared library patch for C++_x86
Though we have access to MyOracleSupport we can only download s/w patches using our support contract with Oracle and not OS patches.
Is there any other way I can get these patches.
    Rgds,
    Thiru.

    Thiru,
You won't find the patches in the patches/ directory on the DVD or the ISO image. Oracle integrates the patches directly into the packages, so there is no need to provide or install them separately.
All patches have a patch number (e.g. 120754) and a revision (e.g. 06). A newer revision of a patch always contains all fixes of the previous revisions. So try to run "showrev -p | grep 120754" instead, and you'll see that patch 120754-08 is pre-installed. As revision 08 is newer/higher than 06, the patch requirement is satisfied.
    Hope that helps,
    mp.

    Hello everyone,
I have been asked to prepare a proposal for Oracle Financial Application UPGRADE from 11.0.3 to 11.5.6.
Though I have a fair knowledge about Oracle Financials, but I do not have any standard proposal templates
    related to 11i upgrade.
Specifically, I am looking for some standard proposal templates highlighting the best practices, preferred approach, methodologies, work flow, obstacles etc. OR whatever is available.
Can anyone help me by providing some standard proposal templates on this issue?

  • Upgrade of oracle 11i database 9.2.0.6 to 9.2.0.8

    Hi ,
I want upgrade oracle 11i applcation in to r12. for that 1st i need to upgrade my databse 9.2.0.6 to 9.2.0.8 then to 11.1 . iam using OEL5.1 os .IS it possibel to upgrade the database 9.2.0.6 to 9.2.0.8 on OEL5.1 .Kindly help this issue.

    Hi,
According to the certification matrix, Oracle9i is not certified with OEL5. So, I am not sure how you managed to have 9.2.0.6 installed and running on this OS. There could be a workaround for ignore the OS pre-req. when running OUI, but I would suggest you log a SR to confirm this with Oracle support.
Since you are upgrading to 9.2.0.8, please refer to (Note: 216550.1 - Oracle Applications Release 11i with Oracle9i Release 2 (9.2.0)) instead of the one referenced in my previous update (same section). Please note that you still need to apply patch 5035661.

  • JDeveloper 9i for Oracle 11i 10 with RUP4

    Hi,
I am trying to download JDeveloper patch 9i with OAF extension for Oracle Apps 11i 10 framework with RUP4. I am having issues with finding the right patch number as metalink says different patches in different pages. With the one I downloaded, I am having some database connection problem which gives me "IO Exception: The Network Adapter Could not Establish Connection".
    Can some help? Pls?
    Thanks.

5455514 is the patch for rup 4 based system.
As for the error, it is very generic. Either try to follow the steps for hello world carefully or search on forum, you will find many similar threads on this topic.

  • How to configure Solaris 10 IPMP for Oracle VDI 3.3.2

    Hi,
Does anyone have an indication on how to configure Solaris 10 IPMP in a manner that supports Oracle VDI?
We have setup two servers with 2 test addresses on physical and 1 logical for the hostname of the box, but when we configure VDI the VDI database does not come up on the 2nd box. We have also tried configuring IPMP without test addresses, but it doesn't make any difference - the DB still doesn't go into the up state after configuration on the 2nd server.
    Solaris 10 u9 with patches
Two physical NICs on management VLAN via 2 switches
Two physical NIcs on VDI VLAN via 2 switches
    VDI 3.3.2
All hostnames are in DNS and resolve for short name, FQDN and also reverse IP lookup
The is a proposal pdf on Oracle website that mentions IPMP, so someone has done it. Just could do with a hint on how it was done so that it works.
    Thanks
    Paul

OK, updating this with what was causing the issue.
Not an IPMP problem this was a DNS problem. The VDI servers have access to two DNS environments, so had a DNS search path that had the domain where the VMs where going to go and another for management of the box with two DNS servers listed in /etc/resolv.conf.
We configured VDI using the FQDN for the management DNS, however the vda-config script takes the hostname of the box adds the first DNS domain from /etc/resolv.conf search entry and configures using (it seams to ignore what you put into the vda-config). When the config script comes to configuring MySQL because the names didn't match (FQDN it created by adding hostname to the 1st entry in DNS search path & FQDN that you put into vda-config command), it decides that it is configuring a "Client MySQL" instance rather than a "Slave MySQL" instance, which means the VDA DB never comes up in the out of vda-center status.
    So the fix is to:
    1) configure IPMP without test addresses (so traffic comes out of the correct IP and can be reverse looked up in DNS by the other host)
    2) if you have multiple DNS search entries, configure VDI using the first entry in your search path as its FQDN

  • Need clarification on Solaris 10 upgrade for E Business suite application

    Hi All,
    Server details :
    (1)Database tier : Sun Solaris 8 - 64 Bit
    (2)Application tier ( E Business suite application services ): Sun Solaris 8 - 64 Bit
    (3)Application tier ( E Business suite External tier - DMZ configuration ) : Sun Solaris 8 - 64 Bit
    (4)10gAS and discoverer : Sun Solaris 8 - 64 Bit
    We are planning to upgrade the Database tier (1) and Application tier (2) to Sun solaris 10 and leave the Application tier {
    External - DMZ configuration } ( 3) and 10gAS and discoverer ( 4 ) with Sun
    solaris 8 .
Please let us know if we will be having issues if we perform the OS upgrade in such a way.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Rakesh

    Rakesh,
There should be no issues with this upgrade path. Just make sure you relink all binaries after an OS Upgrade to ensure that everything is working as expected.
    - Take a backup of the application/database
    - Upgrade the OS
    - Relink all binaries
    - Start up the application/database
    - Take another backup once you confirm that everything works properly

  • Solaris 10 Installation for Oracle RAC 10g Rel2

    Hello,
I have bought Enterprise 4000 and 250 in order to install and explore Oracle 10g Rel2 RAC.
In this regard I need some guide lines for
    1. Installinig Solaris 10
    2. Should I use ASM or other other volume manager?
If anybody can give me a starting document, it will be great.
    Thanks,
    Javed

I'm assuming you mean running RAC with or without Sun Cluster? If so, the answer is that there would almost no difference in most cases. The only case I can think of would be if you had a sub-optimal interconnect without Sun Cluster where Sun Cluster's clprivnet would have given you striping and availability for free.
I am currently working on a Blueprint that describes the important differences between the two configurations (with and without SC). They can broadly be summarised as:
    Sun Cluster gives you:
    * Better data integrity protection
    * Faster, more reliable node failure detection
    * Makes your name space homogeneous, simplifying installation and device management (DID structure), so no need for messy symbolic links
    * Gives you a highly available, striped cluster interconnect for the Cache Fusion traffic. (No need for tricky IPMP or link aggregation configurations.)
    * Allows you to use volume managers link Solaris Volume Manager or VxVM
    * Provides support for shared QFS as a file system for all Oracle objects, data includes (while still allowing ASM)
    * A substantial collection of Sun written and supported agents to manage other applications you might also have on your cluster, e.g. NFS, SAP, Apache, etc, etc.
    Hope that helps,
    Tim

  • Solaris Container Support for Oracle Products

    Hi,
Is there a special list about which Oracle products support Solaris Containers? Or can I assume that all products support the container technology?
I cant find any related information on this...

We run Oracle databases and application servers without any problems.
In the licencing documentations zones are explictly mentioned as capped zones are supported to partition a system.
So if you have an eight-core maschine but give the zone only one, you have only to licence this core.
Have a look at this document
    http://www.oracle.com/us/corporate/pricing/partitioning-070609.pdf
As said before if your software does not need low level access to the hardware or the kernel (as eg. a backup server or a nfs server) it should run fine into a zone.

  • Kernel upgrade for oracle rac

In our environment we have two node oracle rac (10.2.0.3) on RHEL4U5. We are using SAN(eva 4000)I need to upgrade the linux from 4.5 to 4.8 including kernel .Do I need to upgrade the SAN firmware too ?
    Thanks

In practise, OS upgrades do not affect other components, say like SAN firmware in this scenario.. I do not always have to upgrade/update the drivers (disk drivers inclusive) on the host every time when the OS on my machine is upgraded.
However, there could be compatibility issues which are rather product specific. SAN provider is the best source to advie us in such cases. As it is wisely advised earlier, it wont harm us to enquire with the involved parties.. although I make a generic statement that OS upgrade might not always lead to a firmware upgrade.

  • Out of disk space for Oracle 11i with Linux as OS

i want to add additional space for my server, currently i have (3) 36gb harddisk on raid 5 which add up to 108gb but since i am ran out of space for my data, i planned to add (1) 146gb though i can add 3 disk as i have 3 slots available, wont there be any complication if i add this as it is not the same with the current config? wont it affect my oracle application?

In my calculation, 3 36GB Disk under RAID5 add up 72GB. You could add your extra Disk for example on the /u01 mount point (standard for 11i apps). If you want to go for performance, you should consider another Disk with the same size and use RAID1, if that's available and hard disk mirroring is a requirement.
    C.
