Solaris 8 update manager authentication issue
Hi
I am on Sparc , solaris 8. When I run updatemanager, it asks me user name. It keeps on asking username and it does not ask for password of root user.

Outlook 2010 Kb2956128 Update Causing Authentication Issue
After installing 2/10/15 [kb2956128] update for outlook 2010 desktop client, I got a popup requesting my password for outlook / exchange account. No matter how many times I put it in the password the popup comes back with a new request. I've
logged in to my exchange account via OWA and with my phone without an issue. When I remove the [kb2956128] update the problem goes away. Any suggestions or thought would be helpful.Hi,
How about manually canceling the credential window, can Outlook still send/receive emails properly?
For this kind of credential issues, I would first try creating another Outlook profile and test if the issue persists.
Thanks,
Simon Wu

Solaris 10 x86 Update Manager & smpatch errors
I've recently installed Solaris 10 on two x86 machines and, even after installing patch 121119-15, I'm having Update Manager and smpatch issues. It appears to be due to certificate troubles.
I've followed several sets of instructions (including cacaoadm stop/start and registration) and nothing has seemed to work.
I have successfully connected to:
# telnet sun.com 80
# telnet cns-services.sun.com 443
# telnet getupdates1.sun.com 443
# telnet a248.e.akamai.net 443
I have also tried:
# cacaoadm stop
# cacaoadm status
# /usr/lib/cc-ccr/bin/eraseCCRRepository
# rm /var/scn/persistence/SCN*
# cacaoadm start
Reregistering didn't change anything.
Thanks in advance for everyone's help!

New to solaris---is update manager working correctly?
well as my subject says I am new to solaris having put it on an pc bout a week ago. as I am using the "free" verson (not open solaris) I knew I would not be entitled to certain goodies but seem to have run into an issue getting the updates I (presumably) am entitled to. simply put I open up the solaris application "update manager" which is on my desktop saying "updates available". now upon initially launching the app I specified that I was using the free version (well it let me register without a code so I assume sun knows my status), and then selected the option to put a check mark next to all available updates. well after waiting like a full day with it showing that is was still in the process up updating I eventually aborted the process. I then tried installing a couple of the updates and though it took a while it worked. so I selected 3 of 4 more and again the update manager showed that I was updating but nothing was happening (to my knowledge). after several hours I aborted the app again. so what am I doing wrong. first off I am assuming that what sun presents to me is what is actually available to me using the free unregistered version of solaris. why then would updates fail? btw I know some linux (not an expert) and I figured that behind the scenes update manager was checking for dependencies and installing what I needed from sun repos. but of course I could be way off bass here. so what gives? thanks much in advance.
first off I am assuming that what sun presents to me is what is actually available to me using the free unregistered version of solaris.No. Update Manager will show you everything but will only allow you to install basically security and a small subset of other patches.
When you ran through the Solaris registration GUI you had a chance to enter a support contract #. If you chose not to enter one or if you want to use it without registering then you only get access to a few of the patches.

Sun Update Manager problem in Solaris 10/08
Since installing Solaris 10 x86 10/08 on my AMD Sempron system, Sun Update Manager doesn't work. It starts and gives me a "Warning" window with no text and a yellow triangle icon with an exclamation point. That's it. This worked fine on this box in the last Solaris release.
Any ideas?Hi , I'm getting the similar issue. I've around 20 machines in my lab which are SunBlade 1500 and running solaris 10. While running the update manager I'm getting the pop up window with empty string and only exclamation mark. I tried to check the java version also which is 1.5 and also update the files
/usr/sbin/pprosvc
JAVACMD="/usr/jdk/latest/bin/java -version:1.5+"
To:
JAVACMD="/usr/jdk/latest/bin/java -version:1.5*"
And in /usr/bin/updatemanager, if you use it (around line 37):
Change:
JAVA_EXEC="/usr/jdk/latest/bin/java -version:1.5+"
To:
JAVA_EXEC="/usr/jdk/latest/bin/java -version:1.5*"
But still no effect .
After running suc.sh , I get the following message in one of my machine.

Solaris 9, Solaris Management Console ISSUE
Solaris 9, Solaris Management Console ISSUE
I have Solaris 9 installed and I am unable to use the Solaris Management console.
I have managed to start it:
/etc/init.d/init.wbem start
/etc/init.d/init.wbem status -> shows it's running
But if I try browser with the link http:// host:898, I have got the following error:
"A web version of the Solaris Management Console is not available at this time."
any Idea why?Are you running Trusted Extensions? What patch cluster are you on? What toolbox are you opening?

Solaris 10 x86: Update Manager quit working and shows empty warning message
All,
A little while ago my Update Manager stopped working. When I check for updates, I am getting an empty warning message box that has literally no text but only a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in the upper left corner and an ok button.
Once confirmed, nothing happens. Googled the issue but so far no luck.
Any hints?
Thanks
GSHad the same problem. Look here:

Hope that helps!

Sun Update Manager no connectivity on Solaris 10 x86
I just installed Solaris 10 on x86 platform. I allso need to install all kind of patches but Sun Update Manager gives error message:
Error: Unable to download document: "collection/default" Unknown host (username) connection to https://getupdates1.sun.com/solaris/
and nothing happes...i cant check for updates. How can get sun service plan free of charge? i heard some patches are free of charge.
Please help!
Thank You!By accident, I found out that the graphics settings are remembered apparently only if a plug-and-play monitor is present (that reports its properties to the graphics adapter).
Also, during installation, be sure to watch the screen at all times. The "kdmconfig" program is apparently run also during installation. There's a 4-second window (quite at the beginning of the installation) to view the graphics properties as detected by the installer. As soon as you see this screen, hit the SPACE key to stop the timer, then verify the settings if they match your monitor and graphics adapter type. If you have the manuals of these, it's easy to figure out if the settings are appropriate. Hit ESC to start kdmconfig, it'll go right into the XSun configuration (which is used ONLY by the installer with my version of Solaris 10). The installer automatically creates a XOrg configuration and switches to XOrg after reboot (if all went well).
After successful installation of Solaris 10 (when the graphical subsystem is working), you can run "xorgconfig" (in the X binary directory) to create a "xorg.conf" file that you can place in "/etc/X11/" directory. I'm not sure if the file is actually parsed, but you can edit it to change settings if necessary.
(BTW, it would be a good idea if "kdmconfig" would allow users to enter their own maximum/minimum/fixed horizontal and vertical frequencies, edit the mode table and set +/- hsync/vsync and interlace flags, and edit a monitor setting detected automatically. I was close to hair-pulling a couple of times. Also, the installer doesn't seem to save changes to the monitor setting.) -
Clean Install Solaris 10 05/09 - Update Manager Fails with Valid Acct
I have a clean install of Solaris 10 05/09, and Update Manager fails to register using a valid accout which I can login with at the Sun website. Why is this happening? How can this be fixed?
Here's the output from the script....

Smpatch and Sun Update Manager BROKEN - Solaris 10 Sparc
Since the installation of patch 121118-12, smpatch and Sun Update Manager (SUM) 1.0.9 are completely broken for myself and many, many other Solaris 10 users. Numerous significant bugs are listed in the release notes for the client:
http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/features/hub_articles/sc_update_rn.jsp
smpatch analyze and download seems to work, but the system completely hangs on smpatch update, every time. During the hang, smpatch/SUM-related processes are duplicated. This is not mentioned in the release notes.
Here is the results of "ps -ef | grep patch" when smpatch update hangs upon patch install:
username 1365 1 0 18:39:38 ? 0:10 /usr/bin/java -jar /usr/lib/patch/swupna.jar
root 2305 2275 0 18:48:05 ? 0:00 /usr/bin/java -Djava.library.path=/usr/lib/cc-ccr/lib com.sun.patchpro.cli.Patc
root 2270 2261 0 18:45:34 ? 0:00 smpatch update -i 120222-18 -i 119115-28 -i 119090-24 -i 120099-08 -C patchpro.
username 1061 1055 0 18:33:40 ? 2:34 /usr/bin/java -client -jar /usr/lib/patch/swupdate.jar
root 1072 1061 0 18:33:57 ? 0:00 sh -c /usr/lib/patch/csm
root 1073 1072 0 18:34:01 ? 0:00 /usr/lib/patch/csm
root 2261 1073 0 18:45:33 ? 0:00 smpatch update -i 120222-18 -i 119115-28 -i 119090-24 -i 120099-08 -C patchpro.
root 2275 2266 0 18:45:34 ? 1:20 /usr/bin/java -Djava.library.path=/usr/lib/cc-ccr/lib com.sun.patchpro.cli.Patc
Note the duplicated smpatch and java processes. This is a networked, stand-alone system. Killing the secondary smpatch and java -Djava.lib... processes stops the hang, but always results in installation failure for at least one patch.
Other than "killing hung processes and retry" as given in the release notes (bogus), what are good workarounds for the smpatch bug(s), which have severely impacted my system? When will Sun release a new SUM client? The current version is completely hosed.Thank you VERY much for your reply. I really appreciate your help.
Yes, smpatch works fine without patch 121118-12 installed (121118-10 is now my current smpatch level).

Patch -
I have been using solaris for going on 10 years now. In the past I would download the latest patch cluster from Sunsolve, burn it to a cd, and install the cluster from single user mode. When 10 came out, I was excited to see and experiment with the update manager. I am not too excited now. I am rather dissapointed. The update manager freezes half the time and now smpatch generates errors and will not work at all. Update manager also stopped working totally until I backed out one of the "patching" patches.
So, I went back to the CD method and found the return codes have changed until the appropriate switch was added to the install_cluster script. Does anyone use this update manager? Seems like a pain to me.I too have the same problems with Update Manager, on both Sparc and x86 machines. When I update anything, I've gone to the effort to watch cpu, disk, and network activity in the performace monitor. When all three have flat-lined, then I know to abort the updating.
When Update Manager fails, I erase all contents of the /var/sadm/spool folder to start from scratch. Then, rather than reverting to cluster patching, I use smpatch.
smpatch analyze > patchlist
smpatch download -x idlist=patchlist
I look at a resulting patchlist*.txt file to see in what order the patches need to be applied.
One should then be able to apply all of the patches in the single user mode by:
smpatch order -x idlist=patchlist > orderlist
smpatch add -x idlist=orderlist
However, I don't trust all of them to add without failure, so add each one individually, taxing my patience:
smpatch add -i 123456-01 (the number of the patch's jar file)
After I have installed all pending patches and reboot, I feel confident to try Update Manager again. At least I can use it to tell me if patches exist. Note that after rebooting, you'll need to run Update Manager manually from Launch > Applications > Utilities > Update Manager in the Java Desktop.
Good luck. I hope for both of our sakes that something better comes along in our lifetime. -
After initial installation of solaris 10 and updated system via update manager. I encountered a video card problema nd had to re-install solaris 10, now I am getting an error when I attempt to update solaris 10 update manager
Error: Patch metadata errors were deleted. Obselesce processing failure. Could not find obselescing update for 127717-01.
Where have I gone wrong.
Any assistance will be appreciated.I re-installad solaris 10 and during the update I ommitted SMC updates. However, I noticed unique problem after re-installation. I tried to download anotther tool from sun site. It failed due to lack of disk space. I preallocated 32GB drive-space during installation, I later observed that I only had 1.4GIG of disk space remaining. It seems like I should not have preallocated the entire 32gig to solaris 10 during installation, or should I have taken a different approach. A little puzzled right now.
Thanks a bunch!! -
Solaris x86 10 u1 (01/06) Update manager showing obsolete patches
I installed 10 u1 (01/06) the other day. I ran the Update Manager and I think there were 8 patches, so I attempted to install them.
Only one of them successfully installed (118966-12), six of them show up in /var/sadm/spool/disallwed_patch_list_report:
STATUS INSTALL BEGIN 119076-10
Transition old-style patching.
STATUS INSTALL END 119076-10 INSTALL.6
STATUS INSTALL BEGIN 119833-02

STATUS INSTALL END 120666-01 INSTALL.6
STATUS INSTALL BEGIN 119684-02

STATUS INSTALL END 119684-02 INSTALL.6
And the last one (120041-02) failed.
Anyway, I was grep'ing patchadd -p for some of these and it looks like the ones I checked have been obsoleted by other patches (I didn't check them all, maybe 3).
So, why do they still show up in Update Manager? Or am I missing something (very possible, I'm not a sysadmin, I use this machine for development). The same problem:

Now look to file "patchlist.delimited" from /var/sadm/spool/cache/Database/*.zip (this file is downloaded automaticaly and used for analysis) for patch 118844:

AND:
there is recorded only 118844-20 and NOT 118844-26 in the "central update" database, therefore obsolete patch path is not resolved correctly (look at 8 field).
SOLUTION:
We must wait :-)

Sun Update Manager attempts to patch wrong arch of Sun Studio 12
Hi,
I'm having patching problems as mentioned here: http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5198127&tstart=0
However, I recently (last week) installed an x86_64 version of Sun Studio 12 on my sparc NFS server as documented here: http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-0274/6nc1b7u4r?a=view
(Installing the Sun Studio 12 Software on a Solaris Server for Use by Clients With a Different Architecture)
The clients are Sun Solaris 10 11/06 x86_64.
After running "check for updates", Sun Update Manager today returned 9 patches for Sun Studio 12. All of these patches appear to be for sparc architecture:
126995-01
124861-02
124867-01
124863-01
127000-01
127143-01
126503-01
127001-01
124872-01
My question is, why doesn't Sun Update Manager realize that I installed the x86_64 version of Sun Studio 12 (for NFS exporting) and give me the x86_64 version of these patches?
Or am I missing something? How does the procedure "Installing the Sun Studio 12 Software on a Solaris Server for Use by Clients With a Different Architecture" result in the package system on the NFS server being aware of the correct arch version of Sun Studio 12?
This should explain more:
(/opt/x86_64/SUNWspro is my NFS share)
# pwd
/opt/x86_64/SUNWspro
# ls -l

I obviously have the i386 version of f95 sitting on my sparc server. The x86 clients are happy with it - works great, but I want to be able to patch it.
Can anyone tell me how to apply patches to my Sun Studio 12 installation in this case?
Thanks,
Philits probably best to get your other patching issue sorted out first before going any further with this. it may turn out that fixing the problem of smpatch analyze recommending already installed patches will also fix this problem
