Solaris 8: USB and modem support

Does Solaris 8 IA support USB modems? And if so, what do I have to do to make Solaris talk to my modem using the USB connector?
Thank you!
Dirk

I don't think they do, but check the Hardware Compatibility Lists to make sure.

  • USB ADSL Modem Driver for Huawei MT841 for Solaris Express

    Hello Everyone
After initial hiccups of installing Solaris Express in a multiboot system and partition mania,i finally installed Solaris Express on my system.First i installed Developer Edition and upgraded it to Express thinking that Developer Edition doesnt have networking capabilities.
All said and done now i'm unable to access the internet.I'm using Broadband USB ADSL Modem from Huawei, type MT841 with four ethernet ports and one USB port.I dont have ethernet card so i use USB port to connect.
The thing is the modem cd doesnt have a driver for Solaris, but for linux it does.
Where can i find the driver for ADSL modem and how to install it,if i find it?
Is there any alternate way?Expecting a reply(because my last post about multiboot didnt)
    Thanks in advance

    Problem Solved!
Un-installing all USB modem device drivers, disconnecting all USB devices and removing all USB host controllers and hubs from the Vista device manager and then rebooting the notebook MADE NO DIFFERENCE.
However when I received the new Thomson SpeedTouch 330 USB ADSL modem drivers on CD-ROM from the manufacturer the modem installed immediately.
I can only assume that there is a problem with the download of Release 4.1 of the Windows Vista driver for the SpeedTouch 330 from this web-page:
    http://www.thomson-broadband.co.uk/codepages/content3.asp?c=7&ProductID=471
... as the drivers on the CD-ROM from Thomson work - but their web download of the driver for the SpeedTouch does not.
The problem was with the driver for Windows Vista - the laptop and modem now work correctly - as they should have done at the first installation attempt!
    Thanks for your help.

  • Which mobile USB modem supports ULM290

Just upgraded to the Pantech ULM290 and went out and bought the Cradlepoint MBR900 USB mobile modem. Problem is the MBR900 does not support the new ULM290. Does anybody know which USB modem/ wireless router supports the ULM290.
    Thanks in advance.

I am using the Cradle Point   MBR1000 and used it previously with the USB760 Modem
I only have EVDO or 3G available.  I am in a remote area in the fringe of 4G.   I have an external antenna mounted 50' up on a tower pointed to closest tower.  I have 85% signal level and it is still slow.
I have upgraded the firmware on the Router and the firmware on the modem.
The modem keeps dropping the connection.  It takes forever to get connected and then will just drop for no reason.
Before Cradle Point released the latest firmware I was using a laptop as a router and I was connecting via the Verizon software.  It was having the same issues.

  • Networking with USB ADSL modem (and AOL)

    hi there,
just purchased first mac (macbook), and want to get it online.
i have a windows desktop connected to AOL with a USB ADSL modem, and would like my Macbook to be able to be wirelessly connected to the internet.
I understand that having AOL and a USB modem can be problematic in setting up a wireless network.
Can anybody offer me any help, i.e what routers to buy and how to set it up? or even just link me to a similar topic?
    thanks very much in advance.
    Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   1.83 Ghz, 80Gb, 1Gb mem

    Hi andwhy
as Duane suggest you need to replace the usb modem.
You can get a wireless adsl router for about £50.
USB modem cann be networked unless you use your pc as a gateway. This would involve install router software on the pc, then you would need to get a wireless access point connected to the pc.
So it is much simpler and more cost effective to use a wireless ADSL router.
I would check out the adsl routers you can get from http://www.solwise.co.uk

  • Airport Extreme 'n' and USB External modem

    Hello all,
I have an Airport Extreme 802.11n simultaneous dual-band base station with a USB disk plugged into the back through a hub. It's connected to my network that comes from my 802.11b/g Airport Extreme Snow "saucer" model that I have to have because I can't get DSL/cable where I live, so I use the built-in modem to access the internet.
Can I add the USB External modem to the newer Extreme and still access the internet through it, or is that basically a lost cause? I'd like to move to the new one because 'n' would be faster to do my time machine backups.

The USB cellular modem you are referring to would be a device like this:
    http://www.cradlepoint.com/products/cba250-cellular-broadband-adapter
Your USB adapter would plug into the Cradlepoint and the Cradlepoint would provide an ethernet signal to the WAN port on the AirPort Extreme. That's the only way this type of setup will work.

  • Apple Airport Xpress and a USB Broadband modem

Can I use the USB port on the Airport Xpress to plug in a USB Broadband Modem? I'd like to use the Verizon or Sprint USB727 as my data connection and broadcast via the Airport Xpress.

Here is the solution. You can buy an adapter that has a female usb on one end and a mail ethernet on the other. I searched and only found it eBay and no where else. The seller is in Hong kong but has a long established history of great transactions. Here is the URL. I ordered one and can let everyone know how things turned out, if anyone is interested.

  • Quick question: are most 56KB dial-up modems supported via USB ... ?

I need to use my iMac occasionally for sending and receiving faxes ...
Of course I have an option to buy an external Apple USB 56KB modem, but just wondering if I can use other conventional USB dial-up modems if it has an appropriate Mac OS X driver/software ... ?
This seems to be a much less expensive option as well, considering I'll only use it once or twice a month ...
Any brands that are known to work better with OS X.4 on an Intel iMac ...?
    Macfinger

You can Google for USB Modems to find what's available, but frankly Apple's is as competitively priced as anything and has the advantage of being small. Others are much larger and mostly cost the same or more.

  • USB Boroadband Modem and iMac G%

Hi can somebody please advise me on the following:
I have an 20 inch iMac G5 fitted with Airport Extreme, Bluetooth and 1256 RAM using the following software: System Software Overview:
    System Version:     Mac OS X 10.3.9 (7W98)
    Kernel Version:     Darwin 7.9.0
which up to now I have connected to the Internet using the internal Apple Modem. Have now decided to go on to Broadband and my provider, Plusnet, has provided me with a Voyager 105: USB ADSL Modem Since connecting the Voyager I have experience the following problems:
    A)     Having been on the Internet when I shut down my iMac G5 after approximately 1 minute I can hear a loud noise coming from the computer that otherwise appears to be shut down. I’m fairly certain this is the hard drive working flat out but it could also be the Fans.
    B)      If I disconnect the USB Voyager this does not happen.
    C)     If with the Voyager connected I power up the computer and use it without going on the Internet and then shut down this does not happen.
    D)     If the Voyager is not connected the iMac G5 works normally.
    E)      Having been on the Internet the iMac will not follow the Normal Restart procedure but freezes after shut down.
    F)      Having been on the Internet the iMac and shutting down the iMac it will not Startup using the Normal Button at the rear.
My interim solution to these problems is to switch the Power Switch Off at the wall after shutting down but I don’t like having to do this. I understand that there is a compatibility problem with some / or all USB Modems and my iMac G5 / Software. Is there a solution to these problems? Or do I need to change my provider / USB Modem?
I had thought of changing to a Belkin F5D7633 UK 4A ADSL 2 + Modem with 125MBPS Wireless – G Router, this can connected by wireless or by Ethernet.

    Hello Charles
You may not be aware of this but ISP's have been issuing uk users with usb adsl modems of over 5 years now. In those 5 years they have never worked properly with a Macintosh.
This is not a fault with Mac it is an issue with the drivers that are written for the USB modems.
The solution is to replace the USB modem with an ADSL wifi router. This type of adsl router will be compatible with airport extreme where as your usb modem cannot be used wirelessly.
An adsl router requires no drivers so runs on any platform. It will also give you security as most adsl routers give you a hardware firewall. So yes just change to an ethernet adsl router.

  • USB wireless Modems for MAC

    Hi Apple users,
Could an one tell me which USB wireless internet Modems support MAC OS X leopard 10.5.6 macbooks? Could you also tell me which one is the best and efficient USB modem for the MAC books? You help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
    Regards,
    Naresh

You'll need to clarify what you're looking for. Do you need an actual phone-line modem? There are boxes you can connect to wirelessly and then dial out, but they're not as popular as they used to be. Likewise, are you looking for a phone line modem for the MacBook? Apple has one they officially support -- I think it's actually made by US Robotics.
What do you mean by "efficient"? Lowest power consumption? Best speed? Least heat?
If you're looking for what the cable and DSL providers call a "modem", nobody can recommend one until they know what you plan to connect it to. Most of them are actually routers or bridges, and not real modems (modulator-demodulator).

  • Help please - error message while installing mobi usb card modem

    Hello,
I keep getting an error message while trying to install a mobi usb card modem onto my g4. The message is "error encountered while running the installationcheck tool".
I've never seen this message before, can't find any info about it. I'd really appreciate any help, we don't have any mac support where I live (and mobi have no idea).
    Thanks!

    Yzmina,
Make sure your USB card is compatible with the Mac and also, connect a USB device to see if the card is working.
You don't say what kind of Mac you have, but didn't most G4s have an internal modem.
What software are you trying to install - Macs usually don't need third party software for USB cards.
A little more information will help people solve your problem.

  • Is Apple USB Fax Modem working under Vista

Hi I need to send out Fax's from my mini, I like to buy Apple USB Modem.
Will it work under Vista (is there drivers for it)?
    Thx for the help

I'm unable to get the USB external modem working on boot camp with Windows XP. Spent a long time on the phone with Microsoft technical support staff and my ISP's technical support staff over the past 2 or 3 days. Still not working. Their conclusion is that Windows does not work well on Apple (could be finger pointing). Apple tech support told me they could not provide support for Windows (total cop out) on Boot camp.
I've ordered a US Robotics USB modem that is compatible with both Mac and Windows. Won't have it for 2 weeks. If you find any answers, please pass on to me.

No, since the USB port on the Time Capsule will only support a compatible printer and/or hard drive.

  • Solomon SCMi250e (USB GPRS Modem)

I bought Macbook Air and I have Solomon SCMi250e (USB GPRS Modem). There is a problem because I can't find drivers for this device. I found drivers for windows and tried convert exe files into dmg but it doesn't help. Have anybody some idea?

Unfortunately, unless the maker or wireless provider provide Mac drivers for it, you're probably out of luck. However often times, it may already be supported by the Mac's WWAN drivers. Does anything happen when you open System Preferences --> Network, and then plug the card in?

  • Can anyone recommend a decent USB Fax/Modem for the Macbook (Intel) ?

Hello, after reviewing the feedback on the Apple USB modem, I see that most cannot fax, a few claim they have done limited numbers of faxes. All complain about the slower connect speed recognition (as compared to earlier Apple internal modems).
Has anyone found a decent USB powered modem or Firewire powered modem which can fac and surf ?
Thanks in advance for any leads,
    San

I thought I closed this. ATI would not comment. I will try Apple Support but believe I am wasting time.
