Solaris 8 x86 on an IBM PC Server 320
I have an IBM PC Server 320 that I have spent days trying to install Solaris 8 04/01 on. I keep getting pboot: cdrom error 01 and Random reboots during the installation using the install CD or Software CD 1. I reviewed the Solaris HCL list and all the components installed meet the requirements.
Here is my configuration info:
IBM PC Server with Intel P200 MMX overdrive
96mb ECC Memory
Matrox Mystique Video Card PCI 4mb (Top PCI Slot closet to Power Supply)
Adaptec 2940W bios v1.19S8 (2nd PCI Slot
Plextor 12/20 Tsi
2 IBM 2.25 gig DCAS-34160
3c509 ISA NIC (2nd EISA slot from bottom of the Case)
BIOS Info from Adaptec Card
Advanced Options:
Reverse Scan Disable
DOS drive >1 disabled
DOS 2 drives 5.0 or higher >disabled
Boot CDROM disabled
Software Info:
Solaris 8 04/01 binaries on 80 minute CD?s
I don't know what it could be, I'm starting to think it may be the adapter or the 80 minute Cd's I burned the images on. Any info would greatly be appreciated.

Solaris x86 on Compaq DL360 (P21) server
I am having issues installing this OS on the server in the title... it is a DL360 with Dual PIII 998 processors and 1.4G RAM.
I setup the RAID controller at statup to use RAID1 with 2 x 36G drives.... and then boot from the Solaris Disk 1 (no the installer disk)...
I am using the RAID controller driver supplied from Compaq for Solaris 8 and at the first stage it successfully is added during the installation process....
The process goes through as per expected, setup network, setup drive layout and even install required OS modules.. then it happens....
... the request to insert the disk holding file CPQARY2 pops up, disk is inserted but the message 'file cannot be found on disk' is returned....
Silly thing is that the system has already used this driver from this disk to load the HDD RAID conntroller info into memory... it even installs to the disks with no problems....
Is this an issue because the drivers are for Sol8 and not 9??... and does anyone know where and if I can get the drivers for 9??.. they are not on the website for this server model....did you make any experiance regarding Solaris 10 X86 ?No, but...
Unfortunately there is no Solaris 10 driver for the
built in SmartArray of the DL360 (P21) available.... I expect that the same workaround is OK for Solaris 10, that is,
rename the DU/sol_28 directory to DU/sol_210 on HP's driver
update floppy. -

AkankshaOracle Instant Client was a "feature" introduced with Oracle 10g. There is no 9i version.
Code that links with Oracle 9i libraries should be able to be linked with Instant Client 10gR2.
The resulting application will be able to connect to databases from Oracle 8.1 onwards. -
LUN has gone AWOL - Solaris 10 x86, Emulex HBAs, IBM DS8300
We're setting up a test environment for our backup software, currently running on Windows, but targeted for Solaris. This is also a test of our first Solaris x86 deployment.
* HP DL580 G5 server.
* Solaris 10 x86 10/08 w/patch cluster from ~March 18th.
* One dual port Emulex HBA
* IBM DS8300 SAN
When we first set this up, we could see the one LUN in format. After adding in the IBM Multipathing software, the LUN disappeared and the FC devices are shown as unconfigured in `cfgadm -al`. We removed the IBM multipathing software, but still cannot see the LUN. Did a reconfiguration reboot and all that.

The LUN that we had seen previously was an artifact from an earlier configuration. -
We can't install Solaris 8 - IBM PC SERVER 315
Hello:
We are trying to install Solaris 8 (Intel) (02/02) in an IBM PC Server 315.
Some words about it:
- 128 Mb RAM
- Pentium Pro 200 Mhz
- Adaptec AHA-2940U/2940UW Ultra SCSI in PCI bus1,Slot 4 (Info from Solaris install) (Target 7)
- Hard Disk IBM SCSI (Target 0)
- CD-Rom SCSI IBM CDRM00203 (Target 6 of SCSI) (info from Solaris install)
We have a big problem.
We can't install Solaris from CD.
After Loading kernel , when it begins Searching /dev and /devices...we see this text in the screen repeated a lot of times:
WARNING: /pci@0,0/pci1011,24@2/pci9004,8178@1(adp0):
timeout: abort device, target=6 lun=0
And before this something like it has some problem and begins a resinc ??
Please Could you help us?
Solaris has been purchased from Sun on 12 March 2002
A lot of Thank's!
P.D: Please, excuse my poor English.
A lot of thank's.two other severs wouldn't run the cd either? Break it down a little it will be more solvable. We will create two separate problems with this. First we will check the cd disk itself. Put in another system and install solaris. If that works, move to the cdrom drive....move it to the same computer you just installed solaris on...if it works then it is another problem.

How to integrate a Solaris x86 server on Sun Management Center ?
Hello people,
I want to integrate a Solaris x86 server on Sun Management Center platform.
If I'm not wrong, SunMC doesn't run for Solaris x86, server and client only as console with Java.
In speat of it, I try to install Sun Management Center 3.0 Agent for Solaris x86.
It seems to be ok, install packages, but when execute es-setup script, intents to create the following directory:
/opt/SUNWsymon/base/bin/sparc-sun-solaris2.8
I supose that in this directory, SunMC will install sparc binary files
At this point, I can't follow the installation and abort it.
Can anybody give me ideas to install and integrate my solaris x86 server on SunMC ?

Dear Gents,

successfully i could monitor the Sun Solaris Servers after i have installed the SMC agent on them.
my problem is that i could not install the SMC agent on Red Hat Linux. as i could not find an easy document or steps to do so.
could you guide please? If you still have a copy of your SunMC media around, the same ["es-inst"|http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-2215/command-line-1?l=en&a=view] program you use to install Solaris Agents should work on Linux as well. It autodetects OS type and will install Solaris packages or RPMs as appropriate.

From the Unix prompt enter oemapp console(for v9.x). If you are using earlier versions it is oemapp console (for starting the console) and oemapp dbastudio(for starting dba studio)
For starting OMS enter: oemctrl start oms.
Hope this helps

Weblogic Server 9.2 MP 3 for Solaris x86
Does anyone know where I can download weblogic server 9.2 mp 3 for Solarix x86. I have spent my entire day looking for it in support.oracle.com (metalink) and oracle download pages but nothing has turned up so far.
You can always ask via support.
There is a download on edelivery.oracle.com. Select Oracle BEA then Solaris x86 32bit - then click on BEA WebLogic Media Pack for Sun Solaris x86 (x86, x86-64)
You'll see a 9.2 MP3 ISV download, I'm not sure if that's exactly the same as the normal one or if it's only for ISV's, you'd have to ask support. -
Installing solaris 10 on an IBM server with ServeRAID
G'day,
I want to install solaris 10 on my IBM xSeries eServer 235 and install starts fine but straight away it complains about not finding any HDDs and exits.
I do have HDDs installed, three infact.
They are SCSI on the IBM ServeRAID adaptor and i have used ServerGuide to reformat the disks but solaris just cannot find them.
Why is this??
thanks,
jasonI did some idgging and i pretty much concluded that
we need serveRAID drivers for the OS be find the
disks.I've got the same thoughts. Though Solaris 10 is listed in Release Notes for the latest IBM ServeRAID Support CD, and CD itself contains floppy images for what it thinks is a 'solaris drivers', but either those drivers doesn't work or there is wrong drivers. Doing as described in "Installing" readme doesn't give much result. BTW - it's initial release of ServeRAID Support CD where support for Solaris OS is offered.
So all the OSs in the serveraid list are the oes that
serveraid will provide a driver for automatically. If only you have had updated both Server BIOS and RAID Adapter firmwares as described in relative readme's.
I am not sure what to do from here, sell the damn
server i supose!Me too.
I've got RHEL ES4 installed in RAID logical volumes, directly from OS installation distro, without using ServeRAID Support CD drivers. But I was supposed to use Solaris and not the RHEL.
Funnily enough when i got it a heat sink fell off the
northbridge or chipset, not sure which it is. A tad
dodgy. -
Can I set two router IP on my solaris x86 server?
Hi ,
I want to make traffic balance on my office. Because we have two leased line.
I would build up NAT in the solaris x86.
Can I set two router ip in the solaris x86 server? And How to do it?
The traffic balance is work or not?
If that is not work, what can I do?
Thanks All ^_^
Andrew ChoiYes, you can use solaris x86 as a NAT box.
add another ethernet interface, and install
IP-filter, or sunscreen
I suggest you search the solaris newsgroups on

sparc. You can. The only problem is that it is difficult to read the information from the SPARC CD set (due to the differences in x86 and SPARC UFS filesystems).
If you have the SPARC DVD (or even just the DVD .iso), then it's easier. The same information is replicated so that it is easier to copy onto x86.
Since you only have CD drives, I'd recommend copying the DVD image to the machine, then using lofiadm to mount it up.
Once mounted, it's the same thing as on SPARC, just run the setup_install_server and add_install_client stuff.

Migration from Solaris Sparc server to Solaris x86
Hi ,
I would like to know.
Migration from SAP ECC6 , Oracle , Solaris Sparc to Ecc6, Oracle, Solaris x86 , Is this consider Heterogeneous or Homogeneous system copy?
Thanks.
Best Regards,
ck chaiSolaris on SPARC is a BIgEndian platform, Solaris on X86 is LittleEndian - so it's heterogeneous --> you need to use R3load to performa a migration - and you need to have a certified migration consultant on-site to do that migration (http://service.sap.com/osdbmigration --> FAQ).

Mounting a Solaris x86 CD/DVD from a remote Windows CD/DVD-ROM drive
Greetings, all.
Is it possible to mount a remote Windows CD/DVD-ROM drive? I have the Solaris 10x86 Companion Software DVD sitting in a CD/DVD-ROM drive that's installed on a Windows server on my network. It is shared-out (F:) and the two servers can ping each other. I've also confirmed the NFS services/daemons are running on the Solaris x86 machine. I've tried the following variations but, all have failed to produce successful results:
# mount -F nfs x.x.x.x:/f /mnt
nfs mount: x.x.x.x: : RPC: Program not registered
nfs mount: retrying: /mnt
# mount -F hsfs x.x.x.x:/f /mnt
mount: No such device
mount: cannot mount x.x.x.x:/f
# mount -F hsfs x.x.x.x:/F /mnt

[FYI: S10_106_SOFTWARE is the DVD's label as reported by Windows Explorer.]
# mount -F hsfs x.x.x.x:/S10_106_SOFTWARE /mnt
mount: No such device
mount: cannot mount x.x.x.x:/S10_106_SOFTWARE

I've also tried mounting it at bootup by adding the appropriate entry in the /etc/vfstab file but, this does not work as well. I've tried Google'ing for an answer to my issue but, I haven't been able to find anything that applies directly to what I'm reporting. It's usually chatter about mounting from one UNIX server to another. Any advice from the community would be greatly appreciated. After three weeks, you deserve a reply. Windoze does
not natively support NFS.Also deserves a decent answer...
There are two ways to do this:
Install Microsoft's free "Windows Services for UNIX," which includes a Windows NFS server; or
Install the 'sharity' package (google for it); it provides Solaris systems the ability to mount Windows shares -
Oracle 8.1.5 Client/WLS/Solaris x86
has anyone been able to get Oracle's client 8.1.5 running on Solaris x86 in conjunction with WLS to talk to back-end Oracle? Any help would be greatly appreciated.thanks.
This will not work. We have not built the native libraries to work with
Solaris on Intel..
I suggest trying the platform independent type 4 JDBC driver available for
free from Oracle. It is supported (as is any JDBC driver) with WebLogic
Server. To download it:
Go to http://www.oracle.com and select the "Download" option.
From the resulting page, use the "Select Utility or Driver" dropdown to
select Oracle JDBC drivers
From the resulting page, scroll down a little (since SQLJ stuff appears at
the top).
Or, to go directly there:
http://technet.oracle.com/software/tech/java/sqlj_jdbc/software_index.htm

From 7.3 on NT to 8 on Solaris x86?
Has Oracle ported Oracle8 for Solaris x86?
Hi,
usually I expect people to do a little research and I do not give everything chewed.
Point 4:
go to the
<b>Oracle9i Database Migration Release 2 (9.2)</b>
go to the chapter 3
<b>Upgrading a Database to the New Oracle9i Release</b>
go to the point:
<b>Upgrade the Database Manually</b>
Exactly from here:
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96530/upgrade.htm#1009200
Keep in mind
1) that the <i>EXACT </i>procedure you are following it is not indicated in this manual
2) you have to think a little ( do you have all the windows services created on the destination system? if not, you have to create them ... )
3) this procedure is not supported by SAP. It is a valid option but not supported by them. You have to practice until you get all the points correctly
