Try your local b&n. From what I can tell you can pull a book off the shelf, go sit at a table and read till the place closes :)
Course, nothing's better then actually using 9 (be x86 or Sparc). I think you can get download x86 free, and it'd probably install on your PC :)

  • After end date of a beta exam

    Hi,
This close date of tis beta exam http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=41&p_org_id=&lang=&p_exam_id=1Z0_151 is May 19. So after this and until the release date of production exam, WHAT will hapen with this Forms exam? Can it be scheduled after May 19 (as beta), when normally the exam is in POST BETA REVIEW stare, so if i log in on Pearson account, can i still see 1Z1-151? So it can no longer be scheduled ~10 weeks, until the production exam will be released?
    Thanks!

Access to a beta exam ends on the beta end date. From that date until the exam is in production, some exams are not available for registration at all. However, some exams will open for pre-registration. Which means that if the 151 beta exam ends on May 19, you can register for the production exam on May 20, but the appointment date will be a date in the future. You will be able to register for a future exam date starting May 20, but you will not be able to TAKE any exam between May 19 and the future start date of the production exam.
You will not be able to register for a BETA exam after the beta end date.

  • Developer Certification beta exam

I signed up a few weeks ago for the "beta" exam, but I have yet to hear anything from Sun about it. Has anybody else heard anything from them? I'd just as soon save $400, but I'm also ready to roll vis--vis developer certification, so it'd be nice to know what's going on.

  • OCE: 1z1-054: passing beta exam without being 11g OCP DBA ?

    Hello,
I've question: can I take beta exam 1z1-054 (OCE performance tunning for 11g) without being 11g OCP DBA certified ? After sucessful passing of 1z1-054 I would go for 11g DBA OCP certification, and then submit hands-on-course... is it possbile? I'm aware that I wouldn't be allowed to claim that I've passed this OCE certification until I've gained 11g OCP DBA.
    Thanks for reply.

You do not have to be an 11g DBA OCP prior to sitting for the 1Z1-054 beta exam. As a matter of fact, you do not have to be an 11g DBA OCP to obtain this certification. You may also obtain the certification by completing the required training course. You can see your two options on our website at http://education-dev.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=287.

  • 1Z1-102 Weblogic 11g OCA - Beta Exam end date?

    Hello,
I did this exam on September 14th, I choosed this date because according to this link (http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=182#2) the beta exam was suposed to end on September 17th.
But about 2 days ago I noticed that this exam was still "open" and I verified it at Pearson VUE site. I was hopping that my results will be ready by end of November or at starts of December, but knowing that the beta exam is still open that won't be happend soon.
Do someone know when this beta exam is going to be closed so the production exam could start to be prepared?
    Thanks, Harim Márquez.

Thanks, Harim Márquez. It's quite 'normal' for betas to be extended ... (if more tests are needed to validate the exam) ... though I suspect in the case the web site was not updated in synchronization. It will still take 12 weeks from beta close for production exam and for results to be published. I exam Certification Forum Moderator will answer this in due course.

  • Exam Result Report for Beta Exams?

I recently took a beta exam, passed it and received the cert. However, I don't receive any exam result. Is Oracle / Prometirc supposed to send the exam result to beta exam candidates?
When I took a production exam, I got the result (with breakdown on scores in each section) immediately after th exam. This was several years ago but I assume it is still the current practices. Then I can know in which area I am weak.

    Hi!
I took several Beta exams and usually I got the exam report about 4 weeks after the beta period ended. I always got it before I got the certificate. Maybe you should ask what happened to your exam report, maybe it got lost on the way.

  • Clarification Request on New Solaris Cert Exam Requirements.

    Regarding:
Important Changes to Java, and Oracle Solaris Certifications
Beginning August 1, 2011, Java Architect, Java Developer, Solaris System Administrator and Solaris Security Administrator certification path requirements will include a new mandatory course attendance requirement.
Candidates may earn their certifications using the current track requirements found on the Oracle Certification website through July 31, 2011 .....References:
    1) http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=449
    2) SCSA/OSSA 10 OCP Oracle Certified Professional, Oracle Solaris 10 System Administrator : http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=328
    3) SCSEA/OSSESA 10 OCE Oracle Certified Expert, Oracle Solaris 10 Security Administrator : http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=330
Reference (1) seems to indicate candidates wishing to obtain both OSSA and OSSESA would need to attend two classes, one for each.
    - Or is it that a someone already SCSA/OSSA would not have to attend a further classs for OSSESA (As would be the case for DBA 10 OCP/RAC 10 OCE).
    - If two classes are required, and a candidate has attended System Administration for the Solaris 10 OS Part 2 which is a common pre-req for both exams, would that single class be sufficient for both exams.
From my point of view, and I suspect a lot of other are in my situation, having an existing SCSA 10.
.... Does this mean that post July 31 2001 if it was desired to gain the OSSESA 10 OCE would a course then be needed to be attended after that date?
.... Looking forward to Solaris 11; does this mean existing existing OSSA/SCSA 10 holder will need to attend a course for the upgrade for what I assume will be Solaris 11 certifications at some point.
    Thanx - bigdelboy

IMHO Certification Forum Moderator's response time is entirely reasonable and expected. She normally visits two or three times a week (has a day job as well!) and I posted this on Friday just after she had done a forum visit to clean up some inappropriated postings. IMHO She normally takes good time to check facts so she can answer with some authority (though a IMHO forum post can never really be totally authorative and contracturally bnding, it is best effort to be helpful). And I would not expect her to work the weekend .... it is important that people other than DBA's and Sysadmins have a life!
but it is true that you need to attend the required course separately for each certification, sometime this sounds crazy to me, where courses are very costly and it is mandatory to have them before you can write the exam.. Course are good specially for those who does not believe on self-study and specially who has got enough money to throw on.. sometime I do not find doing course was worth paying.. Course also depends on the Instructor, if he is good, you can benefit most but if he is not good then you feel lost money.I am assuming you response in this section is in terms of a question rather that an having an authorative source such as the link I gave earlier. While the webpage pubished earlier would seem authorative IMHO is is possilbe it is incomplete or contains an ambiguity or error (bigdelboy is suspicious and solaris can slow due to people who shout at their computers http://blogs.sun.com/brendan/entry/unusual_disk_latency perhaps causing the correct information some time to arrive).
Also it is worth remembering Oracle University have for a lot of courses a +satisifation guarentee' to retake the course if you were not satisfied (you still have to spend resource yourself reattending).  (NB: WDP doesn't have this).

  • Is Solaris better for Java than Linux?

    Hi All,
I am going to set up a distributed processing architecture in Java using RMI and other techniques.
I will be using 2 servers(few more later), one will be used for fetching data from external resources like network/web, etc. and the other server will be used for processing that data.
Now, i am using Linux, however, i have been reading a lot about Solaris 10 and especially its 2 main advantages for using it for Java development.
    1) Java is native to Solaris.
    2) Solaris has a much better support for multi threading than Linux.
Please suggest me if i should move to Solaris 10
    Thanks in advance

This is not my personal opinion, i am saying what link from sun.com saysNo, "+So, *i think* that Solaris *has much more power* than Linux.....and we have to find on that....+ " is your personal opinion. It is not what the article says.
It's an old article, and it's talking quite specifically about threading models. Assuming for the sake of argument that the article is still accurate, it still doesn't answer the question of which OS is more suitable for your application - that will depend entirely upon the characteristics of the application itself.
...and i have asked this to you all just because i may find anyone that have used Solaris with JavaNobody can tell you how your application will run with either Solaris or Linux. If that sort of fine distinction is important you'll need to benchmark it, or at least take into account the actual threading metrics of your application.
Choices between Solaris and Linux are generally made on management, environment, hardware, and other grounds, not the "does it run Java faster" question. For example if you're running on a platform with Niagara then of course you run Solaris. If you're going to need extensive runtime debugging instrumentation then you run Solaris just for DTrace. If you're running on commodity hardware then you probably run Linux for driver issues alluded to here.
Your question, as asked, is unanswerable. Ask a better question.
Edit: Or to give you a far more efficient version of the above "Try it and see." as given by Keith in reply 1.

  • Solaris exam form (Oracle Solaris 10 System Administrator Certified Professional Exam)

    Hello,
In comming days I'm going to try above Solaris 10 exam. Have some questions regarding form of exam (I couldn't find it on Oracle website):
    1. Is it multiple choice test with indication in each question how many answers are correct?
    2. Is it possible to switch questions during exam and get back later to ones which I'm not sure?
    3. Are the results given just after or later

As you see in the section header there's word Network Printers. However in description below there's nothing about printers. There some more examples. Should I also be prepared for questions about printers?
    thanks in advance!
    pete
In the days of the Sun when even an ultrasparc 2 could run solaris 10 and some brainless clot still allowed access to the obp updates there were exams cx-310-201 and cx-310-202.
In fact yours truly got 100% for his "manage network printers and systems processes" despite in practice my setup for printers in Glasgow coming out in Galashields.  In some ways I was quite good at printers.
Then around the exam had a update for S10u5 when the old ZFS and zones etc started to get really going.
( I completed the cx-310-202 under that update).
Refering to Calkins ISBN-13: 978-0-7897-3790-8 for the section he considers as "Managing System processes" there is no mention of printers.
HOWEVER there was a whole section on managing the lp printer service in that book in the very next chapter!
But we are talking history here .... and the exam may have been through further updates ... indeed the current exam is validated against s10u11 (which is about 2/3 years old I would guess without looking it up).
So printing may well have been dropped.  Any other topics may have had to be tweaked.
It's obviously best you know about printing ..... but quite frankly its somewhat rate nowadays.  It can also be a but of a minefield as its been through changes with the releases.  It's quite possible it's dropped from the exam altogether.
    You have 2 reasonable choices:-
    - Study all you can about printers at s10u11.  (Go over what the online documentation says for s10u11).  I'm sure some of this stuff changed throughout the life of Solaris 10.  It shouldn't be more than one or two questions so don't spend too much time on it.
    - Raise an SR at  Oracle University - Support Form   ... Question the discrepancy on the title versus the underlying topics.  ( .. there isn't a category for this .... exam results/score report might be best) questioning the discrepancy in the topics.  Put the SR number back on this thread as if Brandye is happening to pass she might pick it up).
... I can't be sure of anything I have said here.  I may end up confusing rather than helping over Matthew's earlier reply.

The number of the questions in the beta exam is too much for a foreigner (I'm a Chinese), because we need some more time to read and undertand the questions. Anyway, I answered the most of the questions at the last second and have the confidence to pass at least one exam:-)
