Solaris 9 Install Fails at Console Window

I am attempting to install Solaris 9 on an Ultra 10.
Ran boot cdrom from OK prompt, using the install directory.
Got to the selection of language fine, (selected English)
CDE started up, and then got a console window.
It displays the standard install stuff, up to the first prompt:
Can c0t2d0s1 be used ...
The mouse does not respond, and I can not change focus to the console window. I have tried ALT-Tab, ALT-ESC, F10, ALT-Up arrow, ALT-Down arrow, and many more keyboard combinations.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Craig

i want to report I found my problem. I had checked the mouse cable to the keyboard, and it was fine. Today I checked the cable from the keyboard to the box, and the center pin was pushed in.
Pulled it out and now the mouse responds.
Bad troubleshooting on my part, eh?

  • MacBook Windows7 install failing - ntkrnlpa.exe - "Windows failed to load because the kernel is missing, or corrupt."

Trying to do BootCamp Windows-7 install on my MacBook (running 10.5.x).
Detailed progress notes here. Latest: "Windows failed to load because the kernel is missing, or corrupt." (ntkrnlpa.exe) Hit `Enter` to continue, make next selection, but it comes back to error message. So shut down (power button) then reboot with Windows DVD still in there. Ended up with same error!

Best thing to do is nuke the drive, then reinstall Vista again.
I know this is a long process but should get you back running again.
Linux makes odd partitions that recovery does not understand and they don't get deleted properly, boot and nuke will take care of that.

  • Install fails j2re-1_4_2_01-windows-i586.exe

I'm also having this problem with j2sdk-1_4_2_01-windows-i586.exe. The install starts ok, but I ghen get "Failed to extract file Dll_.ini" from the binary table. the 1.3 runtime installs fine, but it looks like the installer changed with 1.4

I finally got this running, but it doesn't make a lot of sense. I took a look at: http://support.installshield.com/kb/view.asp?pcode=ALL&articleid=Q105416&source=support_central&product=wind
I wasn't willing to make all the security changes it suggested, but tried a couple of them which didn't work and I restored the original permissions. I noticed that most if not all gave permissions to local admins, but not domain admins. That gave me the idea of trying log on to the local machine. I did that and both the jre and jdk installed without a hitch. I can't explain why this worked as this machine and my office machine are virtually the same and I built most of both networks. I log on to both machines with my domain userid. The office machine worked the first time. I will be taking a look at the installshield article again to compare the settings on both machines.
Bottom line, try logging in on the local machine and installing.

Install Windows first, then Solaris {not the other way round}. When Solaris installer detects Windows installation and prompts you whether to preserve Windows partition, make sure to select 'preserve' option. I believe Solaris installer creates appropriate GRUB entries for Windows and Solaris. Even if it doesn't, you can always edit the GRUB menu after the installation is complete.
Check the following web site if you need detailed instructions:

  • ProClarity 6.3 PAS install fails on Windows Server 2012

We are trying to install PAS 6.3 on Windows Server 2012 and the install fails with the following error
    The following requirements are missing:
    Windows Server 2003 SP1
We have successfully installed on Windows Server 2008 R2, so it really isn't a Windows Server 2003 SP1 issue.
Has anyone successfully installed on Windows Server 2012?  Is there a way to force the installer not to check for the OS?
    Thanks.
    Kevin

I have a PAS server running in Windows 2012, by doing exactly the same pre-requisites  that you do in Windows 2008 r2 (iis, Framework, SQL ADO 2005 / 2008). With the Windows Server 2003 SP1 message you can avoid it by doing a really simple thing that
is right click the setup file --> properties, and head to the "Compatibility Tab" and run it with compatibility mode Windows 7, also run it with Admin permissions. This let you pass by the message and let you install the product.  Remember, after  the
installation, you need to check all the IIS config, folder permissions, that you did in Windows 2008 x64  installation. Also, the App pool needs to work with .NET 2.0 not 4.0.
    Good luck!

  • HT1349 Trying to install latest iTunes for Windows 7 64-bit. Keep getting this error message "Service 'Apple Mobile Device' (Apple Mobile Device) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services."

Initially iTunes would not run although it had been running quite well up until now. Suddenly received this error on PC start-up "The program can't start because MSVC80.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem." Research on Net pointed me to iTunes as the issue. Tried to start iTunes and received that message again. Tried installing latest version of 64-bit iTunes and received the subject message part way through the install: Trying to install latest iTunes for Windows 7 64-bit. Keep getting this error message "Service 'Apple Mobile Device' (Apple Mobile Device) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services."
iTunes has been running great on this PC for years. What's up?

  • Windows 7 install failing on brand-new Apple-replaced harddrive

I just got my (8-week-old) computer back from Apple, with a brand new hard drive. Before restoring all my files, I figured I'd get Boot Camp installed so the partitions are set, etc.
Every time I try, the Windows 7 install fails about 10% of the way in, with either a 0xC0000005 error (installation sources are unaccessible) or a 0x80070005 error (the only Apple support document about this talks about an upgrade from Vista, which isn't what I'm doing).
Reading posts, I disconnected my USB hub, and this time I got a BSOD with this error:
    iRQLNOT_LESS_OREQUAL
In between tries, I used Disk Utility to remove the boot camp partition, and reset my Mac partition to use the whole drive, so that I could start cleanly with Boot Camp Installer. The one time I tried to launch in Windows and repair, it brought me to the "click any key to launch from DVD" but hitting a key did nothing.
I've installed Boot Camp and Windows 7 twice before with this install DVD, and multiple other times with other DVDs/computers.
Ideas? I'm thinking there's something other than a bad hard drive that was wrong with my computer.

Only by either installing Windows on your iMac as a separate partition through Bootcamp, or setting up a virtual Windows machine via the likes of VMWare Fusion, or Parallels Virtual or Desktop.
Factor in the cost of Windows and I think you'll find a new copoy of Mac Photoshop Elements would be cheaper.

  • Install of ovm-console fails

I wonder if I'm missing something. I have installed Oracle VM Server release 2.1.
Whenever trying to do a 'virt-install' via command line, I get errors...so I thought I would install the ovm-console rpm. When attempting to install, I get the following errors:
    rpm -Uvh ovm-console-1.0.0-2.x86_64.rpm
    error: Failed dependencies:

    m4 is needed by ovm-console-1.0.0-2.x86_64.rpm
Are these packages available anywhere other than 'paid support'? (I have OEL 4 last release and OEL 5 release 1 media available to me...)
Am I installing this in the right place (on the vm server) ? What functionality does this rpm add or fix ? (I understand the tight-vnc on a browser provides connectivity to the running vm, but am unsure as to the purpose of this rpm.)
Should I be installing the 64bit? (Logon screen states Hypervisor running in 64bit mode with Hardware Virtualization Support.)
    Thanks

(1)You need not install ovm-console to Oracle VM Server.
ovm-console includes some plugin for Mozilla/Firefox, and it is useful to enable the console button in Oracle VM manager.

(2)please let us know what errors when you issue 'virt-install'.

  • Solaris 10 DVD install fails at 90%

Hi, this is my first time posting here. I've used a variety of linux distributions for a few years now: first Red Hat, then Suse, then Ubuntu, and currently Gentoo. So I have familiarity with installs and *nix systems.  Now I'm trying to install Solaris 10 on a second hard drive with the install DVD that I burned from a download.  After a few tries, and learning some Solaris command line, I went ahead and selected my custom packages, then made my custom partitioning layout on the second disk, then I began the package install.
It took a while, so I was not there the whole time, but before the error, package install was at 90%. I know I had enough room on the partition for all the packages. After checking the system again I found that it had stopped, and began complaining about not finding packages on the install disk.
I tried the install again, this time with a minimum of my intervention and custom packaging selection. Again the install fails after it is mostly installed. After learning how to mount an IBM formatted disk, I copied the install logs to it, and I'd like to attach them to this post, but I can't see how to do that, if anyone can tell me how to add log files, I'd appreciate it. I just don't want to paste their entire contents here because they're too large.

Hi. I had your same problem with Solaris Express Developer Edition 01/08.
The PC was complaining about the failed installation of some packages:
    SUNWsndmr
    SUNWsndmu
    SUNWsolnm
I suspected they were audio drivers and/or libraries.
So I decided to do an absolutely minimum installation and I even excluded anything that was unnecessary and Audio-related. Actually Solaris Installer complained about unsatisfied USB debendencies, but went on anyway...
    And it worked!
    Solaris completed the installation.
I don't know if it's possible to add the left out drivers in a second moment yet. We'll see.
Maybe I'm wrong but, from your logfiles you seem to have a similar problem with:
    SUNWgttf
    SUNWgnome-config
    SUNWgnome-vfs-root
And I suspect it may be due to a CD/DVD read error.

Try this one too if it applies to your installation requirements: Doc ID 658475.1
    ISSUE:
PIA deployment fails with the following error:
Warning: /apps/psoft/s891t849/webserv/s891t849/applications/peoplesoft/PSOL.war/WEB-INF/lib does not exist. (PSChangeSharedLibPermission)
    SOLUTION:
The error message, unfortunately, happens to be a generic error message. It could be due to several configuration environments:
    (1) The issue could be caused by trying to install PT8.49 as a Peoplesoft user and the web server is another user on a Unix machine. The solution is to try to use the same user to deploy PIA as the one who installed the web server. Deploying PIA with another user other than the one who installed the web server will have file permission problems on the web server directory.
There are some file permission issues when trying to use a user other than the one who installed the web server. During installation, the installer writes script files to a tmp directory.
a- You can try and create a tmp subdirectory that is writable by the user ID you are logged on when installing PIA in there,
b- and then at the same time invoke the following command to force using the tmp directory:
    ./setup.<platform> -is:javaconsole -is:tempdir /...../tmp -console
c- One CT of mine added the Peoplesoft user to the web server group and that helped him solve the issue.
    (2) It could be due to using an old version of PT8.49.xx. Always install the latest patch, available from CC.
    (3) It could be due to not setting DISPLAY=0.0 before the you begin the installation.
It has been stated in page 84 of the (Enterprise PeopleTools 8.49 Installation) manual the following:
Note. ** SET THE DISPLAY- for the UNIX box $> export DISPLAY=0.0. Set this env variable every time you use the InstallShield Wizard.
    (4) It could be that the installer is seeing an incorrect version of Java on the environment. Correct the path to the Java home before deploying PIA on the web server.
Change the directory to <PS_HOME>/setup/PsMpPIAInstall and run one of these commands:
    setup.<platform> -console -is:javaconsole
    or
    <JAVA_HOME>/bin/java -cp setup.jar run -console
where <JAVA_HOME> is the directory where the JRE software is installed.
    The default is <PS_HOME>/jre.
    (5) It could happen when you try to install PIA remotely. Please perform the installation locally on the box.
    (6) It could happen when you try to use GUI mode for the installation. Use console mode only.
    (7) For Websphere 6.1.0.19 on AIX5.3, if you get the following error when trying to install PIA Single Server for websphere from i/setup/PsMpPIAInstal,
"/prod/psft/pt849/setup/PSMpPIAInstall/scripts/waspiainstall.sh[12]: ant: not found. ....... ........ Warning: /prod/psft/pt849/webserv/peoplesoft2/installedApps/peoplesoft2NodeCell/peoplesoft2.ear/PSOL.war/WEB-INF/lib does not exists. (PSChangeSharedLibPermission)
The issue could be solved after adding WAS_Home to path in psconfig.sh file and removing ctrl+M in ant file in WebSphere directory.

    HI,
XP is not compatible, and I would strictly recommend all to use a compatible OS like 2003 ..etc. For the complete information of the compatible platforms

    The last update failed on
my window 7 home prermium pc, resulting in me having to try it manually download and install,
this also failed leaving my I tunes not working, I tried restore back to a
safer date, but every time it tried to update it failed. eventually it told me
to delete and reinstall, this fails due to the apple mobile device service
failing to start, and asking me if I have sufficient privileges to start system
service, I have tried all suggestions on iTunes page, ie delete everything to
do with apple, and start as administrator, nothing works, help please

I too have tried the latest iTunes (12.1.1.4) in Win7. I did a search for latent drivers as you noted but found none. I am glad it worked for you - I'm still no-joy at this point. I'm able to install AMDS over and over again, without issue - it just doesn't start then iTunes launch fails with Error 7. I have to manually remove it.
I am able to connect my iPhone via USB cable and access my photo storage on the phone. I am just not able to install iTunes anymore. I have attempted resolution to this issue for almost two months now. Until that time, I was content with what was installed. It was only when the proverbial update box appeared that I attempted to 'update' my iTunes. WHAT A MISTAKE putting blind faith into an Apple request to update. I SUGGEST NOT TO UPDATE YOUR ITUNES IF IT IS RUNNING PROPERLY!
I realize now, once again I might add, my reliance on software provided by others. It's like anything else, I shouldn't rely on just one method for anything. Time to search for a more pleasant alternative than Apple. Truly, when it worked, it was good at its job, but now that I am wasting time I am looking seriously at upgrading to another type of smartphone and media management software. Way too much trouble for anything as simple as this should be. I wonder, is this a result of another feud with Microsoft?
