Solaris 9 - installing at 2nd HD
Dear all,
I'm trying to install Solaris 9 at the 2nd HD (c0d1) of my PC. After starting up the installation CD and having the GUI poped up, it asks for putting the installation image to my HD. However, it only let me configure my first HD (c0d0). How should I do to make it write on my c0d1? Also, what should I do to make it boot from c0d1? Is it sufficient enough just to rearrange the booting sequence through BIOS?
Thx in advance.
Wilson.

Can you merge two user accounts on a macbook? my wife has created a new user on her new macbook air then, inadvertently, created a second one when using the migration tool. 1st a/c has her office 365 install, while 2nd has her itunes database, docs and contacts. What is the best way forward to get everything into the one account? Not sure if the office 365 will allow another installation into the second account, otherwise would just do that and delete the first, if that is possible?
There is no merge but you can move data from one account to another via the Shared folder. Data is copied from Shared. Watch your free space when copying. These are large files. Do one at a time if you are on a small drive. After making copy, delete from other users before you start next copy.
Office365 installs in the main Applications folder and is available for all users on the computer. Activation is tied to the drive not the User. -
HP Pavilion dv6000t running Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit version. My system currently is running on a single 1GB stick of memory. I have a 2nd matching 1GB stick of memory. When I install the 2nd stick of memory the system will not boot. All the lights come on, the hard drive spins up, but you can not even get into the BIOS setup screen, it just sits there with a blank screen. What could be causing this. Thanks in advance for any assistance you may be able to provide.
Hi:
When I encounter issues like that, I switch the memory modules to see if one of the chips is bad.
So, I recommend you remove the one memory chip that is working, and put the other one in its place.
If the PC boots up, now install the second chip and see what happens.
If it doesn't boot up, then there is some undefined hardware issue.
If the PC doesn't boot up when you initially switch the memory with the one stick, then you know that the one memory module is bad.

I recently installed a 2nd drive in my Mac Pro. I wanted my pictures on the new drive so I moved the Picture file there. I also upgraded my iPhoto. Now iPhoto doesn't know where many of the photos are. Any quick fix?
Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and select the library on the other hard drive from those listed in the window:

Problems making Solaris 10 install disk for x86
I have an Ultra 40 M2. I made a boot/install DVD disk with Solaris 10 for x86.
The system just doesn't recognize it at all, like there is nothing in the DVD drive.
What am I doing wrong?
The DVD drive does recognize other DVDs, just not the Solaris 10 install one (I created two install disks to no avail)How are you burning the DVD. What software/options.

Moving disks while maintaining Solaris 10 install from one v240 to another.
Hi,
I want to move a Solaris 10 install from a sunfire v240
with a single cpu to another sunfire v240 with dual cpu's. Here are the
details of the hosts as well as configuration.
I have 2 sunfire v240's. One has a single 1 Ghz cpu and the second has
dual 1.5 Ghz cpu. I want to move the disks of the single cpu host to
the host with dual cpu's. I want to keep the installed version of
Solaris 10 intact. The installation of Solaris is split across 2
mirrored disks, i.e. 4 disks in total. I am using Suns volume manager
for mirroring and also have one files system mirrored with zfs.
The questions I have are the following:
1) Can I simply shut down the servers and swap the disks to the
destination host, in the same disk slots? The controllers the disks are
on line up and are the same between the 2 hosts.
2) Will the kernel pickup the changes moving from a single 1 Ghz cpu to
dual 1.5. Ghz cpu's with out any problems? Will the kernel pickup the
faster cpu's speeds. i.e. will it know it is now running dual 1.5. Ghz
cpu opposed to a single 1 Ghz?
3) Would we have to break the mirroring on the OS before shutting it
down?
4) As another option, instead of swapping disks, could we swap the
cpus? Move the dual 1.5. Ghz cpu's to the other host? Will the
motherboards read the updates of the cpu or are their jumper settings we
would need to update?

I know there are many factors, but I'm pretty new to both unix & oracle, so I >needed some general steps to get me started. You have many options.
Since you're in 10g, Have the Target Database created in Solaris 10 x86, Oracle 11g.
you can use,
RMAN - Cross platform Transportable Tablespaces.
Datapump Export and Datapump import.

Installing a 2nd hard drive and my USB stop working
Hello! I have a G4 digital audio with a Quicksilver processor installed. I have the IBM Deskstar hard drive as my master and am trying to install a 2nd 80gb Western Digital internal hard drive. The computer is recognizing the 2nd drive to reformat it, but all of my usb accessories have stopped functioning. Any ideas as to what I might be doing wrong?

Did you place the jumper(s) on the 2nd drive to designate it as Slave. Since it's recognized, you probably did.

Minimize and maximize Solaris 10 installed on VM virtual Box.
How can I minimize and maximize Solaris 10 installed on VM virtual Box.
Thanks
PauloSolaris is working just fine. Everything is ok. now since I open Solaris via VM Virtual box, the Solaris main page fills only half of the monitor. I can minimize/maximize the Virtual Box. But Solaris dimensions are fix and doesn't change. This leaves me a little room to open applications on Solaris. I had the same problems with my Ubuntu, by installing adds-on it was fixed. For Solaris I installed Guest additions, didnt help.

How to install a 2nd 10.2.0.5 OMS without the 'upgrade database' step?
Fellow DBAs...
We have OEM environment which uses OMS version 10.2.0.5 - it's recently been upgrade from the 10.2.0.1 base release.
We are trying to install a 2nd OMS. In order to do this we install the base 10.2.0.1 release, and then apply the 10.2.0.5 patch - however, during the patch install the installer tries to 'upgrade' the database again - this causes the install to hang, and eventually we have to crash out of the install.
Does anyone know how to get round this? Is there a flag to skip this step? I thought it would be something like "softwareonly", but I can't find anything that works...
Thanks

Adding packages from solaris 8 install disks
I need Solaris Make for Solaris 8. I have installed Solaris 8 off of downloaded Solaris 8 install disks. I apparently forgot to include Solaris Make in the install and now need to add it. When I copy the pkg SUNWxcu4t (the pkg for make and scc) and pkgadd it it claims installation is sucessful but still I have no make. It is supposed to install to /usr but there is no make there.
What am I doing wrong?
ThanksOk I have all of my compilling isuse resolved!
Just in case anyone else browsing this forum has the same problems here is what I have learned:
These are the relevent Packages:
for tools (ar, sccs, lex, yacc, make, nm, truss, ld, as)
SUNWbtool, SUNWsprot, SUNWtoo
for libraries & headers:
SUNWhea, SUNWarc, SUNWlibm, SUNWlibms
SUNWdfbh, SUNWcg6h
for ucb compat:
SUNWsra, SUNWsrh
You definatly need to use Solaris make (found in SUNWsprot), Solaris ar (found in SUNWbtool),
gnu tar, and gnu cc both from sunfreeware.com (I love pkg-get ^_^)
either add /opt/sfw/bin/ to your path or put a dynamic link for gcc into /usr/local/bin/ I prefer the latter.
and add /usr/ccs/bin/ to your path permanently.
Thanks for your help every one. -

Please, solaris 10 installed in my X86 computer, but do not recognize NIC
Even I get a sun NIC, I do not know hot to install driver. So I am wondering, if I install a Sun PCI NIC, does the
solaris 10 recognize the sun PCI NIC automatically? If solaris can install NIC driver by itself, I will not install NIC driver, thanksA number of drivers for supported cards were installed by default.
Solaris will not take any additional action when you add hardware. Either you've already got the driver and it'll be recognized, or you don't. If you don't have the driver, there might be a third-party driver available that you can download and install.
Best course of action is to add devices that are on the hardware compatibility list.
