Solaris 9 pkg requirements for SMC

We have purchased SunMC a supported product from Sun MicroSystems and maintenance, but keep getting told that it's only supported with a full system load. A full system load is a huge SECURITY risk in any enterprise environment and loads many packages that are not necessary for the operation of SunMC.
Does anyone know what packages are required to run SunMC on Solaris 9!!! If so, I would like the list of packages required to be able to install and run SunMC in a secure manner.
Thanks to anyone who's able to help me out!!!

We have purchased SunMC a supported product from Sun

that it's only supported with a full system load. A
full system load is a huge SECURITY risk in any
enterprise environment and loads many packages that
are not necessary for the operation of SunMC. I've heard of people running SunMC with JASS hardening, (and with minor tweaks with products like Keon) but I've never seen a minimal package listing posted anywhere.
It may be quicker to spend a couple hours running the installer repeatedly and adding packages/libraries as the install script aborts and logs the missing package errors (if you're pressed for time). At least then you'd have an absolute minimal list.
I know I'm not really helping :) - I guess you have to weigh the benefits of a comprehensive monitoring solution against the downside of a few more packages (that only make up one of many layers in your overall security architecture).

  • What packages are required for an 11.2.0.3 install on Solaris 11?

    Where can I find information on which packages are required to install Oracle 11.2.0.3 on Solaris 11?
    The documentation only mentions Solaris 10. I tracked down the packages required for Solaris 10, and most of them are either included in the GA release of 11 or obsoleted.
    There are however a couple of packages that are missing from the base install of Solaris 11:
    SUNWarc (renamed to):
         * consolidation/osnet/osnet-incorporation (installed)
         * developer/library/lint (missing)
    SUNWhea (renamed to):
         * consolidation/osnet/osnet-incorporation (installed)
         * system/header (misising)
    So it looks like developer/library/lint and system/header are packages from required for Solaris 10 that are missing on 11. The installer however doesn't check for any packages whatsoever.
    Does that mean it's safe to install the database?

    Here is list of packages you need in order to install Oracle 11gR2 on Solaris 11:
    SUNWarc SUNWbtool SUNWhea SUNWlibms SUNWpool SUNWpoolr SUNWsprot SUNWtoo SUNWlibm SUNWuiu8 SUNWfont-xorg-core SUNWfont-xorg-iso8859-1 SUNWmfrun SUNWxorg-client-programs SUNWxorg-clientlibs SUNWxwfsw SUNWxwplt
    Some of the above are installed by default which you can find by:
    pkginfo -i SUNWarc SUNWbtool SUNWhea SUNWlibms SUNWpool SUNWpoolr SUNWsprot SUNWtoo SUNWlibm SUNWuiu8 SUNWfont-xorg-core SUNWfont-xorg-iso8859-1 SUNWmfrun SUNWxorg-client-programs SUNWxorg-clientlibs SUNWxwfsw SUNWxwplt
    I believe you will only have to install the following:
    pkg install compatibility/packages/SUNWxwplt SUNWarc SUNWhea SUNWxorg-client-programs SUNWxorg-clientlibs

  • I am trying to upload itunes 10.5, but get a message "There is a problem with this Window Installer Pkg. A program required for this install to complete could not be run.  Contact your support personnel or package vendor".  What is it I need to do?

    I am trying to install itunes 10.5, but during the download I get the following message, "There is a problem with this Window Installer Package.  A program required for this install to complete could not be run.  Contact your support personanal or package vendor."  If this is my personal computer and was able to upgrade to the previous version (pre 10.5), why not now?  What is my "package vendor"? And what is it I need to do to fix this?  The message is unclear.  Unfortunately, I deleted my itunes program, thinking that in doing so, 10.5 would finally load.  Now I have no itunes on my computer and unable to sync my iphone.  Help!
    Thanks - Rick

    Hi Rick,
    by "repair" I mean I went to the control panel, option - programs and features, and in the list of all my installed programs I selected "Apple Software Update". On top of the screen you find the options Uinstall, Change and Repair. I clicked the repair button and that did the trick. After the repair I could uninstall the program. I also uninstalled iTunes, Apple Application Support, Apple Mobile Device Support en Bonjour, thus all Apple programs. Then I installed iTunes 10.5 again and everything went fine.
    Success,

  • Hardware requirements for Sun - Solaris

    I am getting ready for a massive upgrade from 9i to 10g. I was wondering what are the hardware requirements for the management server for 10g..it will be monitoring 30 other servers with 9i / 8i / and 10g databases.

    The referenced document refers to two methods of accomplishing the upgrade. One is to use the upgrade utility and the other is to manually execute the upgrade scripts. There is, however, a third way that is much easier and that gives you immediate access to all of the new features of the 10g database.
    Both of the methods described in the document, which you should read no matter what you do, perform all of the upgrade changes to the existing database. This is why you cannot go directly from 7.3.4 to 10g. The scripts that are behind the process just will not run successfully in a 7.3.4 database. As a result, you would have to upgrade to 8.0.6 and then to 10g. This is the "supported" path, but you do not have to follow this path to achieve a successful upgrade.
    The third upgrade scenario is to create a new 10g database using scripts that you have written that utilize all of the various new features that you would like to use such as locally managed tablespaces and undo management. Once this has been created and tuned up a bit, you would perform an export/import to get your application's code and data from the old database to the new.
    In our enterprise, we have over 450 databases, and we just could not afford to take the time to follow the "supported" path. It would have taken too long, and we had only a few days to convert 272 of these with more time for the rest. As a result, we built our own create scripts for the new databases, ran those in advance of our worldwide deployment date, and then we used the export and import tools to move our application code and data. This was a lot easier than the "official" method, and it works.
    The advantage to this approach is that it is straightforward and does not involve Oracle's upgrade tools which many have had problems using. The disadvantage is that you really have to know what you are doing. If you are not an experienced DBA, you may not have the wherewithal to successfully execute this method.
    Kind regards,
    Russ Cannon

  • Hardware requirement for Oracle Universal Content Management

    Hi Experts,
    What are the Hardware requirements for Oracle Universal Content Management ?
    Regards
    Nasir

    does this help?
    Oracle WebLogic Server 11g (10.3.3) System Requirements
    Oracle WebLogic Server supports a number of platforms including:
    – Linux
    – Sun Solaris
    – HP-UX
    – Windows 2000, 2003 Server, XP
    • Processor:
    – At least one 1 GHz CPU is recommended.
    – Intel and UNIX processors are supported.
    • Hard disk drive:
    – A full installation requires approximately 2 GB of disk space.
    – The Linux value for file descriptors must be 4096 or greater.
    – Samples are optional (download from OTN).
    • Memory:
    – A minimum of 2 GB RAM is recommended for WebLogic
    Server.
    – Consider the number of simultaneous users and sessions.
    – Consider in-memory programs, such as Coherence.
    System Requirements
    The following are some of the basic system requirements for Oracle WebLogic Server 10.3.3:
    • The Oracle WebLogic Server installer requires a Java Runtime Environment (JRE) to run.
    Oracle WebLogic Server is certified with JDK6.0. As part of the installation, it gives the option
    to install the JRockit JDK 6.0 version. As part of postinstallation, prefix the bin directory of
    the JDK to the PATH environment variable.
    • The Oracle WebLogic Server installer requires a temporary location in which to unpack the
    files. Typically, the installer requires approximately 2.5 times the amount of temporary space
    that is required by the installed files.
    Note: In this release of WebLogic Server, users can choose which components of WebLogic Server
    they use. Specifically, this release allows users to choose whether the Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB),
    Java Message Service (JMS), and J2CA services are started when WebLogic Server is started. The
    benefit of excluding some services is reduced memory footprint and reduced startup time.

    Hi;
    I want to install Oracle client 9i in the UNIX server (Solaris 2.8). I am searching requirement for this installation, I don't find it...
    Can any help me please
    Mostafa

    Hi,
    there is no client-server anymore in Oracle Forms. Its a web only deployment. So 1-2 no longer apply.
    3) You need to install Oracle Jinitiator on the client or the Java 1.4 Plugin. Both can be configured for automatic installation.
    See the Oracle Application Server documentation and whitepapers on otn.oracle.com/products/forms to learn about how to install and run Forms Services
