  • Solaris x86 install, but no ZFS

    Hello,
I installed Solaris 10 x86 10/09 in a vSphere environment, but didn't get the option to use ufs or zfs during the install procedure. Is this no option? because I want to use zfs.
    # cat /etc/vfstab
    /dev/dsk/c1t0d0s0 /dev/rdsk/c1t0d0s0 / ufs 1 no
Nevertheless during the boot I've seen the message
    Reading ZFS config: done
    -- Nick

You have to choose the right installation type.
You get a choice of about 5 options interactive, etc. There a note that you need to choose type 3 or 4 to do a ZFS install.
But I can't remember which types that relates to exactly.

  • Solaris x86 install ok, audio not working

I have installed V10 on an MSI AMD x86 (32bit) board, coexisting with my Windows,Linux and OS/2 partitions. All works ok, except audio.
This is an NVIDIA based board, and uses the NForce drivers. I saw one entry in the HCL about the Audio810 driver, but that didn't help.
I need audio to work to try out the Java Desktop Accessibility features.
ps, it works in Linux, Fedora Core 3.
I also installed a Creative PCI Soundcard, so could use this instead. The boot time configurator sees the hardware in the PCI slot, but never does anything with it.
    help help..
    thanks
    Sam

I ran into this as well. As soon as it detects an audio error, it shuts down the "audio server". Once you get valid drivers (or a valid card, like the Sound Blaster), you have to activate the audio server function in JDS.
I can't remember exactly where is it located off the top of my head, but I had to do that last week when I ended up installing drivers for the Intel 82810BA audio chipset. Once I activated the audio server (or sound server or something like that), I was able to get full audio with the exception of the CD audio. I have no idea what that's about.
I remember that I found the audio server check box somewhere in one of the GUI configuration tools. Search around. You should be able to find it after a while.

  • Jre for solaris x86

    hi,
I know that there is a separate JRE for Solaris X86. But my problem is that i have Solaris x86 installed an amd 64 bit machine and also on an Intel 64 bit machine.
I would like to know if it is possible to use the same jre for both the machines.

Edited by: Diganth.A on Feb 4, 2009 11:16 AMThis all depends on the operating system your are using and the type of 64 bit hardware architecture type.
Can you please provide more specific details about the architecture and operating systems you are trying to install your JRE on?
Typically you will want to download a pre-configured JRE for your OS platform and hardware architecture.

  • Fresh solaris 10 x86 install patch update problems 119060-17 ...

Just yesterday, i installed a fresh Solaris 10 x86 onto some pc hardware. After getting solaris installed and issues with my network card, i downloaded and installed the free version of the update manager 1.0.x. Next, i proceeded to update all the general patches for the solaris 10 system. I started with the command 'pprosvc -i' from a terminal. It then proceeded to download and validate a bunch of patches successfully until it hit the following 3 patches:
    119060-17 ---- X11 6.6.2_x86: Xsun patch
    122213-10 ---- GNOME 2.6.0_x86: GNOME Desktop Patch
    122912-02 ---- SunOS 5.10_x86: Apache 1.3 Patch
All 3 failed some kind of validation and then crashed the pprosvc program, at which point it exited with the following error:
    122912-02 cannot be validated
    119060-17 cannot be validated
    122912-02 cannot be validated
Unexpected Failure: java.lang.Throwable: ERROR: Failed to validate the digital signature(s).
I also tried to use the GUI Update Manager to update, hoping the problem was isolated to pprosvc, but that problem was also in the GUI with a similar error message:
Error occurred...The detailed error message is: Unexpected Failure: java.lang.Throwable: ERROR: Failed to validate the digitial signature(s)
Anyone know why Sun's update patch process is so troublesome?
    Getting Tired of Solaris Updates...
I should mention that this is the free solaris 10 x86 install and i don't have a service contract with Sun. If this problem persists, i don't think i'll get one, as i see only further problems after buying one.
    tired and confused

    Hi,
    There is an issue with this that is currently being investigated. There is another thread that may shed some light on what is happening here;
    http://forum.sun.com/jive/forum.jspa?forumID=316
Thread title is : Sun UC, Digitally Signed Patches Using New Verisign Certificates
In the short-term please ensure that the patch mentioned in it is installed.
To quote part of mentioned thread above:
"Once the Sun Update Connection client software is upgraded with patch 121118-06 (SPARC) or 121119-06 (x86/x64) or later revisions normal behavior will resume. "
    If this fails to resolve your problem, would you be kind enough to post the output of the following command for analysis please;
    # showrev -p | egrep -e '121454|121119|120336|121082|121564|122232|119789'

  • Help with oracle 10g install on solaris x86

hi, i downloaded solaris 10 from oracle site (sol-10-u8-ga-x86-dvd.iso) and i have installed it on vmware. i was going through the installation guide for oracle 10 for solaris x86 and while on the pre-installation steps, i issued this command
    # /bin/isainfo -kv
    and it gave me
    # 64-bit amd64 kernel modules
    instead of
    # 32-bit i386 kernel modules
    as the guide expected.
please what can i do, cos the guide says if i dont see the later, the installation cannot complete.
    thnx

First check you Operating System Bit information whether it is 64 or 32 bit , for this first check any of the command path
    Example ls command
    $ which ls
    /usr/sbin/ls
    $ file /usr/sbin/ls
It will show you whether your OS is 64 bit or 32 bit and accordingly download the software from below link ,if it is showing 64 bit os then you have to download 64 bit database software .

  • Installing x86 v9 issues - missing hdd?

    Hello,
I've spent the best part of today installing multiple OS across 2 hdds with few problems save for Solaris x86 9
I downloaded the iso images a while ago, hence v9 not v10.
My issue is that I do not get presented with a choice of which hdd I want to install to, just the 1st, which is referred to as c0d0. I have a relatively modern PC whose BIOS allows selection of boot device etc and I have two, again modern, hdd - both on the primary IDE controller. I am currently booting from the 2nd hdd as I am (very) loath to messing with my lovely, extremely stable and long lived set-up on the 1st hdd.
    hdd 1: WinXP/Linux/[data exchange]
    hdd2: Linux/Solaris*/NT2003/[Linux;Linux;Linux;Linux;NTFS;NTFS]
    /../ = primary [..] = logical *= active
The reference to the Solaris partition is in hope more than anything as it is currently empty.
Any ideas where I should start to resolve this issue? I have been using the "Multi-booting Solaris" guide to help me though this install as well as alot of the stuff at BigAdmin but nothing really has hit the spot yet!
Thanks for any help you can provide
    LouisXIV (totally ironic moniker)
I have tried physically disconnecting the 1st hdd and that did then allow access to the 2nd hdd as c0d1 but then other issues arose...

    Hello and Doh!
I solved my own problem - I used CD1 instead of the Install CD and everything went smoothly from there - I guess I should have read the manual!
Just need to sort out the sound now I'll be v pleased with myself ;0

  • Unbootable Solaris 10 x86 installed on ZFS root file system

    Hi all,
I have unbootable Solaris 10 x86 installed on ZFS root file system. on an IDE HDD
The bios keep showing the msg
DISK BOOT FAILURE , PLEASE INSERT SYSTEM BOOT DISK
    please note :
1- the HDD is connected properly and recognized by the system
2- GRUB don't show any messages
is there any guide to recover the system , or detail procedure to boot system again
    Thanks,,,

It's not clear if this is a recently installed system that is refusing to boot OR if the system was working fine and crashed.
If it's the former, I would suggest you check the BIOS settings to make sure it's booting from the right hard disk. In any case, the Solaris 10 installation should have writting the GRUB stage1 and stage2 blocks to the beginning of the disk.
If the system crashed and is refusing to boot, you can try to boot from a Solaris 10 installation DVD. Choose the single user shell option and see if it can find your system. You should be able to use format/devfsadm/etc to do the actual troubleshooting. If your disk is still responding, try a `zpool import` to see if there is any data that ZFS can recognize (it usually has many backup uberblocks and disk labels scattered around the disk).

  • Please suggest the fastest way to install Solaris x86 PC 30 boxes

I've already tested one and it's successfully installed.
I have to install 30 boxes , all are same spec.
Please advise the fastest procedure to install.
Note : There is no sparc machine.

Only problem with imaging a Solaris x86 box is that your machines will end up with the same hostid (which is pseudo-randomly generated at Solaris installation time for x86). This may, or may not, be a problem, depending on what commercial software you use...
To avoid this, you have to use jumpstart, or do some serious hacking.

    Java is built-in.
Or you can download a new version from java.sun.com on a different machine and then sftp it over to the Solaris box.
