Solaris CD Download

Help from Anyone would be Appreciated. I am trying to download the Solaris 8 Binaries for Sparc (upgrading a SS20). I try to burn the ISO image to a CD-R and when I mount it back in Windows (or Mac OS X) all I get for a directory listing is 3 files and one Symbolic link. There is nothing else on the disk? Is this normal? Disk info says that there is only like 122K on Disk. I have tried over 3 different Cable Connections, as Single files, as Segments, from IE, Netscape, Omniweb, from the terminal using wget or curl. The software CD's seem fine as those download and burn just fine and Either Windows explorer, or Mac OS X sees everything on the Disk. Is there something Special I should know about this? Here is the ls -laF output
drwxrwxr-x 2 root daemon 2048 Sep 12 20:11 ./

It's no metter what software you using. I have same problem, but because my SPARCstation hasn't CD I decide to install it by tftp protocol (boot from NETwork). so instead of burning image I just mounted them to my Linux box. The ls command gets just that:
[root@pluto hd]# ls -al

  • Solaris 11.1 AI client: solaris.zlib download times out

    Hi all,
I am trying to install a client off the current AI image. I have not modified any manifests and just run the default config after "installadm create-service" which should give me an interactive text install mode. The client has the Intel I350-T2 adapter ( [http://ark.intel.com/products/59062/Intel-Ethernet-Server-Adapter-I350-T2] ) installed. The PXE part finishes quite fine, the client receives the IP from the DHCP server, the boot loader and the subsequent boot_archive download quite fine over TFTP.
But just after the Solaris installer loads ("Probing for device nodes ..."), the connectivity is lost (ICMP echo requests are not answered anymore) and subsequently, the HTTP download of the solaris.zlib network image fails ("Connecting to: <IP address>:5555... failed: Connection timed out.") . I would suspect that the NIC driver's probing simply is unable to recognize the i350 network adapter, but when I can drop to the shell (after 10 failed connection retries), I can run "ifconfig -a" and see the "igb0" interface plumbed and configured with DHCP (at least for a while until the lease expires) - so something appears to be detected by the driver and configured according to the lease granted to the host in the PXE phase. /system/volatile/install_log does not exist at that point, /var/log/syslog is empty and the command set is very limited (no "dmesg"), so I am a bit stuck without any usable log files available.
Am I guessing correctly that I would need a specific NIC driver set upon install for the i350? If so, how would I go about integrating an additional NIC driver into the AI install procedure?
    Thanks, kind regards,
    Denis

After having performed a manual installation from media, I have noticed problems with the Ethernet interfaces on this system - packets were timing out, connections seemed dropped. A look into "fmadm faulty" presented me with a couple of events for pci@0,0/pci8086,3c08@3/pci15d9,1521. According to "prtconf -v" it is a "pciclass 0200" (Network Controller) and is carrying a "compatible" alias of pci8086,1521 (Intel i350 Powerville NIC). I double-checked with other OSes and the NICs seem running quite fine on the same machine, so the problem is apparently with the hardware's driver.
At least I am sufficiently positive now that it is not an AI issue, thanks for reading.

  • Solaris 8 Download Install - Install CD Question

Hello, I am new to Solaris. I do have experience with
    BSD/LINUX/SCO installations.
I too have downloaded the zipped images from Sun. Actually 4 as I downloaded the install, v1, v2, docs and the additional pgm zipped image file.
I checked each CD after buring with my LINUX system to make sure that the files are readable.
All seems OK except I am not certain about the install CD. I have listed the details of the iso file that was unzipped (to Win) and then the contents of the rresulting CD.
I am not certain if this is the way it should be as I would expect to see more.

  • Installing Solaris 8 binaries after download

I'm a newbie and need some help!
I have recently downloaded the Solaris 8 binaries (SPARC), I went for the the multiple file segments. However, I am unable to work out how to bind the files back together to create the CD images (bootable?). Can anyone help or provide a URL to the document that explains this, I haven't used sun.com before and cannot find anything that I'm looking for.
    Thanks in advance.

Although for a different product, this should help. http://wwws.sun.com/software/solaris/freeware/download.html
Basically, you need to unzip all the files, cat the unzipped files together in order into a single file with .iso extension.
Then burn the CD from an image file. Using Easy CD Creator, as Sun suggests, you will select File -> Record CD from Image. Select the .iso file and burn.

  • Upgrade of 8.1.7.4  on Solaris 5.8 to Oracle 10g

    Hi Gurus-
We are planning to upgrade some of the legacy databases to 10g.
They are all 8.1.7.4 instances on Solaris 5.8 with Standby configuration.
1)Is it possible to upgrade the instances on the same OS version(5.8) to 10g?
2)Where can I find the related documents which detail the supported OS versions pertaining to 10g?
3)Since the environment consists of Standby how can we minimise the downtime of upgrade? Any best practices and proven methods please.
Need to convert the existing DMTs to LMTs as well.
    Appreciate your valuable inputs
    Thanks,
    newDBA

    Hi newDBA,
    to answer your questions:
    1) Yes, according to Metalink ==> Certify ... Solaris 5.8 is certified to run an Oracle 10gR2 installation:
Operating System: Solaris Operating System (SPARC) Version 8
Oracle Database - Enterprise Edition Version 10gR2 64-bit
    N/A Version N/A
    Status: Certified
    Product Version Note:
    None available for this product.
    Certification Note:
    Existing Patch Sets:
    10.2.0.2 Requires patch 5117016
    10.2.0.3
    10.2.0.4
    2) See first of all the CERTIFY button on Metalink and make sure also to check the release notes and the installation guide for Oracle on Solaris:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/relnotes.102/b15689/toc.htm
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b15690/toc.htm
3a) Minimize the downtime with a standby
Your standby will be upgraded implicitly - this means you upgrade the production database and you restart your standby in MOUNT mode in the new environment you've installed on the standby machine as well. Once you switch your standby to ALTER DATABASE RECOVER MANAGED STANDBY DATABASE DISCONNECT; then it'll start synchronizing with your already upgraded production system.
During the regular upgrade either with DBUA or CATUPGRD.SQL there's not much possibility to shrink your downtime. You should create dictionary stats right before the upgrade but mainly the time it'll take is dependent on the number of options/components you've installed in your current database.
Recompilation by the way will be done automatically in parallel - so CPU power will save you some time here.
But always the question will be:
Can you accept approx 1-4 hours of downtime or not?
3b) Dictionary Managed Tablespaces to Locally Managed Tablespaces
As long as you don't touch the system tablespace this can be done online with no additional downtime. But as soon as you convert also the SYSTEM tablespace you have to startup your database at this point in RESTRICT EXCLUSIVE mode - which in fact means downtime.
Hope this helps - kind regards
    Mike

  • How to install owb server-side software on UNIX Solaris (SPACR-64)?

    Hi there,
How to install owb server-side software on UNIX Solaris (SPACR-64)?
    I've read the install guide
    and it mentions
    3. Start the installer by entering the following at the prompt:
    cd mount_point
    ./runInstaller
I don't have access to any graphical interface on the UNIX box e.g. x-windows nor any cd with the software, just the solaris software downloaded from web - does this include the runinstaller
and is the runisnatller just a command line interface?
I hoped I would be able to download the software from oracle website and then simply run the a setup scrip?
Is it possible to do this? Would I simply substitute cd mount_point to cd <directory I put software)
I've never ran oracle universall installer on UNIX before.
    Many Thanks

    Hi,
You can install the server-side software from the downloaded software.
    You don't need the CD
You do need an X-windows client on your computer to connect to the server OR work directly on the server.
Without X-windows you cannot start the Oracle Universal Installer.
Maybe there is a command line installation, I have never used this.
    I hope this helps.
