Solaris hangs after reboot on HP DL160

Hi,
my HP DL160 runs fine with Solaris 10, but you can't do a soft reboot, because it won't boot Solaris after that (hangs after loading kernel). I think it's because of a ATA Bug, but nothing has helped to solve the problem (done the ata-revert-to-defaults=0...etc.).
Can someone please help me?
Bye

can you please help by guiding us what really need to be done? i have the same problem on the same model of machine. tq

  • Upgrade to Solaris 10/08 hangs after reboot

I upgraded to Solaris 10 10/08 however the system hangs after reboot.
I had never any issues with its previous versions. Any thoughts?

To be sure I upgraded to the latest BIOS.
Both kernel debugger and single user mode do not work.
This seems like a serious issue in my opinion.

  • Lion 10.7.1 system hangs after reboot

Strange, I have just updated to 10.7.1 (via SW update) on my Macbook Pro and now the system does not boot. It restarted and now hangs since minutes with the spinning wheel on a grey screen. Anyone experienced this, too? Any solutions?
    Thanks a lot.

Regarding the occasional system hang on reboot people are experiencing. I have two troubleshooting suggestions to help you get to the login screen, but aren't solutions to the problem of whatever is causing the system hang. 1) I find my hangs are usually solved by removing my USB devices from the 2 USB ports (via USB hubs) and rebooting. 2) Furthermore, if I boot into verbose mode (holding command+v right before the chime) (sometimes after removing the USB devices, sometimes not), that usually helps the boot process along, either due to just chance (I don't know why booting into verbose mode would help it surmount the initial hang, but it seems to work sometimes) or some other reason.
    Good luck.
Yeah that better be one big fat good luck there, because that advice is not going to help anyone that is having this problem. Not one little bit. Some kind of magic that Verbose Mode casts will fix it? Uh, no. That would be a figment of your over-eager imagination, Verbose Mode doesn't change anythig. Oh and by the way, in order to get to this stage in the probelm, you would have had to use verbose mode to get the error message.  I can only assume that you sir are the real troll here, because our friend above asked a question that is worth merit and consideration, given the compatibility disaster that Apple has on their hands. To call it a disaster is not in the least bit an exaggeration.
We're going to have to ignore This is not an "occassional system hang", this is a serious problem affecting my MacBook Pro 17" and my iMac 27"., and it occured on both of them for me after installing Lion Server.

  • Hang after reboot ( Bootcamp Assistant )

I have a mac, which I want to install Windows to.
After running the bootcamp assistant, my mac reboots, and then hangs.
If I reboot again, into the startup menu, I see two DVD disk's. One called Windows and one called EFI something. If I choose the EFI something, I get into the windows installer, but it will not let me install to the bootcamp partition. If complains about a mix of partition types. If I choose the Windows disk, I am told there is not bootable device.
If I remove ALL partitions form the harddrive, using the windows diskpart utility, then I can install windows. But that is no great help, since I also want OSX.
I am running 10.8.2, and have triede both Windows 7 and Windows 8.

The EFI option is the wrong option to choose, you need to choose the Windows option. But because you used diskpart on the disk, which doesn't understand hybrid MBRs, you no longer have the proper hybrid MBR. That's what Boot Camp Assistant creates, and any other tool on the planet has a high chance of damaging.
So you need to use Disk Utility to create a single new partition, meaning go to the Partition tab, click "1 partition" instead of the default "Current" option. Install OS X. And then follow the Boot Camp guide step by step.

  • Lion upgrade seemingly hangs after reboot at the "Installing" prompt

I ran the Lion installer in the InstallESD.dmg file located on the desktop of my fully functional 10.6.8 installation.
The first part where the installer does various things, including "Downloading additional components", went well and completed with a Restart button, which I pressed.
Then the linen texture appeared with the big white Installing prompt and the blue-white candy/progress bar. But nothing else happens.
I left it for ten minutes and then pressed the power button on my Mac Pro until the computer shut off. Then started the computer again.
But I come back to the linen background and the candybar prompt.
Must I really wipe the drive and clone back 10.6.8 and start over?
    Thanks for any ideas.
    /p

I have tried the following, all without result:
    - resetting the PRAM
    - verifying the checksum of the downloaded Lion file
    - installing on the bootdrive (SSD) to which I downloaded Lion (thinking that perhaps it must be installed on that drive)
    - installing on an external harddrive by upgrading a Snow Leopard system with all updates
    - installing on a second internal SSD by upgrading a Snow Leopard system with all updates
I'm completely at a loss and have no fraking idea what to do.
The reason I wish to upgrade is to be able to use Office for Mac which uses a Rosetta installer. Were it not for that I would happily have done a clean install. But since the upgrading goes so badly I guess I will have to buy the new Office.
    Gah.

  • Installing Itunes 6 renders computer dead after reboot

Meant to post this long ago. Was just going to walk away and forget it but someone bought my daughters an iPod so I’m going to try again…
(Possible solution at the end of my rant)
19-Oct-05 about 11:00pm I installed itunes 6. The install went fine and prompted to reboot at the end. I said no. A few minutes later I rebooted.
The computer hung on reboot at the windows is starting up logo screen.
I reset and tried safe mode with networking this hung at the text startup screen.
I reset and tried safe mode this hung at the text startup screen also.
I tried last known good configuration and this too hung
I tried all the other options and all of them hung at either the logo or text startup screen.
I got the windows2000 install CD and tried to repair. The first time I ran repair it seemed to check the disk and did nothing else. Still had hang after reboot. Then I tried manual repair console. This allowed me to look around and see that the files were OK. Chkdsk showed no problems. I looked for log files but found none with anything interesting. I suspected that the problem was with a driver so I looked in system32\drivers. I couldn't tell which drivers were just added because the files would have the time they were built not the time installed.
I rebooted many times with no luck.
I tried the windows install CD again. This time repair offered to replace all the files that were different from the install media and I took this option. Still had hang problem after reboot. Tried safe mode and a few other options.
Searched the web (from another computer) and found only one mention of a similar problem but it was about iTunes 4.1
I tried repair console again and this time (thanks to the windows repair) there were only a few drivers with dates in 2005. I renamed two
    - mmc_2k.sys
    - GEARAspiWDM.sys
This time booting into safe mode worked. Restarted and tried normal boot and this worked also. Now the computer reboots but I have hours of work ahead to reinstall all the windows updates. I tried to uninstall iTunes but it failed because now an old version of windows installer (MSI) is installed. I’ll spare you the details of getting the OS and all my software to work again. (It took days)
I wanted to find out which driver was the real problem. Renamed the two drivers back to the original names.
    Got hang on restart again.
Using repair console renamed just GEARAspiWDM.sys and system rebooted fine. So GEARAspiWDM.sys must be the problem.
To sum up: GEARAspiWDM.sys bad. If this happens to you try deleting this file from WINNT\system32\drivers. If I had known this I could have saved myself the trouble caused by doing the full system repair.
Disclaimer: This worked for me but I don’t know if it will work for you.
What I wonder is why couldn’t Apple tell me and everyone else about this problem and how to fix it?

  • Solaris 8 x86 Hangs on reboot with Verfying DMI Pool Data

I've just installed solaris 8 on intel. I previously run 2.7 on same system no problem.
After installing 8 and rebooting the machine hangs after displaying
    Verifying DMI Pool Data .........
It appears to of verified, but then does nothing else. I have checked all components are compatible (supported), tried differing rebuilds, upgrading from 2.7 However every time I get the same problem.
    Any ideas?
    alan (every).

    Green,
I need you to think really hard here with me...what was the last program, piece of hardware you loaded into the machine? I've seen this problem so many times and it will drive you wild...you're having a driver or software issue during bootup and it's hanging the system..
What I would do is see if I can get into safe mode by hitting F8 as the system starts up...if it will boot into safe mode then go uninstall whatever the program is that you installed last or uninstall the drivers of whatever hardware you installed last...
    Then try rebooting again normally...
I'll warn you now that I've only been successful in doing this when I've rebooted the system twice prior to trying this fix...if you rebooted more than twice it will corrupt your MBR and you'll have to FDISK and start all over again...
Insert your boot disk Win98SE preferred...select Boot from floppy with no CDROM or Network...
Type FDISK at the A prompt...go in and delete the non dos partition...DON'T CREATE ANOTHER PARTITION OR FORMAT THE DRIVE...
If it's a Western Digital Drive go to their website and get their Drive Utility tool and run it on the drive...
If it's a Maxtor go get Powermax from their site and run it on the drive...
Do same for any other mfg drive i.e. Seagate, IBM or whatever...
THEN if it passes the tests with no errors use the drive to reload your OS again...THIS TIME load your drivers one at a time, same with your software...Do a system restore point prior to each load...this way you can easily undo whatever fails if anything...
    Hope that helps!
    Cheers!! 8)

  • After upgrading to ICS my Xperia mini (ST15i) hangs and reboot itself?

Ah I was very happy after getting official ROM of ICS but my happiness goes down very soon because now I'm facing many problems with my phone.
It is hanging most of the time at least once or twicw in a day, sometime hangs and reboot itself but sometime I have to estart it by remove the battery. When it hangs if my battery is at 90% and I remove the battery and put it back and restart it then it goes down to near about 70% or less.
Phone dial pad is very slow to open than 3rd party softwares. Back and Option key response very slow. I know this could be performance issue but this is too much.
However many apps goes to hang, mostley my browsers I wa using Boat and Dolphin HD browser and after upgrading I tries Chrome which also hangs. My phones battery drain so fast now also my phone heat too.
I tried to contact the support thorugh E-mail but still yet no reply so I'm here to ask this please help me guys. I have very slow bandwidth so please suggest me the good way to solve this problem. I don't want to downgrade but if its neccessary then I'll.

regarding the phone/dialer download Dialer One
regarding your battery life, you should check which apps are causing this
charge your phone 100% use it as you normally would then once it reaches 10%
settings > battery > take screenshots of this list an the graph, also tap on each item and take screenshots post them here
delete taskillers, antivirus, battery apps, ram apps as they slow down your phone, drain your battery and cause a lot of issues.

  • Fresh install of solaris 10 x86 hangs after 'Configuring devices'

    Hi All,
I just received a new SuperMicro server with an LSI MegaRAID SAS 9261-8i controller. While trying to install Solaris 10 it hangs after "Configuring devices". I checked the LSI page and Solaris 10 is supported according to them. Any ideas how to proceed?
Fairly new to Solaris on x86 hardware.
The system has a Xeon X5690 processor in an Intel Workstation Board S5520SC motherboard. The motherboard documents claim that not disabling usb 2.0 can hang an install. I have disabled the usb 2.0 in the bios but the system still hangs. Booting it with the -kd and -kv options don't give much information.
Any help is appreciated. I might be returning these machines if I can't get this worked out.
    Cheers,
    Steve

See if you can add the verbose option "-v" to the kernel boot options. I think you can get to the GRUB menu off the Solaris 10 install disk. That should tell you what device is causing the hang, or at least the last device that worked.
Also, can you try Solaris 11 and see if it gets past that point? A few years ago I has a similar issue with Solaris 10 on a Dell server. Solaris 11/OpenSolaris worked fine, though. IIRC I could work around the issue if I disabled the 2nd CPU - Solaris 10 had a problem bringing up the 2nd CPU on that Dell's CPU/MB config.

  • System hangs on reboot/shutdown after kernel upgrades

I've been experiencing the problem that, whenever pacman upgrades the kernel, the system hangs on reboot or shutdown.  It only happens on the first reboot/shutdown after a kernel upgrade.  I've noticed it consistently for a while now.
    To reboot, I issue:
    # reboot
    To shutdown, I issue:
    # shutdown -h now
I should also mention that I typically reboot after kernel upgrades because hotplugged storage devices (USB, SD) fail to be detected unless the system reboots.  That is, devices plugged in during the upgrade remain usable, but plugging in something new appears in /dev.  There may be an obvious reason for it that I'm missing, but it's never bothered me enough to look into it.  Not sure if this and the reboot/shutdown issue are related, though.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

When Apple Hardware Test says there is a problem, there definitely is a problem.
But like many diagnostics, it does not catch everything.
It can increase your confidence that you do not have gross flaws. The Hardware problems that remain may be more subtle ones.

  • System hangs at POST after reboot

I have a Dell L400 laptop (p3 700mhz 256mb 20gb hd) and have sucessfully installed arch along with xfce and a few other programs. Everytime I reboot via "reboot" cmd or through xfce, the system unmounts everything and reboots but hangs at the POST screen. I cant get into bios or the boot option menu either. I also have a stripped down windows xp installed (before arch) and i can reboot from there. any ideas on whats going on?

Hi, I have exactly the OPPOSITE problem from you. Windows won't do a warm restart - hangs after the POST. Arch WILL do a warm restart. I still haven't figured it out. I am assuming that Windows is messing up something in the hardware that mucks up the restart and Arch isn't. Since you and I have different hardware for sure, you are likely experiencing the same sort of problem, but from a different source!
In my case, a simple power cycle resolves the problem and Windows boots properly. However, it will only boot from a power on. It will never boot from a warm restart.
