Solaris installation on toshiba laptop along with windows
i installed solaris 10 on my toshiba laptop,having windows.The solaris get installed but i am able to use only through commands.the gui is not showing.while installation also the gui is not showing but when installed in virtual bow gui is showing at the time of installation and after installation i am able to use the gui of solaris 10 and works fine.dont know what is the reason while installing on laptop directly
The reason is simple why it's work on VirtualBox. In VBox, this software emulates a generic graphical chipset. In one phrase, we have the same chipset for each machine type.
Look if Solaris 10 can run with VESA driver and when not you can still share the chipset reference that you have and I can try to see if this is supported or not.

It is critically important for you to have created Recovery media before attempting to create a dual boot installation. Make sure that it works by performing a Factory Image recovery.
Make sure that the Ubuntu type matches the Windows 8,1 type. That is critical for a dual boot installation.
A 64-bit OS type will see or recognize other 32 and 64-bit operating system.
If you have a 32-bit Ubuntu it will not see Windows 8.1 as being present.
A 64-bit version of Ubuntu will work well with a 64 or 32-bit version of Windows 8.1.

The hub may not be broken per se, but Apple has made adjustments to the limits on current that can be drawn from ports.
You probably need a new hub.

Because i saw it was only 20 in the mac store if i can actually upgrade to it then i would buy it but if its only mac compatable why the heck would i buy it. i am very mad at microsoft right now and i am tired of thewindows operating system's.

Unfortunately, you have probably wiped out the Toshiba Recovery partition on your HDD when you used the Windows 7 64bit retail disk to reinstall your OS. As well, it sounds like you never made a set of Toshiba Recovery disks before this mishap. The info for all this begins on page 61 of your Satellite M640 Series User’s Guide.
Using the recovery utility would have rebuilt your HDD to its factory default out-of-the-box state, including the recovery partition, Win 7 64bit, all Toshiba drivers and utilities, and all software your system originally came with. If you do not think you wiped out the recovery partition when you reinstalled Windows, then while powering on the system you could try holding down the '0' (zero) key until you see the Toshiba Recovery utility menu. If this doesn't work see this article:

If none of the above works, you can still order a set of recovery media from Toshiba, which I would strongly recommend. Rebuilding the recovery partition, and having a set of recovery disks for backup, could save you a lot of grief on this, and on any future rebuilds.

However, if your recovery partition won't work and you are unwilling to order a set of recovery media, then see these instructions and use this utility:

For first booting from usb/cd-rom it shows along side with windows after hitting continue button it reboots from the begin and starts all stages and shows without alongside with windows option during installation.

Solaris installation on amd64 laptop
Hi!
I am trying to install Solaris 10 on a laptop (HP Pavilion zv6000 with an amd64 processor).
The installation begins normally with GRUB. The problems I a experiencing start when I have the opportunity to choose between 'Solaris interactive', 'Custom jumpstart' and take place whatever is the choice I made with GRUB (Solaris, ttya or ttyb).
The screen becomes almost unreadable. Strange characters are displayed and many others are missing. It is also impossible to interact with the system using the keyboard. The only way to proceed is to wait to reach the timeout to select automatically the default option.
Moreover the installation freezes randomly, sometimes during the countdown (after which 'Solaris interactive' is chosen by default) or afterwards... But this always takes place at different times. Anyway I cannot read what is displayed on the screen.
Would you have any ideas?

BlackBerry Desktop Software 6 doesn't go along with Windows 7 ?
I tried to install applications using BlackBerry Desktop Software 6 on my Windows 7 laptop, a weird thing happened: after selected applications to install and hit apply button, the software wouldn't go downloading or do anything, just went back right away to refresh the application list.
I've got other couple of computers with Windows XP, Vista and Windows Server 2008, so I tried the software on them, no any problem.
Anybody get the same problem? What the reason could be?One of my laptops is running Windows 7 and I just recently, and successfully, installed the BlackBerry Desktop Software. I would try going into your computer's Control Panel and seeing if the Desktop Software did in fact install. If it did, then uninstall it and try again. If you are still having issues, try running the installation in Compatibility Mode. To find the .exe file of the BlackBerry Desktop Software, navigate to My Computer (Windows Key + E) > Right-Click on the CD in the Drive > Select 'Open'. I have attached an image below for visual reference.

I see you are running into scan issues. I would like to help. Are you connected via a USB cable connection, or a wireless connection?
I would recommned downloading and running the HP Print and Scan Doctor. Once you have launched the Doctor, select the 'fix scanning' option.

Question: Why when downloading a purchased movie from ITunes does it take 8 to 17 hours to download? I have an HP Laptop with Windows 7 using a core processer i7. This is the second day to try to get the movie downloaded and I still cannot watch this movie. Seems like a problem with ITunes or a scam. I use a IPhone 4 with little issues, But when using this lap top -- it is a joke.

Hard Drive Failure on HP DV 6000 Pavilion laptop - Need Data Recovery Help
HP Pavilion DV 6108 NR, RG365UA, purchased in late 2006 at Best Buy, with Windows XP, upgraded to Service Pack 3. It has a Fujitsu hard disk, 60 gigabyte, partitioned into C: and a Recovery D:.
Windows tries to boot up, but goes to blue screen with the message: "Unmountable Boot Volume" for one second, then just keeps recycling until I force a shutdown.
BIOS Phoenix, hard drive test result: " #1-08 Fail "
I ran a disk analysis/recovery program on the Cdrive and it seemed to show the directory structure intact, and it was able to recover some files. I was using the free one from Seagate (which only recovers small files). The second pass didn't run so well, and during the third run the program said I should not proceed further, and I should contact a professional disk recovery company.
However, the D drive seems to be intact, so, I wonder if the disk is corrupted or just some aspect of the logical C drive is bad. Or does the disk have a mechanical failure, in which case, is a recovery disk even helpful at all?
How can I get the D: to run the recovery software on it? The recovery disks, made by Best Buy, only proceed to the R / F / Q option screen, and when I press R, I get a blue screen every time.
Tapping the F10 key during startup gets me nowhere. Ditto the F11 key.
I dont care about the hard disk; it is the data (files, docs, images, etc) that I want.
I contacted HP to order recovery disks but they are no longer available for my computer. (But see below, "UPDATE")
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

But I wonder how useful it would be. Early XP , no doubt. And if my hard disk problem is a mechanical fault, would any recovery disk even work? The disks made by Best Buy when I bought mine new in 2006 don't do anything more than go to the R /F/ Q screen and then my computer goes to a blank blue screen when I press R (to recover the OS and apps and data files). And, as I wrote, it is the data that I want, not the disk drive.
Any help here would also be appreciated!

Thank you for your inquiry, I am happy to help.
I grasp you tested the hard drive from the bios and it failed. This tests the physical aspcects of the hard drive and when it fails it does require replacement. You were able to retrieve some of your files using recovery software but not all.
Your recovery partition is still intact and when you try to do a recovery with the disks from Best Buy you do not get past these options R / F / Q but will not proceed.

If you are still unable to do the recovery, you could try contacting Best Buy for assistance with the recovery kit they provide.
I don't know if it is possible, but you may want to check cloning software to see if you could clone the D partion to the new drive or connect both drives and try a drive to drive copy of the D partition.
If you were able to successfully put the D partition on a new hard drive you should be able to do a recovery from the D partition to take it back to factory.
If none of the above has allowed you to successfully do a recovery, I suggest contacting Best Buy to see it they have options other then purchasing a third party recovery kit.
