Solaris installation - ORA-27302
Hi,
I was trying to install the Oracle Collaboration Suite on a Solaris box. During the Information storage, I got the following error in the Oracle Database Configuration Assistant:
ORA-27302: failure occured at: skgpwreset1
ORA-27303: additional information: invalid shared ctx
ORA-27146: post/wait initialization failed
ORA-27300: OS system dependent operation: semget failed with status: 28
ORA-27301: OS Failure message: No space left on device.
ORA-27302: failure occured at: sskgpsemsper.
The disk for Oracle is total 27 GB and still have 14 GB free space.
I have inserted the sample setting stated in the Table 2-19 to /etc/system and installed the patch clusters.
Anyone has any clue about this problem?
Most probably you have run out of 'inodes' - check the documentation for the kernel parameter settings like max open files, ulimit etc etc
hope this helps
Gavin This helps! Thanks Gavin!

Can anyone please help regarding this issue and defunct oracle process?
ThanksWell, You should get one.
But this error is related to too low opsystem parameters. Check system logs (/var/adm), dmesg and others to see is there any at time of crash with some more detailed information.
Check You swap space, if some process ocuppied 8GB, then it can happen that You run out of swap.
and I would suggest to bounce database, kill all defunct processes and start database again. -
No Disk meet the criteria for Solaris installation
Hi all, I have a problem when trying to install Solaris 8 (Intel) on my PC. There are some funny things happened while installing the OS.
1.) My motherboard does not support booting from CD-ROM, so I downloaded a Device Assistant Boot Disk to boot it up. Then I use dd.exe to make the boot disk from the image, I have tried many times that after creating the boot disk, this boot disk will contain 512 bytes of bad sector. So why?
2.) After using this boot disk to boot up and install the OS, before entering to the detection of the bus type stuff (still on the white screen), at the bottom of the screen, it says "ata_command select failed ... ...", what does this mean?
3.) When the system go back to the white screen with language selection, I choose English (which is 1), and the system try to find my hard disk, but it failed and says "No Disk meet the criteria for Solaris installation" with a new line saying "installation documenation found.". So what is happening?
Appreciate for any help.

Hello all,
Looking for some guidance with a 10.2.0.1 database on Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition server. I have an SR open with Oracle, but getting the usual run-around and no conclusive explanations.

The database remains functional while this is happening, but we are no longer able to establish new sessions to the database. The only remedy so far, as is the case with most Windows issues, is to reboot the server. The support analyst has recommended that we add the "/3gb" switch to the boot.ini as he feels we are hitting the 2GB limitation for a single process. My concern is that in looking at the trace file, it would appear that there's only around 1.6GB of memory consumed in total on the server (8190M - 6548M = 1642M), so there should be no single process that's coming even close to the 2GB limitation. I've been watching the oracle.exe process for the last week, and it always hovers around 700M. The total SGA size is about 600M.
Interestingly enough, we're in the process of downgrading the database from Enterprise Edition to Standard edition and on the development server, we've currently got the old 10.2.0.1 EE database and the new 10.2.0.5 SE database running concurrently. The EE version has encountered the same issue described above, while the SE version has not.
My other problem is that I work in the pharmaceutical industry and this is a heavily regulated database and I cannot make arbitrary changes to databases/servers without evidence to support the change.
Any Oracle/Windows experts out there that can shed some light on this problem?
ThanksThanks to both of you for the speedy response. I have already seen that article, as well as 790397.1 - PROCESS J000 And M000 Die [ID 790397.1]. I'm just a little confused as to why Oracle is saying it's an out of memory condition when there's nothing in the log or trace files (other than the condition matches a couple of articles they have) that support the conclusion. Don't get me wrong, I'm certainly not an Oracle on Windows expert, most of my stuff revolves around Linux/UNIX and I avoid anything windows like the plague, other than starting a putty session.
My understanding is that each process in a windows 32bit environment gets a 4GB Virtual Address Space, which is split into a lower 2GB application space and an upper 2GB kernel space. If the trace file is showing that only 1.6GB of physical memory has been consumed, wouldn't this indicate that there isn't a single process on the server that is even close to reaching it's 2GB limitation? -
Solaris 8 - No Disks that meet the Criteria in the solaris installer documentation
Hi there

Please Check the system or try another installation option
then it gives me Unix Prompt , I tried to use FDISK but could not get the right Disk name , I tried FDISK /drv/dsk/c0t0d0s0 or /drv/rdsk/c0t0d0s0

Please help me. I new to UNIX and SOLARIS.Thanks!
VCYou are probably using the INSTALL CD that comes with Solaris x86.
Don't use it but use the Software CD 1/1 to boot and install the system instead. The INSTALL CD is supposed to be used on a completely blank system (no other OS's) although even there I think Software CD 1/1 does the job.
Also, if you are new to Solaris I advice you to get the FAQ (you can find it on e.g. http://www.science.uva.nl/pub/solaris/solaris2- it should be really helpfull during the first few weeks/months on Solaris -

Is Perl part of default/standard Solaris Installation ?
How safe is it to assume existence of Perl on client-side Solaris System?
Thanks & Regards,
SatishPerl has been in Solaris in /usr/bin since Solaris 8. I am not completely certain, but I believe it is included in all metaclusters including the minimal Core cluster.

Which Name Service for Solaris installation behind router?
I want to install Solaris on my computer in a small home LAN behind a router.
The Solaris computer is not part of a zone, a domain and there is no own DNS server in LAN.
I want Solaris to get the DNS from router which in turn gets the DNS server assignments from network provider.
This is similar to a Windows installation which gets the current DNS servers defintion from network provider at connection startup.
Now what do I have to select during Solaris installation? See attached snapshot
I guess LDAP, NIS and NIS+ are not suitable.
Do I have to select "None"?
Does DNS mean "own DNS server in LAN" or "DNS from router" (as intended)?
Thank you
PeterHello
I don't know you home setup but in general you will have to use DCHP so solaris will get all info from the route the ip and dns etc..
If you want to use a static ip you will have to config the DNS by hand.

Minimum Solaris installation for Directory Server
Hello,
i want to set up a new Solaris installation for Sun ONE directory server.
But i don't want to install always the "entire distribution" and then turn off all services. I want to keep the solaris os installation as small as possible. Has anybody tried this before and can report some experiences? Is the "reduced network" cluster the right way to go or better the "core" cluster? Does anybody have a list of the packages which must be installed after a minimal solaris installation for the ds to work?
Thanks a lot,
af_inetSince you original question is "minimum requirement
at the SERVER", I would say that X is not really
needed at the server end if you use installer text
mode CLI (command is "./installer -nodisplay")
instead of installer graphical mode (GUI). However,
to fix uninstall/reinstall issue, X is needed as the
"prodreg" which is used to uninstall packages is a X
program, without text mode option. This is correct.
It is not a must to run ./startconsole (X program)
LOCALLY so as to perform DS admin functions as you
could always run SUN ONE Console REMOTELY from any
remote host (Windows or UNIX/Linux) with just the
console binaries installed. (for large data centre
env. the LDAP server is usually locked in server room
away from your desk and you tend to use remote admin
console). This is correct too. I think it's a matter of taste if i want to install console on the DS itself or on a separate host. As long as i have only one DS i will leave it on the machine itself. But you are right, this is not a must. So i should have asked my question more precicely :-)
Thank you very much,

Step by Step RAC 11GR2 with Grid Infrastructure on Solaris installation
Y'ello All,
Please I need documentation for RAC 11GR2 with Grid Infrastructure on Solaris installation urgently.
Thany you very much for your support
BR,What type of shared storage will you be using?
Properly configure DNS
Properly configure /etc/hosts files
Properly configure SCAN
Properly configure SHARED storage (Preferably ASM - "raw" devices) - make sure you partition the disk devices to "skip" the first 1MB of the device)
BEFORE installation, confirm grid-owner and oracle-rdbms-owner can read AND write to these shared devices from ALL nodes. Permissions must be set to <grid-owner:<grid+oracle shared group> (grid:oinstall where oracle is also in the oinstall group)
Properly configure ssh password-less connections for both GRID-owner AND oracle-rdbms-owner.
IP addresses required
3 SCAN addresses that point to myhost-scan.mydomain.tld in a round-robin fashion
PER NODE:
1 public IP address
1 virtual IP address
1 interconnect IP address should be iin /etc/hosts ONLY - Non-routable and not reachable via the public interface. DO NOT use CROSSOVER cable.
Interconnect should be on a DEDICATED INTERCONNECT switch.
As for the SHARED storage, the LUNS/Devices can be "carved" out on your SAN by your SAN admin. MAKE SURE that ALL devices in a given diskgroup are EQUAL size. (ie - DATA000=250GB/each, DATA001 500GB/each etc)
The installation guide gives a lot of directions on PRE-REQUISITES. Follow them. And remember, since you are new to this, you may install this several times before you get it the way you need it to be. Even installing MANY RAC clusters on multiple platforms, I still install it 2-3 times. Generally because the SA has forgotten some pre-req step.
