Solaris kernel patch levels

I have engineers asking for a particular kernel patch level to be installed on machines.
Is there anywhere that lists the kernel patch level on releases and hardware updates for Solaris 8-10?
Thanks,
Duane

can this is affect on request transporting DEV to QAS and PRD or any issues plz. guide me
    thanks

    Hi,
No problems for tranports but you're not qualifying what will be running on production....
The whole point of a quality system is to use exactly the same release, kernel patch levels and SP levels as the prodcution system.

  • How do I see the Kernel patch level in Java ONLY instance?

Could someone please tell me How do I see the Kernel patch level in a Java ONLY instance?
    In Abap, it is simple!
In Java I see in the System Info: Kernel Version:  7.00 PatchLevel 108458.44
BUT that doesn't correspond to the real patch level which I can see when I do disp+work which gave me 111

    Hello Yechezkel,
I am not sure whether the patch number you are looking for is available.
Typically you can use "-v" to display the patch level of SAP kernel programs. When I run "jcontrol -v" or "jlaunch -v", the patch number is blank (at least on the 6.40 release I checked)
The SP level should be able to tell how current the Java instance is updated, especially for NetWeaver 7 systems always patched with JSPM stack.
    Best regards,
    Victor

  • Kernel patch level upgrade

our kernel patch level is 221
now i want upgrade patch latest non unicode 64bit kernel for DB2 database
    E:\usr\sap\QAS\SYS\exe\nuc\NTAMD64
    E:\usr\sap\QAS\DVEBMGS00\exe
    which one correct directory..

    Dear Subhash.Chandra.
You writed the patch files have to be copied both directories.
I'm finding the official document or manual of it.
I updated igs patch on one server(ecc 6.0 ides).
I copied the file to one directory(/sapmnt/SID/exe). and I found igs patch was OK(transaction : sisg).
And the the other directory(/usr/sap/SID/DV~~/exe) has same file automatically without copy.
    Second Case,
I updated igs patch on our ecc dev server.
I can't update igs version with copy to only one directory.
So I copied remained directory. Then I found igs patch updated successfully.
    Thank you.

  • Incorrect kernel patch level

    Dear Experts,
I just upgraded kernel patch level to the latest one, i.e. 254, however the EWA report still read the old patch level (Your SAP kernel release (release 700, patch level 254) is not up-to-date).
Do we have to upgrade the ST_PI and/or PI_BASIS, the status is as follow:
    SOLMAN:
    PI_BASIS    2006_1_700   0008   SAPKIPYM08
    ST-PI           2008_1_700  0000
    Satellite:
    PI_BASIS    2005_1_700  0010   SAPKIPYJ7A
    ST-PI           2008_1_700  0000
    Please advise.
    Thank and Regards,
    Rudi

    Hi,
This "outdated check" is based on the compiling date of the
'disp+work package' of the kernel. The rules for how many days mean
outdated depend on the kernel release and the ST-SER Release and SP
    running on the Solution Manager.
Please find below some corrections that extent the rules for beeing
    up-to-date:
1076235 - RED Rating in Software Configuration, Kernel 700 old
    1301137 - ST-SER 2008_2 SP02: Further Corrections
1304151 - Service Assistent: Adjustments for Kernel Check
You may want to have the latest ST-SER version in order
to ensure that the latest corrections are implemented in your system.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers

  • Static library not accessed properly after Solaris Kernel patch update !

    Hi,
We are facing a sever issue in our application after our customer updated the Solaris 10 kernel patch u9 to u10.
We have two static libraries libdlib.a and libDLIB.a, with exactly same code base, but these two libraries are scattered across the code base and linked by many shared objects in our application.
However, one of the shared objects that links to "libdlib.a" library tries to access a function from "libDLIB.a". This behavior is causing a crash at a later point, since that shared object is supposed to access the function from "libdlib.a". Moreover, we found this is happening through the use of dbx.
I'm unable to understand why this problem surfaced after kernel patch update, though still the shared object works fine on Solaris 10 u9 patch.
Flow is something like this :
    1. syslogrecorder.so gets loaded by one of the processes.
    2. syslogrecorder.so is linked to "libdlib.a" at compile time, so it uses "libdlib.a" function DLIB_LoadLibrary and gets a handle to all the function pointers of the loaded library ( The purpose of DLIB_LoadLibrary is to load a shared library dynamically using dlopen )
    3. syslogrecorder.so tries to do a "dlsym" and to do that it needs access to the library handle which we got in previous call DLIB_LoadLibrary. So syslogrecorder.so calls another function from DLIB_ProcAddress, which actually gives back the access to the loaded shared library.
Here is a catch in step 3, it is supposed to call DLIB_ProcAddress from the libdlib.a but as we observed from dbx output it does so by calling DLIB_ProcAddress from libDLIB.a and hence fails to give back the access to loaded shared library, causing crash at a later point in code.
Can someone put some light here that why this could happen ??
    Thanks
    Kuldeep

To clarify: You did not modify or rebuild any of your binaries, but after installing a kernel patch, the application stopped working. Most likely, something about your application depended on a accidental behavior of the runtime loader. That accidental behavior changed due to the patch, and your application failed.
For example, if there is a circular dependency among shared libraries, the loader will break the cycle at an arbitrary point to establish an initialization order. By accident, that order might work, in the sense of not causing a problem. A change to the loader could cause the cycle to be broken at a different point, and the resulting initialization order could cause a now-uninitialized object to be accessed. I'm not saying this is what is wrong, but this is an example of a dependency on accidental loader behavior.
Finding your actual problem will require tracing the sequence of operations leading up to the failure. You are more likely to find help in a Solaris linker forum. AFAIK, there are currently no Oracle forums for Solaris, and the old OpenSolaris forums have been converted to mailing lists. You can try the "tools-linking" list found on this page:
    http://mail.opensolaris.org/mailman/listinfo
I also suggest you review the paper on best practices for using shared libraries written by Darryl Gove and myself:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/articles/servers-storage-admin/linkinglibraries-396782.html
If you have a service contract with Oracle, you can use your support channel to get more help.

  • Can you run different kernel patch levels?

We have a PA-RISC central instance, and an Itaniuim dialog instance.  They are have different versions of the 640 kernel.
Can we connect the dialog instance to the central instance?
    Thanks,
    D.

    Hi D.,
I've got a different patch level with a HP-UX CI + Windows DI with 46D kernel and it worked fine, but now those Win DI are over...
Sorry, I haven't see this note, but as I said before you must maintain a similar patch level.
Now, reading this note, I can't suggest you to do it.

    JC Llanes.

  • Kernel Patch level in JAVA Engin

    Hello All,
I have planned to upgrade the kernel for JAVA engine (Version 640) and checked for the patch level. It appears as release 640 and i am not able to find the patch of the kernel(tried in system info page and jalunch -v option). Later I came through a thread in this forum which stated there is no patch level for Java Kernel. Is this right? If this is right then how do we upgrade the kernel for Java engine
    Kindly clarify
    Regards,
    Anand

    Hi,
In Java, kernel are identified in SPS not in terms of patch level like in ABAP systems. so whatever will your SP stack level of your portal, the same will be the kernel level of your portal.
So if you want to upgrade your portal kernel alone, you cant. You have to upgrade your whole Portal SPS to take your portal on new kernel and SP stack level. Latest SPS Available in the market place is 24 as of today.
    With Regards,
    Saurabh

  • Solaris 10 patch level

Is a Server installed with Solaris 10 Sparc edition release 11/06, with latest Recommended Patch bundle, equivalent to a server installed with Solaris 05/08 plus the same latest Recommended Patch bundle?
    Thanks in advance
    Enrico

No .... the differences relate to hardware that the different releases recognize / can use ..i.e you need certain release versions of Solaris to run on certain hardware - like the T2000 needs a minimum release to be used, can also relate to HBA's as well.
On an existing system running Solaris 10 you would not notice any difference however.

  • Kernel Patch Update

    Hi
I have a question about updating the kernel patch to the latest version Can a kernel patch be directly updated from any lower version to the latest version by applying the latest patch even if the kernel patch number itself has changed like the below scenarios
    1. Can I directly update the kernel pacth 122300-51 to 122300-57
2.Can I directly update the kernel patch 142909-17 to 144488-17
    Thanks in advance

Basically, yes, but you need to take care of the patch dependencies. Usually a kernel patch with a new patch ID will require the last revision of each former kernel patch to be installed first.
Either you use patchadd on the most recent kernel patch you want to apply and then work yourself back through the patch dependencies, or you use PCA (http://www.par.univie.ac.at/solaris/pca/) which will do this job for you. Use e.g. "pca -l 144488" to get a list of all the patches which have to be installed first to get the system up to the wanted kernel patch level.

  • How to determine 640/J2EE Startup Framework Binary Patch Level?

    Hi All,
We are running BI ABAP with Java Add-in on WAS 640/SUSE/Oracle.
In the ABAP world, there are many options for determining the current kernel patch level.  Disp+work -v, SYSTEM->STATUS, etc..
How do I determine the patch level of the J2EE startup framework (ie: jlaunch, jcontrol, etc..)?  If I run these commands with '-version', I get a patch level of 0. From System Information, the Cluster Kernel Version is 6.40 PatchLevel 105424.313.
What I am trying to determine is if I have the binaries that map to the latest applied SP (18).  Do I need to download J2EERTOS18.SAR and apply the bits or has that already been done?  Or is the current patch level for the bits fro the J2EERTOS14.SAR file?  Etc...
    Any tips/suggestions?
    Thanks much,
    Greg

    Hi
    You can check the patch number like this;
    D:\usr\sap\FT0\SYS\exe\uc\NTI386>jlaunch -version
Failed to reserve 1610612736 (0x60000000) bytes before loading DLLs (error 8).

    kernel release                700
    kernel make variant           700_REL
    compiled on                   NT 5.0 2195 Service Pack 4 x86 MS VC++ 13.10
    compilation mode              UNICODE
    compile time                  Jan 23 2008 20:42:28
    update level                  0
patch number                  128                         <<< Here is the patch number>>
    source id                     0.144
While regarding which file(s) to apply, please notice that the files you are not talking like
J2EERTOS16_1, is part of the J2EE support package stack, which can be applied with JSPM.
Regarding the kernel, you can alway refer to note 19466, and downlaod the lastest kernel from:
