We have just purchased new HW from Sun (Netra 440) and with it we received a box with CD-s containing various Solaris Software. (Solaris 10 version). Among them Solaris Management Center. So I have a question: is SMC free to use with all its features coming on the CD or it is just a trial and after some time some features will be switched off?

My main goal is to use this SW for system monitoring - alerting me if some HW / SW error occurs and alarming me via sending SNMP trap to other SNMP receiver sw running on other machine.Can it do this?

Solaris Management Center 4.0 install?

Hi,
I've recently been testing a T5140 and have installed management center 4.0 with the solaris container manager add-on. The install whet fine, however when I go to the web console all I see is the sun management center and when I click on it nothing happens. As well as the solaris container manager does not show up even though it's installed and configured. Any ideas, on how to get the solaris container manager in the webconsole?

The HWDS suite was an embedded application that Sun's SunVTS application team wrote and shipped in SunMC. In the past SunVTS was a per system test suite and SunMC allowed it to have an enterprise view. A few weeks ago SunVTS 7.0 was released that now has an enterprise view. Thus they have removed the feature from SunMC.

How to integrate a Solaris x86 server on Sun Management Center ?

Hello people,
I want to integrate a Solaris x86 server on Sun Management Center platform.
If I'm not wrong, SunMC doesn't run for Solaris x86, server and client only as console with Java.
In speat of it, I try to install Sun Management Center 3.0 Agent for Solaris x86.
It seems to be ok, install packages, but when execute es-setup script, intents to create the following directory:
/opt/SUNWsymon/base/bin/sparc-sun-solaris2.8
I supose that in this directory, SunMC will install sparc binary files
At this point, I can't follow the installation and abort it.
Can anybody give me ideas to install and integrate my solaris x86 server on SunMC ?

Hi
From the Unix prompt enter oemapp console(for v9.x). If you are using earlier versions it is oemapp console (for starting the console) and oemapp dbastudio(for starting dba studio)
For starting OMS enter: oemctrl start oms.

Is it possible to run smc in whole root zone? Is there a howto for this?
I have created a whole root zone in my x86 and sparc systems but I can't seem to manage the zones through smc (Adding users, share disks and etc).
I was able to manage my sparse zones with smc but for some reason smc won't even start in whole root zone. The whole root zone does not seem to have smcserver and bunch of other directories relating to smc.

No Solaris Management Console was available on the specific server

Hi all,
We had just finish setting up a new Solaris 10 environment. When i launch smc on the server, on selecting toolbox there's an error message:
No Solaris Management Console server was available on the specified server. Please ensure there is a Solaris Management Console server available on the specified host and that it is running.
However, upon verifying whether smc is running:
./init.wbem status
Solaris Management Console server version 2.1.0 running on port 898.
Not sure why this error message appeared, thanks.

Regarding SMC (not SunMC)..
Note: SMC = Solaris Management Console
SunMC = Sun Management Center (topic of this forum)
Patch 121308-16+ makes WBEM "secure by default."
Customers running Solaris 10 6/06 or prior must modify the client's WBEM
configuration file to allow remote connections after installing patch 121308.
1. Modify the following line in /usr/sadm/lib/smc/policy/smcserver.config:
FROM:
remote.connections=false
TO:
remote.connections=true
2. Stop and restart wbem.
# /etc/init.d/init.wbem stop
# /etc/init.d/init.wbem start
3. Verify that WBEM is now listening for connections to port 898
on all interfaces:
# netstat -an |grep 898
*.898 *.* 0 0 49152 0 LISTEN
In Solaris [TM]10 update 3 (11/06), the startup mechanism for WBEM was changed
from the legacy (rc script) method to the new Service Management Facility (SMF).
To allow remote WBEM connections on Solaris 10 update 3 or later:
# svcadm disable wbem
# svccfg -s wbem setprop options/tcp_listen=true
# svcadm enable wbem

I just installed solaris 8/07 fully patched the OS using smpatch went to use smc and get No Solaris Management Console server was available error.

Whole root zone doesn't run Solaris Management Console

All
I created a couple of Whole Root zone's, but the SMC is not working. It can't even be found. (However, on the "sparse" zones, it works fine.)
I ran:
pkginfo SUNWsmcmd
and got:
system SUNWsmcmd System Management Agent applications and utilities
So, it seems like it's installed, but it ain't working on any of the whole-root zones.
Anyone have any ideas on this one?

I think I have the same problem -
One global zone and one whole-root zone installed.
I access the server withhttps://servername:6789/containersthen I can see Solaris Container Manager 3.6.1but when I select it, I get
There was an error while connecting to the Solaris Container Manager service. Restart the services and login again.
Restart Sun Management Center services and log in again.I restarted meanwhile every service, but I did not a server reboot.

Management Center install error "Unsupported OS version: 5.10

I couldn't find anything on sunsolve that talks about a work around. Has anyone else had this problem and how did you resolve it?

You'll need at least Sun Management Center 3.5 Update 1a, which is available in the nearest Solaris 10 media kit, or at:
http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/sunmanagementcenter/get.xml
Now that 3.5.1b is available maybe you should get that one.

Toolbox in Solaris management console

I installed Solaris management console 2.0 and when I try to open it, it asks me for a toolbox. What kind of file is a toolbox? Could anybody tell me how can i install a toolbox?

For some reason it was able to run once by running the command
# /etc/init.d/init.wbem start
But no matter what I do, I can't get it to work one lick with
# svcadm enable wbem
Any ideas guys?

Cannot start Solaris Management Console in Solaris 9

I cannot start the Solaris Management Console in Solaris 9. The splash screen appears for a few seconds, then nothing else.
There is a error: "Assertion Fail: Offset < fFileSize ..." something like that.

I have Sun Fire 480 with solaris 5.9 installed on it. I use XManager 1.3.9 on windows 2000 workstation to connect to it and launch Solaris Management Console (smc). Try search the WEB for your display adapter drivers. However, most of new especially intergated graphics are still not supported.
You may try to get it working with xsun, run kdmconfig and specify as display adapter VGA or Super VGA. I know that in some cases it helps.
As well do the same with Xorg and run /usr/X11/bin/xorgcfg, try to find somekind of generic VGA in drivers that are listed there.
As I know, smc runs only in graphical mode.
I saved the settings and pressed F2 for testing. I could see the displayDid you see buttons on that display (something like "yes", "no")?
xsun is very hard to set with most of display adapters and monitors, sometimes it shows only part of the screen, so you might not to see these buttons. However if you see them, press "yes" (or something like that, I dont exactly remember). Then reboot and your computer should start the GUI.

Solaris 9, Solaris Management Console ISSUE

I have Solaris 9 installed and I am unable to use the Solaris Management console.
I have managed to start it:
/etc/init.d/init.wbem start
/etc/init.d/init.wbem status -> shows it's running
But if I try browser with the link http:// host:898, I have got the following error:
"A web version of the Solaris Management Console is not available at this time."
any Idea why?

Are you running Trusted Extensions? What patch cluster are you on? What toolbox are you opening?
