Solaris Mgmt Console Can't See Disks

Hi,
I recently installed Sparc Solaris 10 6/06 on a Sun Fire v440. I configured a hardware raid mirror on the built in controller card using raidctl. The two root disks are correctly mirrored and report "OK" when raidctl is issued for a status.
I have two additional disks that I wanted to mirror using SVM.
When I start the Solaris Management Console, I initially get no errors. When I navigate to the Disks section, I get a pop up error window stating:
"Attempt to get a list of all Disks failed with unexpected error: null"
If I click on the OK button on the error dialog, the management console is available but no disks are shown in the usual window.
I googled here and there for an explanation but found nothing.
Does anyone have an idea?
Thanks,
Phil

  • Solaris volume manager can't see san disk

    Folks,
I have two san connected to a v20z with a qlogic hba running 10. Svm can see one of sans, but not the other. I can format/newfs/mount slices on both sans, but smc/metadb can't see the new san.

I can't see either san with cfgadm but we are using qlogic drivers.
The real problem is that metadb -a -f says that a slice on the new san is invalid argument.
We changed the luns to < 1tb and now svm can see the luns, but still can't create my state database.

  • Can't see disk content with accounts set-up in Airport Extreme.

    Hello, all.
I can't see the contents of a hard disk I have connected to my Airport Extreme and shared using accounts. Accounts have been set-up as Read & Write, and Read only, but finder window is empty. Disk mounts on the desktop but doesn't display its contents.
What am I doing wrong ?
    Thank you in advance.

Canle modem off, Airport Extreme off. Connect the modem and the extreme with ethernet cable. Power the modem. Wait about a minute, power the extreme. Use Airport Utility (in your Utilities folder) to set up the extreme. Review directions for the extreme as that will help.

  • Updated Java "broke" SMC (Solaris Mgmt Console)

    Hello,
    I have a SunFire 280R running Solaris 8.
The application running on the system will be upgraded soon, and required that I update Java.
I believe I've missed some steps, as the SMC (Solaris Management Console) will not run now.
I've read the SMC FAQ, but may have missed something. Any help would be appreciated.
    Before doing anything:
    # java -version
    java version "1.4.1_03"
    # cd /usr
    # ls -la java
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root other 6 Mar 14 2003 java -> ./j2se
I installed a recent version of Sun Java from a CD-R which I had burned:
    # cd /usr
    # /cdrom/java_1_5_0_04/jre_1_5_.sh
    agree?
    Unpacking...
    Checksumming...
    extracting...
    inflating...
    Creating
    Done.
    # /cdrom/java_1_5_0_04/jre_1_52.sh
    agree?
    Unpacking...
    Checksumming...
    Done.
After the installation was complete, I replaced the link:
    # cd /usr
    # rm java
    # ln -s /usr/jre1.5.0_04 java
    # ls -la java
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root other 16 Oct 11 09:11 java -> /usr/jre1.5.0_04
    # java -version
    java version "1.5.0_04"
When I attempt to launch SMC from the CDE menu bar, it tries, then fails, without a message.
When I open a terminal and type "smc", it tries, and then I get a message that there is no valid version of Java in the places that it expects it, just as the FAQ mentions, and to either fix and try again, it set $JAVA_HOME.
This is right about where my knowledge of Solaris 8 abruptly ends. If I can type "java -version" in a terminal window and get the reply "java version "1.5.0_04"" then why can't SMC find it?
I am stumped. Someone tried to help by telling me to edit the .bashrc file, and add $JAVA_HOME, but I can't find that file on this system anywhere.
I was able to get the SMC to launch once, after trying to set $JAVA_HOME, but it apparently only worked for that terminal window. After the SMC was closed, and the terminal window closed, and someone tried to launch it from a new terminal window, it didn't work again.
I'm stumped. How can I get SMC to play nice with the newer Java? I know enough to know that this is probably very basic, and I am just forgetting something obvious.
thanks very much for your help!

I was able to correct this problem on my server
The .server file is the smc java keystore that contains
the private/public key pair for SSL
You can create this file by executing
    cd /usr/sadm/lib/smc/bin
    certtool -genkey
Once the keys are generated execute
    /etc/init.d/init.wbem stop
    /etc/init.d/init.wbem start
if your smpatch no longer works

  • UCS C200 M2 LFF can't see disk

    DETAILS
    Disk - SAS 7.2k 1TB
    VMware ESXi v5
I was following the configuration guide http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/unified_computing/ucs/c/sw/os/vmware/install/VMWARE-esxi-install.html to install VMware ESXi v.5 on a Cisco UCS M2 LFF which has a disk - SAS 7.2k 1 TB.  I did the steps from 1 to 9 correctly.  However, when I got the number step No. 10, I checked the Boot Options on the BIOS and I didn't find the Hard Disk Order.  I'm attaching the screenshot of BIOS - Boot Options that I see:
I checked the UCS option Inventory - Options cards on the Cisco Integrated Management Controller and I didn't find the hard drive, this is the image I see:
Finally, I decided to move the hard drive to another bay (No. 2).  However, the result was the same, the BIOS can't recognise the hard drive.
Even though, I tried to install VMware and it can't find the disk.
Any ideas why UCS can recognised the disk?
I really appreciate your help with any information or idea because I'm in a hurry to finish my installation.
    Thanks,

    hi padramas,
i'm experiencing identical situation from this thread.
This server was purchased on ebay where the tech removed the HHD and a raid controller.
i've set the bios to the above same setting.
    Recently I purchased new:
Cisco LSI 1064E Mezzanine Card SAS HBA
    1 SAS
    R200-SASCBL
    2 Cisco R200-D300GB 300 GB Internal Hard Drive - Hot-Swap - 15000 RPM - Serial.
the  sled are green are lit when the HHD are in place ( these are new HHD)
Used the url below to troubleshoot.
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/servers-unified-computing/ucs-c-series-rack-servers/115025-ucs-cseries-cli-00.html#concept2
Followed the the steps and see the HHD and the show pcie-adapter
    HDD_01_STATUS present
    HDD_02_STATUS present
    HDD_03_STATUS absent
    HDD_04_STATUS absent
    I receive the following
chassis # scope storageadapter SLOT-5 or any SLOT or SAS for that matter
Error: Managed object does not exist, show the show command to list vaild targets.
i've gone so far as to put a stethoscope while the HHD are in the server and can't hear them spinning.
Could it be a jumper setting or a cable that was removed before this server was shipped to me.
this is a lab server so i don't have a smartnet accout to open a TAC case.
    thank you advance

  • Can't See Disk with Firewire

Really not sure how to label this question...
I'm trying to transfer files via firewire to my new MacBook Pro from my G4 Quicksilver. The G4 has two internal drives, the original and one I added. The added one is the main (startup disk) that I use. It's this drive where most my stuff resides and that's what I want to transfer.
But, when I hookup firewire I only see the original drive. I double checked the "Startup Disk" and it's set correctly. I even clicked it and chose Target Disk Mode or whatever it is for the firewire option. Still no luck.
How can I see this drive? Or, is it possible to see both drives? That would be ideal.
Any thoughts would be highly appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    Dean

Target Disk Mode only sees the hard drive set as Master, the original drive. Your added drive has been set as Slave & is not seen in TDM.
The solution - Remove both drives. Relocate the jumpers (diagram on drive) to make original drive as Slave & new drive as Master. Reinstall drives. Now TDM will see the new drive.

  • CAn't see disks

    Hi,
I tried to install solaris 10 on E4000. There are 2 disks on disk board but these are not visible by system. Even probe-scsi-all only shows the dvd rom. Please help.
    Thanks.

I do not happen to know your experience level, but many people
have presumed that just because such disk drives are on a disk board,
    that they are internal drives.
That is incorrect -- no disk drives are ever 'internal' to an Enterprise computer; all are external devices.
(... only the CDROM and any internal tape are internal SCSI devices, for those computers)
A disk board simply gets power and device target numbering when they're on a disk board.
The SCSI pathing is still external.
There must be a cable, out from an I/O board and into the HD68 connector on the face of the disk board.
Those drives are no different that if they were in a multipak.
No SCSI cable ? Then no functional drives.
Bring the system down to OBP (properly) and run probe-scsi-all.
The drives must be recognized at that hardware level before
you can have any hope of an OS manipulating them.
Search Docs.Sun.Com for the board, whose part number is 501-3113.
That will point you toward the Systems Manual for that line of computer systems. It's a 4mb PDF file.
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/802-3845-11
Alternatively, you can use the SSH to find your E4000, then select its documentation link:

  • Can't see disk files

Have a 1st gen ipod that is still going strong. I take it back and forth from home (mac powerbook g4) to office (mac g5) usually with no problem. I update my music only on home computer. Use the ipod as a removeable HD to transfer work files over firewire. Suddenly after upgrading to latest iTunes my files are no longer visible on my work computer. Volume mounts and I can see my contacts and calendar files, but not the HD storage. It will still succesfully charge also. Sounds like a security or privileges issue?

The disk sharing utility creates separate folders which are not visible when connected to the AEBS, but are when directly connected via USB to your computer:
"Shared" > for all mainly shared files and folders
"[Username]" > for all user related files and folders when you use account to access your disks through the AEBS via Airport.
So if you first connect your disk directly to your PC, make sure you copy your files to the "Shared" directory (and not directly in the root), and if you did not connect the disk to the AEBS before, or the "Shared" directory does not exist, make this folder yourself.
    Goodluck!

  • Where can i see disk I just loaded

I inherited a macbook pro when I started my position at work. THe person who used it before me made many peprsonalisations to the way the computer works, which is great. However, for the life of me, i cannot fidn where at disk is located to open it. I am used to it starting and "popping up" right away...
Trick is, i can't check spotlight for a file name, because the disk is photos taken at a job site, and likely all named random numbers...
I'm sure this is an easy fix, but i am too frustrated to think clearly and work it out; help?

  • Migration Assistant from Tiger Mac to new Leopard MBP can't see disk

    Hi,
I just bought a new MacBook Pro and am trying to migrate from my Tiger-based (10.4.10) dual 1 GHz Mac (mirrored-drive door) desktop machine. The boot drive on the Tiger machine is actually partitioned into an emergency boot drive of a few GB and my main working drive ("Macintosh HD"). When I run Migration Assistant (MA) on my MBP (after connecting the 6-pin Firewire cable and restarting the Tiger Mac in target disk mode), the MBP sees only the emergency boot-up partition and not the main working partition from which I want to migrate.
I tried MA on my MBP connected to a different Mac with no HD partitions, and it sees "Macintosh HD" just fine, so I think all the new hardware is okay as well as the Firewire cable.
    Any ideas?
    -Eric

Thanks for the info. I do know something about this (being a HW engineer), but I would have thought that the IDE master/slave jumpers would affect all the partitions on the disk. Since my emergency-boot partition is visible, I take that to mean that the IDE master/slave jumper issue is a non-issue for me.
I don't know if this helps, but here's what Disk Utility reports about the disk (not the volumes residing on it):

I don't know how to determine from the above what the "first" partition would be. I don't know how to post an attachment here otherwise I'd show a screen shot, but when I got into Disk Utility's partition tab, the emergency-boot partition (called Clean Boot) shows up at the bottom of the space indicating all of the HD's space, and Macintosh HD shows above Clean Boot.
So what are my options? Can I repartition w/o loosing Macintosh HD (I'm willing to loose the other partition Clean Boot)? Any way to change the partition numbers?
I was thinking of cloning Macintosh HD to another HD and then migrating from that. Any experience with that?
    Thanks, Eric

  • Time Capsule - Windows 7 can't see disks

Just purchased a Time Capsule 1 TB and installed it. I have 2 PC's connecting to it. One is a Windows Desktop running Windows 7 RC (final). It sees the Time Capsule, printer, and disks. That's cool.
However, I have an HP laptop that is connecting to the Time Capsule. It sees the printer just fine, but when I try to access the disk it gives me the error message:
"Unknown user, inncorrect password, or login is disabled. Please retype the login information or contact..."
I have tried virtually every option (wired or wireless access, etc.). Currently disk access is setup to use Accounts, with passwords. But I've tried it the other ways. It's making me crazy!
    Anybody got any ideas?

    Tesserax,
Thanks for the quick response, but no luck. I followed your steps. There were a couple of differences for me:
    1. I have two "Network security: minimum session..." sections. Presumably because I have a Wireless and a wired connection or have at one time.
    2. I wanted to make sure the 7th step was in the same area "User Rights Assignment" and not some other "policy" area that I missed.
o From the Win7 desktop, click Start
    o Search for: security
    o Click 'Local Security Policy'
o Goto Local Policies > Security Options
o Under Policy, double-click 'Network security: LAN Manager authentication level'
o Change level to: Send LM & NTLM responses
o Under Policy, double-click 'Network security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP based (including RPC) clients'
    o De-select 'Require 128-bit encryption'
    o Click OK

  • Solaris Management Console reports disk errors

    Hello,
Solaris Management Console is reporting my disk as having a non-Solaris partition, negative space remaining, and overlapping partitions.
All this after a trouble free install of Solaris 10 on a checked IBM and a Fujitsu hdd. (AMD +2600 chip, ASUS A7V8X mb)
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank You,
    RT

As a followup - right after posting this message, I opened a support case for this, and the solution is that you need to go into /etc/security/policy.conf and backup JASS's change to the default encryption model.
    Change CRYPT_DEFAULT=1 back to CRYPT_DEFAULT=__unix__
Then, you have to clear the password using "passwd -d", and then reset it again to what you want. Then, the management console will work.
I guess the management console is set to always use the __unix__ method, and not look at the policy.conf's setting. So when JASS wanders from the default, it breaks SMC.

  • Solaris Management Console and X86 Disk

    Greetings,
I am trying to use the Solaris Management Console to manage the 2 disks I have in my Intel PC. Both disk are allocated 100% to Solaris 10 and were formatted and partitioned by the installation program.
Why is it that when I use the Management Console it tells me that there is no Solaris FDISK partition and that I cannot manage the disk until I put a Solaris FDISK partition on them? It doesn't seem like the tool is all that useful if it cannot use the default format put on the disk by the install program.
On related note, why is it that auto layout during install creates partitions that are barely large enough to hold the OS? From what I can see it puts the bulk of the disk space into home for user home directories but this creates a problem when trying to install additional SW such as StarOffice.
    Cheers
    TC

Thanks for your help. I updated my root password from 4 charcters to 4charcters + 4 numerals , still SMC will not let me in. I updated 2 machines and both allow me to login as root (GUI) but SMC wants to confirm the password and will not let me in.
I have reinstalled (initialized rather than upgrade) Solaris 10 on one machine (Ultra60) , that machine now works fine. It allows me to login as root(GUI) ans the SMC accepts my root password
The machines are an Ultra10 and an Ultra60.
I choose to upgrade rather than a new install because of to much info to rebuild.

  • [Solved] [Xorg+KMS+Intel] Can't see login console / boot messages!

    Hi,
My problem is that using an Intel video card (with KMS) after latest Xorg 1.8 update, I can't see boot messagges and the login console anymore.
I've just noticed that after last Xorg update I can't access anymore to runlevel 3 on boot.
I've got an Intel video card so KMS is enabled by default (and mandatory).
I always used SLiM as a display manager, configured through /etc/inittab to go to runlevel 5 on boot:
    # /etc/inittab
    # Runlevels:
    # 0 Halt
    # 1(S) Single-user
    # 2 Not used
    # 3 Multi-user

To enable runlevel 3 at boot,  I commented the id:5:initdefault: and the x:5:respawn:/usr/bin/slim >& /dev/null lines and uncommented id:3:initdefault:.
Now, during boot, the last thing I see is Loading UDev modules..., then the screen becomes dark gray and I can't see any other boot messages (actually this appened also before, after xorg update).
The problem is that before slim started but now I can't see any login console.
I also figured out that typing my username, password and then startx, starts X normally, so the problem is just that I can't see the tty console anymore.
Once I am in X I can switch to ttys normally.
    What can I do?
I just wanted to get rid of slim and start X automatically after console login but I can't see the console login!
I hope to have been clear enough, thanks for your help!
